Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery

Hi lady’s, I am 3 years post op of Gastric Banding and I’m hoping to get pregnant in the coming year or so. My questions are, I am concerned about the port positioning on my stomach. It is based only about 5cms from my belly button (positioning: to my left side and up). I have experienced pains before and torn a stitch or 2 over the years from to heavy exercise I do and I’m concerned the positioning of my port will course me, even more, grief down the line when I go to fall pregnant. I’d love to get some feedback from others as I’m considering getting either the lap band removed altogether or maybe re-positioning the port to a safer location.

Surgery 8/8/16. Im 82 lbs down. hubs and I decided to start trying for a second child since I'm at a healthier weight now and our lo is about to turn 6! It's been very busy and not a lot of time to make whoopy, but ONCE, but I'm late and JUST took and test TWO lines! I'm so nervous!!!!! I have a question. Before anyone reminds me that I am not a year post op and that I shouldn't get pregnant, I just want to give this info. I was told at my last check up that my weight loss has stabilized. I had the nexplanon birth control implant for the last eight months and I had my period the whole time. I had it removed last week. When I weighed between 220-200 my period used to be stable: I got a vsg on 1-17-17 hw294 cw228 haven’t been on bc and my periods are not regular they were regular from February until July. After the birth of my daughter I had implanon implant placed in my arm. Had it for the full 3 years they say its good for. And started ttc after it was removed. Have had no such luck whatsoever and was recently diagnosed with pcos and put on metformin and spironolactone to deal with hormonal imbalance . Hello all, so glad to find this forum. I am having the sleeve surgery in January and i'm STILL breastfeeding my 22 month old toddler. I am so worried about having the surgery because he nurses ALL DAY LONG. he is seriously hooked! SO i'm not worried about my supply really, i'm more worried about the pain of having him on me. i'm also worried about tearing and the incision site. Has anyone nursed a day after surgery? If so, i'm curious to hear how it went!! other than that i'm very excited/terrified.

So, because I know people are worried about gaining while pregnant, I thought I'd share. I got pregnant with my 4th child exactly one year after my VSG. I had lost quite a bit at that point but not to goal weight. I'd gone from a BMI of 41 to a BMI of 29. I gained 35 pounds while pregnant, but lost over 20 of that the first two weeks after the baby was born. I'm now down to within a pound of my pre pregnancy weight at 7 months postpartum. (would have been sooner but I was eating cookies when I got up to nurse during the night....sigh.) Hello. I'm in the beginning stages of my WLS journey. I've had my first consult and the doctor said after surgery he highly suggests getting on some sort of birth control. I understand fertility can be heightened, but I and my husband feel really strongly against birth control pills. Is it okay to just use condoms? And if I'm being honest, we don't have sex all that often these days. I hope this doesn't sound stupid. Thank you for your advice.

I was 4 days late since Monday. Ever since the surgery in November 2015, My app tells me that was my day and it happened. Which being overweight my whole life and being irregular was the norm, this was crazy! Anyways but here I am a regular cycle person now. So my baby will be delivered on Monday via csec due to things that don't have anything to do with my sleeve. My question is, what will they use for pain control since we can't have nsaids (ibuprofen type meds)? Usually they have you on strong meds for a week then put you on ibuprofen. Anyone have experience?

I am almost 6 weeks pregnant and a year and a half out from the sleeve surgery. Last night I started having a pulling pain it feels like scar tissue. Is this normal? It doesn’t hurt to the touch just when I move it feels like it’s pulling. Thoughts?

I had the sleeve done Jan 9, 2016. In July I found out I was pregnant... unplanned. I was a low BMI patient to start, about 31 BMI. I am 35 weeks pregnant. Up until about 28 weeks I was doing fine and baby's ultrasounds were perfect. Then at 28 weeks I did the glucose test and apparently my results were high enough I didn't even need to bother doing the longer test, I was immediately diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes. I've been able to manage my blood sugar levels almost perfectly since, and I think it was probably a blessing in disguise since I've been eating much healthier since I was diagnosed. Hello there, I'm 35, 4 years post-op, and feel so lost. I had a daughter going on two years ago, and gained 60lbs with my pregnancy. My lowest weight was 177, I started at 320. As of right now, I'm 220. Although I'm much lighter than I used to be, I feel I'm slipping back to my old ways of snacking and binge eating. I am new to being a stay at home mom, and although I try so hard to watch what I eat, my snacking, and eating the leftover of whatever my daughter isn't eating is so hard to resist. Prior to getting VSG last month, I was diagnosed as infertile 4/2016. I saw a reproductive endocrinologist who ran several tests, noting that I was still ovulating but have a diminished number of eggs due to premature ovarian failure (cause unknown.) I also have only one fallopian tube due to an ectopic pregnancy. I had regular periods, although my cycles had shortened in length as I got older (period is currently late but is first cycle after surgery.) Just found out I'm 5 wks pregnant !! We have been trying for a year now and its finaly happened. I've been banded for a year and a half now and have lost all but 35lbs of the weight I wanted to lose. I have had no morning sickness and can eat pretty normal now. I'm just curious as to when any of you had to get an unfill. I'm thrilled and terrified ! I do not want to gain weight. Going to get my first adjustment tomorrow after having my baby girl 3 months ago. Man am I nervous! I was so deep into the banded life when I got pregnant and now feel like I've forgotten everything! I have about 25 lbs to lose to get down to my pre pregnancy weight and about 80 total to goal. Hi everyone, 6 months after having gastric sleeve surgery I became pregnant. Everything was going good. At my 22 week appointment, I was told that baby was measuring 1 week behind but not to worry. They recommended I gain about 9 pounds in the second trimester and at that time I gained 8, which they said was fine. On week 23, I started to get heartburn. I guess bc she's getting higher up. I am just 10 weeks pregnant and the last 5 I have had terrible constant morning sickness and I've been throwing up. I've gone from 180 down to 174. I feel tired and awful all day. Hi, so I'm tcc and I'm noticing that I'm queasy a lot but I can't really decipher my hunger, low energy (not much), etc from the changes of the wls and pregnancy. I have 3 kids prior to wls and remember some key points that made me realize I was pregnant before a test. See after the surgery, on my menstrual days I now cramp and can feel ovulation. Mainly because of the about of weight I lost. But I want to know from moms before wls and pregnant now if you understand what I'm saying and if you knew you were pregnant before the test or atleast had a strong feeling.

I've never really posted anything before but I'm very worried. I'll try to keep it short. I was sleeved on 8/31 and was hospitalized 9 days later with a leak. My surgeon essentially freaked out, didn't know how to proceed and left me in the care of another surgeon who was able to help me heal, thank God. I was hospitalized for 2 months and had a drains for a total of 5 months before I healed. I'm considering a sleeve when my second and last baby will be 6 months old. Does anyone have words of wisdom about nursing after being sleeved? I believe my baby will be on soft foods at 6 months and this would be an ideal time for me to do something positive for myself. I'd like to continue to nurse at least twice a day at 6 months. I recently found out I'm pregnant and I'm worried I may not be getting enough vitamins. My bloods were all good except my red blood cell distribution width was slightly high. I am taking 1 prenatal vitamin and 1 DHA per day. The vitamin has 1mg of folic acid in it. Does anyone know if this is sufficient? I was worried if I took two a day I'd be getting too much of some things. My surgeon hasn't responded and my OB told me to contact him as she wasn't sure following bariatric surgery. Thanks!

1. I was sleeved March 14th. Dropped almost 40 pounds. 2. I had my period April 23th-April 27th (which was about 2 weeks later than normal) 3. Had unprotected sex with my husband on the 28th. Hello guys, So I got sleeved on July 4th, 2016 and everything went as expected. I lost about 80 pounds in 6 months, which is acceptable having had many plateaus in which I would not loose weight but my size would come down. Since January 2017 I've hit my biggest plateau yet, not losing a single pound since. To top that, I found out I'm 8 weeks pregnant now. I'm happy about the pregnancy, but the thing is I've become ravenous!!! I need to eat something every two hours or I would get severe hunger cramps and nausea. I'm 13 months post op, and just found out that I am pregnant with my 2nd child, my daughter is 3, and so its been a while a little while since I went through this. But my first pregnancy I gained like 60 lbs. Alot of it was due to me stopping work when I was 4 months. I am currently 33 Weeks pregnant and have been concerned about how my weight loss might continue after the baby is born. How have fellow Sleevers that had a baby a little over a year out from surgery got back on track with their weight loss and how difficult it was? My partner and I are both nervous that I won't be able to lose weight. Pregnancy causes weight gain no matter what, but I know I have given into craving more than I would like too. I am about 18 months Post VSG and 14 weeks preggo. The first trimester was rough! Nauseated but felt like I needed to eat a lot to not feel nauseated and toooooo tired to exercise. I've aimed about 5lbs so far eek. I'm getting energy back so I will start exercising again but what should I be eating? I try to force the Protein shakes but eating meat and "normal" food seems to be getting more difficult. As pregnancy progresses towards the end has anyone had a difficult time eating normal foods? I imagine the pressure of baby on the stomach would make you eat less? My labs showed my protein is low and my Iron is high, idk ok he heck that happened and need to do better!

Hi ladies! I was sleeved on 12/22/16 and my main reason was due to fertility issues. My husband and I had been trying to have a baby for a year and a half with no luck. I saw a fertility specialist and was tested for PCOS among other things and all came out normal but they did say it was my weight causing problems. I was on BC for 10 years (the pill where you only had a period once every 3 months), and when I came off it I went 5 months without a period. My cycles were all out of whack for a long time but the last few months prior to surgery I would have a period once every 6 weeks or so. Has anyone had any trouble breast feeding after rny?

Hello! I am looking into getting the Gastric Bypass surgery and I have some questions. I am 25, not married and with no children. I am wondering about is children. I have read that there is a higher risk for C-sections, and was curious if anyone has had children and had complications. How does pregnancy and nursing go with this surgery? I am trying to make an informed decision because I will have a LONG time to live with this. Thank you in advance for you help!

I am not looking to get pregnant for a while (maybe 2 more years) but I have always planned for a home birth. I am wondering if any one has had experience with a home birth post RNY. I know many complications can happen because people don't loose all the weight first so they have the same risk factors as just being over weight. But with that aside, has any one had this conversation with their midwife or had the experience?

Just wondering others experiences - for those that got pregnant, how much weight did you gain throughout your pregnancy? And were you able to lose it all? How quickly! Thanks!
