6 days post op and my protien drinks are terrible!

I made the mistake of buying 4 large containers of vanilla powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury protien from my doctors office. I should have bought some smaller sample packs of other flavors. The Vanilla is absolutely terrible.

I went to a GNC store the other day to see if they have some smaller sample packs of any Protein. The smallest they have is a humongous container for $39.95

  • Since you're stuck with the vanilla powder, have you tried doctoring it with sugar free syrups--you can made each shake any flavor you want, and you won't really taste the vanilla base. I use DaVinci

Make sure you get Greek Yogurt which is much higher on protein than regular yogurt. Get the non fat plain and put the SF syrup in there and it will be great. sometimes I add some stevia too to make it

you could also try unsweetened almond milk it had less caloirues then skim and it adds a bit of flavor to the skake

I personaly have tried alot of differnt powders and the only one i can stand is Chike the chocolate kinda tastes like a melted fudgsicle and the vanilla tastes like frosting all tough thay are a little higher on calories and carbs then my Nut would like i figuer as long as i am getting in the protien i can cut out the calories and carbs in other places. Also if you go onto the protien web sites and e-mail them some of them will send you free samples.

There is a spot to get samples of chike on the thread I started in the food section called something like "places to order samples" I think chike raised the price to something like 6.95 for the samples. A lot of people really like chike. The orange cream is really good.It tastes like a dreamsicle or creamsicle or whatever you call those!

I'm on my preop diet and I love the muscle milk light vanilla mixed with vanilla soy milk. I added sf choc syrup this morning. Very good. I have no idea what my tastebuds will do postop, but its good for now. I also like the vitamin world protein shots-49 g protein in 3 oz. Fruit punch and sour apple.

I don't understand why everyone hates protein shakes! Either Iosopure Zero Carb is great, or I'm some kind of freak of nature!

lol

Well, some of them are gritty, ...and I don't like that.

But....I don't like milkshakes, chocolate milk, ....those things anyhow.

So, it's been hard for me to get my Protein down.

But - it's GREAT that you like it. Good for you!!!!!!

how long is the liquids part after surgery, what is the next step you move onto to.

all surgens have there own recomendations for how lond each stage is but for mine it is one week Clear Liquids 1-2 weeks full liquids 1 month pureed 1-2 months mushy/ soft food then ease into solid foods.

Since you're stuck with the vanilla powder, have you tried doctoring it with sugar free syrups--you can made each shake any flavor you want, and you won't really taste the vanilla base. I use DaVinci sugar free syrups that are less that $5 for a 750 ml bottle at supplementwarehouse.com. Other places charge $7-$9 for them.

Torani sugar free syrups are great too. I have the black cherry, hazelnut, caramel, and English Toffee. The black cherry is great in plain yogurt when you can have it.

Make sure you get Greek Yogurt which is much higher on protein than regular yogurt. Get the non fat plain and put the SF syrup in there and it will be great. sometimes I add some stevia too to make it a little sweeter.

Premier pre-made protein shakes are the best (at least to me). You can buy them at Costco or Sam's Club.

Ok, I've been reading alot about Protein drinks, but can someone please clarify what you can have in the clear stage. Are you allowed to have the vanilla/chocolate protein drinks made with milk or soy milk during the clear liquid stage? Or do you have to wait?

Thanks!

You should check with your dr or nut to see what they recomend but on my plan if you cant see through it then you cant drink it on clears so no I cant have protien shakes. but there are web sites that sell protien chicken broth if you feel you cant get your protien in or you could try Isopure. my nut says I have to drink one of the large bottles of that at least every day inorder to get some protien in during that week.

I mix mine with skim milk and add instant coffee. Not bad and I get my caffeine since I stopped drinking my coffee when I had surgery. You could also try adding the sugar free syrups.
