I was sleeved just about five weeks ago and thought I was rocking the Protein requirement of 75g/d... Until I really started tracking it. I think I've only been getting between 50-60 per day at the most. What implications does this have? Have I caused irreversible damage? What, aside from getting more protein, can I do to prevent combined issues? Basically, have I completely screwed myself up? I'm feeling pretty disappointed in myself right now. Thanks for replies and info. (PS: I'm waiting to hear back from my nut...thought I'd reach out to you all in the meantime.) Sent from my iPhone using VST

I have simple demands out of a Protein bar: 1. It be high protein 2. It be low sugar (and low net carb) 3. It taste good 4. It have calories between 180 and 220. Lower is better of course, but most are around 180 With that said, here is my list: 1. Quest bars (170 calories, 20g protein, 5 g sugar, awesome taste). Too addicting so only eat rarely. 2. Pure protein revolution (180 calories, 20 G protein, 1 g sugar, great taste) 3. Pure protein (180 calories, 180 calories, 20 G protein, 1 g sugar, good taste) 4. Nu go slim (180 calories, 17 G protein 2 g sugar, great taste) 5. Think thin (270 calories, 17 G protein, no sugar, ok taste). Too many calories for me,…

I am starting my 10 day pre-op diet today and was wondering if I can use low fat cheese as a protein at one of my meals? I can have 2-3 oz of protein and 1/2 cup of veggies or 1 cup salad for lunch/dinner. I'm wondering if I can use cheese as my protein at lunch with fruit or salad?

  9. I found some Safeway brand coconut Water that had 350 mg potassium and 5 calories per serving. It was sugar free and is a Water Enhancer for about 20 oz. I added it, drank about 12 oz and suddenly had dizziness, nauseousness and stomach ache. Felt overall terrible and definitely felt like i was going to toss the Cookies right there. It was definitely a WTH moment. So I asked my wife to look at the ingredients and there was aspartame and a lot of other chemicals. I was like, gee Safeway, get with the times. We already know Aspartame is seriously bad for you. Why not Splenda or Stevia? Dunno. Probably aspartame is a much cheaper ingredient to use. Too bad I need to to…

Dang these look good, and VSG-friendly portions! Cut down on the croutons, throw in some chicken, and in my opinion skewer the parmesan instead of sprinkling, in order to cut down on losing the parm on the skewer's way to the mouth Other than that - yum yum YUM! http://shine.yahoo.com/shine-food/great-gatsby-party-hors-doeuvres-062100501.html?vp=1

You'll need: - 2 cups ricotta cheese - 4 large eggs - 2 teaspoons vanilla extract - 6 teaspoons Splenda brown sugar (or to taste) - cupcake papers Baking instructions: ~ Set oven to 400 degrees ~ Mix all ingredients together until it resembles pancake batter ~ spray cupcake papers with Pam ~ In a cupcake pan, fill 12 cupcake papers to the top ~ bake for 35 minutes YOU'RE WELCOME. Trust me. Ps - the bottoms will be moist - it's unavoidable but still delicious. - Kaylee Ann ~ Surgerversary 6/11/2012

A few of you might remember that I posted a week or so ago about feeling very sick. I was 3 weeks out of surgery when it started. I told you how I was weak and shaky, my heart rate was getting erratic and my BP too low. My BP since then has intermittently gone too high then back to too low. I was having to use an electronic shopping cart due to weakness. I was feeling worse daily and getting scared. Depression and anger started creeping in on me. I wasn't able to exercise and my weight loss was very slow compared to others. The main suggestions here were up-ing protein and water but I was already getting enough and I knew it. I got in to see my primary doc Monday and h…

I need some help. I will start the puréed stage in about a week. At about the same time college football season starts. My dilemma is the group of friends I watch games with have always gone to BW3 (they are superstitious so no changing the gathering place). Any suggestions for eating something while I'm there? It's going to be a huge challenge. I really want to go. I know my friends will be very supportive. I'm just trying to figure out a way to "fit in" and be part of the group. I thought about not eating, but usually when you sit for 3-4 hours in a restaurant you need to buy something. Any thoughts? Thanks.

  20. My Dr. and the nut has a book that was given to me prior to surgery. I have read it for six months before surgery. Phase 1 wasSull liquid sugar free.Phase 2 was called pureed Sugar Free now she says it is "Mushies" This is much more restrictive than the soft food Phase 3 diet. Both are only 1/4 cup but phase 2 is like cottage cheese, applesauce, cream of wheat and pureed Soups. Why is it so important to not eat refried Beans maybe some turkey chili etc as long as it is pureed? Has anyone ever had a diet this restrictive? I have to be on phase 2 for 4 to 6 weeks. Thanks Mark

I really enjoy eating steel cut its from trader joes mixed with my Protein powder. It is a good injection of Fiber and slow burning carbs to my diet to fuel both my day and workouts. The flavor and sweetness comes from the flavor of your Protein Powder. For example, my protein powder is Cookies and cream, so I get a yummy cookies flavored oatmeal. You can add as much protein as you desire. I try and add as close to 40 g as possible in order to maximize the amount of protein my body will recess in a 2-3 hour window. I am not concerned about calories though this is probably a 500 calorie meal. Eating it before a workout really helps. My calories tend to be around 2000 pe…

My favorite roll doesn't have rice or seaweed anyway. It's just tuna wrapped around shredded crab meat. One of my friends had her surgery 4 years out and said she started with eating the inside of spring rolls because it was soft and went down easy then graduated her self to small bites of teriyaki chicken or some grilled fish. Then slowly moved to rolls with rice. I already do just fine with grilled fish. I love salmon. What do you guys think? Any suggestions? Maybe a…

We have a juicer at home and I decided today to make a drink for my husband using 3 large kale leaves, 1/2 a cucumber and 1/4 of a small pineapple. Very refreshing and we can get veggies in too! My husband loved it (over a year out & works out like a beast) and we will make it again occasionally- because we all know you're not supposed to drink your calories! I had 3 oz to try it- being six weeks out it's not something to have very frequently. I'd like to try a drink with all veggies sometime- any good recipes out there?

Been really scared to eat stuff other then the usual chicken, cheese, eggs etc etc. But to my surprise my stomach didn't reflect it. Had 1/4 for lunch then another 1/4 for later lunch and still have some left over. Looks like my stomach gave me the All Clear for veggies. I feel soo much better now.

four weeks out my blood total protein level dropped below the reference range--ouch! I thought i was doing well keeping my daily intake to 74gm daily. I wonder if it reflects that first week after surgery when i could get so little in. I am going to increase the protein to 80+. that could explain my fatigue. part of it could be that i have been exercising everyday and that may be consuming some of the protein. doesnt leave much room for any carbs. I am eating about 750 calories per day and working hard to get that in. i had decreased my protein shakes by half, so I will have to increase that a bit. otherwise my blood levels were good.

Then another . . Then one more OMG it was amazing. I had to put the jar away before I drank the whole thing. I've never craved pickles so bad before. Could it have been the salt?
