Hi everyone, Living in NYC, food is everywhere. Quick bites between meetings, late dinners, endless takeout options. Add bariatric surgery into the mix and it can feel even more confusing. Protein goals, portions, hydration timing, balanced mealsāitās a lot to think about. Whatās helped me is learning the āwhyā behind nutrition instead of just following food lists. Once I understood what protein actually does for healing and muscle, how balanced meals help steady energy, and why meal timing matters, choices felt less overwhelming. It shifted things from feeling restrictive to feeling intentional. Especially after surgery, hitting protein targets and building balanced meal…

Does anybody know what is the fastest way to get my body and mind back after yes I know, horrible neglect on my vitamins. I just felt so good, sold my house, moved, relocated and 5 months later I realize this week it got me like a ton of bricks. I had been feeling some symptoms but been so busy that just disregarded the small amount of brain fog, some aches and pains and slight headaches. This week it went from 0-9. Anyone else has had this issue and whatās the fastest way to recover? I am eating super well 24/7 now and foods dense in lots of nutrients but itās been 4 days and still have some plugged heating, tired, migraine has somewhat subsided and brain fog as well has…

Iāve been looking for a safe and adaptable workout app to use during the active recovery phase after surgery. My nutrition plan is pretty structured, and I canāt risk anything too intense or that conflicts with my dietary limits. Recently, I saw a few posts calling MadMuscles a scam, but also some positive mentions ā so I decided to test it myself. Hereās my short madmuscles app review from a post-op perspective. The interface is easy to navigate, and the workouts can be adjusted by duration and intensity. Thatās great for someone rebuilding stamina. The nutrition part, however, isnāt specifically tailored for post-op users, so I still stick to my clinicās meal plan. What…

My husband likes to go to the movies, but Iām dreading it because I used to LOVE eating movie popcorn and drinking an Icee. The delicious smell of popcorn lingers in the movie theater. Now that I canāt have my favorite movie treats I know itās going to be hard being in that environment, but I donāt want to be unfair to my husband and stop going to the movies. I know that I donāt necessarily have to eat anything at the movies, but are there aNy suggestions on what movie snacks I could eat-Im only one month after having gastric sleeve?

I have a tentative surgery date of June 17th so I'll be starting my 2 week liver shrink / pre-op diet the first week of June. My nutritionist said I will have to drink meal replacement shakes for breakfast, lunch, & supper. I have Premier Protein powder at home, but he said that is not a meal REPLACEMENT, it's just a high protein shake. What meal replacement shakes do you recommend? Which ones tastes the best? I don't think I can drink the ones that have a heavy vitamin taste.

So I follow the food before and after thread and Iām always amazed by all the yummy looking things they come up with but I am more of the five ingredients or less kind of cook so I lurke and admire but rarely post anything. I really struggle with variety and I am always looking for new ideas. Today I bought lean beef, mahi mahi and chicken breasts and now Iām sitting here trying to think of what to make for dinner but nothing sounds good. Does anyone have any tasty, yet somewhat easy, recipes or suggestions. I am trying to start eating close to how I will be eventually eating post revision surgery that is scheduled for early august. What your plan for dinner tonight??

How can I intake more protein and more calories without eating a huge amount of food throughout the day, all day long? It's almost impossible for me to get in 3 meals a day, and small snacking all day isn't possible either. So what are some ways I can get in extra protein without heavy shakes/smoothies? Or some meals/snacks that have a lot of protein and/or calories in them, but aren't a huge amount of food (if that makes sense)! Thanks for the help in advance!

Good morning all... I have been getting bored with my protein shakes so for the last 2 weeks I have been going to this nutrition store to get a protein shake and tea every morning. The protein shakes and tea are made with Herbalife products. The shakes are 24 grams of protein, and the teas have a bunch of vitamins. What are your thoughts on using these as part of your plan...

I have been doing really good with the Baritastic App logging everything until now. I made homemade Turkey Meatballs with Peppers and onions and marinara for dinner but I have no clue how to log it. It made 16 meatballs and Iām early out so I plan to eat one but the only way I knke to do it is to say like 1oz Turkey, and literally reduce all the ingredients down dividing by 16 but thatās pretty hard and how do you enter 1/16 of an egg lol. I know that there has to be an easier way to do it then that. If not, any other app suggestions so that I can add entire meals and then just enter the portion that I ate?

I LOVE and I MEAN LOVE SWEETS! I'm looking forward to people sharing low sugar or no sugar added sweet treats (Recipes and Favs). I have been eating sweets ever since my surgery. I have never stopped eating sweets. I'm a great cook so I make all the sweets myself! From my own protein bars to even Yes my own chocolate. I never stopped eating sweets and I still continue to lose weight, I just make a lot of dupes and it's very satisfying ... I'm 11 months postop. Let's get to sharing those tasty treats.

When you guys log your food into the tracking apps when do you weigh or measure food. For instance meat weighs the most out of freezer and the least after itās cooked. I assume Iām not supposed to input the frozen weight but do I use the thawed weight or the cooked weight. Also with like rice, do I enter the dry measurement or the cooked one which is twice as much. Further for like veggies would I measure in cups before or after itās cooked?? Just trying to be the most accurate I can but these seem to make pretty big differences.

So I am day 6 into soft food and I am very quickly remembering how much food I wasted with my sleeve since my hubby eats like a bird too and itās just us. I am going to try freezing stuff this time. I made Turkey meatballs and lean beef chili and froze them already but Iām wondering if I can freeze the Turkey Taco filling I made last night. I assume the Guacamole and Pico I will just have to make less next time but I would like to at least freeze the meat if I can. Is there a trick to it or will the freezer ziplocks work?

My first day of soft foods is Labor Day and since they usually have snow crabs on sale I was thinking that would be a tasty choice for my first soft food. I just want to steer clear of the garlic butter. I tried googling for lighter ideas to dip it in but didnāt have any luck. I was thinking I could make it with I canāt believe itās not butter light but I used to have a recipe. Iām pretty sure it had sautĆ©ed onions and it used broth. It wasnāt bad, I wish I had saved it. Anyways, anyone have a recipe like this or another idea of what to dip crab in? The more I search I think it may have been intended as a lobster or scampi sauce. I found one that may work but if anyone ha…

I have never really been an oatmeal fan. Did try overnight oats once witb peanut butter and some other stuff and I liked it but i learned that that added up to a lot of carbs so I didnāt stick with it. Anyways itās an option on this puree diet and I do have the rolled oats left in the pantry so I thought Iād maybe give it a go again. During purĆ©e stage or not, how do you take your oats? Hot or cold? And with what add ins?

I am 1 year post-op (exactly today!) In the months after the surgery, I have not had any significant issues with taste or food aversion. There were a couple of changes with foods that I used to love that, now, I could take them or leave them. I travel a lot for business, and when I am away from home eating in restaurants, I have started having experiences where certain foods taste like... seafood. I *hate* seafood in all forms, and always have. Meat is the most frequent problem, especially beef (except ground beef which is fine). Chicken is never a problem. I was just in China for 3 weeks, in many different cities, and everywhere I went, things were tasting…

My sleeve surgery was a few years ago and apparently some things have changed. I got some of the premiere vanilla shakes that I drank immediately pre and post op and I couldnāt even get a whole one down. I remembered that I did get sick of them and I switched to their clear protein drinks but apparently they are not as popular because they arenāt as readily available. I was thinking something from the grocery store makes more sense so I can get it if Iām out and about plus I donāt have to buy it by the case. Does Anyone have any favorites. I donāt like peach or orange.

Today I tried Panara Breads Cobb salad. I did not like the green goddess dressing but my aunt absolutely loved it. I ate my sandwich and brought the salad home to eat with my bolthouse farms yogurt ranch and it was delicious. I got half sandwich and half salad and that was enough for lunch and dinner. I also like chick filaās market and south west salads and recently tried Wendyās apple pecan salad which was okay but the second time it gave me an upset stomach which was weird. Where else can I get a good salad. I am looking for places that I can go with others that are not on a diet.

Has anyone tried the gardencup meal delivery service? Everything is in a cup to take to go they have soups, salads, power cups, produce cups, and dip cups as well as snack cups. They are $10-12 each so kinda pricey but Iām justifying it for myself since my husband doesnāt eat what I eat and produce tends to go bad on me before I can use it all as do all the different cheeses and stuff to make a variety of salads. That plus the convenience factor are making them enticing. I am looking at the protein and the mini cup salads have less than the regular sized ones which is unfortunate since post surgery the mini one will probably be the better portion size. The m…

Okay so I am still so terrible with this stuff but my dietician makes it seem so much more confusing and I really need to understand this so I can get it right this time. I asked her what my requirements would be post SADI surgery and she said 1000-1200 calories 90g protein 90 carbs (45 fruit and veggies and 45 from starch), and 15g fat. I am trying to eat similar to that now to see what itās like and I am logging my food. I figured my portions will be a little larger so I wonāt be able to hit the exact goals but wanted to see where I am. This morning I did great with my protein iced coffee which is just a caramel shake with some coffee mixed in. Low calorie an…

Hi everyone, I had Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy in September 2023. my starting weight (on the day of surgery) was 102 KG and today march 27th 2024 I am 70.6 KG so I've lost a total of 31.4 KG. My height is 165 cm. so I believe I'm almost close to my weight goal. I want to lose maybe 8-10 more kilos and I think that's good enough for me. I took photos of my body on November and yesterday I took photos as well to compare both. however what I'm noticing is that although weight number has gone down, I do see difference in shape of my body (legs, arms, face, back) but I have an issue with my stomach. it has gotten better and smaller, however for someone almost goi…

I recently discovered Sweet Baby Rays sugar free Hickory BBQ sauce which isnāt bad at all. Not quite as sweet as regular BBQ but it satisfied the craving. Then I learned here this morning that G Hughes makes a whole line of sugar free sauces, marinades and dressings. Just wondering if anyone else has tried those or has any other brands that they thought were good. I am trying to find a lower calorie versions to replace each of my pre surgery favorites (itās amazing how many calories are in condiments). So far I have found a pretty good replacement for My ranch by Bolthouse farms. Itās not sugar free, but Itās made with yogurt so it is 50 calories a serving and that SBR B…

Iām really struggling lately with head hunger. Iām about 8.5 months post op from mini bypass and the sickness and nausea has subsided (yay) but the restriction has also eased a lot. I find myself wanting to just eat because it tastes good. I know Iām not hungry but Iām really having a hard time with it and looking for any advice on how people handle it. Iāve gained four pounds in about a week. I know I tend to fluctuate at this point but Iām getting nervous that Iām going to mess it all up.

Im looking for family members or persons that have used the Liquacel protein. My mom went into kidney failure Dec 13 2022 and I found her not far from going to heaven and the amazing drs and god brought her back to us. Since then she has had a hard time with a good diet and fluid intake. She had to have emergency gallbladder removal surgery on June 2nd which just made life even harder for her. Her protein level keeps dropping and she is having issues with the bathroom. Does anyone know what the ones that are flavorless really taste like? She is so picky but Im running out of options to get her what she needs. Thank you, Worried daughter

I am not crazy about the dietitian attached to my hospital team. She seems to be on autopilot and does the bare minimum of inquiry. I am still early- 1 month post op RYN - and losing steadily. However, down the road I think the connection I have with my nutritionist/dietitian should be a positive one. Has anyone gone outside their assigned dietitian and chosen to work with someone else? I feel like there are better more creative, insightful and supportive people out there who are invested in their clients.

I have regained too much weight and want to restart my food program. Can someone help me to remember how much protein, carbs, fat, etc, that your Doctor or nutritionist suggested? I was sleeved in Mexico in 2013 and did not have the best follow-up with them. My own fault, I have just let life and Covid shutdowns take over. I have gotten back into some bad habits. I'm getting back on myfitnesspal and need to use the tool I was given 8 years ago. Thanks for advice
