Good morning! I'm about 16 months out from VSG and I think I'm pregnant. Heading to my primary care for a test this afternoon. Should I ask about doing bloodwork to check my vitamin levels? I haven't had my 1 year post op bloodwork yet because I haven't had time to schedule it and the follow up. Is there anything else I should know or ask about?

Hi Guys Ive been searching for a thread with information on this and have found bits and bobs but I thought let's start a communal thread with as much information as possible regarding pregnancy following gastric bypass. I am 14 months post op and 6 weeks pregnant ?? I spoke to my nutritionist who has advised: Exchange my regular multivitamin for pregnacare 5mg of folic acid instead of the recommended 400mcg 3-4 portions of calcium a day (milk, yoghurt, cheese) I would be getting a pregnancy letter from her next week so will post more information once I receive that. My midwife has advised: I should aim on gaining a max of 14lbs over the pr…

Hi all! I am 13 months post op and 8 weeks pregnant. I am really struggling dealing with the food cravings and being hungry all the time! I am still king mostly healthy choices but if I don’t eat like every two hours I feel sick. I have gained a few pounds already and was hoping for some diet help. I can’t eat cold meats or deli meats which made up most of my diet before. Does anyone have a diet plan they follow during pregnancy? I understand I will gain weight but I want it to be a healthy weight gain. Thanks!

Ok, so I found out my insurance doesn't cover nutritionist visits which i think is complete bullshit as I'm a gastric bypass patient who is 13 weeks pregnant. Anyways, I want to know if anyone has found a dietitian that offers detailed meal plans for pregnant WLS mommies. Maybe you have those saved and can help a girl out? More than willing to pay for a detailed meal plan. I'm the type of person that needs examples and just telling me "Oh you need 65 grams of carbs a day" will not cut it. I like to know what to buy at the store, recipes, etc. Anyways, if any mommies out there used a specific meal/recipe plan and their babies were big and healthy please let me know!!!…

Hi, I could use any insight or encouragement. I'm 2 years post VSG and had been maintaining 138 for about a year, I think (I was briefly slightly lower but I don't count that). I'd noticed it getting a little tougher to maintain my weight. I recently had an egg retrieval procedure (as in IVF, although I actually froze the eggs for later), and I'm planning on more similar procedures. They told me I would gain 3-5 pounds of water weight and should lose it within a week after the procedure. Well, I gained 5 lbs. (up to 143) and even two weeks later had lost nothing. I'm afraid my body was just looking for an opportunity to gain weight back and won't be able to lose…

Hey there beautiful ladies! I hope everyone is well and happy on their weight loss journey. I had my surgery in October of 2018 and am down a total of 86 pounds so far, my goal is to hit 175 and start trying for a baby. I was diagnosed with PCOS a few years back after I ruptured 3 large cysts and had a nasty infection in my belly. Since then, I've been coping with the diagnosis. And, at that point at least was given an understanding as why after trying to get pregnant for so long...I just wouldn't. I'm not the gal with PCOS who doesn't get a period, I get them irregularly and sometimes several times a month. I shown own stock in Tampax. Anywho...since the…

I just had surgery a month ago. I'm not in a relationship currently. I'm 30 years old. I don't have any plans on ever having a child, but if I did... I have a huge concern now given the bypass. My mother gained 100lbs when she was pregnant with me when she was 22 (she ate very healthily, but her hormones went nuts). She is just now losing that weight... 30 years later. I am terrified that would happen to me and destroy any potential weight loss success I've had. Has this happened to anyone that has gotten pregnant? Is this a concern for anyone?

Hi Everyone! I had vsg surgery June 2016. I went from 230 to 154. I got pregnant with our 3rd boy in 2017. During the pregnancy I maintained the weight until the very end I was up a few lbs to 158. I had a csection and by the time i got home from hospital I was up to 167!!!! I had gained weight after delivering which made no sense to me but i learned it was mostly fluid retention from hospital iv’s. I watched carefully what i ate and after 2 months the retention came off plus more as i was down to 144lbs. After that and 2 months of breastfeeding I developed major cravings for junk.....mostly sugar. I was also very stressed and had been hit with ppd...depression. I wa…

I had a sleeve in 2016 and lost all my extra weight At my lowest I was 109 and felt great. For the first time I was happy with my life. Then oops got pregnant. I had pcos and was on the pill but none of that mattered. Anyway so gained 54 lbs while pregnant. Delivered at 178 a week later was at 164.4 and stayed there until today. Today 4 weeks postpartum on Thursday the scale read 169.5... why is the scale going up. I should add I'm not breastfeeding. Being careful but ready to start a liquid diet at this point. Everyone keeps telling me that I need to give myself 6 weeks before jumping on the scale. But can weight fluctuate up and down after having a baby due to water? I …

So I’ve had mini gastric bypass 2 years ago and I’m finally pregnant. I switched from taking bariatric multivitamins to prenatal vitamins. I need to know if that’s ok and covers all my nutrients and minerals needs? In addition to prenatal vitamins I’m also taking 1200 mg of calcium citrate, 20mg Chelated Zinc, 5mg Folic Acid and once in a week 10,000 IU vitamin D, I would also need to know when should I have my first prenatal visit to the Obgyn? Mine is scheduled at week 6, what do I expect of it other than ultrasound and what what type of vitamin testing should be preformed? Anything else that I need to know.. I am a bit worried and excited

Hello all! I am looking to hear your stories on how your PCOS changed after weight loss surgery. I tried to conceive my first child for 2 years and was never successful. I decided that it was time to take my health more seriously. I opted for the gastric sleeve and I am looking at a surgery date for the end of March or beginning of April. So far I have been able to loose 30 pounds 4 months into the 6 month diet and exercise program. I had what I think could have been a period last week. It was extremely light for me but it did last for a good 8 days or so. I don't even remember the last time that I had a period without it being induced so I am hopeful that my cycles…

Hi everyone. Before baby I got down to 175 but I now weigh a whopping 216lbs! I am devastated. I can’t get the weight off. I literally feel like with pregnancy I lost all restriction whatsoever. I can eat a lot. Like... a lot and with breastfeeding I’m always hungry! I am speed walking 4 miles almost everyday and I’m eating relatively healthy. It’s a little difficult with baby to cook all means so I find myself “grabbing and going” more than I’d like, but I try to always make health conscious choices .... Please tell me there is something I can do to shrink my stomach back so I can get this baby weight off. Thanks!!

I'm 26 and plan on having the bypass later this year. My main reason for this surgery is because I'm ready to start a family. Is there anyone out there who had the same goal as me? If so how long afterwards, how ,how much did you weigh? Was the pregnancy a healthy one? Any advice or stories are welcome!

Hey, still over 300lbs but I might be pregnant already. Not even 3 weeks yet and haven’t tested. It’s way to early but I have signs. I am concerned I am still way to big. Any advice on early symptoms? I am cramping and am spotting. I can test by the end of the week. I am exited and nervous. So any words of wisdom and hope is much appreciated. Can’t talk to anyone about it besides baby daddy. Only you guys can truly understand. Thanks in advance. Over all my health is great just still over weight.

Im scheduled for VSG on August the 11th. I'm currently breastfeeding my 11 month old. Has anyone been in this situation? This is my third and last baby and I want to nurse him as long as possible. I was thinking I could bring a pump or hand express while I'm away just to keep my milk production. Was anyone else successful?

Hi, I’m scared as hell to share this but here I go. I’m very sensitive so please no nasty comments... I am scheduled for gastric bypass dec. 5th, my husband and I have two children already, I found out I was pregnant and am having a abortion. Nov. 11th. I’m afraid my hcg levels will not be 0 when I go in for surgery. And then not have the surgery. I’m afraid to tell my doctor but I think it is a must when I go in for my pre op with my PCP. Just in case when they do test my levels are still present. I’m very early 5weeks at most. I have not been on BC because of bloodclots with surgery so I have been watching my cycles and the last month I must have ovulated very late. Lik…

My surgeon is two hours away, so the doctor at that office is not my PCP. She told me I had to wait 2-3 years after surgery before getting pregnant because if it was any sooner, it will end in a miscarriage or severe birth defects. I think that this doctor is full of interesting "facts" on a lot of things, so I asked my PCP and Gyno about it and they both said 12 months-ish. No real worries if it happens a little before that point. So my question is, how long after surgery did you all get pregnant? Did you have any problems because of the surgery? Thanks for all your help!

Hello! I have a few questions about having a baby after the gastric sleeve. When I have my sleeve, I will be at about 225 pounds to start, with a goal weight of 150-160. If I hit that goal weight earlier than a year, say like 6 months for example, then would it be ok to start trying for a baby then? Everything I have read says that you should wait to hit your goal weight, so it wouldn’t necessarily take a year to two years for everyone?

Hello! I'm new here! I'm 30 weeks pregnant, and after taking that horrible glucose test, both 1 hr and 3 hr, they both came back abnormal. They referred me out to a high risk doctor, and said I had gestational diabetes based on my results of the 3 he test. Question??? Are these results normal for someone who had the sleeve surgery, or is it truly gestational diabetes? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hi all, I'm 2 years post bypass and currently 13 weeks pregnant. I was told that I would be monitored closely during the pregnancy due to the bypass but wanted to know if any of you had been through this and what level of care I should expect on the NHS. I've had a letter confirming my first appointment in May but that would take me past the half way point and I just assumed I would be monitored earlier. Would love to hear other experiences please. Many thanks, Claire

Hi Ladies, I was banded back in Dec 2009 and lost about 65 lbs before getting pregnant. So far I have gained 12 lbs and I was unfilled slightly from a 5.5 to a 4.5 in a 10cc band. The pregnancy has not been bad at all till about 2 weeks ago. I am experiencing pain around my port. I am so nervous that it has flipped or ripped off my abb wall! (okay a little dramatic) I hope this is normal feeling- i could just be paranoid. Please let me know if anyone else has experienced this with their pregnancy too!! The port feels like it is protruding like a baby's foot. I also want to say- i LOVE my band! I am so happy that I got it.

I am about 11 months out from my gastric bypass and plan to start trying to conceive my first child once I hit the 2 year mark. I have read mixed information about pregnancy after the surgery, so I thought I'd ask you guys for your experiences. Did you struggle with getting the nutrients you and baby needed? If so, what did you do that helped with this? Did you develop gestational diabetes? Was a c-section necessary? How big was baby at birth? Was a NICU stay necessary? Were you able to breastfeed? How much weight did you gain during pregnancy and how much of that did you lose after baby was born? Any advice for things I could do no…

Hi y'all! I had the VSG on 4/5/17 and it's been the best decision of my life. I feel like myself again. I'm still heavier than I'd like to be but I'm healthier without a doubt. My husband and I are planning to TTC but this past month we started not preventing and I'm now having some odd experiences. Wanted your thoughts or to see if anyone else has experienced this: The first day of my last period was 2/11. Predicted ovulation date was 2/26 though based on signs, I think it was a few days later. Husband and I "didn't prevent" on 3/2. For the past week, I've had dark brown discharge and then today I had what looked like thicker mucus with some darker …

Hi all, I've been on BariatricPal for a few years now, on and off. Came back looking for advice or similar stories. I had my VSG done on 7/6/17. I am currently 5w5d pregnant, I was pregnant up until 15 weeks last year and then miscarried (that was my second). My first appointment with my OB was yesterday and she referred me to a MFM for my care between the recent surgery and the 2 miscarriages she is afraid to take me on without supervision of a high risk specialist. I have some questions for you women who have already had the sleeve and had kids after the surgery. My name is Vanessa and I am 36 years old and I have always wanted to have kids but my doctors always said that is not safe to have kids because of my weight. I was 550 lbs. May 2016 and now I am 456 lbs. May 2017. I am still trying to lose more weight. In September I hope to have my sleeve surgery. I want to have a baby but I am not sure if it is safe to get pregnant right away or a couple of months after surgery or 6 to 12 months after surgery? I've tried googling this, and I don't think it knows what I mean. We all know what it feels like to be fat (not fitting in certain spaces, moving more slowly, that general uncomfortable/flabby feeling). How does this compare to 2nd-3rd trimester pregnancy? I had a pregnant friend (who's never been overweight) tell me "Oh you'll find out when you're pregnant how the extra weight affects you" and all I could remember was how I felt 70 POUNDS AGO. Not sure if we're talking apples and oranges here.

Sorry to be so blunt, but I am still in the losing phase (about 5 months out) and I was wondering what would happen adter a pregnancy. Does the sleeve stop working? Like now, i feel restriction and i have lost 76 lbs. if i get oregnant down the road am i going to go back to 245lbs and not be able to lose again? I want to start trying with my husband at the year mark but I am also very afraid i won't lose the weight or after having the baby my sleeve will somehow have stretched out and not work anymore. I've come so far! I want a baby but don't want to go back!

Hey all. Just found out I’m 4 weeks pregnant! Yayyyyyy. Had my surgery May 26, down 65 pounds. Although this will be my 5th child, it will be my first child/pregnancy since having VSG. My first pregnancy was the easiest (as in no morning sickness or other issues) and my last three were rough. Any suggestions on prenantal pills that won’t make me nauseous or gag? Hi everyone. So I recently found out I am 5 1/2 WEEKS pregnant. I am 11 months Post OP from a Bariatric Sleeve. I understand you are to wait to conceive well after a year and a half to two years however life happens lol. I am looking to start Pre Natal pills and really want to chose the best option as you know as a Bariatric patient you already lack those necessities in vitamins and nutrients. I just really want a healthy baby! Thank you all!!

So I had a gastric sleeve in September 2016 because of fertility related issues. Good news: IT WORKED. I got pregnant on the first try when my surgeon cleared me. My problem now is I am nauseous. I have been sipping on ginger tea's which help somewhat, but not a lot. I was wondering if there was anything else that you guys could suggest? My sis-in-law suggested the preggo drops but I noticed they're pure sugar, and I'd rather not. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey everyone, I’m a year out from gastric bypass (12/27/16) Me and my fiancé want to start ttc, but there’s an issue. Backstory: I’ve been obese all my life and have struggled with my periods ever since I started (around age 12-13, I’m 30 now) I have been on birth controls before (oral & depo shot) to try to regulate my period but nothing ever happened so I quit taking it. Longest period was 9 months and longest I’ve gone without it was also 9 months. I’ve been diagnosed with Menorrhagia (heavy & prolonged bleeding)I have been to numerous dr appointments and all have said that they don’t think I have PCOS but can’t rule that out but I did have Pap smears & a c…
