I'm feel quite sure I am not the only person to ask this question or have this problem. Since the surgery I have become extremely lactose intolerant. This is complicated by the fact I've never really liked the taste or texture of meat. I will eat some grilled chicken and I am beginning to enjoy some kinds of fish. But the idea of eating meat everyday for the rest of my life is pretty gross. So pre-surgery I was using a whey protein from GNC as a supplement. I tried using is post sugery with absolutely disastrous effects even with the lactose pills. I tried the local health food store for a spirulina based protein vanilla sample. I have to say that was gross. Gen…

I have a hard time getting enough Protein. Ever since the surgery protein shakes/drinks make me gag. I have found a new product that I like and thought I would share It is called protein gem and it is just like sf Jello, and has 25 grams of protein and 1 fruit serving per cup, 10 carbs and 130 calories name of the company that makes it is Protica they also have candy (15grms protein) and 100 calories (ordered but have not tried yet) I have tried the orange/pineapple gem and it is not bad. Just like SF Jello, with a thicker consistancy I bought mine through skymall.com because I had a coupon, but you can also buy directly through the manufacturer Hope thi…

So I looked through every page on this forum to see if anyone had talked about Bariatric Advantage Protien shakes. My Doctor gave me a list of shakes they recommend and this is one of them, But there isn't anywhere I can find that you can buy samples and they are to expensive to just buy without knowing what they are like. Has anyone tried them or been able to find samples.

I am scheduled for surgery on June 15th so I am trying to get everything lined out and ready before I let that date sneak up on me! I've been wondering and would probably find the answer if I searched more (lol) but what works best for you guys liquid or pills when it comes to vitamins? It seems like the liquid would go down much easier but might cause some nausea, but on the other hand it seems like a pill or chewable would be harder on my new tummy. Anyway, I went ahead and bought the liquid but I haven't tried it yet, so I'm hoping I made the right decision! Thanks!

Hi y'all: Before I had surgery, I went to the Vitalady site and ordered a LOT of individual samples of various Protein powders. I don't know what I was thinking. My sleeve has become much more sensitive and I cannot tolerate the protein powders--this is NOT the fault of the products, which are perfectly fine, but I just can't use them. Would any of you like a box of this stuff? There's probably 50 different unopened samples of Protein powder in each box (although I honestly haven't counted), lots of flavors, lots of brands. They're all from Vitalady (different brands she carries) with a couple from Jay Robb (purchased at GNC) and a couple from unjury (purchased fr…

Hello everyone. I was just wondering if there is really a big difference in taste between Celebrate & Bariatric Advantage? My Doc's office pushes BA, but I got free samples of Celebrate and honestly, I thought I was gunna hurl! LOL!! Do the BA Vitamins taste any better? Just wondering! Thanks. Wendy

Since I hear lots of raving about Click Protein powder I decided to order some from Amazon. I am sadly not in love with it. I think I ordered Espresso Mocha and vanilla Latte, and they both are dissapointing. I have made them into Protein shakes using plain milk, plain Water and I've also tried almond milk. They are passable, just not wow. And I am also not happy with carb count or caffeine content. (That is strictly my fault, as I didn't research them very much!) I've been drinking decaf coffee and gave up plain (unsweet tea) due to caffeine content, so why the heck did I order Protein Powder with caffeine. Ugh. I tried mixing some in my Fage yogurt and it was just…

I posted this information on another thread but copied it over here with a title that will make it easier for folks to find. I looked up this article in Consumer Reports because someone posted that they did an article on Protein drinks. The article on Protein Drinks (July 2010) is scary. I didn't type the whole article here but I tried capture the main issues. My comments are in blue...the rest are direct quotes from the article. "Some protein drinks can even pose health risks, include exposure to potentially harmful heavy metals, if consumed frequently. All drinks in our tests had at least one sample containing one or more of the following contaminants: ar…

So I had my 4 month check up. I'm down around 120lbs and pretty much everything was good except my Vitamin D levels, which were 6.1 ng/ml (as opposed to a normal range of 30-100 ng/ml). The doctor prescribed DRSIDOL 50,000 units, which, um, seems pretty strong. Anyone familiar with this medicine and any side effects? Thanks.

I have searched on here, and haven't found any information about this. Has anyone used the Protein powder from smoothie King called Gladiator? I got some samples, and really like them. It is low carb, less than 1 sugar, and has 45g whey Isolate protein. I also bought some Body Fortress to mix with pudding, milk, etc in vanilla, and it has 52g whey isolate. Has anyone tried these? I would love to get an opinion. So far, I have tried the following, and thought.... unjury chicken Soup- Loved it at first, but then got tired of it fast! 21g protein= 1 scoop Bullets- Couldn't get them down...not a single one, even the tiny ones...especially them Isopure - tried grap…

Aren't we all? I feel like, even though I find the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored palatable, I don't care for the fact that it is only 20 grams in 2 scoops. Is there a palatable unflavored powder with better Protein stats? I simply have to add too much of the unJury and it takes away a lot of the flavor of the Soup to which I add it.

Is it ok to use soy milk this early out from surgery? I made a peanut butter shake tonight (from my new hero, Eggface) and used 1/2 water and 1/2 Silk Vanilla Soy...also called foe a Tbs of peanut butter. I took a few sips and nearly cried because of how good it was then thought maybe I should check here for more solid advise.

So I'm a lurker on the board, trying to learn everything I can before surgery. I just finished my last of the 6mos supervised diet per insurance requirements. My dr doesn't have a pre-op liquid diet, but I am trying to start with the protein shakes now, so if nothing else, I'll know which ones I like. My question is this...what do you mix with them? I bought samples of the Chike banana and chocoloate, and they are really good, but i mixed them with milk. Which I think probably adds way too many carbs. I know there are recipes out there for all kinds of stuff, but I work full time and have 2 very young children. I don't see myself getting out the mixer and making anythin…

I was sleeved back on Monday and am on clear fluids for another something days and I've been adding in my Protein supplements. I opened my "unflavored" unjury yesterday and tried that...it's okay and all. So, here's my question: What makes a protein supplement okay to be used for clear fluids? I've scanned through older threads on similar topics and find that basically, "if I can still see through it, it is okay" as the consensus, but not "chocolate". Why? What about other protein supplements? I had stocked up on a variety of sample packs of powders and now I'm paranoid to open any of them in case I can't use them! I did open one and when I saw it looked just like …

So, I got my labs back today. Everything was great but they said that my good cholesterol is low - 33. I don't even know what that means. Apparently I need to eat more foods with higher good cholesterol, but I don't even know what they are. Nutrition is hella new to me. I'm already struggling to get 3 meals a day and 1 snack of protein in a day. Any suggestions?

I went to GNC today to try to find the Max Protein that Eggface recommends (the World According to Eggface blog). Well, the owner (it is a franchised GNC) stopped carrying it because while one batch would taste awesome, the next would taste awful. He didn't want that kind of inconsistency. So, I asked him if he could recommend a good tasting protein, and he pointed at one and said, "This stuff tastes amazing!" He offered to blend up a sample for me in the back, and out came this frothy, fruity Protein Shake. Did I mention the flavor was Mango? It tasted like a Mango Julius - really, really good. I was starting to get worried because while I can gulp down les…

I had been on Juice Plus a few years ago and then basically got lazy and stopped taking it. I was thinking of taking it for these last two months before my surgery. Does anyone know how long AFTER surgery before you could swallow a big capsule (and they are pretty big) again? They also have chewables but they are gummies and I didn't think that sounded like a good idea.

I ordered the sample pack from Chike and it arrived the next day. That was a surprise! Anyway, just wondered how it compares with the others, if you like it, etc. I'm on my preop diet and had the orange flavor last night. I thought it tasted great. I really have not taken any Vitamins consistently since my surgery on July 13th. I've been honest with my surgeon, who tells me that this "is really not a good idea." I'm not quite sure what the problem is. Are there any other sleevers out there who will own up to not taking vitiamins? I'm looking for some motivation to get on a Vitamin regimen, but I can't seem to find the motivation within myself. Generally I feel good and I've done incredibly well in losing weight - I am down about 115 pounds since starting the process, but I am wondering if I am going to regret not being more diligent about the vitamins. I'd really appreciate hear some thoughts on this. Thank…

So, on the way to Tijuana this past Sunday, I saw an ad in the Skymall magazine for this company Protica and they had a ton of different protein shots (3oz) and meal replacement shots. Has anyone tried any of their products? They seem really pricey, but honestly, I wouldn't mind paying if I don't have to try sucking down a huge portion of protein. Thanks for any feedback!

A group for WLS paients on FB posted about how if you let a Protein drink sit it will lose it's protein content. Has anyone heard of this? I make my drink (protein powder/milk/ice) at 0520 am and it sits in a cooler wrapped in an ice pack until usually 9am when I'm ready for Breakfast. It then takes me about 30 mins to drink it. Am I really loosing protein by doing this? I'm not sure how else I can work it since I only like them mixed in the blender and I leave my house at 535am and I just can't stomach it that early in the morning (I tried)! LOL

Can anyone tell me what happens if you have not been taking your B vits? Here's the deal I went to a vit store and I was explaining that I was about to run out of my zip melt dots and I needed to get some more b-12 supplements. Hi All, I am wondering if our little stomachs are able to digest a supplement that comes in a Gelatin capsule. Would it wiser to break it open and drink the liquid? I am thinking in particular of Omega Oil and Vitamin D. I actually just bought some liquid D today that I can drink. I am reading The Vitamin D Solution and am enthused about the possibility that increasing my D intake will really be helpful. Thank you!

What are the key numbers to look at when you're deciding if a Protein drink will be useful to a sleeved person? I used a Protein powder from Unikey Health (the Fat Flush program) that I really liked but I wasn't sure how to evaluate it for my post-sleeve life. I wish I had some left over so I could see if I still liked it! Anyway, here is a link to the nutritional info: http://www.unikeyhealth.com/Supp_Whey_Vanilla Any ideas? Good, bad, ugly? I searched for it on the boards and nothing came up, which makes me think it isn't good for us but I wanted to check... Thanks from a newbie!!

I was looking for other protein supplement options since I have tried so many have not been able to keep them down. I came across liquid egg whites and was wondering if anyone tried this before? It's basically pasteurized egg whites/ I also came across powdered egg whites. I was hoping maybe someone tried it and could tell me their experience on how well it blended in with drinks and such. Hey all- I am 5 weeks post op, and most of the time I drink 8 oz of skim with 1 scoop of Jay Robb strawberry Protein powder. The thing is, that gets old after a while (even though it is quite good), and sometimes I don't want to use almost 200 calories for a Protein shake. I still want to get all of my protein in (my nut says 60-70 grams) but I would like to have an option where I have unflavored protein I can add to SF pink lemonade or something along those lines. I purchased unjury (which everyone says is the best, flavorless etc), and I can sometimes taste it and ALWAYS smell it. The smell is so weird/bad that I can't bring myself to drink it really. Sometimes i…
