Any suggestions on getting this down? I'm in the hospital and they brought me a few ounces of the alpine punch flavor. I've got it chilling over ice, but everytime I take a sip I gag. I'm pretending its medicine that my body needs. Can I mix it with anything to make it taste better? BTW this isn't the Protein shakes, but the light colored stuff in the tall glass bottle.

I'm a little over 4 weeks. I've been in the hospital every single week since surgery with random complications, so I am a bit behind in diet schedule. I've just started Protein shakes AGAIN 3 days ago and it is taking me all day to get 40grams of protein in. I'm using GNC Wheybolic 60 Cookies and Cream. I really like it and so does my sleeve. I'm having to do an ounce an hour or I feel sick. In between I'm guzzling Water to make sure I get at least 50 oz of Fluid in. I know I am no where near where I should be, but I am doing the best I can. Is it ok to space the shake out over a long time period? I keep it refrigerated and then pour some in my little cup to sip on. Do…

Below is a picture of the liquid Calcium by Bluebonnet that I found at Whole Foods today. It was on sale for $9.99. I just tried it. It actually taste pretty good. I didn't gag or anything. I will let you know in the next few days if it starts to bother me. It's so much better than those chewables I was taking. Also I saw the Calcium mini tabs. Didn't buy them, since I can't see how "mini" they really are. They were $14.99 at Whole Foods. Has anyone else tried these? Thought I would try the liquid if that didn't work, then I'll try the mini tabs. But you just have to take more of them to get in my daily requirements.

my counselor told me about these, supposedly it is 26grams of Protein for a cup and you can add them to drinks. Has anyone tried these? I am still struggling trying to find something I can get down without gagging.

Are they permitted in your protein drinks post-op, and if so, how soon after surgery? When I tried the medically supervised diet shakes in the past, I always used different sugar-free syrups and extracts to make the taste a little more exciting. I'm hoping to have surgery in September, so I want to stock up if they are allowed. Thanks!

I am pre-op (surgery scheduled for 8/10) - I haven't had my nutrition class yet and have this on my list to ask, but I have ulcerative colitis and have to take 9 pills a day of just my colitis medication (3 3xday). I also take a blood pressure pill in the a.m. and as of now I take a multi-Vitamin and one Calcium tablet in a.m. and p.m. I am very nervous about taking that volume of pills when I have my new baby sleeve. Anyone else have lots of pills they take and do they have problems? They make a 1-a-day pill for colitis but it is extremely expensive and I hate to give up my cheaper generic.

I have a question about the vitamins and supplements people are taking. I have not yet had my sleeve but i have read that some people take vitamins and some do not. Does the (VSG) surgery rob you of any vitamins or nutrients our body needs. Is it because we will be eating less food the main reason we would take them to make sure we do not have any deficiencies that our body needs? Do all surgeons encourage the patients that have had the sleeve to take these vitamins and supplements? My next question is how would you know what to take and how much without having another blood work up after the surgery? Sorry for all the questions, this is all new to me and I am just tryin…

I see all this talk about Protein poweders and I know right after surgery you really can't eat thick foods, but later on, why can't you eat greek yogurt to get most of your protein. I love Fage 0% total greek yogurt. 1 cup has 23 gms of protein. Just wondering. I hate powdered drinks. But going out tomorrow to GNC to get a few samples of some to try them out before my surgery. Thanks for any info.

I am at the stage in my process that after my last nutrition visit today, I have just one more visit with the surgeon, then off for insurance approval hopefully soon after, surgery. I have been purchasing much needed protein products and have read little about this particular item. Has anyone tried this protein teeny weany ? I have read some great reviews at sport sites, I would love to hear your feedback. It's IDS Sports, Grape flavor 42 grams of protein in 3.5 ounces. Check it out. http://www.gnc.com/p...oductId=2830575.

Anyone tried these and where from? I'm only 17 days out and missing my coffee like crazy. At some point I hope to be able to drink it again and I just found out they have some that have protein in them??? If this is true, then I will be able to drink my coffee AND get my protein at the same time. Someone tell me these really exist! If so, how long should I wait to try one? I was told to drink decaf tea instead of coffee for awhile.

Yesterday I was able to get in about 6 oz of protein shake in at one sitting, within an hour. Today I can barely get 2 oz in and I've been working on this for about 2 hours. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm doing pretty good with my water intake. I made sure I stopped drinking water 30 mins before I started the shake so I would be able to get the protein shake in. I actually felt hungry yesterday...today not so much. Any advice appreciated

I've been stocking up on Protein supplements. I now have 30 bottles of high protein vanilla Boost and 32 bottles (came in bonus packs of 8) of high protein chocolate Boost. I also have three large tubs of whey Protein Isolate powder one each in chocolate, vanilla, and unflavoured. I'm not really sure about the Boost. I took a look at the label but could not tell what form of protein is in there. I have to do a three week liquid diet before surgery so If they're no good after surgery I'll just use them before.

I'm getting sleeved in two weeks and have been preparing my home for my new life ie: got rid of the junk, got some sugar free jellos and puddings but the Protein powder Im confused about. I am not a fan of the ultra sweet flavor of the Protein Powder but I found a powder that has no flavor, no aspartame, no artificial food colouring, no preservatives and no food flavouring and "micro/ultrafiltration Low Temperature Process Low Lactose". It has 24 grams of whey protein and it is Isolate Whey Protein Mix.....is this a good one? It is good for me because of the no flavor so I figured I could mix it in with everything (Soup, coffee, pudding, baby food) and wouldn't actu…

Hi everyone, I'll be a year out in August, and I have been majorly stalled. I'm about 20 pounds from my goal, and would really like to lose the rest, so I called my doc's office and asked the nurse there a few questions about my current diet, etc. and what I can do to start losing again. Sooo....to my surprise, she said that I should no longer be doing the protein shakes as a meal supplement (I had been doing an Oh Yeah! chocolate shake - 220 cals, 32 g protein - for breakfast most days) This is news to me. I thought that this was ok, so now I'm thrown off a bit. Do your docs tell you not to do the shakes any more once you're farther out? To me, they're more conv…

Well, it was bound to happen I suppose. I finally found a Protein powder that I really don't care for. My surgeon required me to purchase 2 big containers of Protein Powder for this pre-op diet. I chose nectar chocolate and unjury strawberry. The Unjury Strawberry has a good strawberry taste - but there's a nasty "side" taste to it too. I imagine that's the "protein powder" taste that everyone complains about, but really, this is the first time I have actually tasted it. I had tried several different samples of Bariatric Advantage and Nectar before hand, and liked them all. This unjury though is not that great. I also am having a hard time getting it to "dissolve". Thi…

I went to http://www.nashuanutrition.com/store/clearance/ and they have expired protein bullets at about half price. I think I will buy some and judge from there. I am not real comfortable buying expired food. Kinda hate to take the chance on losing money but hate to pass savings if they are still good. Is this a powder? I would think a powder would not go bad very fast but a liquid might. Khy

Am having a very hard time with shakes. They all so far have gagged me. Getting quite a collection in the pantry. Even Jay Robb which my nut said was "fabulous" too goopy and won't go down. Doc gave me some samples and unjury chocolate Splendor with Sucralose actually tastes like choc milk and not goopy! Bariatric Advantage oatmeal and vanilla capuccino (also samples from Doc) weird. Oatmeal ok but not really oatmeal. Capuccino....wierd and gagged me too much wierdness foam on top??? Unjury chicken Soup ok....not really soup kind of broth. I laugh everytime I try a new one.....yep monkeybutt.....hahah.....my hubby even says it now!

Has anyone tried these? Myoplex Carb Control Ready-to-Drink contains Milk Protein Concentrate, Calcium Caseinate, and whey Protein Isolate. I've tried the strawberry and it tastes pretty good but I'm not sure if it is good for us or not since it has a couple of types of protein. There is a total of 25g of protein and 5g of carbs in an 11 oz shake. Here is the link http://www.myoplexeas.com/myoplex-carb-control-ready-to-drink

I have heard so many mixed reviews about Isopure. I tasted the pre-made Isopure in the bottle. The Alpine Punch flavor.... rocks! It has a little bit of a dry aftertaste, but to me the aftertaste is similar to yogurt. You know how yogurt leaves a slight dry aftertaste? I don't know, but I had 2 of my co-workers try it and they both loved it too. I tried the Blue Raspberry flavor and Mango Peach and they aren't as good as the Alpine Punch. For zero carbs, 40g of Protein and 160 calories.... I'll take it! I think it will be my saving grace in the liquid phase. Watch, with my luck, my tastes will change and I won't like it post-op. lol. But for now, one a day and I am…

Before I was sleeved, I bought a 35 oz (2.2 pound) cannister of nectar brand whey proten isolate, lemon tea flavor. I have used 1 scoop of Protein from it. I am now getting my protein from food, and am no longer using the powder. It tastes fine - I just don't need it. I'm not on the liquid diet yet, but after reading the posts on here, I thought I would order some of the samples to see what I would like. I realize that my tastes may change after surgery, but this will give me an idea at least. So, I figured I would try one a day or so until I go on the liquid diet (I ordered a lot of samples) when I know I'll have to up it. Today, I had the Syntrax nectar Twisted Cherry. I mixed the 26g pouch in with about 12 ounces of Water. First sips aren't too bad. No real bad odor and while there is a bit of an aftertaste, it's not totally disgusting. I actually like it. What kind of surprised me though was on this packet (which I got from Na…

Hi all, Just wanted to whey in (sorry I couldn't resist!) with the Protein powders I've selected. I chose Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey because it seemed to have the best protein/calorie balance of the protein powders and drinks recommended by Kaiser Fremont. I purchased it at GNC. I am hoping two 5-lb tubs will take me through the period that I will need to supplement solid protein. I have a bit of an advantage over some because I love greek yogurt and like cottage cheese, so I hope to be getting my protein from food fairly quickly. I chose Double Rich chocolate and French vanilla flavors. I've tried them both simply stirred into milk and blended alone…
