  1. Started by ASKSARAH - Sleeve,

I never quire How to read a food label. I mean I understand kinda but today it hit me. I am pre op and trying to do What I would be doing with the sleeve to prepare and I was purchasing some Greek yogurt and that was easy. My daughter asked me to get sour cream for Turkey tacos. So I read that label. I normally get the full fat kind and so I looked at the label for the fat free and I was able to understand even though It's lower in fats and a slight decline in calories but there is more sugar. So I am staying away from sugar and even though It's full fat it has less sugar and in moderation It's in reality a better choice. I personally had greek yogurt as sour cream o…

I'm sure many of you saw the Dr. Oz episode with Chis Powell and his high carb/low carb days. I've read and heard alot about this and was wondering if anyone has tried it and if it seems to work. Of course our high carb days would probably still be less than the average person. I've printed out the shopping list and his recipes. I think I'll give it a try.

  6. I am not a scientist or a medical professional. I am still pre-op. I am curious about post-op experiences with sugar substitutes. Do you find yourself still craving sugary/sweet stuff? Example: when I used real sugar, I put 4 or 5 teaspoons of sugar in my iced tea. Does your tolerance for sugar substitutes change? Did your preferences for sugar substitutes change? I'm wondering if I should simply try never to use them again. The evidence about their advantages versus disadvantages seems conflicting. I don't know whom to believe. But I do believe what people in this forum say about their real-world experiences. I'm using splenda and equal on my pre-op diet.

So we all will go out to eat at one time or another. What are some tasty dishes you've found that are good for sleevers? I just went to Longhorn Steakhouse with my MIL. One of their dishes is a flat ironed steak. Get it with a salad and steamed broccoli and you can have 2+ healthy meals out of it. What do you guys recommend?

Hi guys, well the Nut at my hospital is not too familiar with VSG and they just started doing the sleeve due to new doctors, she is really good but I just dont feel that she can guide me. She gave me a lot of printed information from online and also kept calling it the gastric instead of the sleeve. Any information will help, I want to know how my weeks should go and what goes on step by step with each new week, with fluids and meals.

So I've been really working hard on getting Protein in while keeping the carbs low. However, some days I get my 90 grams of protein while my carbs are at 16, 18, 20. I should have 45 per day. Is this a problem?

I am using MFP a lot these days a lot now. Great app. I am eating less than 800 daily calories as a goal at 1 month post op. Am I on track? Do I use the calorie burned exercise credits if I am hungry or just ignore them and stay less than 800 no matter what. I do miss loosing the one pound a day this week. Thanks

I am a year out and as the time goes on I get hungry more often. I am feeling more like I did prior to surgery. I envy those people who are never hungry...wish that could have been me. I am sure some of it is head hunger, and that is the hardest to control! They are the times I crave carbs! I had thought about seeing a counseler to find out why I have an addiction to food, and maybe then I would have a better understanding and make it easier when those craving start. The surgeon fixed my stomach for eating, but unfortunately he did not fix my mind....and that is the main reason I got to where I was in the beginning. Does anyone have any helpful hints or have the s…

You might like to drink this as an alternative to other flavored drinks. It is only 5 calories and comes in a few different favors for 12 oz can. Personally, it is a little sweet/tart for me as compared to pre-op, but that is just me. Give it a try!

  22. Started by Earwood,

I've always been a coffee/espresso drinker and had to give it up obviously for a short time after surgery. I started a 3rd shift job the week after surgery and have been gradually falling back to the caffeine boost. The difference now is I only drink 1 small latte or coffee vs. the Large and or multiple cups I drank previously, however, the effects seem to be amplified now which is weird to me. Trouble sleeping, feeling jittery, etc... I've heard that the absorption with alcohol is different after surgery (feeling tipsy faster) so I'm wondering if it's the same as caffeine. Anyone heard or experienced something similar?

  31. I am one week post op and just moved to the full liquid phase. I had a DanActive drinkable yogurt for Breakfast, which I sipped and ate the entire bottle with no problem. For lunch I am trying to eat canned tomato Soup with Water. I've had a few small spoonfuls, but with each one, my stomach feels like a factory switch is turning on. Everything starts moving inside. Is this normal? Also how often should we eat/drink at this phase? Pamela

I have heard from some that you cannot eat foods that have been leftover for more than 2-3 days. Certainly if it's older than 3 days, toss it. Something about WLS giving us a lower tolerance to bacteria. Then I hear that others eat something 5 days later and they have no problems. I ate some turkey chili Tues. that I made the previous Sat. and before I could swallow the last bite I was in the bathroom barfing. I don't know if I ate too fast (I was pretty hungry that night), if I ate too much (I measure everything now), if it was too many days in the fridge, or something else.
