Apologies for the descriptive title. After a long day of being jostled at an obscenely crowded outlet maxi-mall my relatives and I settled down for a nice meal at P.F. Chang's. I made the unwise decision to see if my aversion to szechuan was still operational after 11 months out. "It's still here", was the reply from "The Bouncer" as he directed me to the bathroom to unload the contents of my experiment. Try again next year? Probably. I love szechuan.

Im 13dys post op and ate some creme of wheat with some butter and sugar yesterday. After eating like 2oz, I got stuck (at least I think I did) My creme of wheat was very runny. I even had to stir it just to get another spoonful. Well, I started feeling the chest pain and was trying my best to burp for about ten minutes, then my mouth began to water, then off to the bathroom and I threw up. But whats weird I didnt throw up creme of wheat. I threw up a clear liquid. Gosh it even came out of my nose. (Sorry). Is that what is called the "slimies?" Im still not quit sure why it happened. I guess im just not ready for it? I dont understand how ive could of gotten…

I am 4 days post op and can't remember for how long am I suppose to be on clear liquids. I was on clear liquids 5 days before surgery, so it's been 9 days so far. I don't plan on progressing till I get clearance from doc but just wondering, for how long are your stages after surgery and what were they?

Has anyone ever used or heard of omnifast? I have to be on 4 weeks of liquid meals (3 a day) prior to surgery and that is the name of the supplement I have to purchase from the bariatric clinic. I was wondering about cost and taste/flavors. Also, I have a flex health spending account through my employer that I think will pay for the omnifast as it is required for surgery, although I suspect it will require a medical necessity letter from my dr.

I finally get to eat and we are stuck on the road! Two gas stations have subway - get broccoli and cheddar soup. Nope - they were out right before I got there! Pulled off and stopped at a Subway in town- no soup! Gonna keep trying. I am scared to try anything but what is on my diet since I have to drive on bad roads and don't want to be in pain!

  14. Started by Benthere,

I am scheduled to be sleeved on 12/28 , I just got my date last Thurday. At my preop MD appt I asked my doctor about sticking to the preop diet (which he only requires for a week) and he told me to do my best and enjoy my Christmas meal with my family. Well now I feel guilty, like I went overboard. I have been on Protein shakes since last Friday and today I had 2 regular meals. I dont know I just feel like I ruined my preop diet.........

  15. Started by smithpy,

I want to minimize the junk food in our house and help my kids make healthier choices, but I am at a loss for what to keep in the house for the kids. I generally pack them a sandwhich, juice, fruit and chips for lunch. After school they have a bag of chips. So I did buy Cheez-Its and Goldfish instead of chips, but I am not sure if that's any healthier. Plus, I am doing my very best to now go and grab a handful of crackers. Anyone else having luck with their kids. Keep in mind, one of mine is a teenager so it's not an easy transition.

  16. Oh. My. God. I think I've ruined everything. I wanted to chew something so bad, so I ate a piece of whole wheat toast. I feel like I'm going to die. Did I just ruin everything?

Is it safe to take post op? I have to family members who have had gastric bypass several years ago and they said for the first month, their doc required they take it. Anyone with the sleeve try it? Oh and another question if I may, as I said their wls surgery was several years ago and they are able to eat pretty much everything. I know the question on the sleeved stomach being stretched has been thrown around, but I wonder if the way they can now eat will be similar to me in the future?

Hi all, I am usually pretty positive about my diet and have been doing okay-my biggest problem is honestly getting calories in. I am starting to get a bit concerned as I think I am developing an aversion to eating. It has been a month since my surgery, and I have had the flu, then bronchitis, so not feeling the greatest. But along the way, my calorie intake dropped-and I can't seem to bring myself to "eat". I have been tracking my calories on MFP closely, mostly to make sure that I am getting enough Protein in. Basically I have gone from getting 500-600 calories a day to about 300-400. I cannot seem to eat-just now I had two bites of mashed turkey, a bite of mashed po…

Has anyone experienced an out of control response to making the decision to have the surgery? Of course this time of year is not helping, sugar everywhere, carbs everywhere and I just don't seem to have any control. I have got to break this cycle. The surgery cannot be scheduled until April, Medicare rules. Any suggestions in getting a control over my eating in these three months.I know it is emotional eating. Those that had to do classes for three months, did they help you get a handle on eating and prepare you well for the surgery? Thanks.

I work in the medical field & unable to have my water sitting next to me to be sipping on all day per medical governing rules. Has anyone else come across similar situations at work? Just wondering how you get the fluids in without constantly sipping all day. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Out of curiosity. When you first started solids after surgery did you teeth hurt when you chewed? Like they got weak? I have been on the liquid diet since nov 28- 1 week before and now after. I have heard of people complaining about their teeth so I am just wondering if it happened to anyone? And if so did it get better?

Hi! This is my first post on here. I have been lurking for months. I had my VSG surgery last Monday, Nov. 26th. I was on a clear liquid diet for 5 days, and will be on full liquids for days 6-14. I started full liquids yesterday, and had my Protein shake first thing yesteray morning. Poured myself 4 oz. and drank it with no problem. So, I started on the other 4 oz. and about 3 sips in, I was so nauseated I had to lie down. After about 2 hours I was able to finish the rest, but then I had a really hard time getting my Water in for the rest of the day. I just felt so full and after a few sips of water my chest would start to hurt. So, the most water I was able to get in was…

  25. So, today is three weeks post op... I was told to call today for my new, advanced diet... I called and got voicemail. Augghhh! So, being on my fifth week of liquid protein, and SICK of the shakes, I took it upon myself to make a one egg omelette with ground turkey sausage. I ate a smidge over half... And began feeling bad... Chest pain, stomach pain, felt hot all over... And then I threw up. I hope this does not mean my body is not ready for soft food! Perhaps I ate either too much or too fast? God, am I sick of protein shakes!

I really want some sauteed spinach! I'm six weeks out. No nutritionist and had surgery in Mexico. When is it safe to eat cooked greens like kale and spinach? Also, I really want a fish or shrimp taco! What about corn tortillas? (I'm making my grocery list haha). I really don't want to eat low carb. It's never been successful for me and I don't feel good or normal without carbs. When did everyone start adding carbs back into your diet? I know white flour, rice, Pasta is no bueno. I started the habit of eating whole grains before surgery.

Can you do protein shots on pre-op diet? Can you put creamer in your coffee?

  33. Started by alley-gator,

Hello all! I am being sleeved on Dec 20. On day 4 of preop diet and am not loving the protein shake thing (like anyone does) but I ordered a bunch of different kinds to try, including the nectar sample pack. What I am wondering, is how do you all make your shakes? I've got plenty of flavors to play with, sugar free torani, truvia...what really gets me is the foam. So far I've just been blending them. I thought the nectar might be better than the creamy kind because it goes in water and is fruity instead...so any ideas? How do you stop the foam? If I just throw the foam away am I throwing away plus of the protein too, or is the foam just air and not much protein? Help!

Surgery is Monday and I have yet to find one I can stomach. Tried pure protein from Costco, syntha 6, too sweet, muscle milk light. Is isopure a good one? And what about the unflavored unjury powder to put in broth etc, I'm getting nervous I won't find anything!

I would like to know how far out before you could tolerate bread or the low carb tortilla or flat bread. I can't ask my doctor because he will tell me when I should not when I could. Trust me I understand the "shoulds" or rather the "should nots" and the need to use my tool to its fullest for these first 6 months but still I want to know when I can eat the above. thanks in advance!

Well, I did it, my first week of full liquids. I was nervous that I would cheat, but honestly, I did well. I lost 5 pounds in 6 days. Yeah, I wish it had been more, but I'll take what I can get. Today, is Clear Liquids. I made red Jello, does that count as a clear liquid? Anyway, I'm not as nervous as I thought I would be. I did all the research, read most forums on this site, seen the good, bad, and ugly. I am stronger than I thought. Emotions? Running thru the gammit. On Wednesday, I was thinking, 'what have I gotten myself into?'; almost considered cancelling the surgery. So glad I didn't. Today, I am going to a boat parade (I live in SW Florida). The…

There seems to be so many different variations of pre & post-op diets out there that I am getting as little confused. I am now a week out of surgery. I only stayed in the hospital overnight. The instructions I was sent home with said clear liquids until yesterday. As of yesterday my sheet just says 3 protein shakes a day plus 64 oz of water. I am getting nowhere near that. Yesterday I got in one shake & 48 oz water. My stomach just couldn't handle anymore. I don't have any guidelines as to how much protein that I should be getting in a day. My post-op appointment isn't until Thursday which is 10 days after my surgery. Maybe they will tell me more then? I see peopl…

  48. Started by Dee-Texas,

I've searched and can't find my answer so I'm asking WHY? Why do the doctors require two weeks of nothing but fluids? Is this to look good for the weight loss after surgery? I'm in the possible revision boat right now...questioning everything and wondering if I just tried harder if this band would work!!! Loss of money, time at work, pain, starting all over..just makes me very sad. Banded in 2007..lost 75 lbs..needed to lose 120..gained 20lbs back since knee surgery and a problem with the band?...at least I'm having tests to see if the band is a failure or it's me.

  50. My doc says I should eat 70 grams of Protein and less than 30 grams of carbs each day. But not to worry about calories. Do you count protein grams? Carbohydrates? Calories? None of the above? Today marks my sixth week post op... I weigh myself on Mondays and today I am UP 2lbs. I am trying not to get discouraged... but it seems as though everyone does it differently... I know that last week I ate more than 30 grams of carbs a couple of days, but my caloric intake total was still around 650 calories... would this account for the weight gain?
