FYI . . . I was downloading coupons at coupons.com and noticed a coupon offer for $5.00 off one bottle of OptiSource Chewable Vitamin & Mineral Supplements at Walgreens. I haven't tried this brand and can offer absolutely no opinion on the taste, value, etc. Just throwin' the info out there.

7th day post op. When I eat anything thicker than a protein milk shake, like cream of mushroom soup, it kinda hurts in my stomach, a sharp kinda pain. Goes away within seconds. But happens with every attempt. Have tried taking much smaller bites, and go slower, and it doesn't help. Could this possibly mean that I should stay at thinner consistency foods and try again tomorrow? That I'm just not ready yet?

I drink Body Fortress Whey Isolate. Every time I drink it, I get horrible stomach cramping and diarrhea about 30 minutes to 1 hour later. But, I've been living with it just to make sure I get my protein in. I can still eat other dairy product just fine. Anyway, I'm tired of it so I'm thinking about switching to soy protein. Is there a difference taste wise? Or are there different types of protein shakes that are lactose free?

I'm close to three weeks post-op and just got back from my first post-op meeting with my nutritionist. She is adamantly against Protein shakes because she feels that it encourages people to stay in the liquid stage rather than begin eating regularly, even though I told her that I'm eating soft foods and enjoying them and have no intention of going back to liquids - rather, I just want to supplement so I get in enough protein. Anyway, I've decided to ignore her on this issue because I really am concerned about the protein, not to mention that I'm getting in very few calories from eating (she commented that I had a much higher than normal weight loss for someone my weight).…

Has any one tried these? Do you like them? I somehow bought them through amazon and thought I had deleted them, but I still received them in the mail. So I thought I might try them. I hope I can get some good feedback about them. If they are not so good, I will return them to the sender. Thanks everyone!

This is my first time posting here but I have browsed this forum SEVERAL times when I had questions so I am very grateful to everyone for being so open and honest about their experiences. I am 5 weeks post-op as of today and I am STILL having trouble getting in my 70 - 80g of Protein. I have tried different powders, different shake recipes, I can't do it! My stomach feels SO full with it, maybe I am just trying to drink it too fast. How long does it normally take you to drink 8oz of milk mixed with Protein powder? I've seen some people post about Isopure, some good some bad, but at this point I am willing to try anything. I've been doing really well with the surge…

I am one month out from surgery and looking for a good Multivitamin capsule with Iron? My nutritionist says I could save on carbs by not doing the Celebrate chewables, but that it's important that I use a capsule, not a tablet. Also, I need to introduce some iron, but not as a separate pill or chewable. Does anyone have any recommendations? Seems like every store I go to have gummies (=carbs) or the big honking tablets that I only picture hurting when swallowing. Not opposed to liquid, but prefer the travel-ability of capsules. THANK YOU!

I know we are not supposed to take iron and calcium together; so should I take my multivitamin that has 18 mg of iron first, and then 2 hours later the calcium citrate? Another thing is it that the iron does not let the calcium get absorbed right, or the other way around? And how much iron is too much iron? My multivitamin has 18 mg and I take it twice, so that's 36 mg of Ferrous Fumarate , and I have a liquid one too that has 4.84 g (thats g not mg) of ammonium iron citrate, so should I take the liquid one too or not? I am so confused!

My Nut handed out some samples of various chewable Vitamins (Bariatric Advantage, Celebrate) and I am finding them to be awful, chalky and make me feel a little queasy - and I am still pre-op! I have been using the liquid Vitamin from costco - reViva. The thing I like about the liquid is i can swallow it and get it out of my mouth quickly. I just found out they have a liquid Calcium citrate too! Alot of my favorite chewable calciums are calcuim carbonate so i have been apparently taking the wrong calcuim all these years. I love the gummy vitamins from Costco too, but I think that the reViva is a more complete vitamin. Anyway, I am going to brave the liquid calcium …

Has anyone took a month regemin of Probiotics to get everything "going" again after a slow thick liquids/soup to mushie transition? I was just thinking with the antibiotics I had just before the surgery, and the IV maybe I should help things along. I will do research on it - I really try to do research on just about everything, but I am so busy with school and work right now! Grrrr. Anyway, any info anyone can provide info on if they did this and any advice that was given at the time? Thank yo uin advance.

I am pre-op and just gathering information. I have been wondering something. Why do so many people use the chewable vitamins instead of liquid vitamins. Is it because your surgeons reccommended it and feel this is the best option? Is it because your new stomach can't tolerate the liquid vitamin? I would think the liquid form would be easier going down. Could someone shed some light on this? Thanks!

I've tried two different kinds, of protein powder, so far and can't stand either one because I don't like sweet or milk. I need to find one I can consume every day, due to only being able to eat small amounts and not being able to reach my protein goals. I am supposed to get 60-70gm per day, I sometimes make it to 50. I've tried 2 protein powders, one is vanilla Body Fortress Super Advanced Whey Isolate that is sickly sweet!! The other is Designer Whey unflavored and tastes like sour milk. I like the idea of unflavored as I can vary it by what I mix it with and don't need to spend alot of money on different flavors. I've seen some recommendations for Isopure Zero carb u…

Human chorionic gonadotropin or human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) is a glycoprotein hormone produced during pregnancy that is made by the developing embryo after conception and later by the syncytiotrophoblast (part of the placenta).[1][2] Some cancerous tumors produce this hormone; therefore, elevated levels measured when the patient is not pregnant can lead to a cancer diagnosis. However, it is not known whether this production is a contributing cause or an effect of tumorigenesis. The pituitary analog of hCG, known as luteinizing hormone (LH), is produced in the pituitary gland of males and females of all ages.[1][3] As of December 6, 2011, the FDA has prohibited the…

At home I use a tiny blender to make my protein shakes. I would like something "for the road" that I can just shake it up, but the old kind of shaker I had was lousy (red lid with a tiny cap that comes off). The lid used to blow off when I'd shake the stuff up. What's out there, and where do I find it? Thanks for suggestions....

My father seems to have a mild issue with hoarding. He loves to buy things in bulk when they are on sale. Several years ago he bought two 5lb tubs of chocolate whey Protein powder. It has taken him all of these years to get through one tub. There is still one tub left but looking at the expiration, it expired in February 2011. Don't remember if it said "best by" or "use by". I am scheduled for the sleeve on March 30, 2012. I have ordered powders and am getting everything arranged for my post-op diet. Do you guys think it would be okay to use the expired Protein Powder? Are the dates just a guideline for the freshest taste or does something gnarly happen after its past …

So, I made a silly random comment about my premier Protein shake on twitter, and had a person come back to me kind of off topic from what I posted to tell me that I shouldn't be relying on Premier Protein drinks as a protein source because its not 100% hydrolyzed whey protein so isn't absorbed well. Not sure if this person is a rep for proto whey or what, but of course it rattles me to hear that a protein source I'm relying on may not be the best. This particular one was recommended whole heartedly by my NUT as a good choice and she confirmed it this week. So what is the deal? I know she told me that I shouldn't use the protein bullets because the collagen form of …

Before vsg I would NEVER I repeat NEVER take my vitamins. I now take vitafusion multivites and vitafusion calcium (they are sooo delicious) I have to hide them from my husband and daughter. In addition to these I take centrum chewables because it has more iron. I asked my doc if I was taking to much and he said too many vitamins can't hurt so every chance I get I treat myself with a calcium gummy trying not to exceed 5 in a day. I drink lots of water to keep from getting gall stones. Has anyone else fallen in love with vitamins? If so, what kind do you take?

I will be having my surgery around the first of April so I really wanted to take some Iron before then just for good measure. Any recommendation would be greatly appreciated!

Okay, so I could not stomach protein shakes after surgery. I became lactose intolerant early on and even the lactose free muscle milk cramped my stomach and gave me diahrea. I bought Unjury unflavored to try to hide it in yogurt and such.. .No luck. I hated everything I tried and wasted a lot of money. FINALLLLY... today I found an answer that is working for me. Orange Juice! I had bought some heartwise OJ to help lower my cholesterol and didnt want to waste it so I put a half scoop in a half cup. I had to put it in the blender to mix it smooth but it was good! NO taste. So I added the other half of each to make a whole cup and blended that. It got a little froth…

My surgeon's office has a partnership with Bariatric Advantage and they MAKE you buy a 90 day supply of the Vitamins before they'll do surgery on you. But the problem is, I can't tolerate them, because they are mostly chewables and they make me throw up. (NOTHING else so far has done so--I can even take small pills with no problem already.) I have found stuff to approximate the amounts of the different items, that I CAN tolerate (gummy vitamins, etc.) So, I have a 90 day supply, minus one or two, of all of these vitamins. And I don't want them to go to waste! I know there are lots of people spending lots of money on vitamins, and I want to save you money, so would an…

I'm looking for ideas on clear liquid Protein drinks for the first couple of weeks post-op. Doc said it has to be in whey protein isolate form. Tried Pro-stat and a couple of the protein shots and they are horrible. I kept wondering why people on the forum kept complaining about not being able to get their protein in--now I understand. I don't know how I'd get that down with bouts of post-op nausea. I just tried Protein2GO drink mix and it was waaaay better. I'm just not sure whether it's considered a clear liquid since it's sort of milky and not exaclty clear. And it's only 10g of protein in a serving. Oh, and what's the best-tasting Isopure? How are these Protein shots? I am just browsing and starting to look for Protein drinks in anticipation of my surgery next month and I saw these two. I am not a Protein drink drinker. Even in my Clear liquid phases I drank Instant Breakfast. Couldn't stomach the thought of a Protein shake. (doing Optifast 20 years ago made me nauseas just thinking of protein shakes) BUT-I was at costco today and they were sampling both the chocolate and vanilla Premier canned protein drinks- 30 grams of protein, about 180 calories, 1 gr sugar $24 for 18 cans. I was actually able to swallow it! Both flavors! Didn't notice any protein aftertaste. The vanilla had a faint coconut flavor-but it was nice. If I had to do Protein shakes ever again I would definitly go with these. And with Costco, if you buy the case, try one and don't …

Can anyone tell me if Syntha 6 is a good protein to use for the post op diet? My husband uses it for muscle building and it tastes REALLY good (which I hear is an issue with many powders), and he did a lot of research on it, but like I said, that was for muscle building primarily. I'm not sure what to look for in a protein powder when it comes to sleeve success.

My nut. said i could take a Flintstones complete a day plus Calcium and b12. I asked about Iron and she said no need. So I'm wondering if that's because there's iron in the Flintstones? It's 18 mg. BUT there's also calcium in them and I though they weren't supposed to be taken together. Is it because the calcium is so little or what? It's 100 mg. of elemental calcium (whatever that is.) I'm also having a hard time getting in my calcium citrate chewables. They are horrible. I've tried the Celebrate ones in different flavors. Yuck! Are there any that actually taste decent? When can I start swallowing Citracal Petites?

I was speaking with one of my friends that gastric bypass and she said that someone in her support group said that one should only consume like 30 grams of Protein in one sitting because the body will not absorb it. I know I wouldn't be able to have that much in one sitting, post-op. But since I have to get 60-80 grams in a day, I thought that an Isopure (40 grams protein, zero carb) and a shake spread over a whole day would be okay. Does anyone know about this?

I was just sleeved on Thursday. I stressed about getting in enough protein, calories, and water ....like everyone else. I have found that if I pre-mix all my protein drinks in the AM - that I don't spend the day calculating and hurrying to fit in all my required intake. I also reduce the amount of water that I add by at least half. It doesn't seem like a chore to finish it, and I still can get in all the water that I need. Lucky for me, I don't mind having the same thing allllll day long. I may throw in a tomato soup or chocolate shake for an evening treat. It's working for me so far. : )
