There are too many kinds of protein supplements to choose from. I know whey is OK. What about hemp protein or pumpkin seed protein? Is protein protein? They have hemp protein with fiber I used after finishing the HCG diet. It tastes OK. Just wondering if one kind is better?

I know biotin won't for sure help with hair loss, but I was considering getting some to try and prevent it as much as possible. Anybody know how much? I saw some 1000mcg biotin that was dissolve-able, and swallow pills that were like 5000mcg. What's the verdict?

I'm 3 days post op and I've tried the Opurity bariatric vitamins. My nutritionist told me to chew 4 a day. There is NO WAY. They make me so sick and they are so big, they are about the size of a meal I can have. Ugh! Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hey I saw there is a rating Protein powders topic so i thought it would be best to start my own topic about rating Protein shakes. Let's keep this discussion related to pre-made protein shakes, not powders. So far I've tried 5 different protein shakes, only 1 of which I actually like. I'm in my pre op but I'm getting sleeved this Tuesday and I have to decide which Protein shake to live with once I get sleeved. So far ive tried the following, -Lean Muscle Meal from GNC (26g protein) - disgusting almost threw up -Muscle Milk from Wawa - ew couldnt drink it -GNC Total Lean Shake (25g protein) - horrible didnt throw up but couldnt drink it -Pure Protein Shake from GN…

So when considering what protien powder to buy. Is there a typical physician recommend brand? I have a dd with a rare metabolic condition called glycogen storage disease (GSD). Her specialist only allows her to drink "medical protien" bc he says the kind sold at GNC, or general stores contain steriods which would not be good for her. Its like $25 for 17 scoops and it takes two scoops per drink. Its expensive, but I'm not going to do anything to risk her health. So my question is, do your drs typically tell you to avoid these protien powders or can you have them?

Researchers generally determine Protein quality by using the protein efficiency ratio (PER) or the protein digestibility corrected amino acid score (PDCAAS). They determine the PER by evaluating the weight gain in growing rats fed a particular protein compared with a standard protein, egg whites being the gold standard. The higher the PER value, the greater the protein quality. The PDCAAS was introduced as a more accurate way to evaluate protein quality for humans, because it uses human, not rat, amino acid requirements to calculate the amino acid score. It compares the amino acid profile of a protein with the essential amino acid requirements for humans according to The …

I have read on this forum from numerous people that the Protein powders are awful and they just have to choke them down. I got a sample packet from my bariatric surgeon's office and I have to say...it is GOOD!!! It is chocolate Splendor and is rather tasty! Now, with that said, many people have said that what you can tolerate before surgery may not be the case after surgery. So I am wondering what do I do to prepare for after surgery? Should I go ahead and buy the product now or wait?

So, I just ordered an 18 pack of the Premier RTD shakes from Costco. I don't have a Costco card so I ordered off of the internet. I sure hope they taste good! I hate all my protein powders. I have started drinking the Atkins RTD shakes. I have heard good things about Premier, so I went for it. Does anyone know the cost of the Premier RTD at Costco? And how many come in the case?

Hello Since the surgery I have become lactose intolerant. And since I worked this out I have stopped taking Protein shakes. I am in a stall and often at a loss for what to eat easily and want to get back on the shakes. However, I am aware that a lot of the lactose free Protein Shakes on the market contain protein which is not easily absorbed or beneficial. I have been looking at soy, pea, and egg white protein powders. Does anyone know what I should be looking for or what I should avoid? Most threads on here discussing protein powders refer to brands which are no good to me as I live in New Zealand and do not have access to the same brands. So I am looking to u…

Has anyone had trouble swallowing those giagantic calcium pills we have to take 2-3 times a day? They have got to be the biggest pills on the market. . And if the calcium has all that the dr's want us to have, do we need to still take and extra dose? Like the B12 - if that's in calcium do you still need the pill? I HATE TAKING PILLS  . If I drink 3 glasses of milk a day will I be getting the right amount of calcium without taking the pills? Thanks for your responses.

I just made a shake with water from my fridge and isopure alpine punch and just blended it. It tastes yucky. I thought maybe it needed to be colder and put it in the fridge for 30 mins and that didn't help. I will probably always use water as I don't care for milk. My surgery date is Aug 27th and I start liquid diet on Monday and wanted to try a few things out. It could be that the Alpine punch from isopure is just yucky!!!

I am 6 days pre-op. Started liquids today. Started drinking alot of Water instead of sodas over 2 weeks ago. Started taking chewable gummy Vitamins and Biotin about 1 week ago (didn't take vitamins before). I've been suffering from loose stools. Just thought I had a bug but this has been going on too long. In the past I've drank alot of water for this diet or the other and never had this problem. However, this is the first time I've taken vitamins daily. Could this be the problem? suggestions?

I am on day 1 of my pre-op diet! I should have did more homework in finding a protein drink prior to this day but, I'm here now! I tried Preimere Vanilla Shake this morning...I managed to get over half of it down. My problem with it, was that is was too sweet! So, I drug my husband all over town in search of different protein supplements/shakes. I found several samples and sample packs, one a lady suggested at GNC was NEW WHEY liquid protein. 3.8 ozs. 180 calories, 0 Sugar, 42g protein, Sodium 100 mg, Potassium 50mg. Does anyone know if this an acceptable form of protein for me to be taking? Thanks!

So many people complain that they don't like protein shakes but i just love them so much. I really do lol. Especially chocolate spirulina. I can't believe something so delicious is healthy! Its just like having a smoothie . maybe you guys don't like the incontinence ? but i have this blender bottle thing with a little whisk ball inside that mixes the drink for you really nicely and is easy to clean so you guys should try that. Seriously though how can you not like protein shakes!

Lots of great information in this WebMD slide show. There is a considerable (and growing) amount of research being done on the benefits of Vitamin D including protection from some cancers, disease fighting properties, bone health, heart disease, muscle strength and more. Harvard is in the process of a study involving more than 20,000 subjects and has a wealth of information on this important and often under-rated vitamin. http://www.webmd.com/food-recipes/ss/slideshow-vitamin-d-overview?ecd=wnl_hbn_071612

Hi all, can anyone recommend a gummy vitamin that has iron in it? As well as all the vitamins you would find in a multi vitamin. Currently I take vita fusion , it has 200% vitamin d which I need, but no iron or zinc. I was told my zinc was a little low in my pre op bloodwork. I'm trying to find that all in one! Thanks

Although i am just a little over 7 months out, I still drink at least one rtd protein shake a day with at least 23g of protein. I could never stand the powdered ones, so didn't even try. At first I liked the Premier ones from Costco, but had to buy too many at a time so got burnt out! Then tried Muscle Milk Light flavors, but tasted way to sweet for me. After that tried chocolate Pure Protein, which I still like. Yesterday I went to Vitamnin Shoppe to get some Oh Yeah Bars (to die for!) and I noticed they had some Oh yeah RTD drinks. I bought a couple of flavors just to try. I just had the Cookie and Cream. OMG it is good and has 32g of protein and only 3g of carb…

On Day 8 of 14 pre-op, using Bari-Essentials 4 per day with skim milk. I am drinking at LEAST 48 ounces of water in addition to the 32 ounces with the shakes, but my mouth feels thirsty most of the time. My skin tone seems correct, my urine is not darker than normal and frequency seems the same, so I don't THINK I'm dehydrated. It's not unbearable, but curious anyway. Anyone else experience anything like this?
