Well, ladies. It is true! I had my sleeve done in June, and got the news today (officially) that I am about 6 weeks pregnant. There are lots of emotions going on right now. I am super excited, after all, I had lost about 60 lbs to date, and my husband and I had tried for years to get pregnant. We had IVF done 2 years ago because of low sperm count and it was unsuccessful. We were told it was an issue with just him (extremely low counts), so we didn't think too much about protection after surgery. We went with the motto that when God is ready, then so will we be. Honestly, I didn't think it would be this soon!!! The doctors seem to think it won't be a problem thoug…

Hello all, I just took a preggo test on Saturday and discovered I am pregnant. I noticed the last couple days that I was getting hungry a lot more. Today at work, I ate basically all day, and was still hungry. On my way home, I was so hungry I stopped at McDonalds and got a Big Mac, which I haven't been able to eat since banded in Dec of 2008. I just finished it! None of it got stuck! Granted, feel full finally, but I NEVER wanted to be able to eat a Big Mac again, no matter what! Last week I got full off 1/2 cup of food and stuff was still getting stuck! What the hell happened to my band? This food problem started yesterday, I still had restriction on Saturday,…

Hello, Hubby & I are currently trying for our first baby! We've only been working on our little project since mid-July, but I'd love to hear your words of wisdom or tips for acheiving pregnancy! I will say first of all, that while most bandsters are supposed to wait a minimum of a year/attain goal weight before getting pregnant, I have special health issues that can no longer wait. I fully support and agree with the theory of waiting, but we have been told by Gyno and Band docs that we better start a family soon, or lose the chance. So join me on my journey, and I'll keep you posted as well! I am SO EXCITED!

I love being pregnant, I really do. And I can't wait to see my baby boy! But, I'm not sure how much more of this nausea I can take. I had it up until 17 weeks. Then it tapered off until about 25 weeks. Since then it's been back full force. I've been on zofran & now phenergan. Nothing is working anymore, & it starts earlier & earlier & lasts all day long & all night. My OB seems to think my lapband has something to do with this. She is probably right, but it's having a HUGE toll on my emotional well being. I'm trying really hard to just make it through the next 7 weeks, but I just end up crying because I feel like crap. Does anyone have any advice at al…

I am so freaking out right now, I mean a new life is always precious, but I just spent a lot of money to get back to my pre-mommy weight. I am so scared I won't lose weight or that I will gain a ton of weight. I am so discouraged but trying to be positive. I know there are many people who struggle to have a baby so I don't mean to take it for granted, I just was looking forward to feeling good about myself for the first time in a long time.

Hey all, So husband and I decided to go for it and try for our 2nd. Period is due tomorrow and i do have classic symptoms of PMS / early pregnany. Yesterday i tried eating pizza and had 1/2 slice that cause tremendous amount of pain. like being stabbed in the upper stomach. I felt like my stomach was contracting and was also hard to breath a little bit. after finally getting it all out i felt some relief. But the next day (today) my stomach just doesn't feel right. i feel like i was punched and the dull achy pain that goes through to my back just wont go away. I am afriad to eat solids.. even soup! but i have to. I am pretty sure i am preggers but my question is, …

hi all. i didn't know where to turn so i came here. We found out less than 10 hours ago that my husbands SA came back with a zero sperm count...zero how can it be zero?! i am a mess. they called my phone while i was at work and i had to leave early for i could not function. i cried for three hours before my husband got home...i didn't know how i was ever going to tell him.He was diagnosed with low testosterone about four years ago and has been doing hormone replacement therapy this whole time. We have been through a lot the last three years with him also having an 'unknown' illness and we got that taken care of about six months ago and decided it was time to tt…

I finally got the nerve to take an e.p.t yesterday and was positive x 2!! I had my IUD removed Jan 24 th, my DR said "it will be 3 months or so before you get your period".....I got my period Feb 17th!!! and then nothing in March. I started having breast tenderness a couple weeks ago but didn't think much of it. I'm going this morning for testing with my Dr. As for my band, I had 1 cc removed recently due to throat burning and have managed to gain 8 lbs. I know weight gain/loss should not be a big concern right now.....however! I have been eating way to much and want at least 0.5 cc fill. I have no restriction at all.... I would like to know, how much weight have ot…

I had my band fully deflated at 2 months (as soon as I found out that I was pregnant). For a while things seemed okay, but I've had morning sickness my entire pregnancy (7 weeks 'til she's here) and it sometimes feels like it's lap band sickness. My girl loves to kick my port, and I assume that that could be what's causing the issues, but I'd like to explain a little what's happening. When I first got my band (and during the entirety of its inflation) I struggled to eat pork chops. The meat is so dry that it often got stuck in my band, causing the inevitable sickness. But like most of you probably know, being "lap band sick" is not quite the same as the whole bile…

I'm 30 and I don't plan on getting pregnant until after I graduate from my undergrad and mba program, which will be around age 34. I want multiple children, but I don't see how I'm going to be able to conceive healthfully between 34-40, unless I get pregnant every year, which I don't want. Question is, have any of you conceived multiples, and if you did, did you use any fertility meds for it?

I'm trying to figure out if I should wait to get pregnant or not. This is not really a band issue; rather, a general age/pregnancy issue. I am 33 years old, have had my band for a year, have lost 47 of my 65 pounds of EBW. I weigh 150 today and would love to weigh 132 or less, but I'm really not in a rush. My dilemma is this. I'm 33, and have not yet had children. I would like to have at least two children, and adoption is not out of the question, but I definitely have the baby rabies. Things stopping me from getting pregnant NOW: I don't live in the house I'd love to live in. If I got pregnant now, I would have an October 2011 (I'd be 34) due date, and ideally, I…

I have an 11 year old and was really ready to be done. what can i expect? is there issues with ports and crap? i carried the first in my back, literally, will that make a difference? Did I totally just screw this weight loss thing up? sorry to dump but im soooo scared! Renee

Hi there, I have been a member on this site forever and haven't logged on in awhile. My son is 18 months old, he was a band baby, I had a great pregnancy, very little problems. I gained alot in my last trimester with him, and it's stuck around. I think hormones affect my band ALOT more after baby then they used to. I haven't had a fill in over a year because I go thru periods where my band is sooooo tight as it is, yet I am still hungry often and havne't lost weight in forever. My band will be super picky for 4-6 days in a row, then fine for a week or two, then bad again. It makes eating a total chore at this point. I was around 220 lbs after I had my son, then have cr…

Hello! I am new to this group. I had my band put in November 2007. I was well over 350 and the lowest I have gotten is down to 210. I have been TTC since April 2009. I went to an RE and have been on injectibles and so I gained some weight. I am 40 yrs old and have 3 adopted children and have been TTC to have just one biological. I had a early MC in October 2010. I found out I was pregnant on a sunday and by that wednesday I was bleeding and my beta #'s were dropping. I had my band loosened immediately after finding out I was pregnant b/c I was having a hard time taking my prenatals and I was so tight I really wasn't getting any nutrition in me. Fast forward to …

Well I guess what they say is true... Loosing weight increases your fertility... In the 7 years Ive been married Ive never been on birth control and sort of relied on my PCOS. Whenever I wanted to get pregnant I'd go to a specialist and thats it... Well I wasnt planning on getting pregnant for another few months, but I guess the 55lbs I lost changed the way my body works! Anywas, so far so good, but I have no idea what to eat now... I mean, before I would eat Protein, then vegetables, and rarely/sometimes carbs. But wouldnt a baby need a more rounded diet? or should I just stick to what Im suposed to be eating? I really dont want to gain all the weight back. I u…

I had my surgery in April of '09 and have gotten down to 149 pounds (which according to my doctor, because of my frame and muscle mass, 150 was supposed to be rock bottom). Anyway, my husband and I had no problem conceiving our first child (he was quite a surprise actually!) yet we've been trying since September for our second with no such luck yet. I'm trying to be patient, but don't want our kids too far apart in age either, you know? We've been tracking ovulation and while I have an atypical cycle (25 days with an 11 or 12 day luteal phase) I didn't think we would have any problems. I won't know for certain until Monday, but I have a feeling this month won't be it ei…

Hey, I have been having trouble trying to conceive since 2008. I tried provera and clomid, since my cycles are so out of whack. No luck. I am just in a holding pattern now, waiting to get the surgery so I can lose the weight enough to get pregnant. I end up having my periods lasting anywhere from 1-4+ months of consistent bleeding. I have been considering asking my doctor for the birth control pill to see if it will regulate it better, but I would also like to see my body regulate it self as I lose. I really try not to think of pregnancy anymore since all I do is get sad or stressed. But I am positive that after the surgery, I will feel hope again. I'm sure I'm no…

I have a few questions. I'm just asking for opinions and gathering information right now. My Mirena recently decided to fall out after just a few months, and it got my husband and I talking about kids again. I'm only six months out from surgery. Right now I don't know that it's the best timing, but I also don't know that there's anything wrong with the timing, either. Those that know they're going to try to conceive (TTC) or are already doing it: Did you wait to get to goal before starting? I'm just curious here. I had a perfectly healthy twin pregnancy that started when I was 210 pounds, so I'm not concerned that my current weight will negatively impact my abil…

Hi everyone, need a little help here. I am currently 8 weeks and 4 days pregnant. I have been suffering with SEVERE nausea (but not vomitting) since I was 5 + 6 - its not just in the morning, its ALL day long. On top of that, nothing sounds good, I have no appetite, and I've lost 3 lbs. I often find myself feeling full, and after not eating hardly anything all day, I start eating and I'm full really quickly. I'm having trouble establishing if this is band related, or related to my "morning sickness" I'm not having trouble getting foods past my band...not getting stuck or PBing or anything...any thoughts?

2 Case reports of birth defect associated with deficiency in bariatric surgery patients The January 2010 issue of SOARD reports on 2 cases of birth defect that appear to have resulted from severe maternal Vitamin deficiency after malabsorptive bariatric surgery. The first case was of a baby born at 33 weeks to a 27 year old mother 16 months post-op from a biliopancreatic diversion (BPD). The mother was deficient in vitamin A, D, K, Protein, selenium and zinc. The infant was delivered prematurely with multiple defects including bone malformation, cleft palate, facial hypoplasia, and respiratory insufficiency. …

I'm currently 32+ weeks, and for a few weeks now I've been having intermittent port site pain that almost knocks me down. It's almost as if the area is being stretched too tight and maybe scar tissue or adhesions are pulling? Has anyone else experienced this during the last trimester? It is so painful it's hard to walk, but as soon as I sit down the pain is gone. I've never had a unfill and I'm still restricted. No issues really with the band (although it's felt a tiny bit tighter lately), just that darn port! :smile2:

Women who are getting ready to try to conceive begin taking prenatals (or at least they should a few months in advance), right? So my question is: should I just add a prenatal to my regular Vitamin routine *now* to prepare for in a few months when we are TTC? Or should I just double my multi? Is it possible to have TOO much folic acid? My multi already has 400mcg and the prenatals have 800mcg....and this is the same for other Vitamins that are found in both. Should I be concerned with over-doing it with any of the vitamins? For those of you are have already gone through pregnancy as a post-op, how did your vitamin regimen change and for those of you preparing t…

I am now 6 weeks post op. On Friday I was feeling extremely weak, nauseous, and I couldn't stop vomiting. When I arrived to the ER the immediately determined that I was dehydrated. They hooked me up to IV and tested my urine. After testing my urine the nurse returned and informed me that my pregnancy test was positive. About an hour later I was sent in for a sonogram. The tech that conducted the sonogram stated that I was 7 weeks and 5 days pregnant!!!! She said that I had became pregnant possibly 2-3 days before the surgery was performed. I remained in the hospital until Sunday for further observation so the surgeon could determine if the illness was from the surgery or …

I am now 28 weeks pregnant and have the strangest symptom. I have a strong hiccup -yes a hiccup :w00t: (much more often after I eat) I get it every 1/2 hour or so and out of no where. It's been about a week now and coming more often that it's annoying. I get it all hours of the night and day. I had a .5cc taken out when I was 8 weeks and seem to be fine. I'm wondering if I need to take a little more out. Has this happened to anyone. I called my doc's office but they're gone for the day. Thanks for any feedback!

I am 9 weeks pregnant and have the band. I have not had any morning sickness and thought it was due to the band that was preventing it. I see I am wrong. I have my band pretty tight but, I don't find any problems eating and keeping healthy. I crush my prenatal pills and take them mixed in water. I have lost a total of 9lbs since I found out I was pregnant 3 weeks ago, but I have again no morning sickness. Anyone else experienced this?

Oct. 2008 4cc band placed (243lbs), after 5 small fills a total of 1.5cc in my band I had very little restriction. Having 2 kids it was hard to keep going for more fills so I tried to just keep eating healthy. After losing a slow 30 pounds then gaining about 10 of it back, I found out I was pregnant with my sweet baby girl in May (now 223lbs)! I didn't have too much restriction I could eat any food with no problems (example steak was an ease) so I'm guessing that's why I was able to go through pregnancy without an unfill. I was teeny bit more restricted while pregnant but not enough to really notice, I still think it really helped. Luckily, I didn't have morning sic…

I have a question about birth control! My DH and I haven't used it since February 2006. I have PCOS and I don't have a period unless it's induced or if I'm on fertility meds. I was discussing birth control options with DH for after surgery, but he said he doesn't care what we use or if we use anything. I think after 5 years of seriously TTC baby#3, he feels like we just aren't ever going to get pg and I can't say I blame him, I feel the same way. BUT, I know that with all the estrogen that will dump out of all the fat I'll be losing, we could end up pg....a long shot, but still a possibility. So, what would you do? Not worry about it? Worry about it?? BCP are not…

Hello, Im new to this site and have been looking around. I was very excited when I found the pregnancy thread. I had my surgery in Feb of this year. To date I've lost a total of 153lbs. During this journey I've noticed a marked increase in my sex drive. Recently, I've noticed some strange changes in me. My period was a little late and was extremely short for me; only part of one day. My back has been killing me, I don't seem to do anything but cry and now I can't eat without throwing up. Im very tired and Im not the only one who has noticed the changes. My boyfriend made a comment yesterday too. So, my question to you guys is this...does having the lapband increa…

Hi, Ladies, I just found out last week that I''m pregnant, and that puts me at 6 weeks. I have been wearing a compression garment (ok, just call it a girdle already!) since about 50 lbs down from my original weight. That was about the time that my extra skin and flabbiness started to annoy me with its jiggling, and also cause excess sweatiness/rashes from the rubbing. I don't go out of the house without one on! I'm still 100 lbs down from my original weight, and I know it will be some time before my baby belly really starts to "pop", especially since this is my first. So, can I keep wearing my girdles for now? When should I give it up?

I seriously doubt this is related to my pregnancy, but you never know, and it's one of the only "what has changed?" things I can think of. Please let me know if you're having similar. For the last 10 or so days, I've noticed my hair, mostly within a few inches of the roots, at the top of my head only, is really - sticky, for lack of a better word. Like I conditioned and forgot to rinse it out, or put way too much gel in or something. I've changed every variable I can think of including Water source, shampoo, comb, towels, etc. I've tried clarifying shampoos, stripping rinses, I've tried multiple shampoo scrub sessions in case something got in my hair (this morning …

Hi, I would love to talk to a few people (either via email, phone or in person) who are banded and who are pregnant or have been pregnant while banded. Please reply to this thread or send me a private message if you wouldn't mind talking with me about your experience. I'm curious specifically about: * The ease of getting pregant while banded * The ability to get enough nutrition for the baby while banded * Labor with the band. Is it more difficult? Can you have a normal C section delivery when you're banded? * How the port reacts when pregnant. Does the port cause problems as your stomach grows larger when you're pregnant? I'm looking into having the surgery and …

Not really sure how to ask this, so I'll just blurt it out. I am 5 months out from being banded and cannot bear anyone elses weight on top of me. My port is sensitive. Has this been an issue for anyone else? Im not sure it will ever NOT be too sensitive. I also find myself automatically being very protective of the port area...which doesnt go over very well as you might imagine. And I miss that particular closeness. Thanks for any response! ~hiddn

Hello everyone, I am writing this post because I need support from women going through the same thing as me right now. This is my story, I was banded in June of 2010, so just 6 months ago. I am down 60lbs and still have 80lbs to go WOOT WOOT!!! 4 months ago I had to have my Mirena (birth control) taken out do to it embedding into my cervics and causing sever infections. My doctor advised me not to go back onto birth control right away, he wanted my system to be able to calm down and in 3 months I would start a new birth control. My husband and I have been using condoms, and guess what I got pregnant we must have fallen into that 1% catagory. This will be our f…

I am not banded yet and i am not pregnant, I have read a ton of the post on here about people getting concerned about gaining weight during pregnancy. I understand that we all have issues with weight gain but you are supposed to gain weight when you are preggers. it's healthy. a ton of weight gain is not healthy but a little is fine. like i said i understand that everyone on this site for the most part has issues with weight gain, my question is why don't people understand that it's normal an healthy for pregnancy, and stop beating yourselfs up over it? I know this might sound come across as rude but its not i promise i am just curious.

DH and I are trying to conceive, and we've only been trying for about 2 months. My cycles have been regular since I got off birth control back in September. I checked an ovulation calendar and paid attention to mucus. We used Pre Seed this month just to see if it would help. I ovulated Thursday/Friday. I am having some cramping and pain in my lower abdomen, slightly towards the right. And my lower back has been achey. In your opinion, am I looking too much into these things? I have never had cramping after ovulation like this and I don't have lower back problems. On a funny note, DH looked at me the other night and said "Do you feel any different? Maybe like you'…

has anyone gone through pregnancy being banded and going to a midwife? are they ok with having the band? i've lost about 40lb since AUG and am NOT looking forward to gaining any weight. I lost 35 through morning sickness with dd but gained it all back and then some after about 6 months. can having the band help keep weight gain to an absolute minimum or do they want you to gain like everyone else? i don't even want to step on a scale anymore.

Hello! I'm Katie, have been banded just over a year, and am currently trying to conceive. I've been off the pill since May and have a feeling this may be the month, but in the meantime I have some questions. My surgeon is in another city and I have to fly to go see him. I am currently at 8.5cc in a 10cc band. I am feeling good and definately hit my sweet spot with this fill which I've had for a few months. My surgeon knows I'm trying to conceive and recommends we do a half un-fill once I am preggo. Now to my question: how did you all deal with morning sickness and general nausea? Did you have any special medication to help aleviate it? I ask because excessive vomiting …

Me and my new husband on 2 1/2 year have been trying to conceive since my tubal reversal in March 2008. No luck. Fertility specialist finds nothing wrong with either of EXCEPT my weight of 282 lbs. She tells me all of the complications that can go wrong at that weight and being preggers. Well, depression and guilt left me at 323 lbs. Finally I decided to have LAP-BAND®® surgery. I've just had my 4th of 7 visits with my surgeon. Only 3 more visits before insurance will approve me. Wish me luck. Down 22 lbs so far with will power and the help of the monthly support groups my surgeon has. Long and short of it. I will be having my band in December and will start IUIs in Jan-F…
