So my story is just starting and my approval process went pretty quickly (in my opinion). Saw my primary doctor in Mid-March and she referred me to Bariatrics, pending that I passed a psychiatric evaluation and saw the nutritionist. The only criteria my insurance has is that I meet the BMI criteria and do those two other things. I saw those two doctors by late March and also went to a meeting that the surgeon had discussing the different methods. I was convinced I would be doing lap band until recently. I did a lot more research and weighed the pros and cons of all three surgeries (success rates, complications, etc.) and decided on the sleeve. I met for an individual consult with my surgeon on April 30th (that was honestly the longest waiting I had to do ). Now my surgery is scheduled for May 23rd, 2013! So excited to start this new chapter in my life. One week after graduation from graduate school. (So it wont let me start a new paragraph on here ugh) ........................................................................................................................... So I have struggled with weight since puberty, first I was overweight, then obese and now morbidly obese. The most frustrating part is that for the past 3 years I have been at the gym or working out at home 6 days per week and been eating a relatively healthy diet (usually around 1200 calories) and NOTHING. The only thing keeping me exercising and not giving up is the fact that if I don't exercise, I gain weight.................................................................................... Over the years I have grown to love my body and accept that I am a pleasantly plump woman. I have great self esteem so this surgery is mainly for health reasons. However, this gets me to one of my largest concerns, developing self esteem issues post surgery. While I believe everyone is beautiful, I also know everyone has their types, and if I were attracted to women, I would not be attracted to thin women, so I am very worried. I am also worried that my fiancé, who fell in love with the woman I am now, would no longer be attracted to me post weight loss. He is behind me 100% and says he will always love me. This is what I am struggling most with now.
