What did you use for birth control while you were waiting to get pregnant?

Hello all, I haven't logged onto here in about 2years. Since my WLS, I lost close to 100lbs, I felt beautiful and healthy. One goal was to get pregnant, and I did. I did not gain 1lb with my pregnancy, After I had my baby, I fit into my clothes with ease. Then post partum depression hit me..... I was put on meds and I have gained 40lbs, I don't know what to do.. I self weened from the meds because even my maternity clothes fit me tight!!!! Nothing fits me and on to a size 16-18. I am not hungry all the time like I did with them, but was wondering, the pouch test thing, would that help me get my tummy back to the size, I am so confused, I feel like I did the WLS and…

I will be having surgery in March or April. I am 33, and will have to do IVF to have children. I hate to wait the 2 years that I am seeing recommended online. Has anyone had to do IVF after you had the sleeve, and if so, how long did you wait, or have to wait? Thanks!!

Hi my name is Esther and I'm 16 months post op I'm 30 years old and I have one daughter that I had before my surgery (had no problem conceiving her lol) and we have been trying for the last 4 months to get pregnant again and nothing has happened ! I started having reg periods for the last 3 months before that my periods where insane like every two weeks ! I'm just wondering if anyone else out there is having this issue or had! Not sure where i should have posted this so maybe here? Lol Im on the Depo shots because ya know after you loose weight your more fertal. Im about to be 24 and am in no way ready for a baby. So heres my question Ive been on depo for 6 months now and my weightloss hasnt been as fast as everyone else's has been. I know i shouldnt compare but its hard. Im about to be 7 months post op and have only lost 63lbs i know it is a lot and im weighing in at 196lbs and my goal is 160lbs but for some reason I thought id be a whole lot closer to goal. I'm 7 months out and have lost 122 pounds so far and my birth control has failed me ???? I just found out this past weekend that I'm pregnant, estimating to be probably 5 weeks now. I've worked so hard to lose this weight and I'm still 60-70 pounds from where i want to be. Is it unrealistic of me to say that I dont want to gain any weight while pregnant? Ideally I want to continue to lose while I'm pregnant. My stomach is still big enough to hold a baby without me looking pregnant. If I stay on track and focus on my goal is there hope for me?

Just wanted to say it's nice to read all of the stories of women getting pregnant later in life. I am 36 years old now 37 this month and I'm having the sleeve hopefully in December. I would like to get pregnant but I was nervous based on my age and getting pregnant after surgery. I was scared that the sleeve would stop working but I just started reading some of these posts and it's making me feel alot better. I too have friends saying why have surgery now and waste it if you get pregnant. I don't know alot about that so I'm going to read these boards. I know the recommendation is 1 - 2 years post op. I was officially a year out from VSG when I found out I was 4 weeks pregnant with my third back in September and 100lbs down. My pregnancy starting weight was 155 and I'm now standing at 165 and 22 weeks pregnant. With my first pregnancy (Pre-vsg) I was around 190 and ballooned up to 235 by the end when she was born at 35 weeks due to high blood pressure and preeclampsia, I dealt with those issues throughout the whole pregnancy. With the second I was 250lbs, High blood pressure and lost the baby at 12 weeks. Ok... So I had a Paragard IUD in October. I found out yesterday that I am 6 weeks pregnant. They did an ultrasound and apparently the Paragard fell out because it is no longer in and only God knows where it's at. While this is a BIG SURPRISE (We were not planning on anymore children) I need to hear from others that have had or are having babies in a similar instance. What are some struggles you have had? Just to say upfront: We DO NOT have any intention on trying until I am at least 1 year post op... I've read that the chances of multiples go up post op...how long is this the case, and how frequently? I've struggled with PCOS ever since I was 12, so I worry that I'll be the ONE woman who will still be infertile post op...

I revised from lapband to RNY in July 2014. I ended up Preggo in October and had my son June of this year. Well I was pre-op for a tumor removal and found out I was Preggo AGAIN!! Hello everyone, I had my gastric bypass surgery in March and I just found out I'm pregnant last week. This is my first pregnancy so I am extremely nervous, excited and happy. My first question is about prenatal Vitamins. My ob/gyn prescribed prenatals for me, but I'm I supposed to take them in addition to my bariatric vitamins? I'm concerned especially with the Iron, since too much iron can be harmful to the fetus. I haven't had a Protein shake in month, because I can eat meat with no problems now. Wondering what changes you made to the "diet" foods we are supposed to eat as WLS patients now that you are pregnant. Do you still use artificial sweeteners like Splenda? Do you still use the same protein supplements? Any guidance is appreciated, NUT is booked out. Won't see her for 5 more weeks.

I got pregnant 3 months after revision from band to sleeve....we had been trying for several years and my doctor told me that I probably wouldn't be able to get pregnant until I lost about 100lbs. Hi all! I'm about 6 weeks pregnant. I'm a little over a year out from VSG surgery and lost all but 5 pounds of my excess weight!!! Before finding out I was pregnant, I was eating an average of 800 calories a day. Now, I'm STARVED. I had not been hungry once since my surgery until about a week before I found out I was pregnant (should have been my first clue!). I'm eating about 1500-1600 calories a day now (which is a struggle) per my dietician. This still doesn't seem to be curbing my appetite however. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks!

Hi everyone.so I've just found out I'm pregnant with no4. Complete surprise and not planned. So I'm now freeking out about my band. Had it fitted nearly a year ago and have lost between 4.5/5stone so far. I have 7.25mls in a 10ml band and don't have too much trouble with it. How were everyone else's pregnancies after their band? I realy don't want to have the fluid out unless I realy have to. Do I need to tell my band provider? Sorry so many questions, I'm just a bit worried.thanx

Hello! I had my gastric sleeve done on July 15 of this year and I AM NOT planning on waiting the 1-2 years to start trying again. We require fertility intervention to get pregnant (hoping not as much since I've lost 65lbs so far) but we've already started trying. My fertility doctor is one of the best in his field and has cleared me to move forward. I have one son luckily who took a year to conceive but I want more. Are there any newly thinner mommies that are moving forward with TTC dreams? Any luck so far, experiences, things that have helped?? I would love to create some connections here to support my weight loss and baby creation journeys.

I am almost a year out from my RNY bypass and I have done very well and have not had any complications. My husband and I have been talking about maybe trying to get pregnant in a couple of months. I go see my obgyn next month and I don't know what questions to ask. Does anyone have any advise/insight that has gotten pregnant after WLS?

I'm just shy of the third trimester and have found that I am starting to wind down. I'm tired and haven't been sleeping well due to this lovely insomnia. I have been researching to see if anyone else has had these problems?? Started out around 7 months pregnant.. I could cramp up and would get so bad to where I could not walk! As time has passed and I am now 34 weeks things have just got worst, it feels like my port is just so sore! I was 6 months post op when I found out I was pregnant with my first. I had an iUD at the time but it failed. Now I am 16 weeks pregnant, still down 10 pounds from when I found out I was pregnant and not showing. How long did it take others to show and what was the weight gain time line for you guys?

So the main reason for me having the sleeve was to eventually get pregnant. We just didnt expect it so soon after the surgery. We have been trying for over 2 years and had not changed anything other than me losing weight of course. Im sure my surgeon wont be happy I go see him Friday as he told me to wait at least a year. I think everyone should know different situations that could occur and since i couldnt find much on pregnancy and lapband complications i figured my story needed to be out here for others to see . I got pregnant in December 2014 and didn't find out until January 2015. We were the happiest anyone could be because I had my lapband for 2 years and was close to my goal weight. The longest I went without menstrairing was a full year and only started because my doctor put me on birth control. But I stopped because I didn't want to put a band aid on my pcos issue. Hello. I am 16 months post-op and 9 weeks pregnant. I refused to take the sugar drink that the doctors usually test you for gestational diabetes (GD) as was instructed by my surgeon. Now the doctors are having me take my blood twice a day for a week now, a week at 24 weeks and a week at 30 weeks. I have to take my blood when I am fasting for 8-10 hours and then again 2 hours after my biggest meal. I am having a problem with my sugar levels when I take my blood during the fasting part. Hello All, I'm new to the board so as a quick introduction I've been ttc with my husband for two years on our own before we did our first IUI in March 2015. It was unsuccessful, so we did a second IUI on July 23. Yesterday, my blood work confirmed that I have a "cautious positive". My nurse explained a "cautious positive" as meaning that my HCG level is raised, and that I need to come in on Monday. If the number has increased, then I need to come in again on Wednesday. Hi, I had my sleeve done Jan 30, 2014 and now I am pregnant. I was 20 pounds away from my goal weight before I found out I was pregnant . I was gaining weight at first but now I have been losing weight. It wasn't planned but I am very excited. I wish I could say everything is going ok but I can't. I am 3 months pregnant. I have taken 3 pregnancy test and they were all positive so I am going to make an appointment tomorrow with my PCP. I'm extremely nervous because I've only had my lapband for a little over a year and I am down 77 lbs. My question is if I am pregnant can I have a normal pregnancy with the lapband?

I don't know if I'm posting this in the right place but here it goes. My baby is almost a year and I plan to continue to nurse her until she self weans. I'm about 3 years post op and had a complete unfill when I found out I was pregnant. I haven't been back for a fill because breastfeeding was my priority. Now that she is going to be a year and eating more solids and drink cows milk, my question is if I get a fill now will it affect me breastfeeding or should I wait until I'm done nursing to get a fill. I am out of control. 2 years post op. My baby is 8 months old and I breastfeed on demand. I am always hungry I never felt hungry after the sleeve and before his birth.. and now all the time I can't go 2 hours without eating. And I feel like it's getting worse. Is this in my head? Has anyone else gone through this?

I'm thinking about birth control post surgery. I'd really prefer not to use hormonal BC, but I'm not sure what other option there might be, since I'm only going to TTA for one year post surgery. Any advice?
