Hi all, we are having a family Christmas on the 26th, but I wanted to have something "nice" on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for me and the hubby but somehow I can't come up with anything. Roast, turkey, goose etc. are all way too much for the 2 of us and with only one eating really :-) Who has some festive ideas for Christmas dinners? Happy Holidays Susanne

Hello all, I am 2 months from having my surgery and so confused on the Protein. I have seen those Protein Drink shots. Would they be good to help get the protein in? I have received some of the shake packets. I was shocked at how much powder is in one serving. I was wondering if there was anthing you all are using that I could just add to my Water. Thanks in advance for the advice!

I just have a few questions about foods that I can and cannot eat right now and what is normal after surgery. I was sleeved on December 2nd and have really been craving some sweets. Im not much of a coffee drinker but I love hot chocolate. Is it ok to drink as long as it sugar free? Also I am having a very hard time getting protein down and have tried lots of different shakes and powders and even tried adding the unflavored powder to foods and still have a hard time getting it down. I have had several problems since the procedure one of which I have been throwing up and have felt like I have the flu. It is starting to go away now but when I wake up in the morning I always…

Hello fellow sleevers & sleevers-to-be! Based on recommendations here at VSG Talk and a few other online sites, I ordered powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Chcolate Splendor Protein powder and received it in the mail this week. I put off having it until today. I only had one other chcolate flavored Protein Drink before -- Muscle Milk chocolate (already premixed in the bottle) and it was horrible -- so I was a little apprehensive about trying the Unjury. I put soy milk, a little crushed ice, and the unjury in my Magic Bullet (bought for the occasion of being sleeved, sinc…

So I am on my pre op diet. My surgery is on Monday! But, I was REALLY craving hot chocolate. It's EXTREMELY cold outside. But, since I'm really not allowed to have hot chocolate... or do I have any Reduced Sugar kind to even try to sneak it I improvised! I warmed up some milk.... and put in my Carnation Instant Start (Sugar Free) that I'm allowed to have! And, YUM! Tastes JUST like hot chocolate.

Ok VSG family, I have bought and am exploring some cookbooks for WLS patients. Some actually have some great recipes but I am not sure if I will be able to handle some of those foods eventually. I was curious to know if any of you sleevers who are 6 months or more out might answer this question. Can you eat any of the following foods?: salad stuff such as lettuce, green onions, cucumbers, tomatoes? fresh fruit such as grapes, berries, etc.? sandwich? bread for toast? tortillias? rice? Would appreciate to know if anyone can eat these things or is this one of those trial and error experiments? Thanks!

Ok...I was sleeved Dec 1st and just graduated to mushies.....Yippee. I seem to be doing okay in getting in protein but I am having difficulty in getting the recommend fluids in daily. My goal is 64 protein and 64 fluids. I work four days a week 8 am to 7 pm as customer service rep answering phones. I know we shouldn't drink 30 or so before or after meals. I try to keep a water bottle to sip but answering back to back calls, it is hard to get it done. Any suggestions?

Just wanted to share a new food find I found. Revival Baked Soy Protein Chips. They are kind like a potato chip with the consistency of a cracker. They come in a variety of flavors such as Rev-It-Up Ranch, Lightly Salted Sunshine, Roasted Garlic & Herbs Goodness, Salsa Sass, Sea Salt & Vinegar Voyage Sour Cream & Onion Dream, Oh My! Apple Pie!, Jalapeno & Cheddar Cha! Cha! and Honey Mustard Heaven. They have 70 % less fat than potato chips & fewer carbs. One bag has 110 calories and 7 gms of protein. They are actually not too bad. I ordered them online from bariatriceating.com

I know that I should be patient but it's hard to think that I went through all of this and I'm not losing weight! I know my body needs time to heal but I really wonder if I'm doing something wrong?? FYI I am 3 1/2 weeks post-op! I noticed just last night how many carbs milk has! I didn't know that and maybe that is my problem? I've just been CRAVING MILK SO BAD!! What are your thoughts on bringing home the salad from a restaurant meal? I had a yummy caesar salad last night, only took like 3 bites and left it because I thought it would be too soggy to eat the next day. Now I'm day-dreaming over how good that salad was LOL. I guess if the salad doesn't have dressing on it, it would probably be okay.

Hello, I was converted from band to sleeve on 10/25. I see from time to time people posting what they eat in a day...I find it very helpful. Ok, I LOVE nuts, seeds and Beans. However, I do know they can pack a bit of a punch whereas carbs are concerned. I have decided that from until New Year's Day I'm going to go SUPER LOW carbs. I'm only allowing myself the Hi Fiber Quaker oatmeal, Fiber One Bars (Once a Day only - and Only one choice.) and cheese & green veggies. These will be my only carbohydrate exceptions. NOTHING ELSE!!! I'm doing this because I am super scared of Thanksgiving and Christmas and every single day in between. This is the time of year where people actually create songs about sugar and plums dancing in our heads... it's just the way it is. I can't do this though, I'm really…

I met with the NUT today and she is happy with how far I have come!! Only thing she wants from me is more Protein which I know I need to work on! I bought some more powder today so I can make some new shakes! She did tell me that I could progress a little quicker if my body feels up to it! She said I can start soft/mushy foods and not so much of just a blended/pureed foods. She really feels its all up to me and how I am feeling! I started eggs (egg whites scrambled) this week and they have been just fine plus the pureed chili I've been doing. So I think I'll still wait until at least the weekend and I might try some oatmeal or potatos! I'm still not going to push …

I've been reading and reading about anything and everything concerning the sleeve and when it comes to diet it seems that most of you are using low fat items. I know low fat = much higher sugar/carbs content. It's the only way they can make it tasty after removing the fats. In terms of post surgery diet - is high sugar considered a little more acceptable than high fat? Everyone seems to be watching carbs so I'm surprised that they will go fat free. Please chime in with your thoughts on this and what your nutritionist recommends. I'd really appreciate it!

I bought it at GNC and the guy didn't know what to do with it either,,,can anyone give me ideas. i just want to add it into something but he said it would change the consistency, but i thought i could just sprinkle it in my food or soup or something like that, cause i already drink EAS Myoplex and like that as a protien drink.... thanks, vicki

I am two weeks post op and I returned to work to a long list of must attend business dinners for the holiday season. One of the places is a brazilian steakhouse, and if you have ever been to one of those you know they serve up to 9 different meats(lamb chops, steak, chicken, pork, baby backs) with every meal. The other is Benihanas which is my favorite unfortunately. Does anyone have suggestions as to how to order at these places without drawing attention and questions to how I am eating? I will be on solids at that point but I am still seriously worried?

I've been reading as much as I can here and I appreciate the sharing of information so much! I'm scared and I want to educate myself as much as possible before having this surgery. I keep reading about the WLS diet consisting of broth and Ramen noodles and such. This seems to be a staple of the post surgery diet and most of these things contain MSG. Not all, you can find products that are free of additives. Trust me, there ARE healthier products out there. It may take some work to find them but they're out there. The less ingredients, the better! I'm not trying to preach or ruin your day by telling you that things you love are bad but I'm sure many people don't r…

I'm fourteen days out from being sleeved......my question how to handle Thursday? My mom and sisters know I've been sleeved but we are going over my aunts house for dinner and she is easily insulted if you do not try her different dishes. I think I'm going to fake the flu and stay home because I have two cousins that I do not want to know I had WLS both have had the RNY and have gained all of their weight back and then some. Does anyone have suggestions on how I can handle my family? They are going to ask questions if I do not eat my favorite pumkin pie.............or should I stick to my fake sick plan...lol:rolleyes: Thanks for any suggestions

I too love BBQ, but I consider it one of my "trigger" foods. By trigger I mean I just want to eat and eat it if I it is around. A couple other foods for me like that is Tuna salad, egg salad, choc pudding and especially SO good BBQ oh and spaghetti. So I try to avoid having them all in the house or making them. My question is does anyone else have this problem too? If so how has the sleeve helped you or not helped you or does that all go to the wayside afterward as there just is not room for too much of your trigger foods?

I'm just starting out mushies and picked up a few "Cottage Doubles" which is cottage cheese w/ a fruit topping (I don't eat the big chunks). Since practically everything I read is all about "no sugar" I'm wondering if I should be avoiding these. Calories: 130 Saturated Fat: 1.5g Total Carb: 17g Sugars: 15g Protein: 11g The above stats are for the strawberry flavor. I ate 1/2 of it for lunch and finished up the other half for dinner. Can anyone provide feedback on that carb/sugar count? My NUT didn't give me any guidelines other than "if you eat anything w/ carbs, make sure it has a good amount of Protein in it." In addition, pretty much all my food sug…

I'll make this quick & to the point. I have bee HORRIBLE. the best of intentions...but having such a difficult time keeping food down. All of the things my nutritionist suggested (eggs, ground turkey, chili, tuna salad)...ALL of it comes right back up. I was able to get some herbed potatoes and collard greens down ONCE last week, but that was hit or miss. In my Quest for FOOD (vs only being able to down Protein shakes), I tried a slice of SPAM *hangs head in shame* with NO adverse reactions...so ate another (after my earlier attempt of chili w/lean ground beef went the way of the toilet...QUICKLY). My desire for a drink made with real sugar is great. Something delicious, like an icy cold Mexican coke. I want it like a junkie wants ... whatever it is a junkie wants. Really NO drink has made me happy since the surgery. Occasionally, I get a glass of unsweetened iced tea (with Splenda) that hits the spot momentarily, but after a few drinks, I hate it, too. Sigh. A real Dr. Pepper or Mr. Pibb. Lemonade with sugar. Heck, even Kool-Aid would be good. But I won't give in. I won't.

I have a question- I was originally scheduled to have the RNY done, but decided to have the VSG after reading that the procedure could be performed as a stand-alone surgery. I am now 6 days out from my surgery and my doctor did not give me any info since he hasn’t done to many, so I have some questions for to ask before my next appointment. How much does the sleeve hold, such as ounces, and is there anything else I need to know or look out for? I am in phase II, the creamed phase such as the RNY requires, but does the VSG need to strain the mushrooms out of the Soup, or bits of chicken out of the cream of chicken like the RNY, because I read VSG don’t have the blockage is…

Does anyone in here drink Coconut Water ? I've become addicted to Vita Coco and I think it's a good thing since it's a fraction of the calories of soda etc.. and only has 5 carb and 0 fat per 330 ml can and it's all natural. I'm hoping to get the VSG done I'd like to continue drinking this once I do.

I am currently on my pre-op diet with 800-900 calories a day. One would think that's bad in and of itself but in addition they also took my caffeine. I am wondering what the problem with caffeine is? I admit, I have cheated and I had a very small cup of coffee in the morning, just to silence the blazing headache that I woke up with and to be able to be productive at work to finish up everything before I leave for 2 weeks. My plan was to stop today and have Saturday, Sunday, Monday without caffeine and that should work. Now, can I cheat with the caffeine? Why is caffeine so bad before surgery? This is a nice no-calorie-treat for me. In addition, I was wondering if I cou…

I started the liquid diet about a month ago when I was going to get the lapband, about a week into it I found out about the gastric sleeve and decided to have that instead so the liquid diet was put on hold until the VGS procedure could get worked out. Anyway, yesterday I started the two week pre-surgery liquid Protein diet and I am having a really hard time drinking the shakes this time. Serious nausea! I stopped by GNC to pick up some Isopure by Nature works (or something like that) hoping that maybe not having to swallow the thick Protein shake would be helpful. Anyway, those aren't too bad with a ton of ice! But they also had some prtein shakes that they recommende…

I always keep my food logged at sparkpeople.com and am noticing that I'm not getting much fiber at all. I'm on a 1000 calorie a day diet with 2 protein shakes and one meal consisting of a lean protein and vegetable. Last night, I had the Bird's Eye Normandy Blend with a sirloin steak. The veggie mix had broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, squash and zucchini. I still only ended up with 2 grams of fiber. The previous day had 3 grams. I'm sorry this is TMI, but I'm starting to notice the lack of fiber in the bathroom. I was wondering if we are supposed to avoid fiber, or should I be taking a fiber supplement? I have not seen my nutritionist yet, but I want to nip this b…

I completely forgot that I had received protein bars from my bariatric center. I was able to start eating them this week and I wont lie, they're pretty tasty. The company is called Proti but I haven't yet checked to see if they have a website. The bars have 15g of protein and I think 4g of sugar, and I would assume they come in different flavors. I have the chocolate caramel nut bars. Good source of protein for those of you that, like me, can't stomach the protein shakes.

* Stevia - Very healthy! Can also be used for baking. Comes in a powder or a liquid (I like the liquid better but it's easy to put too much). It's an herb so the taste (and aftertaste take a little getting used to). A company called Stevia Leaf (I think) makes liquid flavored Stevia sweeteners in all sorts of flavors. * Lo Han or Liu Han (inulin) Feeds good bacteria in intestines (very expensive!) * Yacon – Peruvian Tuber (FOS) Syrup - Amazing therapeutic properties. The body is not able to break it down as sugar and it passes through and then promotes the good bacteria in the intestines. Tastes like a cross between honey and molasses – a good, inexpensive brand …
