It is my day 6 on my pre op month long diet of Optifast. It's supposed to be getting easier! I am starving today. I had to wait for my son at church while he was in instruction and wouldn't you know they were selling hot dogs and soup. The aroma filled the enitre area. I almost died. I felt so sad today. I cried for a long time. First time I've done that without "medicating" myself with food after to "heal" my emotions. Please tell me it gets better!!!!!!

  5. Short article but it really drives home the point that obesity is a "condition" that makes us prone to having weight come back even after surgery. This is worth a few minutes to read as I suspect most of us don't quite see it this way, but what she says makes sense. Once obese, it is now a lifelong struggle to keep the weight from returning. http://5daypouchtest.blogspot.com/

Has anyone found a good article that explains why we all do high protein diets after being sleeved? My mother-in-law is curious and I wasn't 100% sure of the science behind it. Are there any good articles around that explain it well?

  7. I was sleeved 5 weeks ago today. I lost 19 pounds total since surgery, but I've been the same weight for 3 weeks now... I've noticed I've lost 7 - 8 inches overall on my body, but no weight has been lost. I feel it's due to me transitioning from liquids to "foods" .... any clue how to jumpstart some weight loss again? I'm not cheating at all.

I said I am actually hoping I get dumping from it. Weird I know... But.... I DID NOT GET IT. I am so bummed, I was hoping to have the accountability so now I have to be stead fast ind use my own will power. It seems as though my body will let me eat just about anything :-(. Buttbuttttt I did not have this surgery to throw it away on eating junk so I will stay stead fast and make the healthy choices my body needs to stay on track. They'd for letting me vent guys....

Hello all! I posted this in the Recipe Sharing but meant to post it here. I've tried every kind of Protein Shake and I cannot seem to find one that doesn't taste like a multivitamin! The flavors may taste good but the yucky bite is still there. Has anyone tried the Shakeology drinks? My friend sells them but I wanted to get some more information and opinions first. What do yall think? Its getting very frustrating for me. I know I'm not getting all my Protein in. Thanks!

I went to one of those fancy burger places for lunch today(I'm in the city for a month for training for my new job) and I know a burger place is not good but here's the thing. I ate the entire thing, nothing else. I am afraid that my sleeve has stretched. It's been 2 years since I was sleeved. Maybe it's just me but I can't go see my surgeon, I moved 4 hours away and the dietician that they had that I liked does not work there anymore or I'd call her. Any thoughts?

Week three is a bit early for a slippery slope, but that is where I have found myself. Yesterday (after several similar feeling days) I had decided that I was a failure and my old habits were back and I was helpless. All of the research, the questions, the medical tests, the planning, the operation, the recovery, the shopping for good things, all of it was not going to work for me because I was going to be one of those who didn't make it. It started with wanting something salty, so I licked some cheetoes which are in the house because my skinny boyfriend eats them. Then it was a few crackers way too early, then it was a few nibbles of something else. Very quickly I found …

It also happens to be my oldest daughters 26th birthday.. Kind of ironic.. Since that was when I went from a size 10 up to hugh & pregnant! Although getting to a size 10 wasn't from being healthy, it was binging & purging.. So, another lifetime ago, that will be in my past & time to close some doors & open new ones! Guess I'd better start on my liquid diet tomorrow, after I eliminate the wine from my kitchen.,.,! LOL (ooh.. And the bag of m&m's in my glovebox!) Lots of backtracking now to remember …

Lots of ringing in the ears. It is strange because I am pretty sure I have eaten some onions post op. maybe it was the chives, not sure. The sleeve was iffy about something.

While I'm losing weight, I understand about eating 800 calories a day. But, once I hit maintenance, shouldn't I be upping my calories to about 1,500 a day or so (if I'm exercising). My question is how do you get all those calories into your sleeve during one day. If it only holds 4-6 ounces at a time. I just got approved and trying to figure out how this works once you get to maintenance. I want to eat fruits and vegetables and they are bulky. thanks, Mary

I bought a 36 pack of string cheese and blew through it in less than a week. Which is why I usually don't buy cheese. Occasionally I give in, but I don't usually buy that much. It was on sale, and I can't resist a deal on something I want. But, I started to actually think about how bad it really was and how guilty I should feel. So, I did the math: 6 pieces of string cheese per day for 6 days. They're 50 calories each. So that's 300 "extra" calories a day, or 1800 total "extra" calories. I say "extra" because they may not all count as extra calories, depending on the day, because I may have eaten the cheese instead of something else. Before the surgery a cheat would…
