Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery

Pregnancy after weight loss surgery. Trying to conceive, nutrition, recovery, breastfeeding, and parenting post-op.

  1. So, I'm about 1.5 years post surgery, at my goal weight, and 11 weeks pregnant. The practice I use does NOT believe in taking out Fluid during pregnancy unless there's a reason. I have been throwing up a lot in early pregnancy and not gaining weight and went in to have a little bit of an unfill. I wanted to have .2 removed but the dr who saw me said I looked awful and proceeded to remove 1 cc. He promised to put back in half in a month if I felt it was necessary. Anyhow, he was totally right because I went from throwing up every day to throwing up not at all (it's 2+ weeks since the unfill). I feel much better and have gained 2 lbs which I know is what I am suppos…

  2. After sleeved lost almost 40 Kilos. My pregnancy add to my, after sleeve weight 17Kg, but i suffered major post-birth depression. My stomach gut bigger during pregnancy but almost 2 years after, i 'm still eating bigger portions. Everything has changed, HOW CAN I GO BACK TO OLD DAYS??? After pregnancy continue gaining weight, probably because of dipression and Prozac. Eating only sweets for comforting... I have to reduse my stomach capacity again. I'm feeling so sorrow for goin back to those days that food ruled my life. I'm seeing a psycologist for depression, hoping to find the real reason for my gluttony(?) HELP! P.S. Sorry for the bud spelling, i'm not using…

Its 3 months after my surgery and my husband and I are considering having another baby.. I haven't talked to the drs yet but have read that the best time is 18 months after. Truth is I don't want to wait that long for many reasons. We have 2 kids 3 and 2 and I will be 35 in July.. from everyone's experience, when is too soon? I have a regular visit with my gyn in 2 weeks and may ask to have my IUD removed...

hey all! I was diagnosed with PCOS a few years ago.... i want more than anything to have a baby and this is why i had lap band (besides getting healthy and feeling better) so anyways, i lost 104 lbs and started going to a fertility dr again a few months ago. After a round of clomid with nothing coming of it, and then 9 days of follistim and a shot of ovidril, i finally ovulated ( for the first time in my life i think) so we went home did the baby dance and now i think i am pregnant. I have been having waves of nausea, my boobs hurt when touched, mood swings, tired, headaches, white discharge. But my question is... does it sound like i am pregnant or can this still be side…

  6. Hi everyone. My honey is 2 years post op sleeve surgery. I'm currently on fertility meds and Lord willing I will be gtg in a couple of months. Late this month I have a appt set up to see her endo. Can anyone share with me what Vitamins and minerals you took to ensure a healthy pregnancy. Also want to hear from those who did not have a healthy pregnancy and what we can learn from you to avoid problems. For example, a guy told me his wife was having miscarriages and that she was low on folate/ or folic acid and told me to make sure she gets on that. I got her a low dose 400mcg and she is taking that for now until we have our consult later this month with doc. Any tips…

I will be going to my very first LapBand appt in a few weeks. I'm pretty nervous, and even though I did my research on the Band, and to actually see if I'm qualified. What other qualifications would make me qualified besides my weight that I'm some what sure that I qualify for. If someone can help me out on a few answers that would be great!

  9. Started by Leederz,

Im 9 months post op and about 10 weeks pregnant. What a shock to me considering Ive been told my whole life I would not be able to have children because of my PCOS. I got down to my goal weight of 142 and a couple days later found out Im pregnant. Im totally fine with that I know I can get back down to the weight I want eventually. My question is with proper nutrition during pregnancy. I still am eating a very small portion...I cant even finish a kids meal in 2 sittings. I stopped drinking my Protein shakes because Im afraid that they could harm the baby. Everytime I eat a couple of bites my stomache starts to hurt terribly. Has anyone else dealt with anything…

Hello everyone! I am sort of new around here. I have been on the site for about 2 years but never actually posted anything until now. I had the lapband surgery in Oct 2010 and have been very successful with it. I wrote all about it in my story on my profile, not sure if you can see it or not someone will have to tell me if you can or not. I also have an album I uploaded with pictures of before/during/after pictures but I do have that set to friends only so you will have to become a friend to access them. Anyway, I lost a total of 168 lbs after only a year and 3 months. I got down about 20 lbs less than my goal weight and was maintaining that weight very well. It wa…

So I had good success following the sleeve, lost nearly a hundred pounds. We had planned on stopping birth control this coming January but God had other plans. I had my galbladder removed and pre-op had a CT scan that showed a lesion on my liver. Since we did not know what it was, I stopped by pills because they can lead to adenomas. I then had an MRI of my Liver and found that my uterus had a malformation that could cause infertility. I had pretty much convinced myself that I going to have fertility problems and did not use back up with my husband. Well, come to find out, the week we found out about my uterus we were already pregnant!! Now, I am studying to make sure I …

  14. So over the last three months I've gained ten kilos back after losing 25 kilos since my banding three years ago. My doctor thinks I had too much fluid in my band so we have been trying to find the right balance for the past month with no success so far. This has been really depressing for me and to make matters worse now I'm pregnant and so terrified of the potential weight gain that it's overtaking my excitement of the baby coming. Can anybody relate to this or have any advice?

I am over the moon! I have PCOS, and have struggled with infertility for years. I have an almost 6 year old daughter, and tried unsuccessfully for 2 years to have another child, before having my VSG surgery. I was one year post op 8/24/12, and I just found out today that I am pregnant! This was the first month we tried since my surgery, and I was only on 50 mg a day of clomid (I have been on up to 300 mg a day in the past). I have no words for how ecstatic, and terrified, I am. Please keep me in your prayers, and I will do the same for all of you!

  19. Im fairly new to the site but so far I've read some great things that have helped me through this difficult time with my band. I was banded May 2011 and I'm down 50lbs. I suffered a minor setback here is May with my asthma flared up. I haven't had an asthma attach in 10 years but the heat and humidity got the best of me this year. At that time I believe I was very close to my sweet spot and I had 6cc in a 10cc band. I was also 11 lbs away from being out of the dreadfull 200lb range. Needless to say I was thrillled. Howver, I had to get 1cc taken out of my band as I was unable to eat, drink, and began to experience nigh-coughs and frequent PB. I'm working slowly to get bac…

During my pregnancy I gained almost 50lbs, most of that was because by my 5th month I was put in the hospital on bed rest for pre-term labor and literally could not do anything but rest until I hit full term. Now that I've had him I have lost about 16 lbs but I'm breastfeeding too. I'm currently not losing weight anymore and I am constantly hungry, I don't know if it was the pregnancy that might have caused my pouch to stretch since I had to constantly eat or what. We had a few tiny scares in the beginning, mostly due to spotting (vanishing twin, doctor thinks) but things have gone very smoothly since. Development is going great. We did get a peek at gender and it's pretty clear that we're expecting a girl. I'll be 21 weeks on Monday and I'm up 15 pounds. I'm not thrilled with my gain but I'm not surprised, either. The reality is that I've always packed on pounds while pregnant (97 pounds with my first, 78 pounds with twins) so this is actually a really low gain for me. I was also on hormones fo…

Hello all! I'm pregnant for the first time and scared to death! I've researched pregnancy and birth for as long as I researched the lap band! Shortly after finding out I was pregnant, I went to see my lapband doctor for an unfill. I was scared to death he was going to tell me he wanted to do a complete unfill, but thankfully he did not! I don't think he would have taken any out if I didn't ask for it! I decided to get 4cc out of my band (half of my fill) to give the baby room to grow and hopefully allow me to NOT need to get any more unfills during my pregnancy because my new work insurance doesn't cover my band doctor....and neither does pregnancy medcaid! My biggest question for those of you that have the band and a baby after the band, did you have a c-section or could you do vaginal delivery? Did you have port pain durring pregnancy as your body grew? How long after you started trying did it take to actually get pregnant? These are just a few questions I would really like to know about.
