Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery

Pregnancy after weight loss surgery. Trying to conceive, nutrition, recovery, breastfeeding, and parenting post-op.

  1. Ok so here is my issue... I my past pregnancies I tested positive at 8 wks, didn't have symptoms up until that point. I had RNY 5 1/2 years ago, my youngest is 15 1/2 years old and I am 1 week late. I took a urine HCG test and tested negative twice now. Has anyone else had issues with testing positive when actually pregnant? Or does anyone know of anyone that had RNY that had that issue. I have had every symptom of early pregnancy to accompany the negative tests. I can't find anything online regarding post WLS and HCG testing have efects on each other. Everywhere I look it says HCG isn't affected by the surgery, although we all know that WLS play with our hormones and …

So after 4months post op and years of infertility and loss, one little "oops", and apparently plans different than mine..I'm pregnant! I'm 6 weeks and in shock still. I'm still trying to hit the gym as much as I can . My intake is suffering with morning sickness but I'm trying to keep hydrated. Any advice from post rny mamas? As happy and excited as I am I also am afraid my plan is going to be totally derailed. I want to have a healthy baby and still try to remain in course. I have like 25lbs left to my goal. I don't see me making that now. I'm not sure how this will be for me post baby. Scared my pouch will stretch, can I support a healthy pregnancy?? So many things floa…

I found out this past Wednesday (11/6) that I've had a miscarriage. Next Wednesday (11/13/13), I will have a D&C... Anyone else have a m/c with lapband? How long after m/c did you get pregnant again? This isn't my first miscarriage but we've tried for 5 yrs and finally got pg again and really having a hard time with accepting it.

Hi everyone. I'm about 7 months out. 70# gone so far (in the midst of a pretty long stall, however...) and hubby and I would like to try for a baby. I know I'm a tad early, but doctor believes I will be ok. Anyways, my question is: how many months of trying (or not trying) did it take you to get pregnant? Thanks

  5. This question is for those who have had babies after having the VSG procedure, even better yet those who have had a baby before and a baby after the VSG procedure. *What are the major differences in pregnancy before and after the VSG procedure? *Did you have weird cravings? It seems like you would not because the Ghrelin is gone. *Did you gain a lot of weight? Was it a struggle to gain the weight? *Were you nauseous? more than normal. *Were there any concerns about taking in enough food for the baby? *Anything else noteworthy? It is strange but I can't seem to fine a lot of information on this topic. I just want to make sure I am prepared... Thanks!!! :to…

I am going to get sleeved on October 30th. The main reasons being because I want to be healthy and because I have PCOS and it is hard for me to have a baby. I want to know has it become easier to get pregnant for those ladies that have lost weight? Or for the women that it was hard to get pregnant before their surgery. Just feel down I just found out 2 of my cousins are pregnant. I want a light at the end of my tunnel.

I will be 8 wks pregnant on Monday and so far I'm eating a LOT less now than before pregnancy. My Dr took out 1cc when I first found out due to m/s and not able to eat/drink. Now I am only able to eat 2-3 bites and I'm done. If I eat more, I am throwing up or miserable. I'm surprised at how little I am eating. Is this normal in the first trimester? I don't go back to see my surgeon until Nov. 11..

Hey this is my first post so forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong place. So my son is just barely 4mo and I'm sitting stagnant with my weight. I exclusively breastfeeding and find that when I eat the way my surgeon wants me to- I'm constantly eating and (feel) hungry. But getting away for the gym? Hahahahaha it's like my husband would rather me stay the way I am now (267) than lose any more (pre-op 335). I've had a crap ton of stress with this pregnancy and directly after. I also had to have an emerg c-sec. Sooo now that I've vomited my story... I need help. Tips, ideas... Anything. I want to lose more weight. My lowest with the band was the day before I found out …

I was wondering if anyone has done this before? I am wanting to still breastfeed until he is 1-2 years old. Do you think I can have the surgery and still breastfeed?

I do understand that there are a lot of emotions that come alongside getting pregnant after weight loss surgery but juat wanting to know others feeligs on the matter. How did you cope? I have lost 60lbs and am 3 months out. I look and feel great but have become so baby crazy!! I know docs say to wait but all my tests come back great, I can eat almost anything (I took a few bites of pizza because I was curious), and I'm feeling great! Idk what's your thoughts/opinions? Obviously most of you will say wait but I'd like to know the pros and cons for those of you who have gotten prego before 12 months.

I'm due in 12 days... I'm so excited to meet my little man... I have managed to make it through my entire pregnancy without gaining any weight. So ready to lose the last 30 after I have him. I'm 1 year post op and have not been able to really enjoy the weight loss since I got preggo so quickly. It was all for a good reason though... I'm so thankful for everything in my life. This surgery was def life changing in so many ways and I wouldn't change it for anything.

Hi ... I just got my band filled now that my baby is 8 months - currently at 9.0ml which is where it was before. I am not losing any weight whereas before it was dropping off me. Is it because I am breastfeeding? I know it helps burn 500 cals a day in the early days of breastfeeding but I am wondering if my body is somehow hanging on to the food/laying down fat for the milk. Anyone else had similar? (Lost 75lbs in 18 months and got pregnant and had a baby during this). 42 year old mum of 3 boys. Current weight 265lbs so plenty more to lose!

Have 5ml in my band and I have been eating okay and exercising a bit (not too much though as im breastfeeding). Starting to worry about why my body isnt losing weight. Could this mean that something is wrong with my band. I had it to tight a couple weeks ago so hand some fluid taken out and now I can eat healthy foods but im still gaining. Hello I am 31 weeks and have gained about 22 pounds. Today at the doctors, I asked how I am doing with my weight gain. The doctor (first time I am seeing this one from the medical group) said that she would tell someone with my starting weight of 240 to have gained 0 pounds throughout the entire pregnancy. I was shocked. All of the other doctors that I have seen so far, including one who has the verticals sleeve gastrecromy herself, never said that. The doctor then proceeded to give me advice on what to eat. Stay away from all dairy- milk, cheese. Stay away from all oil. Only get Protein through fish. I said I don't eat fish. I honestly don't think I could save ever gotten pregnant without losing the weight. I am going to see my band doctor on the 17th. They acted like they removed all fluids during a pregnancy. Is that normal?

I am so glad I had the surgery. Could never have gotten pregnant without it. Even though I had changed meds from one that made me gain weight to a better one, I would and did keep gaining because the zyprexa screwed up my metabolism. Started at 280 went down the first year to 180, in two months time back to 200. Stayed close to 200 for 8 years now. Allowed to put on a bit now with pregnancy. I had ect done also and am just on clozaril. And I have been non symptomatic more then 7 years now, my doctors are all standing beside me.

We found out we are having a girl! I'm currently half way through my pregnancy and ecstatic. Cannot wait to meet her! Still only about a 7lb gain. I bounce between 200 & 207. But I've had kidney stone and a dangerous bout with my blood sugar last night. I dropped to 48 anything below 65 is not good and mine was dangerously low. But I'm in good hands so I'm not too worried I've had gestational diabetes with the two previous pregnancies. So I'm handling it accordingly. The doctor will probably see me tomorrow. I'm just grateful for a healthy baby and so far a pretty good pregnancy. Sent from my EVO using VST

I weighed in at 368 lbs. My pregnancy was frought with complications, including gestational diabetes and her birth six weeks premature. She is now a thriving, happy kindergarten student, and one would never know how difficult her first few weeks of life were. Fast forward to June 2012, found out I was pregnant with baby #2. At that time, I had lost approx. 120 lbs. (If you're doing the math, I was about 250 lbs.) My pregnancy was so incredibly smooth. I did not get…
