Oh, tic tacs, those delicious little 2 calorie mints can cause some serious issues if you're thinking about having them. Serving size: 1 tic tac, Calories per tic tac: 2. Sugar, according to the box: 0 g. But my title isn't a lie. That 0g of sugar is a sneaky little brat. It's actually 0.5g of sugar. So, the more tic tacs you have, the more sugar you're taking in. Also, the calories do add up, but with how little calories you're taking in per day as a bariatric patient, that matters far less than the sugar. Guess who had a blood sugar crash due to an insulin spike due to too much sugar...

  9. So my MD had a goal of only 60g of protein but I think I am loosing too quickly and want to increase it to hopefully stop this hair loss that I am freaking out about. I do a 30g premier shake every day then have an egg, lunch meat, tuna etc. It's just volume is an issue. I can only eat 1 egg in 15-20 min but nothing else for an hour at least. At dinner a 2oz piece of meat (ground beef chicken anything) and I am stuffed. I get in maybe a half cup of fruit or veggies during the day just to get some fiber in. I feel like I shouldn't push the volume up but I also feel like I am spending the entire day thinking about trying to get more food in small amounts all day to tr…

Yeah, I know that it's only September, but this will be my first Thanksgiving post-op. Of the standard stuff, I know eat in small amounts, moderation, and stop when I'm full, but what sorts of alternatives do people suggest making?

  12. Hi Sleeve Family, Just made this high protein dish and was wondering if anyone can show me how to determine the nutritional value per 2 ounce servings? Of course for us, no crackers plus I blended the ingredients as well. Can't eat now due to being 1 week into 2 week liquid stage but wanted to get jump start on all my great finding recipes before I head back to work in a few weeks!! PLEASE try if you are in the soft/mushy stage now & report back with you thumbs up or down!!!

I'm 10 months in gastric bypass and lost about 80 so far, and haven't last anymore since October. I know I'm eating wrong and what to change and eat things I know will make me sick. I'm ashamed of myself and want to change. I drink with food and over eat because of that. If I don't I can only eat about 4-6 of depending on what it is.. I look at calories and carb and try to stick it out at work. Shake in the morning an Adkins meal for lunch by then it's like 500+ plus and feel that I've over eaten by then and then get home and stress over it and eat more.

  14. My surgeon said no soda ever. In some paperwork it says no nuts or nut butters for a year post RYN or before with caution. I see a lot of others here have peanut butter. I can have a 1/4 cup of nuts over the course of an hour and feel ok. Any specific food your MD said to avoid long term?

  17. Looking for input and opinions from those who've been there. I'm exactly 5 months post op. I had severe complications from March til July which prevented me from eating much. So, I'm progressing slowly on my diet. I saw the Nut for the first time yesterday. I average between about 600 and 850 calories a day. Mostly 600-700. Which feels adequate and satisfying. Nut says in one breath not to track my calories, and in another breath that my goal for now should be 1000 calories a day!! I really don't think I could eat that much with my restriction, and I'm sure I'd gain weight. Now, I know she's the professional, but I live in this body!! What do you all think? Up …

Posting this here too...I'm a year out now and down 200 pounds. I've still got about 27 pounds to go and I'm wondering how many calories I should be eating now? I'm incredibly active - on days I don't work I usually walk or run 5 miles plus strength training. I have a very active job so even on days that I work I get a minimum of 10,000 steps, though usually it's closer to 20,000. Once I did 34,000! Currently I eat between 1000 - 1200 calories and get about 105 - 115 grams of protein a day. I definitely feel like I get hungry much quicker and stay full for far less time. My nutritionist is terrible at responding to my emails so I figured I'd ask the community how many cal…

I need advise, I have one more week of my full liquid diet and haven’t been consuming 60 grams of protein. I am worried I will stall so soon because of this. Top it off this morning I got a decaf coffee with cream and mocha. The sugar is high but need one good thing. Should I just throw it away? And does the protein affect weight loss ?

  21. I'm struggling with staying in the 400-500 cal range while getting in enough protein! Any suggestions? I get in between 40 to 50 g of protein daily. Feels like a frustrating puzzle at times.. Thanks for any and all suggestions. BTW down 36 lbs!

I started back with IF about a month ago, once I felt I could consume enough nutrition in a limited time. I am doing 16/8 or there abouts. It is going just fine with plenty of energy and no hunger at all in the mornings, However, when it is time to eat, I am usually feeling pretty hungry. Even though my portion control is OK, I am getting a bit of tummy upset/foamies/slimies with the first meal of the day. I suspect I am eating too quickly. This doesn't happen with other meals. I know I need to slow down, but I wonder if the empty pouch just gets a shock when food enters for the first time each day. Anyone else experiencing this with IF? Do you break your fast with a r…

Hi, can anyone tell me how much protein one should be eating per day?

  34. Started by Ellf,

So, one thing I've noticed, three months out, is that I'm able to tolerate more of certain foods than I am of others. Wendy's chili, I can eat a full small chili and not have any stomach issues, but if I try to have anything more than a 3 ounce lean meat burger, I have issues. A small chili is eight fluid ounces, but I figure it's at least half fluid in of itself. I've been eating protein and tracking my meals, but I'm seeing other programs have serving size guidelines. I forget if I do, but I have a protein target. What's everyone serving sizes looking like, and how far along are you?

So today I had my first strong craving for a food. I’m 3 weeks out and don’t plan on going back to bread at all bc I know it’s a very big weakness for me. Any suggestions for a grilled cheese alternative? I made pretzels with protein powder, egg whites and psyllium powder the other day but I don’t know if I can use this same recipe to make a fake bread. Anyone find an alternative to this that was good?

  37. Okay, so I was logging my food for the last couple of days (I’m the worst at falling into the habit of logging regularly and find myself playing catch-up a lot) and I realize that I fall into so much repetition in my daily habits. Now I’m not saying that this is necessarily a bad thing, but I’m also thinking that for the best chance of long-term success variety and broadening my palette will be important. I’ve always considered myself a bit of a foodie and love trying new things. I’d love to have a thread here where we all post our fave new recipes or types of foods that we’ve discovered and modifications to previous “unhealthy” foods or dishes to help with we…

  38. Does anyone know of an app that tracks TRUE nutritional numbers? I've been using Baritastic app to track my macros (protein, carbs, sugar, fiber, etc.). But I find it rarely deducts the correct amount of fiber so the "net carb" count is far too high. And it's difficult for me to track whole foods and items made with multiple ingredients, thus no bar code Suggestions?

Should I be taking a multivitamin to get the RDA for RNY patients "and" taking extra Vitamin D3, Calcium, Iron and B12 "or" just taking a multivitamin with the RDA? Example: they said to take 1500mg of calcium a day...if my multivitamin provides 1500mg, is the vitamin enough or should I be taking the vitamin and an extra 1500mg of calcium? TIA

My coworker invited me to go along to Jimmy Johns with her. I was hesitant because I LOVE Jimmy Johns and knew that the smell would make me really want a sandwich. Since I'm only 6 weeks post-op I am staying FAR away from breads and pastas. I have never noticed their Unwiches before (why would I when I was enjoying their delicious bread?) but they will make any of their subs into an Unwich, which is just a lettuce wrap. I had the Club Lulu, my favorite sandwich, as an Unwich today and it is amazingly good!!! 30g of Protein (if you can eat the whole thing which, of course, I couldn't....managed about 3 bites) but it will make for an excellent snack or next meal.
