Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery

Pregnancy after weight loss surgery. Trying to conceive, nutrition, recovery, breastfeeding, and parenting post-op.

  1. Started by clk,

I've just been far too busy to post an update, so forgive the delay. We didn't just welcome a new baby, we're also still in the midst of an overseas move and life has been both crazy and sleep deprived. We welcomed our newest daughter Elisheva (Shevi) on 21 March. She was 6 pounds, 7 ounces and 20 inches long at birth. Delivery went as planned without complications. She's absolutely adorable, and she's been a lot of fun for our whole family since her arrival. If only we weren't so busy we'd enjoy this time a bit more! Our twins are adjusting well and my daughter, in particular, hovers constantly just thrilled to be a big sister. I have mentioned many times tha…

I love this part of the forum because that was one of my biggest concerns, being able to hold a baby without eating a lot. I heard a horror story that your body will start eating your baby like it does your fat. I know ew. Now I know people do it lol. I never tried since I'm only 23 and am on mirena.

So its not 100% official (doc appt tomorrow) but my at home pregnancy test says I'm pregnant. I called my band Dr and the nurse said id have to have it taken all out but then said the ob usually wants it taken out.... I don't like that answer specially since I'm afraid of gaining wayyyy to much back. Sooo my question....how many of you had your doc leave your fills in? Did you have a choice? What are the risks of leaving it in? I'm sure I could get this from google but id rather have real answers

I won't get my surgeon's "ok" to try and get pregnant for another year and a half but things are hard to find around here, I'm curious, and plan on having at least 3 months worth of prenatal Vitamins and folic acid in my system. What vitamins did you take during pregnancy? Were you allowed vitamins/folic acid supplements that weren't chewable? I can't imagine having morning sickness and having to choke down some disgusting chewables :/ Like I said, I have PLENTY of time to learn and prepare. My fiancé and I were talking about children tonight and I just added an adorable sock monkey to my baby hopechest. Just curious what knowledge you sleeved mommies have to share …

Is anyone else here postpartum trying to shed those pesky pregnancy pounds? I'd love to get an accountability thread started so we can cheer each other on as we work our way back to goal while dealing with new babies! Getting to the gym is SO not an option for me with two five year olds that don't start school until the fall and a five week old that's just too young to be in gym daycare. I gained 32 pounds and have 9 pounds left to my pre-pregnancy weight. I'd like to lose those 9 and perhaps an extra 6 or so, but we'll see how that goes. I'd like to invite other new mommies (and even not-so-new mommies!) out of the woodwork to post how they're doing now that preg…

  9. Hello everyone My surgery was scheduled for tomarrow and I just got a call from my surgeon's office that my HCG levels were 25000 and there's a chance Iam pregnant. So I went and did the test and to my surprise it is positive! Although I am happy but I am so worried about the weight gain during pregnancy as I already am 221# and 5'2. Plus I have to do all the pre-req for the surgeries all over again next year after the baby and iam worried if the insurance will approve me then or not. Just wanted to see if anyone here ever went through this or something similar.? Oh and I was on the preop clear liquid diet for 5 days already. happy and nervous <-- thats me rig…

I am 9 wks pregnant. I have chosen to NOT have fluid removes from my band. I have had NO morning sickness and I've already gained 5 lbs. There is no legitimate reason for me to have my fluid removed. Bypass and/or sleeve patients can't "adjust" the size of their stomachs so I see no reason for me to adjust mine. My ob is supportive & we have agreed as long as baby is healthy & growing and I am able to eat and keep it down then fluid stays. If things change & I can not keep food down fluid will come out.

So... I've been a busy new mom, so I haven't been on posting as much as I'd like, but I thought I'd update everyone on how things went. Hopefully this will be encouraging to other bandsters who want to have babies! So after several years of infertility, I do believe that my weight loss from being banded helped me get pregnant, have a healthy pregnancy, and a healthy baby. I got pregnant in July of 2011 (one month after being banded!) and had a miscarriage. Then I got my a** in gear and worked with my doc to balance out my hormones; but she said that she thought I was healthy enough to go for it! I got pregnant with my daughter in January 2012. These were my fear…

I'm 27weeks pregnant and only 37weeks banded. As I enter my third trimester, I am getting very depressed and having a very hard time remembering all the progress I've made. Before getting pregnant, I lost 43lbs. Since then, I've lost an additional 22lbs. While being pregnant, I went from size 22 pants (originally 28) down to a size 18. I love being pregnant and feeling this life growing and moving inside me. HOWEVER - even though the scales don't say I've gained ANY pounds... I feel humongous. I'm almost filling out my 22s again. My baby bump doesn't look like a baby bump to me. All I see is all the weight I've lost protruding from my gut laughing at me. My husband is an …

I'm thrilled to announce (13 days later) that my band baby has arrived! She is absolutely perfect. Meagan Olivia was born 1/14/13 and was 6lbs9oz 17.75" long. She is healthy and happy and I couldn't be more thrilled! I had no problems with the band during my pregnancy at all...in fact, I had no morning sickness because of the smaller and more frequent meals I had to eat. Also did not need an unfill...thank goodness! So now I'm trying to get back on track and lose what little weight I gained during my pregnancy...7 pounds to go...plus the extra 35 to get to my goal weight. I think breastfeeding will help with that as well. God bless, bandsters!! Maggs

I'm 22 weeks along (baby boy!) we are thrilled And the baby is developing steadily... In trying HARD to be good, but I began binging again. I'm up 25 pounds after being at goal for almost 2 years. (140 pound total loss) I had to get my band completely unfilled due to that nasty norovirus. The vomiting was so intense I couldn't wait a moment longer to unfil (virtually no morning sickness, this happened at about 16 weeks) I've gained my last 13 pounds since then and I'm terrified I'm going to blow it. I need to recommit, I'm making terrible choices, all I want are inflammatory foods like cheese, chocolate, fried stuff... I could cry. I began using my bow flex 3 times a week…

My boyfriend and I have been sexually active for a little over a month now. This is the first time I've been active since I was 17 and I'm now 27. I'm not a very "experienced" person. I just recently had a fill on 4/3 and I'm already now starting to eat more. Before I was active, I wouldn't notice an increase in my eating until about a month after my fill. It's already 4/21? My weight has stalled for the past week now. I get kind of confused with the EPT home pregnancy tests where it tells you to take so many days after your missed period. I've been irreglar for as long as I can remember so I really don't know when to take it. I've tried taking the test a week before my p…

Hi! I'm 24 weeks post op and 23 weeks pregnant. Me and baby so far are doing good. But my question is: how many calories should I be consuming daily? I read online that normal pregnant woman should eat an extra 200 or more calories a day but that's based on 2000 cal. What about us sleevers? I feel like I'm struggling to get in 900 and I also read that a girl who was sleeved only ate about 800-900 and her baby was very small and born a premie. Any advice?? thanks

Is it Better to have the surgery and be healthier ( I have htn, pre diabetes, sleep apnea) which would get rid of my health concerns even though I'd be 35 when I would be allowed to get pregnant or is it better to be younger 34 with the problems I mentioned and no band til after baby #1????please help thanks

Hi, I'm 16 weeks pregnant, banded October 2011. I had an infection at the port site November 2012. Doc gave me antibiotics, thought that took care of it. January 2013 infection was back, worse. The doctor had to do an incision to drain it and apply silver nitrate. Did silver nitrate for eight weeks but to no avail! He will have to go in after I have the baby in September to completely clean out any infection that could be left is what the final decision was. I was left with a small hole of flesh over the port. Now...I just discovered that the hole has worn down to the port. So that means the port is sticking out of my skin!!!!!!!! I am horrified, mortified, scared, and …

Yay!!!! First of all I would like to say, I know the medical people prefers that patients wait a certain amount till they get pregnant but truth is I just don't really care. If it can happen that's all that matters because I believed in some point in my life that I would never be able to conceive a child. But guess what I did and I am happy. It definitely was not planned but it is a amazing blessing. My husband is super excited and that's all that matter For you ladies out there who just recently got pregnant and is still in their first trimester, how is it going so far for you guys? What were your symptoms?
