  1. Started by eglean2,

Looking for new additions to my morning smoothie. I have used a scoop of protein, half frozen banana, 1/2 cup skim milk, and 2-4 ounces of frozen fruit. I'm not one for weird combos so if I use strawberry protein, I use strawberries. I have a chocolate truffle protein from nectar that I want to use more of but not sure what fruit would be great and give it an almost ice cream consistency. I don't want to use peanut butter and am looking into pb2. Any thoughts??

  2. I've been on a clear liquid diet longer than most due to a leak and abscess. This site, some wonderful peops suggested to me Isopure protein ready to drink (RTD) bottles. I haven't found one that I like yet. However, the lady at Vitamin Shoppe was a bodybuilder and suggested this other clear liquid protein to me.... it's wonderful! It's called Cytomax Pure Protein Performance and they have three flavors: watermelon (red), tangerine (orange) and tropical (green). I haven't had the watermelon yet, but the other two are a bit tart at first.... but I really am enjoying them. I put them in a huge mug with ice and sip sip sip throughout the day. They have 40 g of protei…

I have been tolerating protein shakes, but getting so sick of them. I'm trying different kinds but each is worse than the next. I would like to do some of eggface's protein shake recipes. I'm on mush, can I put the fruit in my food processor and add it in my protein shake? I don't want to use it as a meal but a way to get those protein drinks down.

Do you take your Vitamins daily? I am horrible with this. I just stare at them most days. Supposed to take my Bariatric Advantage multi, Iron and Calcium daily and I take b12 injection daily.

My favorite protein shake is the vanilla flavored high protein Ensure. It is 14 fl. oz, 25 grams protein, 2.5 grams fat, 5 grams sugar, 3 grams fiber. I pour it into crushed ice which makes it really cold, and so refreshing. If you get a chance, give it a try, you'll love it. grandma64

I am a newbie here. acutally I am still waiting on prelimanary approval from ins. My questions are 1. can you add frozen fat free yogurt in protein shakes? and 2. how many do you drink a day? I have started drinking one every night in place of a supper meal and I find them quite good if I doctor them up with fruit or yogurt.

Spirotein vanilla is the protein powder that I loved prior to surgery. Post surgery, I can't stand it. Don't like the taste so much I can't get it down.

Okay, I need some help! So I have a vitamin D deficiency and I have to take supplements once a week...I have severe head-aches & body aches...Do you think that this deficiency is causing this or something else? I will be one year out on June of this year.

Has anyone tried any chewable protein tablets or wafers in place of shakes? From what I've seen, it sounds like you have to eat 50 tablets to get the amount of protein you get in a shake. But I'm wondering if any of you have found a realistic alternative to the shakes. If I could chew 2 tablets and get 15-20 g of protein, seems like that would be great! Thoughts on this?

So I have the RTD shakes from costco. Pre-op they were a breeze to get down because I drank them through a straw. Now I'm post-op and I pour them in a cup. They are so thick and clumpy it grosses me out and I can't get them down. They have like these big white flakes in them. Is this normal or did I get a bad batch? Sent from my iPhone using VST

I just realized how different the serving sizes are on the protein powders! My NUT wants me to drink Isopure which I keep hearing has 50 grams of protein, and I also bought some Nectar which has 23 grams. The whole time I am thinking I am getting in so much protein since I have been drinking two Isopures a day, but then I just noticed, duh, that the serving size for them is TWO scoops. and the serving size for Nectar is 1/4 scoop= 6 grams protein. I am such a dunce sometimes. Guess I will have to up my amount now.

Hi all, Please tell me I am not the only one feeling like this. I am so miserable and cry a lot. Surgery was on March 20th in Mexico with an amazing doctor (Alberto Aceves) and his wonderful staff. My husband had it done the end of April 2011 and has lost 87lbs. He wants to lose about 20 more and be under 200. I am having such a hard time mentally with this surgery. And somewhat physically. It was 100% needed (I need to lose about 90-95lbs) but only 80% wanted. The first week I was so hungry that I could kill for food. Now when I still eat mushy food, my stomach hurts because I am full but in my mind I am still hungry. There are no local post surgery support groups…

So, my surgery is scheduled May 14th, and I am very excited. Needless to say, I have been all over this website and I have noticed that all of you are talking about Iron supplements. I just made an order for my post-op supplements recommended by my doctor, and I was not instructed to get iron. I was told to purchase a multivitamin (has a little iron in it), calcium citrate with vitamin D, and sublingual B-12. However, my surgeon combined his vertical sleeve and gastric bypass instructions in one packet with no differences. I seriously think he needs to update his paperwork, because they are different procedures with different dietary needs and restrictions. Thoughts…

  24. Started by Cherrybomb,

I was scheduled to have a gastric bypass on 4/3, but came out of surgery with a sleeve. This was due to my intestine not reaching to it's attachment point for a bypass. I didn't really think it would ever happen since I was 8 BMI points below the risk of this happening, so all my pre-op education and research was based on having a bypass. So, today I just realized that I may be open to other types of Protein that I couldn't have with bypass. I was always told that the only kind of protein I would absorb was whey protein isolates. Since my intestines are still intact, I'm assuming that's no longer true. Could anyone please tell me if all types of protein are acceptabl…

Okay, so I am 2 months out and basically eating a normal diet (just smaller amounts). I haven't been very good about getting in my protein. I eat meat daily and greek yogurt, cheese, but these don't get me to where I need to be protein wise. Even if I take 1 protein drink, I still need more. Does anyone eat protein bars? If so, what kinds? Thank you!

I'm doing the pre-op diet right now and will be having surgery next Monday. The diet is going fine, but I'm having trouble taking my iron supplement. I'm taking a Centrum chewable multivitamin twice a day which has iron in it, PLUS I'm supposed to be taking a Feosol Carbonyl Iron before bed each night. The Feosol makes me seriously ill. When I take it, I get this horrible burning feeling all over my body, severe sweats, abdominal pain and cramping, and diahrrea. It's bad...it puts me in bed and close to the toilet all day. Just the diahrrea wouldn't be so bad, but the pain is pretty intense. I can't keep doing this...I'm missing work, and sitting on the toilet weep…

I am 1 week post op and was wondering if anyone knows of any skin creams/lotions that help with skin tightening/firming? I know excercise and lots of water helps, but I just wondered if there is something I could start applying to my skin everyday that would help at all? I have over 200 pounds to lose, so anything that can assist with sagging will be appreciated Maybe they are just wives tales, but I've heard Vitamin E and various other vitamin enriched lotions help.

I got the sample pack and so far I've had Perfect chocolate, Milk Chocolate, vanilla and mint cookie. They are really good. Even better than the Syntrax. Especially the vanilla in my iced coffee. I may be ordering that one next time. The mint cookie is good but almost too sweet. The perfect chocolate seemed to have a little of an aftertaste, but not bad. Milk Chocolate tastes just like chocolate milk. And I mixed it with Water. It mixes well in a shaker cup. A lot better than the stuff I got at Walmart (Body Fortress). No yucky clumps or gritty-ness. They do have a few more calories and carbs than Syntrax. They are between 110 - 140 cal and 2-6 grams of carbs and 23 g…

  32. I am scheduled for my sleeve May 21 so I'm using this time (while I'm impatiently waiting) to research Protein drinks. I read a disturbing article from Consumer Reports about Protein Drinks that were high in metal content such as arsenic, cadmium, lead & mercury. The article was from July 2010 so perhaps these issues have been addressed by the manufacture but meanwhile how do we know? I guess I will avoid some of the higher ones, which were ones I had tried and liked. Unfortunately they only tested 10 different companies (with multiple varieties from some companies). I think there needs to be some organizational support here. Perhaps some of the non-profits such a…

Hello, I am on day 4 of my pre-op diet and surgery is scheduled for April 2. For these two weeks, I am supposed to have 5 shakes a day. I hate the way this tastes and at most, I am able to get 3 down a day. I am not eating anything else and I only drink Water besides the shakes. I was told that the point of the liquid pre-op diet is to help your liver shrink. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks =)

Hi All - I am preop and trying out Protein powders and ready-to-drink (RTD) protein beverages. I have now tried 3 RTD's. 1. Pure Protein - chocolate. Meijer's - First sip I thought it was okay. Second sip - not so good. Kind of chalky. Bad after taste. This is a NO for me. 2. MET-Rx Protein Plus RTD 51 - Frosty Chocolate - Meijer's/Vitamin Shoppe. 15 oz (BIG)/240 cal/2 gm fat/51 protein. This was good. No aftertaste. No medicine or creepy taste. Thicker consistency, almost too thick, but was good on ice. 43. I've been lactose intolerant for 20+ years, so when I started my pre-surgery diet I followed recommendations to use whey Protein isolate powder as a protein source (I mix it with Crystal Light or almond milk). Three weeks into my 1-2 shake daily routine, and I've started breaking out along my jawline, chest and shoulders with hard red bumps. Breakouts like this (along with stomach upset) have happened in the past when I ate/drank too much dairy but I was told that whey protein wouldn't bother me. I will break out the same way if I eat too much cottage cheese, but strangely I can eat yogurt and cheese with no problems at all. I'm not happy, not just because of the bum…

I'm doing liquid Vitamins now and haven't tried any pills and just wondering how my sleeve will handle it. Only 3 weeks post-op.
