So friends I just finished my last nutrition visit on Monday, I had to do total of six once a month 30 days apart. Now I'm playing the waiting game and just want the day to come. I did get to go to my first support group Tuesday and it was really great to be around people that understood me. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk

I have heard from several people that you can't digest raw vegetables after gastric surgery like you used to. I am hoping that does not apply to Sleevers. Does anyone know for sure?

OK, I've been trying this app called "Shopwell". It is awesome!! It allows you to customize what you want in your diet, then as you shop you can scan an items barcode and the app will give you a score as to how well that product fits into your diet. Best of all it's FREE!!!!

So I was told to never drink diet soda again. At first I thought that would be no big deal but as it turns out I would like one now and again. So, can anybody tell me what the problem is with drinking some diet soda once in awhile? Someone told me that carbonated beverages of any kind are not allowed....and it was because it can stretch your stomach??!! Hmm..... I had surgery in Mexico and do not have a NUT...so if anybody can shed some light on this I would sure appreciate it. Thanks!

I thought my stomach just didn't like the boost chocolate protein drink, so I switched and bought the eas advantage chocolate and strawberry cream to replace it. I tolerated the strawberry fine although I didn't like it very much, so I tried the chocolate one and i was sick as a dog. I didn't throw up but I had the worst feelings in my stomach and the feeling of having to have a bowel movement. (Sorry if this is tmi) but after having a small bm and laid down for 5mins I felt fine I felt better

I'm pre-op but wondering....how did you all handle preparing meals for your family's during the first months after surgery? Was it an emotional ordeal? With no appetite , was it just no big deal? And what about family get togethers before you were eating again, did you feel left out or sad? I appreciate your responses. Thanks.

What did everybody eat today? I'm 6 weeks post op and running out of ideas. Breakfast: 250ml water and a nexium tablet Morning tea: decaf skim latte 250ml Lunch: 1/2 a toasted egg and cheese sandwich on brown bread Afternoon tea: nothing, was still full from lunch Dinner: other 1/2 of the toasted sandwich from lunch I sip water all day and probably get about 1 to 1.5 litres a day, I just cannot fit much food at all. I was really bad today and didn't have a protein shake, which I normally do, but was too full from the sandwich.

So I went to added my nutritionist yesterday and I have lost 44lbs since surgery and 74lbs all together, I am 3 months PO. So we were going over what I eat in a day and she said that I am not eating enough, I told her I can't I feel full after just eating a little and it is hard to eat, she said I should be eating between 1/4-1/2 cups and be eating almost 50 grams of Protein and between 800-1000 calories. How many out there are having trouble getting all their Proteins and calories in. Surgery date June 15, 2012

I'm 3 months out and this weekend while thirsting to death from all the yard work I was doing out in the heat I noticed that I do not HAVE TO sip sip sip anymore. I was basically drinking water like I would have before surgery....big swallows AMD not so slowly. Is this a problem???! It made me a little nervous because I was under the impression I would be "sipping" forever.

Any nurses that work busy 12 hour shifts? How do you get all your water in especially when we can't chug-a-lug? What about lunch breaks, how do you do on those? Are you able to eat at a decent pace without getting into trouble? How do you schedule your vitamins/supplements?

Okay - I will be honest. The biggest thing that scares the hell out of me for surgery is the thought of liquid hell. I will have two days pre-op liquid-hell then weeks post op. I guess this is more of a gripe than anything, mainly because I loathed it when I banded. I'm planning on doing broths, sugar-free Jello, sugar-free popcicles...anyone have any suggestions? I know how serious this stage is for healing...I mentally am trying to prepare myself and keep from getting bored as well.

I found an easy way to make a lobster bisque that is so flavorful. It is perfect for the preop and liquid postop diets. You go out and buy a high quality lobster bouillon. I found one at a specialty Italian import store, but you may get lucky with the regular grocery stores. Heat up 1 cup of water until boiling in the microwave and add protein tomato soup. The protein tomato soup in individual packets from bariatric pantry are good. Now dissolve in a tablespoon of lobster bouillon. Be careful about how much bouillon you mix in because this stuff is potent and fairly high in sodium. If you drink this in moderation, the sodium intake should be ok. You now have a very yumm…

Have others had success with fiber one muffins or do these have to many calories/ carbs in them. I am not sure if these are considered a bread and we should not have them. I used to really like these before surgery and they help with fiber intake. For that matter, I can say the same thing about fiber one cereal. I used to religiously eat this cereal every day for years. Too bad I did not buy stock in it! LOL!

I've been on my pre-op diet for a whole two days now, and the big challenge seems to be planning and timing my "meals". I want to have a plan in place before I get back to eating "real" food. Any tips/strategies/worksheets to share?

So I thought I would try mixing a scoop of flavored protein powder with 16 oz water and a cherry lineage flavor packet (crystal light or something like that) and I could nit drink it...it was awful...the protein. powder changed the taste/consistency. Now I'm wondering - is this what the fruity syntrax ones taste like??? I was thinking of ordering some but not if they taste like that need I made this morning.

Normally, I would not eat at KFC. We were on the road last night and I thought "why not?" So I ordered a grilled chicken breast and a cole slaw side. After only 4 bites of chicken and 2 small bites of cole slaw, I got the worst case of slimed and throwing up feeling in my throat ever. I had to spend quite a few minutes in the bathroom and then had to do an emergency pull off the road about 20 minutes later. What gives? I eat grilled and precooked chicken all the time at home. It must have been something KFC injected the chicken with to keep it moist. Now I know KFC grilled chicken is not for me...

Ok I am having surgery some time in Jan. or early Feb. I love to cook and I cook a lot (reason i am getting surgery. lol) Any way I was thinking of starting a YouTube Channel for a post surgery cooking show. I would do a new recipe once or twice a week on healthy foods and portion sizes. I would show the recipe and cook it up to show final product. Would anyone be interested in this? Would it help anyone in any way? Thanks, John

You are suppose to drink 8 cups of Water a day (or more). I have a 25 oz bottle and it is nothing for me to fill it up at least 3 times in my 8 hrs at work. Then go exercise with another half liter...come home and can drink another 2 - 3 bottles. So tell me, can you actually drink too much water? And if so, would there be any complications because of it? If it has not dawned on you -- I love water

Cooking help needed! I made my backed mushroom chicken tonight (used healthy mushroom soup), but I did not put the normal fried onion rings on top. The chicken was not too good. I need something less fatty to put on top that has lots of flavor and crunch to replace the fried onions. Ideas?

I LOVE spicy food. The hotter the better. Is this something that I'll have to give up after the sleeve? I have Celiac disease and had to give up real bread, pasta & my favorite desserts, I have GERD so onions and pickles are OUT. I'm worried that my spices will need to go too. They are all I have left.
