I'm 12 days post op and I'm having a hard time getting my protein in. I'm so over the shake any other ideas? Would it be gross if I put some protein powder in my yogurt or pudding?

I'm pre-op and am about to start my diet soon. I want to start playing around with smoothie recipes but I'm unsure how to pick a Protein powder. I know taste plays a part and varies for each individual but I'm wondering of there's a standard to go by, such as grams of protein, carbs, sugars, ect. Also are we better off with whey, Soy, ect... Any info would be helpful! Thanks in advance!

Well I went to a appointment with a nutritionist in my home town. Which in all honesty was a total waste I time in my mind. She did no know anything about the surgery, or what type of diet I was on or anything. She tried to tell me that I will be all good if I followed the regular food guide intake chart for a "normal person" is what I should be following for a diet. As for vitamins and supplements she said the only thing I should be concerned about is my protein and calcium. I know that is not totally correct. What kind of vitamins is a decent one to take, I know I am lacking in iron and I am trying to make sure I get enough protein in what else should I be looking at fo…

  6. So, I am sure this has been asked before, but would like to see responses from current times. What Multivitamin were you prescribed post-wls, and do you still take that one, or have you switched to anything different? How about Calcium,D3, Iron, any other things prescribed by doc, related to WLS? I was told to take either optisource or Bariatric fusion. Both of these are required to be taken 4x a day, and I rarely get all 4 in I usually get 3 in per day. The NUT told me not to take Opurity (which is a once a day bariatric Vitamin, that I wouldn't get enough in,but honestly, I would get more in taking that once day than forgetting 1-2 tablets per day. What do you t…

Is there one or two places online or otherwise where I can go and buy a variety of what I will need to sustain me pre and post op? Of course, samples would be good, or smaller quantities because I know my taste may change post op.

Someone told me that non-synthetic veggie based protein powder would be better and more easily digested than the 100% whey im currently using. Does anyone use it or know where I can find it for relatively cheap?

  9. If Protein drinks are a problem, you should try using candy flavoring oils. They're really good and if you don't have a candy supply store nearby, you can buy them online. They come in so many different flavors that there's something for everyone, like butter rum, marshmallow, cherry cordial, blackberry, and pretty much everything else you've ever seen in a candy cream filling flavor. You can also try the flavor section in the grocery store, but the selection will be more limited. You can also try reducing the amount of liquid you use to get more of a loose pudding texture, and refrigerate it overnight to let it become creamier. Barring that, you can heat the ingredient…

  10. Started by Cherrybomb,

Awhile before my surgery I had read somewhere that people who used Probiotics after surgery lost a percentage (forget what percentage) more weight. At the time I had coupons and and combined them with a CVS sale to get four boxes of them free. I forgot all about them until I found them in the back of my cabinet today. Does anyone have any experience with these helping to lose more? I wish I would have remembered them before Saturday when I was still on a stall. I'm going to start using them today, but since I am losing good the past few days I won't know if they are really helping or not. Maybe I should save them for my next stall?

  11. Started by Bob_350lbs,

I don't care for Protein drinks, probably because of years of dieting using slim fast, medifast, etc...but I realize that some days, to get in all my protein, I have to use them. So, in my 32 oz Water bottle I sometimes add 1 scoop of Syntrax nectar, "Fuzzy naval" 4 tsp of Benefiber, 3 tbls splenda, and 16 oz water, shake, then fill the rest up with ice. That takes me through the morning. It kinda reminds me of Tang. I couldn't stand Syntrax at first, but now I have my own little formula that makes it more tolerable. And, when I use the GNC amplified wheybolic extreme 60, vanilla flavor, I will add a couple frozen strawberries, and 1/4 cup 2% milk, to 6 oz of water.…

K bare with me because it might take experimenting with pudding flavors and Protein powder flavors and amounts of each on your end to make this work! In a blender I mix one scoop of Protein Powder. One cup of skim milk. One-two cups of crushed ice (blends better) blend all together. Then I add some pudding (your flavor of choice sugar free fat free) to help with the crappy Protein shake flavor that most don't like. Blend up nice and u have a wonderful shake. It even helps if u freeze it for a while before consuming. The smaller the shake easier to consume to get your protein. Sometimes add less liquids to your powder to help make it smaller an more "do able".

  13. I'm just beginning my process and would like to start developing some good habits before surgery. I would like to start replacing a meal with a Protein shake several times a week. - Which meal would y'all suggest? - Where do I shop for Protein shakes? - Any good "tricks"? - Anything I should stay away from that will be "bad" post-surgery? Any advice is very much appreciated! Thanks!

...Make people get so nauseated? There must be a scientific reason for such a rapid response of nausea right after chewing them up. I have been Googling looking for some sort of answer, and many people have the same reaction, but no one seems to be wondering why. Seems strange to me. Anyone have answers????

  22. Started by StartingOver,

I'm looking for some low calorie protein shake recipes. I usually have a scoop of vanilla bean torte (Nectar) with one cup of skim milk. I've also tried mixing with water and a Crystal Light individual pack to cut down on the calories.

  23. Hello, I am going to be going out of town soon and I would like to know what Protein powder is best for mixing with Water. I usually drink the ready-made shakes, I didn't want to bother with packing them and I don't have a refrigerator in my hotel room. So if anyone has any suggestions of powder that can be mixed with just water and ice in a shaker cup, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  24. I keep looking around, but as far as I can tell, protein bars are just glorified candy bars. I don't want to work so hard at changing habits and lifestyle only to live off of candy bars for the rest of my life. I don't like sweets that much and I don't really like chocolate and frosting covered stuff. Does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks.

I've seen quite a few posts where people list the Vitamins they take. It seems a lot of people like the gummy Multivitamins but they don't contain any Iron. I haven't been seeing people list that as one of their supplements. Are you just not taking any iron in supplement form? Shouldn't you be? Thanks!

I can't seem to prevent the nausea, even went I take food with them. I drink my protein shake first. I wait a few minutes and then take my multi-vitamin, calcium, and fiber therapy capsules at the same time. Then I eat a little something just to have real food on my stomach. And I still get a little nausea/sour stomach feeling a few minutes later. It really tempts me to not take my vitamins, but I know I must. Anybody else have this problem?

Im trying to find a great, previous thread that someone posted about what to buy in advance for surgery ie. Chicken broths yada yada.. it was such a great, detailed thread! If you know where its at please send me the link cause my big day is approaching and i need to buy all my stuff! Help!

These two are found at the vitamin shoppe much cheaper than most places like GNC. Although GNC has a great shake called Total lean and it is very good. The vitamin Shoppe has a special in most places buy on get one 50% off which helps alot. I dont recommend the protien bullets ugh they are horrible. Also while your at the shoppe get some biotin you will need it for your hair, after surgery your hair takes a beating from hell. Biotin pills and keratin shampoos etc will help with the loss. Im not a big fan of the muscle milk i think it taste like the bullets and they are good for decorating the fridge but thats it. Good luck sleevers.

  37. Has anyone tried the ENS powdered multivitamin with calcium?? I have read that some find the Bariatric Advantage version to be too sweet and I see several people have ordered the Celebrate ENS version but I am curious if anyone has actually tried it yet. My surgeon wants me to drink Glucerna, Boost Glucose Control and Atkins shakes for my Protein. They taste good and are from 10 to 16gr per shake and I am to drink three a day which seems like a lot to me and I have only been able to get two a day down so far. I am still the liquids stage of this since I was only sleeved 9 days ago. Also I know my BS is going to be all over for a while but this afternoon when I checked it after a Boost shake it was really high and I had to take an insulin dose to cover myself. Now I'm kinda afraid to "eat" anymore tonight, Thoughts? Suggestions?

  43. I tried the Oh Yeah cookies and cream, and vanilla. They're lactose free so I don't think that's an issue. I tried Atkins Advantage Milk Chocolate and it wasn't as rough on my stomach as the Oh Yeah, but still. I'm starting to get a little concerned. My surgery is April 24th and I'm afraid I'm not going to find one that works in time.

Does anyone know how much protein is enough? Is more better? How much is too much? My Dr. said 8oz. a day but that totally ignores the various concentrations. Some are 42gms in 3.8 oz while others are 17gms. in 8 oz. Did anyone get any specific guidance on this?

Hey everyone! Is anyone interested in some chewable calcium citrate? I bought 3 bottles & they are too gritty & vitamin tasting for me. I would send them for just the cost of shipping which I am guessing would be no more than $5. Let me know if interested. First come, first serve:)

  47. My aunt, who has the lapband (who will soon be switching to the sleeve) shared her little trick for getting her protein shakes down. At night when she is wanting something sweet, she makes a chocolate protein shake with a quarter of a banana and puts a dash of mint extract, helps with the taste AND the smell!! She made one for me with chocolate muscle milk protein and I swear it was close to a milk shake! You can buy all kinds of extracts at Wal Mart in the spice section, mint, coffee, cinnamon, lemon etc...
