Somebody on here posted about fatsecret.com but I couldn't find the original post. After checking it out I switched from fitday.com yesterday. Fatsecret has all our WLS foods, brand name diet foods, and Protein powders/drinks in their database, so I don't have to enter customized foods. Anyway, it has everything fitday has, plus a function where you can add buddies and see each other's food logs. If anybody wants to be my buddy on there, look me up: Donna4545 Cheers!

Go to Blackberry's "App World" and search "Calorie Counter". It's free and it syncs with your fatsecret.com food tracker. Great for travel. I just switched over from fitday.com because you don't have to enter a bunch of custom foods--stuff like Isopure is already in there, and lots of brands.

For 5 weeks I was perfect and did everything by the book. Now that I'm back at work, I'm finding it hard to do everything right (I do get fluids) and I'm HUNGRY! Help! I'm relying on protein drinks too much (too tired to cook after work), I'm not exercising (because I need to get to work in the morning). I'm having a hard time getting my butt into gear. I even had one really bad day when I had 1,200 calories. (averaging 800 otherwise though). I seem to have lost my motivation and I don't know where to find it!

Hi all, I said I would post my blood test results and here they are. The background is I have been eating a high Protein low carb diet for more than a year now. I eat on average 2 eggs a day, and plenty of white and red meat, and regular fruit and green vegetables. On the DailyPlate I set my cholesterol reading red every day when I log my food! So here we go:- Total serum cholesterol 4.2 mmol/L (should be less than 5) HDL cholesterol (the good variety) 1.7 mmol/L (should be greater than 1 mmol/L) LDL cholesterol (the bad variety) 2.2 mmol/L (should be less than 3 mmol/L) Triglycerides 0.7mmol/L (should be less than 1.7mmol/L) So although according to the received …

I am five weeks post surgery now, and enjoy eating easy-to-chew foods. I focus on eating high Protein foods such as cottage cheese, egg beaters with low-fat cheese, turkey bacon (not crispy), tuna, deli chicken and turkey, tilapia, grilled chicken strips, and white chicken chili. One day I cooked one pound of low-fat hamburger with onions and two cans of baked Beans. That gave me eight 6 oz. meals. I am looking for more high protein recipes that I can cook up on my days off. I don't want to get bored with my current selections and be tempted back into unhealthy foods. So, if any of you know of websites or cookbooks, or if you have your own favorite recipes, please s…

I went to Amazon, and there's so many. I probably have all of the food addiction symptoms possible (head hunger, emotional hunger, overeating, etc). The LAST thing I want is to finish surgery and gain weight again because I didn't resolve the mental issues. Out of the 30+ books available, which do you recommend for: - Learning why this happens - Implementing a plan to fix I'm going to counseling as well for any underlying problems that might have led to it. thanks!

Those who have been sleeved for a while, I was wondering if there are any common foods that aren't as easily eaten as others. I had the Lap Band previously and when it functioned correctly anything that expanded was out. I know bread isn't always the best idea but I love toast every now and then.

I am using a new food tracker, fatsecret.com, and as I input my foods throughout the day it tells me what percentage of my daily total of 600 cals worth of food is coming from fat-carbs-protein. I am ridiculously low carb, less than 10 a day, but that's just because the carbs on offer here are all superbad - fried and white flour. It's my fats percentage that is upsetting me, I haven't even had dinner yet today and my fat grams are at 35!! I'm well under on total calories, low on carb, but thus far 55% of my food today has been fat, 37% protein, and 8% carbs. I'm distressed because I'm not eating fatty foods - plain tuna, boiled eggs, lean ham, hard parmesan. Is …

So I know that eating bread is difficult for a while. That being said, how long usually until a VSG'r can have pizza again? Will I at least be able to eat the toppings any time soon? I am one week out. Of all the foods I thought I'd miss, I didn't think pizza and toast with butter would be at the top of my list. AniO

I have a question for sleevers. What do you eat for breakfast? I've returned back to work, which means I have to eat something quick but I'm getting sick of a scrambled egg every morning. I have never been a breakfast person! So this is new territory for me. Please let me know how you handle breakfast in the morning. Especially, what you do for a quick morning meal. Thanks so much!

Hi, all. Hope I'm not posting something that was previously posted, but I don't remember seeing it. Just visited the BMI calculator at the National Institutes of Health and found these quizzes on portions 20 years ago and today for common foods (e.g., bagel, spaghetti and meatballs). You have to guess calories in today's portions and time needed to burn off through exercise. It was really interesting. Apologies if already posted in a thread. NHLBI-Portion Distortion Quiz

I was on my pre-op diet for two weeks which consisted of unlimited sugar free popsicles and Jello, broth, and one 8 oz. glass of skim milk, a low carb/cal. yogurt and 60 grams of Protein shakes. My one week post-op diet was the same minus the milk and yogurt. Today is the day I'm suppose to be able to eat cottage cheese, string cheese, tuna.etc.... for one meal, then go back to drinking Water and Protein Shakes for the rest of the day. Well..... I don't have any HUNGER!!!!! Nothing sounds good to me and the smell of food kinda makes me nauseous. I don't want to eat. I know I should, but? :confused1:ANYONE ELSE FEEL THIS WAY? Deb

I've found that I do quite well as steady losing if I eat between 1000-1200 calories a day and keep my carbs below 50. So? What's the problem? I have found myself getting lax as I am approaching goal. Not necessarily eating things that are "bad" for me, but taking in a bit more calories than I should in the losing stage. An extra drink here, a bite of this there. Almost to the point of grazing which I don't want to start as a habit!!!! I'm not gaining and some days I lose, but overall, weightloss is flat. Now, pre-sleeve, I would never have believed that I would chatise myself for 1500 calories. But, I want to get off these final pounds. (My ticker say…

Protein, protein. I am a carnivore ending 5 weeks and after I get my protein in I've maxed on calories and being full for the day. I'm having cravings for green beans, peas, beans, corn on the cob, salads. I'm getting obsessed and feeling deprived. Today I had one scrambled egg, a piece of deli ham, a protein shake, 4oz lean sirloin, and 4oz hamburger patty. Total about 820 calories. Any advice?

A few days ago, just after my fifth week post-op, I suddenly wanted food. All this time I couldn't care less about food, really and truly, even if it was what should have been a trigger food. Then a few days ago, bam, I WANT FOOD. I want it - I want salt and fat and sugar and carbs and I want to shove it in my face. I haven't thank goodness, I feel bad enough about my daily 2TBSP of PB, but I'm shocked and a little afraid by this intense "head" and "taste bud" hunger. What is going on? :001_tongue: I have an intense high stress job and I literally live at work, recently yes, there have been some things that have upset me and increased my unhappiness with work. …

Hello all, Have any of you tried PowerCrunch Protein bars? I had to get on here and ask, or suggest to those who have not, to definetely seek them out if you haven't. I have only tried 2 of their flavor options, but they were both delicious! I have not seen them in stores, rather I bought mine from my surgeons nutrition store. However, I did find there website (www.bnrg.com). The two that I have had are Peanut Butter Fudge, and Peanut Butter Creme but there are others that I hope to try soon too. The Peanut Butter Fudge one has 13 gr protein, 5 gr sugar, 10 gr carbs, 12 gr fat, and 200 calories. If you have ever had a 'nutty buddy' snack, it to me taste very …

I was just wondering how people are managing to cook for the rest of the family when you've been sleeved? I am 3 and a half weeks out, and as a stay at home mum/wife do all the cooking. I find that when I've finished cooking I'm already full, just with trying and tasting in what i think are tiny proportions. I used to taste loads while cooking and then eat with the family, I guess that's one of the reasons I put on so much weight! Any thoughts, advice or experiences with this???

So as I'm struggling to get enough protein on the clear liquids phase, I remembered an old article in a bodybuilding magazine that mentioned that one can use pasteurized egg whites as a source of protein to mix with other drinks. I just tried 1/4 cup of them with 1/2 cup juice and I can't tell the difference in taste or texture, but I'm getting 7 g of protein with my drink! You should be able to buy a carton at any major grocery store (just confirm they are pasteurized, so you can have them straight out of the carton).

I just want to say here, for anyone who hasn't tried it, that Oikos yogurt, made by Stonyfield, is delicious. It has 10 grams of protein and comes in caramel, chocolate and vanilla flavors as well as plain. I like the plain with vegies and the caramel is outrageously good. It's a great way to get your protein in.

So I am about to be sleeved and I am thinking ahead to my full liquids phase; I have some unflavored protein powder to add to my broths and I want to know - what is the rule on cream soups? I have decided to have the sleeve. I am self pay so I am saving money right now and looking at a February surgery date in Mexico. My worry is that my eating junk food will sabotage my diet!! I usually only eat one big meal during the day which is usually dinner. Sometimes I don't even eat that. So my problem is that I eat small snacks ALL day long. Its anything from cookies to ice cream to chips. I eat them in small amounts but when I'm eating every 30 minutes it adds up to ALOT of calories. Will the sleeve cause me to stop this or will I still be able to? Also I do not like the "stuffed" feeling that someone people describe loving so much so I won't eat if it makes …

I am starting my 5th week post-op. Last night I peeled an orange and "ate" it. That is to say, I chewed and sucked all the juice out of each section before spitting out the fiberous pulp. It just felt wonderful to put something fresh in my mouth but I was worried about whether my stomach can handle the pulp. So what is the verdict on seedless fruits and veggies? I know we are supposed to reserve room for protein but if I hit my protein quota for the day, can I have a bite of apple - no skin - chewed to mush? Melon? A seeded peeled slice of cucumber, also chewed to puree? Pickles? steamed stir-fry vegetables with a trickle of soy sauce? I'm just getting tapped out on tuna…

This is the wierdest feeling - I haven't had any carbs since surgery except for what might be in the broths, soups, etc. But no "stand-alone" carbs. Today I had a tablespoon of peanut butter, about half an hour ago, and the only way to describe how I feel right now is - drunk. I can barely keep my eyes open, feel a little loopy, and maybe like I might throw up. I won't throw up but I sorta feel spinny. WTF? Is it a shock to my system because it's so rich, so carby? No digestive pains, no esophagus pains just, drunk!

Hey guys, I don't know why in my constellation of questions prior to surgery I never thought to ask this one but my Mom thought of it now that I'm moving on to soft solids. Since we are so protein-centric and since many if not most of us get that from animal sources, what is cholesterol like for sleevers? Pre-op O had fine "good" cholesterol and slightly high "bad" cholesterol. Do sleevers have a problem with cholesterol long term?

I love tuna, crab and shrimp, but lately I have heard several people saying that too muchseafood is not good for you because of the high levels of mercury. I found a website called HowMuchFish.com where you can pick your seafood and there is a calculator that tells you what your risk from mercury is - I smiled when I saw that mine would be over 5.4 lbs of tuna/week. I tried to paste it in here, hope it works. [/url] canned albacore tuna ? reset If your mom called fish ?brain food,? she was right. But how much do you know about the nutrients in your favorite seafood? And is naturally occurring mercury really a concern? What about for pregnant women? T…

Thought I posted this last night but now I cant find it. I thought a thread on low-fat turkey products might be usefull, so I will start. Hi all I am having trouble staying at around(mostly under) I am a month and a few days out and am mostly back to normal food. I have been trying to concentrate on Protein, but have had trouble staying under 800 calories. I start off with a coffee with some creamer and sweet and low, around 90 calories, then maybe have two scrambled eggs(200 calories) For lunch I do maybe a taco(around 220), or a couple three hot dogs plain(390). If I do maybe a pudding mid afternoon, I am up to around 700 calories before I eat dinner. I like chicken well enough, hate fish. So, trying to find some low calorie/low carb protein alternatives. Suggestions? Thanks, Lisa

My puree stage allows refried beans, which sounds great, but all I can think of is carbs, carbs, carbs. Same with mashed potatoes and chili. I don't want to stall, but I am truly tired of full liquids and it's time to move on to purees. Should I avoid these carby, but "allowed" things? Did anyone stall at the puree stage from increased carbs?

I was just wondering, if it is considered a soft/mushy food. I mean mashed potatoes are considered soft/mushy why not potato dumplings? I know it is way high carbs, but during the mushy/soft stage it may be another thing I can turn to that is not tuna or mashed pot. Thoughts?

I went to my local Vonn's (Randall's) and discovered in their Soup section (the one by the deli/sandwich/bread shop). A Red Curry with chicken Soup. It has the Thai Curry taste. I put it all in the blender and watered it down with some fat free milk (I'm still on full liquids). It was great....it is high calorie 1 cup = 240 cal, but I can't eat a cup at a time and it's a great treat when thinking I need THAI!

Oh the difference that semi-normal food makes! Juicy, spicy radishes with salt and lime juice Crispy cucumber Walla Walla Sweet onions Fresh, tender baby spinach (raw) Ripe sun-warm tomatoes, grown in my own garden Unbelievably nutty, smooth ripe avocado ...and then combining all that into a salad, with grilled, marinated chicken breast over the top. Fresh-snapped green beans; asparagus, raw or steamed; broccoli; cauliflower; kohlrabi; turnips; zucchini...mushrooms. I'm such a mushroom addict. That's the kind of stuff I'm looking forward to eating again. I've found that I've missed that the most of all, being on the liquid diet.

Has anyone heard of bento boxes? They are the traditional Japanese boxed lunch. They are teeny tiny and arranging them can be an art form. I haven't been sleeved yet but am trying to think of ways to make my mental transition afterwards as smooth as possible. That's when I thought of bentos - they are Protein focused (we can take out the rice), tiny, and visually stimulating. Plus, for us, they wouldn't be tiny, they would be just right! We could eat an entire lunch, lol! So here's a link to a site. I think I'm going to look forward to spending time and care on my food, I've spent too long just throwing everything down my gullet. =) Just Bento | a healthy meal i…
