I have found the holy grail of Greek Yogurt. Okay, well at least I think it's fabulous. Chobani Non-Fat Greek yogurt with fruit on the bottom. It tastes just like any of the Yoplait/Dannon yogurts that I've had in the past. It's smooth, creamy, and not bitter. Here's a coupon code for a Buy 2 Get 1 Free Chobani Coupon. strawberry and pineapple. I found these at our Publix grocery store on sale 10 for $10. It's a little high on the carb count, but I'm assuming it's from the fruit.

Hi all. I'm eating "real" foods now, which is SO nice. Haven't had many problems, though at times I have a hard time determining when I will get that "UGH" full feeling, which can be very debilitating (temporarily) if I get over-full. I have to keep telling myself this is a learning process. In that spirit, I'm wondering if anyone has tried to utilize beef or turkey Jerky as a good source of Protein? I only ask because my brother was eating some last week, and I thought "high protein! try it!" ... so I did. Chewed it really well, and had NO problems. One individual packet, which is WAY too much for me, is less than 150 calories, 1.5 grams of fat, and 20 grams of pr…

Alright, so I can't/won't give up my coffee in the morning. It's a power cup of java with powdered creamer and three packets of Splenda. It's a large mug of which I drink about half. Two questions; how bad is it really and, I drink it right after I take my Nexium. I think the Nexium part is more my concern - that the coffee might be washing away the benefits of the Nexium which is the last thing I need... Anyone else a coffee sinner? Just how bad is it? I know the docs all say it's the worst thing in the world but that is their job, no? Thanks guys, I know I can always come here for "in the trenches" advice... :001_smile: Carol

I was on a vegan diet for a few months last year and really liked it. I know most of you sleevers are low-carbing it, but I wonder whether anybody has tried vegetarian/vegan eating with the sleeve? Have any of you discussed it with your doctor? I plan to talk to my surgeon about it but would love to hear from you about it, too. Thanks!

I love both and was eating SF Popsicles with wild abandon when one day I noticed there are 4 carbs in each SF Popsicle and 11 in each SF Fudgicle. Sounds insiginificant, however, when you eat 4 SF Pops a day the carbs add up. I have been losing, but it was in very small increments here and there and a lot of intermittent stalling was taking place. I have limited my SF popsicles to one a day and swoosh the scale is moving daily now.... The only reason I never noticed the carb count is because the tear strip on the box went right through the nutrition label. I told myself, "oh there aren't any carbs in SF pops, everyone is living on them during the liquid stage", well …

I am a confirmed fish hater but cooked and ate halibut today. It was delicious. I used foil, put down 2 slices of lemon, the piece of fish, a teaspoon of butter and a teaspoon of capers. Sealed leaving a small open space at the top. Then grilled on medium for 5 minutes, opened the foil all the way and cooked another 3 minutes. We got the frozen halibut at costco last week. I was able to eat 1.5 ounces. 1 ounce or less of chicken made me barf. I'm thrilled I found something that goes down easy and stays down.

Went to the Arnold Schwarzenegger Sports Expo yesterday and found a new protein that is awesome. They are called protein crisps and are basically the little rice crispies that are in the protein bars. They are very low carb, high protein and easy to eat. They come in regular or chocolate and you can eat them plain, add them to your yogurt or pudding or even cook/bake with them. They have great reviews and I actually liked them alot. If your interested, their website is Whey Crisps - WheyCrisps.com. Hope this helps!!!

I was advised to eat 2oz of Protein at each meal. When I first started, this was a bite or two too much, so I would deduct a bit from that portion. Now, I've been eating a consistent 2oz. While I won't say it's really like hunger (at least pre-surgery hunger), I don't seem to stay full as long as just a week ago. I even contemplated having a non-planned snack. To be honest, that scared the crap out of me. Here I am a little over a month out & I'm thinking of snacking?!??!!?!? My plan says I should be eating 4-6oz a meal now. 6oz sounds like a full banquet, but I was wondering if I should go to 3oz??? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Anyone have …

Hello Madam, Anyone else, please feel free to chime in. My question is; once you start on soft food and then on to a regular diet, how in the world did you manage to stay below 30 carbs per day? Can you give a few examples of what your days consisted of, food-wise? I like to think I'm pretty good with watching carbs but man, below 30 is tough! I'm managing between 40-50, which isn't too bad, but I want to keep steady loss continuing and avoid any more stalls if possible. This transition phase is trickier than I expected too; going from sip, sip, sipping alllllll day long to several hours per day total around meals is tricky. Also, I find I want to lightly graze…

I will be traveling to the rural England when I am about 2 months out of surgery. All they ever eat is bacon sandwiches with butter, (can you believe they put butter on this. No mayo in that country, especially not lite mayo) Fried fish and Chips, and Roast Beef (Not a healthy lean kind) Please, does anyone have any ideas here? Can any of you veterans handle fish at 2 months out maybe with the coating removed? I am afraid I will be malnourished by the time 1 month of this food is complete.

Hello! So I am sheduled for my surgery on March 12th with Dr. Jose Rodriguez. For some reason...I'm NOT nervous...YET. I went absolutley nutty on my last "anything goes" food-wise day. Here's my confession: I had Starbucks Cinnmon Dolce Latte and a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich for breakfast, Dunkin Donuts later with a apple fritter for a snack, McDonalds BIG MAC with fries and a Coke for lunch, and then had a Dragon Roll, Panang Curry, and a glass of wine for dinner out with my friends for my "Last Supper". THEN when I got home I made my husband pick up some chocolate cake and me and my BFF and him sat and ate that with MORE wine. (Unbuttoning my pants)...GEEZ!!!…

This recipe is perfect for the mushy, and soft solids stage minus the tortilla. I don't use the milk, or butter that this recipe calls for. My adjustments are listed below. chicken Enchiladas II - All recipes Okay, so I tweak every recipe I find to fit our dietary needs and family tastes. The nutrition facts for this recipe listed are unbelievably HIGH calorie, high carb, high fat so, I changed things up quite a bit. Also, I cheat and use the crock pot. 2 cans of cream of chicken Soup (98% reduced fat) I've also used one can of cream of mushroom, 1 can of cream of chicken, I always use the 98% reduced fat this cuts the fat, calories and carbs substa…

This is the tastiest thing I've had since surgery. I'm in the full liquid stage and am simply sick of broth, popsicles, and cream of chicken Soup... Here's what my hubbie made me: 1 can Cream of Potato Soup 2 T shredded cheese (didn't use lowfat, because this whole recipe fed me 12 times - LOL) 1 can's worth enriched non-fat milk 1/2 tsp smoke flavoring Cook everything together and put through a strainer to make sure there aren't any lumps. Tastes like a yummy cheesy potato soup with bacon! If you're on full liquids still - give it a try - I really enjoyed it!

Thank you 'THISISIT' for posting about Siggis Yogurt. IT IS OUT OF THIS WORLD GOOD! It is icelandic traditional yogurt. From the website: It is made by incubating skim milk with live active cultures. The whey, the Water naturally found in milk, is then strained away to make for a much thicker, creamier, concentrated yogurt. So to make just one cup of skyr, with all that water going out, you need 3 - 4 times the amount of milk required to make a regular cup of yogurt. As a result of this process skyr comes out with 2-3 times the Protein count of standard yogurt. Here is the caloric info- low carbs, and TONS of PROTEIN!!! IN…

Okay, so the kiddo had a friend over today. They wanted grilled cheese, and chips with dip for lunch. So, mommy Tiff goes into creative mode. I did this while they were outside and let it set up in the fridge for about an hour before we tried it. 2 cups of Fage non-fat greek yogurt 1/2 cup of fresh diced sweet red pepper 1-1.5 tsp of ground cumin 1 cup of black Beans drained and rinsed well 1-1.5 cup of low fat shredded cheese (I used this mexican cheese) 1 Tbsp of diced green chilis (canned) 1 tsp of garlic/pepper salt 1/2 tsp of your favorite season salt 1 tsp of dry fajita seasoning LOVE IT ! ! ! I can't seem to find this answer anywhere, probably because it's a strange question. I have been drinking regular skim milk with my Protein shakes and drinking skim milk with no problems since the surgery. I wanted to drink some milk and we ran out of skim milk so I went downstairs to the local mini-mart and picked up some Korean low-fat milk. I usually buy my skim milk on the US military base because I have always liked skim milk and the low-fat milk off base is 1% or 2%. I had a bad reaction to it. My boyfriend is lactose intolerant so it was pretty much the same symptoms. The milk wasn't bad because a friend had some with no problem. Do you think it is possib…

Some of the research I have done into the VSG says you should leave 15 mins between drinking and eating, and then not drink for some time afterwards. How difficult was it for your post op peeps to stick to this no liquid thing? I have managed to re-educate myself to drink some Water before my meals to ensure I don't eat as much.... and nearly always have water with a meal. I'm worried that if I do go ahead with the sleeve that this might be my weakest point! :confused1:

The scale went up this week and I'm kicking myself for it! I have been eating bad, terrible, awful things and I haven't been exercising because of the crud that won't go away. Just wanted to vent and ask what you all do to get back on track if you have a bad week? Also, I need to start cooking healthier at night. I just try to focus on Protein for me, but my hubby hasn't lost any weight since my surgery because of my cooking. I'd be fine eating some deli meat and a few crackers, but I mostly cook for him. Has anyone drastically changed their cooking habits for their family members?

I have been reading quite a lot, and see many posts on vitamins, protein powders and the like, but haven?t really come across much on how much people actually spend on them. Can anyone give me an idea on how much they spent on these things for the first year, and then longer term? I?ve read the Duodenal Switch Forum (DS) on obesityhelp (OH), and they seem to average somewhere around $100.00 a month. Some spend a lot more, and a few seem to get by on $30.00 a month. I know they tend to have to take a lot more than sleevers due to the malabsorbtion.

Ok, so here's the deal. I am taking a Chinese language class and as Chinese New Year begins on Sunday, we decided to go to Des Moines (about 45 mins away) to have some good Chinese food. Our class is small: me, my roommate, a bossy lady that works at the college, and our visiting professor from China. Not sure why we are going to a buffet (that's what bossy lady decided) since I'm pretty sure most buffets in Iowa aren't exactly authentic & if we were just going to go to a buffet we could stay in town........... But whatever. So we will be going to a Chinese buffet in the next week or so. Obviously I won't be able to eat much though I am now on solids. My dietitian rec…

Hi, hope I'm not reposting this. I searched the forum but didn't find anything. So, here is my dilemma: I LOVE LOVE LOVE the World According to Eggface. I haven't made any yet as I want to make sure I'm far enough along before I try anything with a lot of ingredients. :crying: However, she does not include nutrition data for her recipes since, depending on how you make the recipe (substitutions, etc.), the data would obviously differ. This is kind of mind blowing so I'm hoping that someone here has some knowledge or insight on the subject. I've been for a very long while a bit of a "health nut" though obese, still very interested in eating foods that are as organic as possible, no chemical sweeteners, etc. I have had (pre-op) a fantastic all purpose seasoning from soy Protein that is non-GMO, gluten-free and preservative free. It's sort of tastes like a soy sauce and can be added to Soups, any meat, fish, chicken, lentils, just even put into a salad dressing, or mixed into a glass of tomato or vegetable juice. When I was raising my grandson, he loved to use it for his California rolls and sushi. I…

My BMI is under 40, and I am on my 2 week pre-op liquid diet. Which frankly, I suck at but stuck to UNTIL NOW. I've made it almost to the end and I went out to dinner with family and ate a heavy mid day meal (pasta). That was on Saturday and my surgery is on Tuesday. I am back on liquids today and wondering how much I have to confess to doctor. It would have been about 52 hours before my surgery. I realllly don't want to postpone surgery but wonder does it make anything more dangerous. I'll be soooo strict now. I just went nuts I guess.

I am a month out and curious as to what things I can start eating after the mushie stage? My doctor didn't give me any info on that. I have read some things about some people not eating salads for 3-6 months...why is that? Same thing with raw vegetables. I just want to know what things are a go and what things are a definate no no, and the reasons why. If you all can help me out I would appreciate it, because I'm ready to eat...lol!!! I'm scared to take any chances though. Thanks all.

Hey ya'll ~ :001_smile: I had the vertical sleeve in 2008. I have lost 60lbs, but gained 10 of them back. I know that my eating habits have gone down hill for the most part even though I tend to eat right more than i use to, but I find myself thinking the same thing when I eat. The thing that I am thinking is "I better eat this or I know it's going in the trash". I hate to throw away feed even more now since I am an adult and know better. With all the hours I put in to buy grocery, plus, more importantly, all the people around the world starving. I guess my question is are you finding yourself wanting to eat it all rather than put it in the trash? i try to salvage…

So, today I had my "two week" check-up (a few days early since I go back to college on Sunday), and the surgeon & dietitian said I'm doing great! I realized once I got home and started using my "Personal Food & Fitness Journal" (which is nice because I can keep track of my diet & exercise in one place! :biggrin0:)...I kept track of what I've been eating. With 2 protein shakes a day and BEFORE dinner, I'm eating 390 cals, 4g fat, and 42.4 carbs. Also, strangely, 42.4g of protein so far today. I'm slowly but surely getting to 64 oz of fluid a day, but my main concern is the carbs. I know we're supposed to stay as low carb as possible while losing, but I was wond…

I saw a nutritionist for the first visit last week at the suggestion of my internist. She was shocked about the 600-800 calorie, 70 gm Protein, 30-60 gram carb recommendation for the first 6 months post VSG. She advised me on starting a training program with free weights, and cardio exercises, along with increasing intake to 1200 calories with more balanced version of the diet. Here's my problem: I'm losing weight following my surgeon's recommendations, and do not want to mess with what is working for me. But I do agree that exercise is beneficial, however I could probably not sustain a moderately intense exercise program with the small amount of food, mostly prote…

I was sleeved Dec 14, 2009. The first five weeks seemed very normal, I tracked calories, carbs and Proteins just for knowledge. I was averaging 800-900 calories a day, 40 carbs, 80-90 gms Protein. 8 glasses of Water, no problem. Last Saturday, I abruptly lost my appetite. It's not that food makes me sick, it's just that I have no hunger for it. I'm a decent cook, but 2 tablespoons of anything is more than enough. Most days this week I've ended up with less than 500 calories and only 32-40 oz water. Protein intake has slipped into the 50's and carbs are safely in the 30's. I'm working on a Protein Drink now because it's 8 pm and I only had 400 calories in today with 34…

Hello all! So I'm only 3 1/2 weeks out right now, but one of the organizations I'm involved with here at college is planning to sponsor a chili cookoff in the next couple weeks! I should be 5- 5 1/2 weeks out by that point, which I think means that I could have small portions of some chili so long as I chew really well. Anyway, I would like to enter my own recipe...but I don't have a recipe!!! If anyone would be willing to let me enter your recipe in the cookoff, please leave it here! :blushing: I was wading through recipes on AllRecipes, but was wondering what you have all come up with that is early post-op friendly! Hope to hear from ya'll soon! :confused1:

My main dilemma lately has been not wanting to eat. Had my six month check-up yesterday and I am doing so well in many areas. My weight is down 115 pounds, my vitamins and blood levels are very good, BP was 130/70. I mean, wow! But I am averaging less than 1000 cals per day. All told, I should be at 1400, but nothing sounds good to eat! I will stand in front of the fridge, like in the days of old, and stare. Now it is not how much I can pull out and consume, but more that nothing looks or sounds good. Any suggestions? My therapist suggested that it may be because it takes so much "effort" and time to eat right that it has lost the appeal it once had. Might be some truth t…
