Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery

I had my son last December and was a year into my lap band down 45lbs. My son was very unexpected and I can't seem to get out of this mind set that it was a waste considering I gained 60 through my pregnancy and have only lost about 15lbs since I had him! Any words of encouragement?

Can't believe I am pregnant. Definitely wasn't planned and I'm freaking out. I am 20 pounds from my weight goal. I'm really healthy not on any medications. Going to the doctor in two weeks. My youngest son is 14. I am so worried this baby won't make it to term. I would appreciate any positive advice or stories. No negative stories please I have enough negative thoughts going in my head.

Sept 1st we welcomed our first baby and a lapband baby!! Without the band, my little sweet man would not be here! The band is the only reason that after 17 years, I was able to get pregnant. Anyone who needs encouragement, the band is worth it and with time fertility can be returned. It has been a very emotional 17 years and I am so excited that I am healthy enough to have given birth to a beautiful baby boy.

My husband and I are going to start trying to conceive in the next couple of months. I was hoping those who are pregnant or who have already had a baby after having the lapband would have any advice or comments for me? Anything you have to tell me would be so much appreciated! We're a little nervous! =)

Since I've had two previous miscarriages my doc put me on vaginal progesterone gel. So far so good but there is a serious amount of possible side effects that come with it some even for the baby!! Which has me a little nervous. Was wondering if anyone else has used this and what your experiance with it was.

Not sure what's up but I'm currently2 Weeks late. Tested this morning and I got a negative. I had my surgery at the end of may. Have had 3 cycles, first one was 33 days the other 2 were 36. So I thought cool for once my cycles are becoming normal. Well not this month. Any ideas? I have a Obgyn appointment Monday but I'd like to get some ideas first.

I've had two miscarriages in the last two years. My husband and I decided to wait until I was at a much lower weight to try again but we had an unexpected surprise when my period never came. I'm so scared and have cried my eyes out I dont think I can mentally handle another miscarriage. I know I need to stay positive but at this point all I can think is how long till this one is taken away from me . I've lost around 45 lbs since the last one I hope it helps. Doc appointment is August 28th I hope things are diffrent this time.

Since I have had a lot of trouble finding information about pregnancy with the lap band, I thought I'd share my experience on here . . . My lap band surgery was on 11/12/10, I found out I was pregnant at the end of June 2011. So, it was only about 7 months after my surgery. At the time I became pregnant, I had lost about 25 pounds and my lap band had 7.5 cc's in it. Right now, I am 33 weeks pregnant and my total weight gain has been around 8 pounds. This is my 3rd pregnancy and I'm 35 years old . . . my other children were born when I was 27 and 29. Also, I gained around 37 pounds with each pregnancy. So I have had my band almost 5 months. I am down 34 since surgery. I am pretty much at the weight I was when I delivered my son. He is now 4! I ideally would like to get under 200 before conceiving, but it is so hard trying to be patient. I feel like I am focusing too much on the future and not the present. Doesn't help that a lot of my Mom friends are having more too. On the plus side, my husband and I can at least talk about it without me ending up in tears. He likes to plan everything, whereas I just like to let things happen. Anyone else feel like they are in the same boat?

Did anyone get pregnant an still loose some weight? (doubtful at the end lol) Who all kept their fluid?

So I found out my husband was cheating on me 2 days ago and I just had surgery 8/15... We had unprotected sex a week b4 surgery and also like a week ago... Stupid I know but we haven't been able to conceive cus of my weight but the last 3-4 days I been spotting and I been throwing up... Dont know if it's cus surgery or if I'm pregnant... I hope I'm not! I should b starting my period in a week n half ... Any advice? Or ideas what it could be? I also gained 2 lbs.. And I haven't really been eating cus of stress... :-/

Hi there, I'm wondering if there is anyone on here with experience breastfeeding with your lapband. How did you calculate how many calories you needed? I have found some conflicting advice. I'll talk to my doctor too, but I was wondering what your experiences were. Thanks in advance!

I am 13 weeks pregnant and I think my band has slipped because I am having problems with solids and with fluids. I am constantly throwing up. I have no Fluid in my band. I am done with morning sickness. Just can't eat or drink anything. Has anyone experienced this while pregnant?

I have a cousin who is just as heavy as I am. We are both over 400 pounds. I have only been able to carry one pregnancy close enough to term for the baby to survive. Okay, so I had a slip up and haven't been on my nuva ring since after surgery because the antibiotics cancelled it out. I'm 5 and a half weeks post op. How is my body going to absorb this plan B pill? Do I need more than 1? I'm confused?

I am almost 4 weeks post-op and I am so scared right now I might be pregnant. A week before surgery they had me stop my birth control because it adds to the risk of blood clots after surgery. I am so frustrated. For one I have very unpredictible. For instance, my menstral came on on april 23rd, May 17th, June 12th and July 25th. So its like my menstral comes on every 24-25 days except the last one was about 43 days. I am currently taking clomid 50mg and started in May. The meds worked in May with getting me to ovulate along with the ovidrel but didn't result in a pregnancy. The meds didn't work in June because when I went in for my 13 day ultrasound. I didn't have any folicles. I'm hoping someone can relate and give me some hope. I've always had irregular periods. Some lasting 3 months and recently not having one for 2 years!!! I've been on BC since I was 13 to regulate periods and stopped 3 years ago. Jan 2011 I had pre-cancerous cells removed from my cervix. I decided to get banded as I've always been told my weight was preventing me from getting preggo. I've lost 80lbs since being banded feb 1. And still no period. I really hope this changes I would love to have at least one baby Anyone else have my bad luck???

Banded January 7th, lost 63lbs, (was 325 ish), 10 weeks pregnant ... in shock as 41 years old with kids 11 and 7 and had no others planned. Excited though!! In UK so all the medics are over reacting and treating me as high risk even though last two pregnancies were fine. CVS being done Friday. I was banded in July 2011...and was doing great until this may (2012)....i couldnt keep anything down and had a feeling that my band had slipped! Went to the doc and sure enough it was a bad slip...they took ALL my fluid out hoping it would repair it self in time. After taking the fluid out I felt great...just took it easy on my stomach! Hi, Ever since I lost my last baby, Summer Rayne, at 23 weeks pregnant back in 2004, I have been wanting another baby. I was banded on July 12 and have had the Implanon in my arm about a year now. I was told by my OB that this BC method has the least amount of estrogen than most methods. Will I have a slower weight loss? Is anyone in a similar situation?

I have been very blessed in my life in that I have never had a problem getting pregnant. I have a 5 1/2 yr old beautiful daughter and I was 35 when I had her so now I am 40 and will be 41 when I have this little baby. The difference is I have my lapband. I had it put in in 2009. I am going through the process of being approved VSG. However one of my concerns was the length of time I would have to wait until I could try for a baby. My doctor has told me two years but I've seen some of you mention a one year wait. Is anyone actively trying or succeeded? What did your doctor tell you? Just any advice would be helpful.

Hello I recently got banded and was wondering if I start birth control pills will that make me start gaining weight ?

I am currently 28 weeks pregnant and have gained 28 pounds. I had to have my band loosened due to severe nausea. I have heard that you will never find your sweet spot again and you won't lose like you did before. Anyone know if this is true and has anyone lost it all and been back to goal after having a baby? So it looks like the pregnancy really screwed up my band! I am so upset and disappointed! I guess I will know more when I go in Monday for the results of my upper GI if I have to have it repaired or if an unfill will fix it. Apparently it's way more common to have issues after pregnancy than anyone warned me about!

For the last year we have been tinkering with the idea of trying for our last! I felt i wanted the band first as i had a miscarriage 4/11 and its was due to pcos we think! I now have the band and my husband wants me to get off the depo and not try but let nature take its course. Hi all, I'm looking for support. My lap band has sprung a leak for a third time, three surgeries later, and this time, I'm pregnant. I've gained 12 lbs in the past month since the band emptied, and all my food issues are coming back, compounded by hormones/hunger. I'm determined to get through the pregnancy without blowing up. I've maintained an 80 - 100 lb loss for 6+ years despite my band breaking within the first year. I've already located a local doctor to replace my band once the baby and breastfeeding are done, but in the meantime, I'm white-knuckling being without my training wheels. Have had my lap band since November 2010. My husband and I just had a fertility procedure done on Saturday may 5th called an IUI w/ clomid. I had a very high progesterone level when they tested me last Friday it was 93! The nurse was extremely positive about it. I am just wondering if symptoms with pregnancy r any different with lap band than without?! This would be my first baby if all goes well and I think I'm just really over thinking things right now cause its so close to the time I get to take a pregnancy test.

Well Yes it is true. I am 1 month Pregnant and just had the sleeve surgery 4 months ago. I am trying to eat more but it is a hard thing to do. I am forcing myself really hard to drink and eat more. Will I gain weight or will I lose weight during pregancy? After baby can I still lose? I have not gotten to my goal weight yet. Have you heard of anyone getting pregnant that early after their surgery. This will be my first child and I am 35 years old. I wasnt very big before weighting 223 pounds and now weighting 176 pounds. I always had a normal cycle, but I guess losing the weight really helped. HELP what am I in store for???

Hi!! Good afternoon!!! We have one baby (8months). I would like to have the sleeve and I have started the process. We aren't sure if we want another baby. What has being pregnant and labor been like with your sleeve? I would love to hear!!! I do not feel worried about fetility other than needing to be very cautious. We were naturally pregnant with triplets. I miscarried the set of twins at the very end of my first trimester. Have you had a baby pre and post sleeve? Notice any differences?
