So... I never thought I could do it...but I am at the one week point of my two week liquid Protein fast. It *has* been hard - particularly on weekends... but I know were I to cheat, it would be all blown. I am very much an all or nothing person. The toughest part was last night - I tried a new flavor Protein powder with almond milk. N.A.S.T.Y. And, to add to that, my husband was frying pork chops for him and my sons. So, I was a LITTLE cranky last night! Saturday night, I was watching tv and heard my stomach rumbling REALLY loud...then, I realized it was my beagle snoring, so I felt better. ) Surgery is Monday, Oct 22...this too shall pass!

Ok so I'm on my purée phase this week and I have boiled eggs, boiled 2 sweet potatoes and peeled them And boiled 3 sm chicken breasts. This should last me quite a while but my question is what are some ideas for these 3 items? Any quick throw together recipes? I thought pre making some things would help in measuring my food intake. Thanks a bunch!

I'm hitting my 5 month mark on sept 27 and I've lost total of 48 pounds I know right not much.. I just realized what I've been doing wrong. I had a hard time finding a good protein shake so I found one I loved it has no flavor it's Soy protein and it has 110 calories I believe. I knew it was high calories but I figured that's all I was really able to enjoy it was ok but now I realize its not.. So I start the Optifast diet in just a few days and I am not looking forward to it at all. I heard it does not taste very good and you feel lousy while on it. Surgery is on 10/29 so I know I have to drink it but I don't want to. Since I only have about a week of normal eating left, I have to admit I am eating everything I can get my hands onto.

I am exactly 2 weeks post op today. When I left the hospital they gave me instructions to sip and take about 15 minutes to drink 1 oz. That was easy when I got home because it was hard to even drink that much. However 2 weeks out I can easily drink 8-12 oz in an hour. Is this too much too soon?

I am having my surgery in November in Nashville at Vanderbilt. I only have to fast 24 hours before surgery. Has anyone else fasted this way before their surgery?
-
I haven't cheated, but I'm worried I'm eating too much. I can have unlimited amount of non starch vegetables. But I feel I'm taking the word"unlimited"too far. I obviously have portion control issues, that's why I'm getting the surgery. I'm assuming they know that when they gave me the instructions. I Just want my liver to shrink and to lose some weight to help my chances. Everybody has such different pre op diets, and most are all liquid.

Hello All, I'm currently in the process of meeting with surgeons to discuss surgery and what needs to be done before I get my date. I have gone to the classes and on Thursday I'm meeting with the surgeon and then I guess psychologist and nutritionist from what I was told all in the same day. The last class that I went to I was handed the book with information on all the types of surgery's I have decided to do the sleeve and feel very committed to doing this change I have two kids 4 & 2 and I want to be able to run and play with them without running out of breath... I wanted to share with you the information I got becaue I know some people are confused on what to eat and not eat at what time and how much and all that good stuff especially if you got your surgery done in MX. I had a friend get it done in MX and they don't really give you a whole lot of info it any info at all so I have attached all the paperwork I got. Let me know if it helped! I had my consultation with my Dr yesterday and told me that I didn't have to go on a pre-op diet. He only asked that I have no food or drink after 10pm the night before my surgery. I don't know if I should feel lucky or concerned. Every bit of research I have done on this procedure says that I go on a 2 week liquid diet before surgery. The Dr. also said that he has done enough of these that he doesn't ask his patients to do the diet. What’s your opinion?

Had my sleeve surgery Friday the 28th. I got out of the hospital Saturday with a clear liquid diet. Today is the first day I'm hungry! Clear liquid only I've had smart water and chicken bullion so now what?

because there's so much variation in our surgeons post op diets I thought I'd see what everyone else is doing post op day 7-14.. I am post op day 7 and basically still doing lots of Clear liquids with some full liquids thrown in.. one or two Protein shakes a day.. getting in about 60-70 oz Water (if you include all the broth lol) taking my chewable multivit and feeling good!

Which do you use? I can't completely go without, so I just have a smear of margarine: http://www.nuttelex.com.au/products/nuttelex-lite/ on my toast. I alternate between that and cream cheese or avocado. Depends on what my other toppings are.

I feel bad posting this because I know the majority of the people on her have 1-2 week liquid pre-op diets and I cannot even imagine the difficulty, so I feel like a whiner but.. I was so excited about finally making my decision for surgery and living on the boards for awhile. I had first consult with surgeon and he say start no sugar, no salt, no soda, low carb diet. I was doing well the first week but then found out that the under 100 grams of carbs is not really low carb and I need to be under 50. So I dropped to less than 50 and by day 4 I was sick, I had to leave my grandson's sports game, I almost fainted at the grocery store and I ended up spending a day in…

It's amazing to me how different everyone's pre-op diets are. It really makes me wonder if anyone really knows when we should be doing what! I'm a revision and my dr. wants me on liquids for two weeks then full liquids for another two then moving to puree's/mushies etc... I am so sick of drinking I can't wait to eat yogurt or pudding. I don't want to get dehydrated but am already loosing interest in everything there is to drink. what is everyone on on liquids "eating"??

Let me tell you guys having trouble with your protein shakes that these syrups are a godsend!! I am still pre op, but I add 2 tablespoons to my protein powder & whatever mixing liquid I'm using, and usually one other flavoring item (fruit, PB2, etc) and so far they are a breeze to get down! My favorite so far is peanut butter & banana, but I made a chocolate English toffee that was pretty yummy and fruity slushy-type using cherry & pineapple syrup with strawberry protein powder and some frozen raspberries - delish! They have been a huge help for me pre op!

Has anyone else ever heard of person who has had a gastric bypass suffer from nerve damage to their legs below the knee following successful surgery? I suffer from lack of touch sensation in my legs, below the knee, and feet as well as foot drop (similar to paralysis of the foot) but then at the same time suffer from constant and extreme burning sensation in the legs that gets more intense and stronger the more stressed and upset I get. I have recently seen an article that has associated this condition with gastric bypass surgery and it was only after I read the article that I put 2+2 together and realised that it was true that the nerve damage and lack of sensation d…

I feel so bad kinda...I am on my third day of pre-op diet...can only drink Protein drink and Water for 2 weeks...I am so hungry and grumpy it is unbelievable.....my poor husband has been trying so hard to support me during this difficult time and even though my intentions are good. ( I really appreciate his loving concern ) However, he just has to look at me sideways and I lose it. Then I cry because I lose it...he tells me not to worry..he understands.....but last night we were getting along good, doing some chores around the house together and every few minutes I ended up yelling at him or spitting off....He would just look at me and then I would realize what I just did…

I had my surgery on Friday September 14th in Mexico.. came home with a post op diet that doesn't mention protein much LOL anyway I've noticed that post op diets vary incredibly from one surgeon to the next and I'm wondering if any of y'all were allowed full liquids (protein shakes) in the first week after surgery? I'm still doing clear liquids as suggested on MY doctor's paperwork.. thanks!

Hi Wonderful Sleevers; I keep reading 'Don't graze!!'. Heck, if I don't graze I don't get my Protein & liquid in. I'm on full foods now and it takes me a good 45 minites to eat, or about an hour to finish a Protein Drink. If I don't eat or drink every few hours, I don't get my quota in. And I really prefer to be eating, not drinking, most of my protein. So can someone please explain what grazing truly means? Thanks!!

I will be spending the next week in London at the Holiday Inn Mayfair. I am 10 weeks post-op so I can eat almost anything, but I have managed to become a bit lactose intolerant so I have had to give up on most Protein shakes and rely upon real food. (Protein shakes were difficult to travel with anyway). I could use some tips on local sources of Protein that I can pick up while I am in town. Are there any brands of Jerky, greek yogurt, or other foods I should look for? I am also interested in restaurants and such as sushi bars, tapas, and such where I can get some good protein without too much fuss. Finally I would appreciate ny tips you might have about ea…

Due to life's stresses and work stresses, I find that my eating habits are not like they use to be 6-8 months ago. I need to know from others what did you do to get back on track with your eating again? I am pretty much just doing what ever. I know that I need to start back exercising and will do so on Monday. However, I need to know what you did to bring yourself back to the proper eating. Thank you so much for your help.
