Just on a lark I picked up a can of Canned Tamales to see how many calories were in a serving and I was pleasantly surprised. Only 140 calories in a serving which is 2 tamales and it filled me up just fine. A dollop of low fat sour cream and I was totally in heaven. Satisfied my Mexican food craving! (a bit high in carbs and not much in the way of Protein, but sooo good)

So, I am about 4 weeks out and am eating "normal" foods. So far, so good. I was wondering about fruit juices, though. I wanted to eat some pineapple today, but wasn't sure if the sugar content would hurt me in any way. So, I decided to just get some canned pineapple and drain the juice, use 3 ice cubes, pour juice in, blend, and make a smoothie/ice type drink. Is this a dumb idea?

We're going to fly to Mexico in a couple of weeks. I will be about 6 weeks post-op. Unless things change quickly, I will not be able to get my required Protein by food alone. What's the most compact way to carry protein to another country, realizing that there might be a lot of trouble getting it back into the USA? Those shot things can have a lot of protein, but they sure are nasty. I'm thinking of just taking a half bag of Meal Replacement powder. What do you think?

Thanks (cross posted in post op questions- to try and get more answers).

I don't know how the sleeve will work, but I hope I don't have trouble getting in my protein like I do with the band. Right now, I can't get most meats through my band.

Is it just to avoid the calories in the regular products? Okay, my experience. I had a bout with a nasty kidney stone years ago that my body did not want to pass. Hubby took me ER because I kept vomiting the pain pills and I was "dying" of PAIN!! I was then being admitted by my pcp for pain and nausea medication and tests. I'm on the exceedingly-low-carb, high-Protein pre-pre-op diet, and I have run up against something that I'm frankly confused about. My surgeon told me to cut out milk, but cheese is okay, as is low-fat cottage cheese. I've always gotten skim milk, and had never actually looked at the labels on the soy milk that's available out there, and I'm trying to figure out what's superior about soy milk over skim milk. The only difference I can see is that typically there are about 2 carbs fewer per 8-oz serving of soy milk versus skim milk, but the protein content is about the same, and the…

I have been practically living on this forum reading everything I can and it has been so helpful. I see that post op, the intake is so small, and even am reading that from people who are a few months out from surgery. My question is, do you ever get to a point where you can eat a regular meal again? Or is it forever just a few bites and then you are done? I think I am subconsciously starting to mourn the loss of food after eating so much over the years. That being said, I am willing to give it all up if that is what it takes to help me get healthy again. …

Then I go to eat, have just a very little and know I am done but it doesn't stay with me very long at all. Is that about how it goes this far out? Does your hunger go away right after surgery if it is going to or later? Thanks for your input Diane

My body right now does not like cheese or eggs, so my options for protein from food sources has been cut in half practically. If I track gross calories, I lose weight like gangbusters, but I feel like crap if I do almost ANY exercise. It's like 800 calories is the bare minimum my body wants to live on.
