I want to bump this up... I am curious on others Vitamin routines.

I think I am taking too many Vitamins so I was hoping others could share their Drs recomendations. I plan on asking my dr at my next visit I am just trying to do my research. I am curious because my post op diet was based on bypass and I know they have apsorption issues but since we don't I feel like I am overdoing it...

Right now I am taking

Daily 2 Multi Vitamins

Calcium citrate (1500 mg) (5 regular citrical or 7 petites)

1 Iron (65 mg)

twice a week sublingual B12

I don't know what the dose of B12 you're taking is, but I take mine daily (1000 mg, on top of the small amount in my multi). Your stomach produces something called intrinsic factor, without which it is impossible to absorb B12. You have to take a lot of supplemental B12 post-op to make up for the sharp drop in the amount of intrinsic factor produced. If your B12 is low, you could end up anemic.

I've also heard we often need a zinc supplement, and that zinc deficiency may worsen hair loss post-op, but I haven't gotten around to getting a zinc supplement yet.

I take

Multi

Iron

B12

Biotin

Oh, and I took liquid Calcium throughout the Clear Liquids stage. Right now, I'm consuming enough dairy that I don't feel it's necessary.

Vit D 3 is important. Most people are deficient in Vit D 3 even people who haven't had WLS. Being deficient in this can cause all sorts of different problems.

There is a good post about it, if you put Vit D in the search you can probably find it.

If you are taking Calcium, it is very important to take a daily Vitamin D3 as well. The two are dependent on each other for absorption. Also, 80% of americans are vitamin D3 deficient.

At 4 weeks out I take nothing but a multi everyday and I actually throw it in with my Protein shakes so I can't taste it! LOL

I get all my blood work done this week so we'll see where I'm sitting since surgery and if I need to be taking anything else!

hello, just a little input on the Vitamins, when you go for you 1st dr appointment, they have you to for blood tests, they check the blood for Iron and other Proteins, but the vitamins my doctor required for me to take was a 1 Multi-Vitamin adult formula,1 iron,or you can take a multi-vitamn with Iron included, calcium with vit.d included and B12, if you are prementapausal you need to take a b6 to help balance the hormons..but please check with your doctor.....when they have you to go for blood test the vitamins you take are based on your system,as to what your body is missing....sleevless4now.

I am three days post op and take daily:

2 Multi Vitamins

1 B-12

Iron

2 Pepcid AC (Because Pepcid Complete has been recalled (will switch to Calcium at two weeks post op))

I have taken Vit. D3 for a couple of years, and at discharge I was told to discontinue. Not sure why, but plan to ask at my first check up.

On discharge they said stop taking my D3, b12(I was low on both of these and have been taking them to get the numbers up), Biotin and Calcium and just take two chewable multis for now...they asked me to stop E before surgery as well.

I baked a gross of (144) chocolate chip cookies for the coffee break (fika) at work. The cool part was that I managed to not eat a single one of them. Not only that but I finished with my baking by 11pm and got up at 5am for my doggie walk before work. This time it was MUCH easier to skip the cookies since I was thinking about dumping in the back of my mind. That and the damn gremlins (oops I mean  grehlins) are on vacation at the moment.
