Hello I am 20 months post gastric sleeve and I just turned 40 two months ago.. I do have children already never had fertility issues in the past, but I know age slows these things down. Me and my DP are trying for one last bundle and I'd like to advice from you all about what vitamins you take or took when you conceived post op? I'd like to hear about any success stories someone my age or older. I will of course be getting information from my doctor. But reading others stories and getting advice does help you not feel alone in your journey. I'm currently still taking my 2x prenatal, vitamin d, and b-complex. TIA.

I was recently told that I have PCOS. My husband and I are currently trying to conceive, and have been for over a year. I get very frustrated and critical of myself because I keep hearing “you might have better luck if you lose more weight”. I’m so proud of where I am, though. I’m 7 years post-GBS, and I’ve kept all the weight off (125 pounds). But it always feels like it’s never good enough. Any tips or advice? Thanks! -Sarah

  4. So there have been talks about pregnancy and babies with my boyfriend. With history of PCOS, my cycles have become regular and I have been ovulating for the last year or so. We may try for pregnancy may be sometime next year. My question is, anyone here who got pregnant after WLS? If yes, did you end up losing your post pregnancy weight? Or was it difficult to bring it back to pre-pregnancy baseline? Currently I am happy with where I am with my weight. But also, looking forward to starting a family if destiny permits. But, the weight gain cycle of pregnancy concerns me. Putting on the weight will naturally happen but I was wondering if the bypass tool will help me l…

Hey all, I got VSG in August 2022. I've lost over 150lbs and just found out I'm 5 weeks pregnant (first time!). I've spoken to my surgeon, nutritionist and obgyn, but no one had a solid recommendation for prenatal. My surgeon said to take 2 prenatal vitamins which will give me what I need, while my obgyn said to compare my bariatric multivitamin to prenatal and if possible, stick with what I've been using. I do have a prescription for folic acid that I take daily which is why I assume the obgyn is not entirely worried about the prenatal itself. They also discussed making sure there's not too much iron which could lead to constipation. Anyways,…

I had VSG in 2017 and found myself pregnant with my first! I have not taken vitamins as I was supposed to post op. But I have been taking prenatal vitamins since finding out. I lost a total of 150lbs since surgery, and this last year another 20 due to stress. I’m concerned the weight loss will continue (I know I’m just stressing more, it’s kind of my thing) For you bariatric mommies, were you able to hold enough food for you and the baby?

Please help. I’m trying to decide if I should get wls and the right kind for me (sleeve, Sadi, minigb). I really want to have a healthy pregnancy afterwards. Do you have to deliver by C-Section after all wls? It is harder to have a healthy pregnancy/baby? Thank you for any help.

Hi all. Just looking for advice. I will be 18 months post-op from gastric bypass and maintaining around 180. I am looking to get pregnant soon. I got back in touch with my program and PCP and they all seem a little clueless about what I need to do to have a successful pregnancy. Can anyone who had a healthy pregnant post RNY share their vitamin regime? Anything else you did that was different than a non weight loss surgery pregnancy??

  9. I was wondering if any of you would be able to share some information with me regarding getting pregnant/pregnancy after a bypass (mgb or regular). I am so mentally ready to have a baby but all the unknowns are stressing me out! 1. Did you have to get cleared by your surgeon to start trying and if so, what did they check? 2. Did you work with a dietician to get the right nutrients/calories for yourself & your baby or did you figure it out yourself? 3. How much weight did you gain and did you lose it after? 4. Did you get followed up as a high risk pregnancy because of your bypass? 5. Did you have a caesarean because of your bypass? 6. Did you have complications r…

Hi everyone! I am 10.5 years post gastric bypass and I am finally pregnant! It's been a long journey. 2 years after WLS I found out I had thyroid cancer. Then we tried for a year and ovulation wasn't detected. We stopped trying and now 6 years later we are finally pregnant! Woo! I currently weigh 123, down from my high of 260! I also eat a fully plant-based diet and generally feel very healthy. I'm excited, BUT I am incredibly nervous. My PCP checked all my vitamin levels before we started trying and all looked great, except my B12 was high... I had some very short lasting and not heavy bleeding right around implantation, so I went last week for hcg level c…

We have been trying to conceive for 7 years now. I was diagnosed with PCOS from a very early age and never had regular periods. We started fertility treatments in 2016, got pregnant via IUI 2017 and miscarried 1 month later. I was devastated and waited 3 years later to try again. Unfortunately I had to get uterine polyps removed that year and had to wait. Fast forward to 2021 where we started again and was told both tubes are blocked and we would have to do IVF but had to lose a significant amou…

Hi, All - Tomorrow is my first egg retrieval day and I am disappointed, to say the least, that I did not respond well to the meds (300 IU of gonal rediject and 300 IU of menopur) and they are only expecting to retrieve 2 eggs. I have pcos and have been taking 50 mg of spironolactone. I was told I no longer needed metformin a few years ago after losing 100 lbs (that I was no longer pre-diabetic) but I've read that some women took it and that it helped with weight loss and getting pregnant. So I'm going to look into that. I've also been told to look into taking wegovy through a local medical weight loss program that is run as a part of that particular hospital's bariatr…

Hello. I just found out this Easter that I am pregnant 5 months after VSG surgery (SURGERY date 11/15/2021). I am excited but at the same time I am very nervous as I'm older and I have no idea how this pregnancy will go now that I've had VSG surgery. I know we are supposed to wait until 1 year after surgery to get pregnant but I did not believe it would be possible to get pregnant so quick as we had been trying for the past 6 years and nothing. I have/had PCOS and that was the reason we couldn't get pregnant. Anyone else been through this at around this timeframe after VSG surgery. Any tips would be appreciated.

I’ve always heard that bariatric surgey restores fertility and I have resorted to bariatric surgery after years of unexplained infertility.. two years post-op and I’m still struggling to get pregnant either naturally or through IVF. Been to consult many doctors and every doctor had his own theory.. the finally doctor I have consulted suggested that my bariatric surgery might have caused more harm than good and it could have damaged the white part of my eggs (mitochondria). There is not test to check for mitochondria damage but fixing it can be a challenge! I don’t know how true is this statement but what I know is that I’ve struggled getting pregnant even before the surge…

Hi everyone, I am pregnant after having vsg on June of last year. I am happy but also very nervous. Any of you like to share your experience with pregnancy after vsg. I just feel like this will be totally different from my last pregnancy because I am older and I now have the sleeve. Also I hear a lot of people saying that we’re told not to get pregnant until about 12 to 18 months post op. So I want comments from those who got pregnant sooner than that time frame as well. Thanks in advance!

So I had my surgery out of the country about 2 years ago and am now 7 weeks pregnant! I had my first prenatal appointment, which confirmed that I’m pregnant and all is well. I am with Kaiser and they enrolled me in a program they have for people who are pregnant after bariatric surgery. They are going to make me speak to a dietician once a month. Has anyone done this? Is it useful? I don’t know if I can opt out, but I’ll try if it’s just going to be monthly phone calls where they say “Keep taking your vitamins. Eat healthy. That’ll be $200.” I don’t know if this service will be covered or how much it will cost, but once a month calls seem unnecessary. TIA for any advice!

Hello everyone! I haven't posted in this forum in...ever? So, hi! I have my RNY in June 2017 with the hope that my weight loss would help my PCOS and help us conceive a second child. I am happy to report that our mission was a success and I am now 4 week postpartum! Our baby boy was born 8/25 Now, the next part of the mission beguns, which is losing the weight I gained during pregnancy. I was able to keep it on the low side, only gaining about 30-35lbs, most of which are now gone...however, I still have -at least- 7lbs I need to lose to put me at a healthy BMI. 27. I just got my VSG surgery in May of 2020. Before my surgery I was always on point with my periods. Never late, but now I'm five days late and I'm kind of scared with mixed emotions. I don't want to get my hopes up because for me it would be awesome if I was pregnant, I barely got my surgery 3 months ago and I've lost a total of 68 lbs so far and I read a post on here that supposedly because of the sudden weight loss the IUD might have a probability of moving or shifting or even coming out. I guess my question is has anyone that has had weight loss surgery had this happen to them and is there a possibility that I might be pregnant. I took a pregnancy test and it came out n…

Hi All, My DD is a couple weeks shy of 7 months. I am getting sleeved on Jan. 22. She has been breastfed since birth and now since she is eating solids, I have began storing pumped milk. My goal is to BF until she is 12-15 months. I spoke to my PCP and she is a little concerned that with the drastic cut in calories, I won't produce any milk or nutritious milk. I plan on still taking prenatal, Fenugreek, and other Vitamins to keep my supply up, but I am wondering if I will need to start the weening process now pre-op. Any thoughts?

  29. I had gastric bypass 3 months ago, I want to wait atleast a year and 150 pounds to get pregnant again. But, last time I got pregnant I gained 70 pounds, then added an additional 40 pounds on top of that 3 years after. So, needless to say I'm super scared of that happening again, and regaining all the weight I'll lose before getting pregnant again. Anyone gain alot of weight with pregnancy, or not gain a lot of weight? Any suggestions on how to not gain a lot of weight, or to maintain their weight with pregnancy? I really want to have another baby before 40... (3 more years to go). Im so confused about this.

Hi ladies, I have a fertility consult in July regarding TTC. I'm about 270 now and pretty much anticipate the doctor telling me that I'll need to lose more weight. I've lost about 150 lbs since my RNY in January 2019 but I've stalled for a while and not sure that I'll make my goal of 250 by my consultation appointment. Have any of you gotten pregnant/had any issues getting pregnant weighing 200+ lbs? I'd very much prefer to be at goal (170 lbs) when I actually start TTC but my eggs aren't getting any younger either.

So I had the sleeve in January 2018 and I am 6 weeks pregnant. I have been feeling more hungry lately and I get more full than usual after I eat. Basically I either feel like I’m starving or like I ate too much literally all day long. And nauseated on top of that. Is this normal? I don’t feel like I’m eating larger portions so I don’t know why I’m constantly sick feeling.

I know breast changes are usually the first sign, and mine feel a little different than usual and also are a bit swelled. but I’m wondering since I was so large and my breasts were stretched before, if I will really feel the changes/soreness that non-wls people have? I’m going to wait another day to test, but I’d love to hear some experiences about symptoms and what the first signs you had were! Thanks in advance ?

My periods and PMDD symptoms had worsened so I finally gave in to my doctor's suggestion to go on birth control. A few months along, my periods are regular, not as heavy, and my PMDD symptoms improved. Last week I got the call that I'm approved for sugery and I'll be having it done sometime this spring. Also last week, I was overworked and some how forgot to take my birth control pill for 3 nights in a row. I find myself for the first time ever hoping I am NOT pregnant! I really need this …

Everyone who has PCOS is different and exhibits different symptoms. I personally would have a cycle sometimes several times a month. I've never been one to "miss" my period. I would get heavy multiple periods a month. Over the last few months it's began to regulate and span about 29-31 days. Now I am 8 days late.
