  1. I am attempting to purchase alot of the Protein products to stock up before surgery (March 13). Can anyone tell me if you liked your protein powders during pre-op, did you taste buds change post op finding that you could no longer tolerate the protein after surgery? After much, much, much reading, I am beginning to rethink my plans in purchasing so many products prior to surgery. I am just wondering did anyone find that their taste significantly changed? Any Help if much appreciated.. PS. I just love this board and the new sleeve family since joining. :thumbup1:

Hi All, Thanks for answering all my questions. I am arranging the pantry and I keep finding things that I wonder if they are legal or not. I have 3 jars of PB 2 and would love to add it to Protein shakes. If you haven't heard of it, PB 2 is a lower fat peanut powder that you can add to stuff or use to make Peanut Butter. Would it be sleeve friendly? Thanks for your input! Pennie

I am almost at 3 weeks out and I am drinking fat free skim milk with SF carnation instant breakfast added to it. I just started trying to keep a log of my intake so I started using My Plate. I was shocked to see that each cup (14 protein) also added up to 20 grams of sugar!!! Now my sugar intake is actually higher than my protein. I am confused at to whether or not this is healthy and why it was recommended in the first place. Anyone else run into this issue?I do not see the doc or nutritionist until the 19th!

Post Date: 1/22/10 7:26 pm I wrote this to another board earlier, but I think it might be good for me to start posting here, where it is all VSGers, rather than a cross-section of bariatric surgery patients. About me: I had a vertical sleeve gastrectomy on Nov 24, 2009, in Mexico. I weighed myself when I started on the pre-op diet: 310. 300 on the day of the surgery. Am now, on Jan.22 at 270 (more or less... the scale goes up and down a little, and at the gym they had me up SIX POUNDS, but I can't think that is true... oh god, please don't let it be true....). Now, when I think about it, that is about 40 lbs. in 2 months, which is pretty darned good. However,…

I made my favorite venison chili this evening, and thought I would share how much I can eat and what it actually looks like. It takes me about 20 minutes to eat this amount of chili. 1 cup of chili w/ 2 tbsp. shredded cheese and 3 saltine crackers. These little bowls are fabulous. They measure 2 cups evenly. They came in a set of bowls in various sizes made by Reynolds. They are to-go bowls found near the Gladware stuff in most retail stores. I am not a big juice drinker, but occasionally I really enjoy a few ounces. Today, while perusing the commissary aisles I found Old Orchard Healthy Balance Apple Cranberry Juice. It's sweetened with Splenda, and it's really tasty. They have several different flavors. I picked up some of their Grape juice variety for Caysen. He said it was yummy as well. fruit juice fans out there. I read a bunch of labels on some of the "diet/light" varieties, and they all had added sugar and higher carb counts.

I get a lot of questions about "what do you eat?" Instead of trying to explain portion size, or what exactly I eat, I figure pictures work a little better. Tonight's menu: T-Bone (approx. 1 inch thick after grilling over charcoal) steak with A1 thick & hearty sauce (I ate all but 2 bites of the steak) Green Giant Veggie Medley (new potatoes, snap peas I don't eat the shells, and red peppers) Steamed with herb sauce (I only ate 2 of the smaller potatoes pictured). As you can see, even at 7 months out, I still off a salad plate. I feel 100% satisfied. The steak was cooked about medium, and I was able to chew it normally. It took me about 35 minutes to eat to…

3+ months post op and once again I am having trouble eating! I don't wake up hungry at all but manage to get in about 4oz of cream of wheat, I add protein powder to it. After that I'm basically full for the day and NOTHING appeals to me. I've lost my taste for all sweets even fruit. I don't know if it's because I just starting taking a new antidepressant drug Zoloft? I am really depressed and the lack of appeal for food has me worried. Any insights are appreciated.

Well for New Year's Day breakfast, I made pancakes for the family. I haven't done that in a really long time (July). Anyway, I received a sample of Wonderslim Protein HotCakes and thought I would give them a try - a treat for me. I made them as directed with water and added 1/2 serving of diced "no sugar added" peaches and served with SF pancake syrup. Yummers! Now, I think too many carbs for a daily breakfast, but a nice substitute as a treat. (one package makes 2-3 pancakes - 120 cal, carb 19g, sugars 2g, fiber 5g, protein 12g). FYI - I couldn't eat them all - I only ate 2/3 of it and am now STUFFED. Uggghh!

GNC has a number of different vials of liquid protein that are either 42 or 45 grams each. I think this would allow me to get my protein until I am able to eat fish and actual meats again. My thought is that as long as I get the protein in, who cares how...LOL!

Since a lot of people, pre-op and post-op, ask about alcohol consumption, I thought I'd throw out my experience. Last night, we attended John's squadron Christmas party. I wanted to try a glass of wine. They had a decent assortment, and I chose a Kendall Jackson Reisling. I drank about 1/2 the glass before our meal while socializing, zero issues, no burning, pain, or discomfort. Then, ate, 3 bites of prime rib, 3 bites of the stuffed chicken, about 4oz of mashed potatoes with gravy, and 3 or 4 broccoli florets. After dinner, I had a few sips of coffee, then finished the glass of wine. I also took 3 small bites of cheesecake, and John ate the rest. Everything …

Tonight I had mash from Kentucky, but three teaspoons full and this was followed by the worst burning sensasion I have ever felt. It felt like my stomach was on fire. I manage to stop the sensation by sipping on tea (took about 60 min) At a meeting this weekend I picked up a crisp from the treats table, thought I would see what it does, and no problem what so ever - I did not even feel any discomfort.
