I'm 3mos out since I've had my surgery, and I've been following the nutritional rules and guidelines that you're suppose to follow after having the surgery (except the protein shakes), but today I had a craving for something sweet :drool5:. This wasn't the first craving I've had, but this was the first one I acted on . I stoped at krispy kreme and had a donut, I feel bad; but honestly this is the first time that I've eatten something that I feel I shouldn't have. I'm not sure if I feel bad because I shouldn't have done it or I feel bad, because this is the first time I've allowed myself to a "treat". Is this bad? I mean don't get me wrong I'm not doing this…

I am not trying to promote a certain brandname, but I love it. It's like the "Bullet". It's a blender for one, the top turns into a nice cup, clean up is easy too. It also comes with a little cup, that work very well to make the puddings and I even use it to blenderize chicken, tuna, soups, for one. I bought mine through Medifast about two years ago, I keep one at home and one at work.

Do you think it is better to watch your Carbs or your calories? I watch my protein very close. But it would just be easier to watch protein then carbs OR calories. WHat does everyone do??

I've been tracking my food intake on thedailyplate some days for the last two weeks. I'm usually between 400-550 calories (I'm 5 weeks out). That is my total calories. My net calories (they subtract calories burned during exercise) usually fall between 100-300. Is this okay for right now or should I work on eating more calories? Thanks for any input you have.

I'm concerned after reading a post on another forum about eating popcorn post-op. I'm 6.5 weeks out & I've had popcorn on several occassions (including yesterday). I honestly never thought about it not being good for me or possibly getting stuck in my staple line. Should I be concerned at this point? Would I be having trouble if something was wrong. Now I'm worrying about it!

Just ran across the very best website I've found for analyzing the nutritional content of foods. It shows all the usual stuff (fats, carbs, Proteins, etc, and more....it also shows glycemic index, nutrient balance, Vitamin content, Protein quality, types of fatty acid content, minerals, sterols... I love it. Let me know what you think. Nutrition Facts and Analysis for Fish, sardine, Atlantic, canned in oil, drained solids with bone By the way, I received approval for the sleeve surgery from Aceves' office today...Yippie! Cajun

Hi I am 3 weeks post op and am struggling with the thought that i will ever be able to eat normally ever again! I still only manage a few spoonfuls every meal, and can manage 2 meals, 1 fromage frais and 2 glasses milk along with 2 glasses juice. Some times i can't even manage that. Everyone else around me eats normally, and i am starting to think that i will never be able to eat normal food again. I am so scared of being sick, have only done it once and am trying my best to not do it again! I would really appreciate it if someone who has been post op for 6 months + could shed some light on what they eat normally in the day now. Thanks so much:thumbup1:

At work, I always bring my lunch from home so I can spend my lunch hour relaxing in my office with the door closed while surfing VST. However, I have been eating mostly frozen dinners for lunch, which tend to be high in carbs and sodium. I am curious, I would love to see what others are packing for their lunches. Hopefully I can get some good, healthy ideas from you guys before I hit the grocery store. Thanks.

I just got a Magic Bullet type mixer at JC Penney. End cost will be about $21.00 (there is a $10 rebate). Look very similar and works nicely. Knew that many like to use the mini mixers and thought I should pass this along.

Here are a few recipes that helped me through the full liquid stage that I thought I would share with you guys: 1-2 TB Simply Jif Low Carb Peanut Butter 1 small jar baby food Bananas Stage 1 1-2 packets Splenda (depending on your tastes) 1/4 c or more Milk to make it as smooth as you want Place everything in your blender and you are ready for a really yummy shake. I also added some unflavored Protein powder to this. _________________________________________________________________ 1 container of Yoplait low fat yogurt - 100 cals (peach is delicious!) 1 container of non fat milk (I use the yogurt container to measure) - ~90 cals 1/2 frozen banana (I t…

I seriously have been living off of chicken broth, grape juice, crystal light pops, and Water. I tried mixing a carnation instant Breakfast (sf) the other day and it was way too sweet. I've tried the Protein shakes, and again, gagging on the sweetness. I need some variety before I go insane! Also, I haven't been taking my Vitamins. I know that is terrible, but I need to take them with food and I'm afraid if I take them on liquids only that I'll puke! I hate to puke. I'm being a baby, no? Someone tell me to suck it up!

So this morning I made a Protein shake since I've been low on protein intake lately. I was looking in my frig (think "grazing mode") and I saw this head of Romaine lettuce I got yesterday. I was thinking Mmmmmm, I have a great head of lettuce, cheese, broccoli, and other yummies, I could make a salad instead! I started laughing at myself. You know, before surgery that stuff would have sat in the frig until it went bad and then I would have pitched it in favor of fast food, or some other gross, greasy, nasty, no-nutrition kind of food. It just got me to thinking about the changes in my thinking since WLS. I have made a complete 180 in my thinking. I used to eat sa…

I'm 12 months post VSG, I'm 20 lbs from goal. My problem is getting in my protien consitently. Every protien suppliement I've tried I find intolerable. I was doing better for a few months and my hair started to grow back, but now it's falling out again. I know it's my diet. I guess I'm at the point that I'm not sure what my diet is supposed to look like. I have also been snacking on crackers between meals, which is probably why the scale hasn't moved in a couple of months. Does anyone have suggestions for my diet that would help me to get in the needed protien? Any advise is greatly appreciated. Deanna:help::help:

I got the coolest book at Borders the other night -- just started thumbing through it more thoroughly this morning. It is entitled The Complete Book of food Counts - The Book that Counts it All. It is by Corinne T. Netzer. The cost was $7.99 (plus I had a 40% off coupon). It counts everything -- Calories, Proteins, Carbs, Cholesterol, Sodim, Fat and Fiber. Not only does it have generic descriptions - i.e. Peanut Butter. It has named-brand listed as well - i.e. Jif - Jif Creamy, Jif Crunchy, Jif Extra-Crunch, Jif to Go, Jif Reduced Fat, Simply Jif. It also has counts for foods purchased at restaurants, i.e., Panera Bread, Taco Bell, etc. It's nearly …

Okay - so I am having NO luck finding the Syntrax Nectar products in Las Vegas - have called 4 different GNCs and none of them carry it, as well as several other health food stores. One store does carry it but is out and MIGHT have it in by Saturday. I have to find something with protein that I can do NOW. I can't tolerate the Isopure. So I'm guessing the next best thing would be the Matrix products? What are the best flavors? Any other suggestions? I have had a massive headache since surgery and I can't get rid of it -- I am sure part of the reason is the lack of protein because I can't seem to find something I can even just tolerate, let alone actually e…

I have my surgery scheduled for 7/10 so I have been trying many different Protein drinks, powders, etc. for the post-op period. IDS protein shots are palatable but a lousy form of protein (collagen), whey Gourmet powder was okay, a bit gritty. The peanut-butter chocolate was good. Lean Desserts:lol0: were my favorite, both mixed with Water (for the clear phase) and even better with skim milk (for the full liquid and beyond). My favorite is whipped vanilla, but the chocolate fudge and banana cream were also very good. For clear liquid variety, (besides the protein), I found sugar free hawaiian punch powder in fruit juicy red (remember that!?), raspberry blue, a…

So I was in Target last night (you'll find I spend too much time there) and was looking at all the various protein drinks, bars, etc. I find the Atkins bars and shakes very good ... especially that marshmallow mud pie ... OMG ... anyway, I regress ... over by the pharmacy, where they have the slimfast and atkins, etc., they had a 4-pack of Pure Protein Shakes ... They are 11 fl. oz; have 110 calories, 1 g total fat, 5 g carbs, 2 g fier, 1 g sugar and 21 g Protein. I purchased the Cookies 'n Creme flavor. Tonight, I was missing my fruit smoothies (haven't figured out a way to have them on the pre-op diet) so I opened a can, put it in the blender, added some ice and blen…

Tonight I dished out 1/4 of ricotta cheese. Even in my smallest dish it looked lost sitting there. Pre surgery that would not have filled my tooth. I looked at it and thought to myself that no way is this going to be enough for me. You know what? I think it was too much. I love the sleeve.

I already posted about the night I found out my dad broke his hip. We were all scheduled to take him back to Oregon with me. My daughter and great SIL were willing to let him move in with them. My daughter is an RN, was the director of an assisted living home, and spent a lot of her nursing school days working in nursing homes. Sbe felt that she was the best person to care for him since he fell and broke his pelvis in April. After leaving the ER and realizing this was now all down the tubes, I headed straight to the Dairy Queen for a blizzard. Talk about self destruction. I've already experienced what ice cream does to me. I spent the next several hours on the toilet…
