My husband and I had a nice date night tonight at Red Lobster. PostOp eating out is quite different than before. For example, The waitress thought it was VERY strange I refused to order a drink (I didn't want it near me to tempt me). Lol. I also found transferring my food to a smaller plate made eating out less overwhelming. I ordered grilled shrimp and coconut shrimp (my husband wanted coconut shrimp) with a side of veggies. Pre-sleeve I would have shared and appetizer, eaten a couple biscuits, ate nearly everything on my plate, and possibly dessert. The plate above is what I ordered and what the pre-sleeved me would've eaten. The plate below is what I ate (minus a…

Hi all! Sunday I will be 10 days post-op and start phase 2, which is full liquids. The problem is, I'm having a hard time coming up with things I can eat. I've been living off of sugar free jello and Popsicles, and of course protein shakes, but I need some ideas. I'm excited for the day I'll get to eat eggs, refried beans, veggies. Can you help a girl out?

I'm eating my first one now-- pretty good actually, I was afraid it would be too hard or too chewy. I cut mine in 1/2 and eating 1/2 as lunch. What do y'all usually do? Whole? Half? Meal? 1/2 as snack?

I just read that potassium RDA is 4700 mg for adults and magnesium is 420 mg. Given a post op history with cramping when working out hard (3x so far), I decided to buy a supplement called potassium and magnesium 250 from GNC. Has 250 mg of each per capsule. The problem is that if I take many of these during the day to hit potassium RDA, I will OD on magnesium, which I am certain cannot be good for your neurological system. Does anyone know if 4700 mg of potassium is really required? My goal is to prevent cramps or any nerve issues (zaps as I like to call them). My Multivitamin has 100 mg of magnesium and no potassium. I will eat banana occasionally in the morning a…

I'm on purees and since surgery my body has decided to reject lactose (cow's milk) in all its forms. I can no longer tolerate yogurt, cottage or ricotta cheese, cream Soups, or Protein shakes made with milk solids. Lactaid doesn't help. I know there are some Protein drinks out there without lactose, but I'm struggling to come with other protein ideas (and getting awfully sick of broth). I seem to do o.k. with Beans, but tuna salad (even pureed) does not go down well yet. Neither does an egg. Any ideas? Thank you, forum peeps!

I am 6 weeks out and am doing very well with soft meats- meatloaf, taco meat, salmon, and pulled pork. The place I get my pulled pork makes it very soft. Goes down easy. But yesterday I decided to try a new BBQ spot. This pork had crispy ends to the shreds of pork. And those crispy, hardened ends almost killed me. Last night was the first time I'd ever gotten sick. I felt so awful beforehand for about 40 minutes that I decided I should be sick. It felt like my lower esophagus/upper stomach was getting torn up. Well, all I can tell you from that ordeal is to chew your food well. Break it down thoroughly before you swallow. Anyone else want to tell their f…

Just wanted to post a question as to who has been doing the Ketogenic diet, or Atkins? I know everyone is doing lower carb, but I also know that if you don't have carbs you really need to have some fat in your diet. The outline my doc gave me was very low fat and very low carb. Without some fat in my diet I have absolutely no energy. Please!, tell me your thoughts and experiences.

My name is LipstickLady and I am a cokezero-aholic. I've been clean and carbonation free for 2 months and 27 days. I am determined to stay this way but my limits are being tested late at night. Like REALLY late at night. I gave up carbonation and caffeine cold turkey on April 18 and haven't strayed yet. I've been tempted, but I've held my ground. For the last week or so, I've been having very vivid dreams of opening a can of Coke Zero and chugging it down (physically impossible for me). I dream of holding a Big Gulp cup and filling it over and over, just pouring it all over myself. I can smell Coke Zero in my dreams and I can feel the cold bubbly goodness fizzi…

I have spent a lifetime avoiding anything to do with chicken soup, like the plague. The very idea of chicken soup in any form was revolting to me. I am in my post surgery liquids phase. I am to not have anything that doesn't easily run through a wire strainer. That thought alone is somewhat gross to me. Today i gave in and decided to bite the bullet and try a cream of soup. I chose Campbells Cream of Chicken with Herbs. I thinned it way down with skim milk and warmed it. OMG its absolutely delicious! How is it possible that a persons taste buds can change so drastically? I mean seriously, to go from utter disgust to love! Bizarre. I will take it happily. Now instead of d…

I'm on the Bariatric Choice website for the $20 deal (btw, am I the only one who finds it funny that VST doesn't recognize "bariatric" as a vocabulary word?) trying to figure out what's worth spending money on. I know not all Protein shakes, supplements, bariatric foods are not created equally, but this stuff is spendy! And there are a lot of things I could find equivalents for at Wal-Mart. Or so it would appear. Those of you who order regularly from them, what do you think is worth paying a little extra for? Any particular brands, shakes containing _____ g of protein, foods you can't get anywhere else? Much appreciated!

I'm sick of cheese, cottage cheese, tuna, Beans, I hate fish, and I have had so much strained Soup broth soft cooked veggies make me gag. Also I can't tolerate the Protein drinks. I have tried everything under the sun and a few sips in and I'm hovering over the toilet. Please help me with ideas for food, words of encouragement anything. So the cost of my surgery includes 1 year of services with a nutritionist, as many times as I'd like. The problem is they only have 1 NUT on staff, and I don't like her! She's completely unhelpful, she just tells me the same things over & over (get more Protein, avoid carbs, ignore your cravings) but never tells me HOW. Also, she's never had WLS, and has never been overweight. She just does not get it! I've complained to the surgeon, but he thinks she's great. So...any recommendations for a NUT in the San Jose, CA area that specializes in WLS patients? Preferably one who has overcome obesity in some way as well - it would be nice to work with someone who actually u…

Never thought it was going to be so hard to eat slow. Was cleared for puréed/mushy as tolerated and on my list was Cheerios made soggy in milk... First couple bites were slow and I chewed, and they were small bites, but then habit set in and I shoveled THREE bites into my mouth at one!!!!! I caught myself before I swallowed and I swallowed in 3 smaller portions but man I felt like I was in 6th grade and about to miss the bus!!!!! Hi guys! So I'm always trying to find healthy ways to get my Protein in. I found out about Tempeh, its fermented soybeans mashed into a patty...I know it sounds gross but its a big step up from Tofu. It has 31g of protein in One Cup!! So I purchased some from Trader Joes today and attempted to cook it. I started by cubing it and sauteing it with some middle eastern spice...fail it was not good! Second try I boiled it in chicken broth with garbonzo Beans and curry...fail still not good! I was gonna just throw it out and give up, but I'm like ok this is a lot of protein to trash so I rinsed it put it in the blender with taco seasoning, some sweet yellow corn and so…

I'm sure this is a silly question, but I have to ask it as I have surgery in 6 days. After surgery I have to have 60 oz of water a day -- at least. Does the water I add to a protein drink for example, count towards that requirement? I'm normally a water drinker. I love the stuff. But I'm a chugger! I've been practicing "sipping" my water the past few days and holy cow does it take a longgggg time to get through a bottle of water at that rate. Any advice is appreciated

I've learned my lesson!! Just got back from the hospital about an hour ago. I was sleeved on April 17th. I have not had any problems with loosing weight. ( Thanks be to God) Since loosing weight hasn't been a problem I figured it was time for a treat. I've been eating about a cup of some mixed popcorn (Carmel, yellow cheese and white cheese) for the last 3 days. On Mondays's and Tuesday's my job provides us with lunch. Usually I have some Water with my salad, but yesterday I decided it was time for another treat I had a 7up (fooling my self since it said DIET) Clearly I was not fooling this sleeve. Also last night my grand baby loves Lucky Charms so passing…

I rarely drink. I live near a moonshine store and recently on girls night out, we sampled the shine. I was VERY buzzed!!! I've noticed I can drink very little and get pretty drunk...but then I sober up very very fast. I'm usually sober by the time my girlfriends are getting buzzed. Does the alcohol hit your bloodstream faster??? I thought it only did this to gastric bypass people
