Hello all, My wife recently discovered that if you buy any Protein powders at GNC and for some reason do not like them, you can either return them for exchange or get your full money back. I tried a few different ones, and the powder I liked the most is called muscle milk. Hopefully this helps someone. p.s. make sure and check with your local GNC I am not sure if this is a company policy.

  3. Many times, I see pre and post op asking about high quality Vitamins. I see so many patients pounding away with sub-standard vitamins, and they really don't realize what they are missing. I realize a lot of surgeons recommend Flintstones or even some of the adult gummies, but really we have to be our best advocates for our best overall health. I really have enjoyed taking the chewable multi-vitamins, Viactive, but now I cannot seem to find them without Calcium. Their calcium is not calcium citrate - which is what I was told to take. I was told NOT to take calcium carbonate. Do any of you have a source for a chewable like the Viactiv that does not have the calcium? I take the calcium citrate separately with a Bariatric Advantage supplement. Thanks so much for your help!

So I was just checking out the insert for my Nexium and it said it can reduce iron absorption. What can I do besides spacing them out as far as possible? Should I be taking more? My current iron supplement is 11 mg and there's another 4 mg in my multi.

  9. Hi all - I'm wondering what everyone is doing regarding the calorie and carb count in their daily supplements. Are you adding those to your daily totals? I'm over 100 calories and 10 carbs just in supplements alone. I want to add flax seed oil to my protein shake, but the calorie count is 120 per tablespoon. Seems like an awful lot of "extra calories". My skin has become dry since surgery and I thought that the flax would help with that. I'm trying to stay under 700 calories/40 carbs per day and with the added calories of the supplements it's getting hard. Please let me know what you all are doing. Thank you for your time......Julie

  15. I made the mistake of buying 4 large containers of vanilla unjury protien from my doctors office. I should have bought some smaller sample packs of other flavors. The Vanilla is absolutely terrible. I went to a GNC store the other day to see if they have some smaller sample packs of any Protein. The smallest they have is a humongous container for $39.95

  16. If you're pre-op and you would like a few packets of unjury Protein chicken broth powder for your clears phase right after surgery, send me a message with your address. First message received gets them. I have unflavored protein that I use for Soups, so I really don't need them any more, and it seems a shame to waste them, even if it is just a few packets.

I can get stuff sent to me through drugstore.com or amazon but the PX carries a lot of protein stuff, soldiers love their muscle-building technology. =) So the stuff we have at the PX are enormous tubs of this Prolab chocolate powder. I'm scheduled for surgery on Monday, 6/28. My pre-op instructions include 2 weeks on a liquid diet, my surgeon recommended Bariatric Advantage Protein Meal Replacement (www.bariatricadvantage.com). I ordered chocolate and strawberry powder, and they've pretty good, and because they are so high in protein (27g), I haven't felt too hungry, although I do miss chewing! You mix 2 scoops of the powder with 8oz of Water. I've prefer them in a blender, I add a little ice and get a nice thick shake. I've also added the powder to water and mixed that way, which is great when you're on the move. I plan on continuing to use this product post-op :blushing:

Anyone else try the Jay Robb whey Protein? I just got a sample from GNC and I think it tastes pretty good. I've just started to try some samples in the hopes of having surgery in June or July. I mixed it with milk. (I'm not sure if that's the recommendation or not for Post Op diets) You can mix it with Water, too. But I haven't tried it that way yet. There's 25 grams of protein in it and it has Slevia no calorie sweetener in it.

From Wikepedia: Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs): The PPIs include omeprazole (Prilosec, Losec), lansoprazole (Prevacid), rabeprazole (Aciphex), pantoprazole (Protonix, Pantoloc), and esomeprazole (Nexium). The reduced secretion of gastric acid and pepsin produced by PPIs can reduce absorption of protein-bound (dietary) vitamin B12, but not supplemental vitamin B12. Gastric acid is needed to release vitamin B12 from protein for absorption. Reduced vitamin B12 levels may be more common with PPIs than with H2-blockers, because they are more likely to produce achlorhydria (complete absence of gastric acid secretion). However, clinically significant vitamin B12 deficiency is un…

Got these at GNC - it is 45g of protein in a 3.1 oz container that looks like a big test tube. I tried the fruit punch flavor - it's almost cough syrup-like in its sweetness and consistency. It's a lot easier (and faster) to get down than a bottle of Isopure, though. My two worries are that it contains 8g of carbs (5g from "sugar alcohol") and a blend of protein. I was told to try for 100% whey protein if possible. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks.

I look over the various postop eating plans out there and see oatmeal, flax, grits on the menu, but not rice - not even blended. I had oatmeal 2-3 days ago and it actually went down very well. Same thing with grits - made with chicken stock, it was very tasty. Both have the potential for sitting and expanding in your stomach, but things went well. So... why the ban on rice early on? Rice is my preferred starch over all of the above and even bread and potatoes. It's just what I grew up eating and my preference. The chewy brown rice at P.F. Chang is my favorite.
