Well, it was bound to happen I suppose. I finally found a Protein powder that I really don't care for. My surgeon required me to purchase 2 big containers of Protein Powder for this pre-op diet. I chose nectar chocolate and powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury strawberry.
The Unjury Strawberry has a good strawberry taste - but there's a nasty "side" taste to it too. I imagine that's the "protein powder" taste that everyone complains about, but really, this is the first time I have actually tasted it. I had tried several different samples of Bariatric Advantage and Nectar before hand, and liked them all. This unjury though is not that great. I also am having a hard time getting it to "dissolve". This morning it had a ton of clumps that ended up staying in my glass and wouldn't come out until I scrubbed the glass clean. I mixed it with 8 ounces of skim milk - so I don't know if that was the issue or not.
The Nectar chocolate was awesome - just like the chocolate milk I grew up loving. Again, I mixed it with 8 ounces of skim milk. The nectar mixes really well.
On my pre-op diet that I started today, I'm supposed to have 4 of these Protein shakes a day. Well as of 6:30 pm, I still needed to drink 2 shakes, so what I did was use one scoop of each - the unjury strawberry and nectar chocolate and mixed it with 16 ounces of skim milk. That really helped with the nasty taste of the unjury. The unjury also seemed to mix better tonight as there were no large chunks of it left in the glass. It tasted just like chocolate covered strawberries. YUMMY!!!!
I wonder though if I did wrong by doing 2 of my shakes at the same time. I'm supposed to have 4 shakes mixed with skim milk (if I use Water, then it's supposed to be 5 shakes!) plus eating 6 items of "real" food each day. Well, I still have 2 items of "real food" to get to today, but I'm full. I didn't really want the shakes tonight because I wasn't hungry, but I knew I had to get them in. I guess I won't have to worry about being hungry the next two weeks if this continues.
