I am pre-op and wondering how long post-op will it be before I can have a salad again? I have read quite a few stories of people not tolerating lettuce and raw veggies too well post-op. How many months out is reasonable/safe?

I'm a month out and my surgeon wants my Protein intake at 100 g a day and no more than 600 calories each day. This is what I had today: Boiled egg white Protein shake (1 1/2 scoops) 2 oz lunch meat Protein shake (1 1/2 scoops) 1/3 cup cottage cheese 1 cup puréed Soup Water This was a little over 100 g protein and just under 600 calories. What's a typical day of food for you guys? I'm trying to mix things up...

  4. How's your stomach handling raw fruits and vegetables? My program recommends waiting six months before trying raw vegetables. Can't believe I'm even saying this, but I'm craving an apple and a salad. I've had a few bites of things here and there and chewed them up well, but I haven't had a whole piece of fruit or a whole salad. Thoughts?

  9. My procedure was set and cancelled several times. Several times I started full liquid diet and fell off for a few days when they got cancelled. I picked myself back up and continued with Protein shakes about 35% of the time...up to 50% of the time since May 2012. This month, I have been more broke than usual, and had planned to eat out a bit with the twins, in preparation for the pre-op diet...but I was unable to have enough money to do anything at all...we're lucky to have toilet paper and milk...truly. So, knowing my 14 day diet was here, and that I felt a real need to have that free time to relax and not worry about Protein Shakes or anything a bit...I gave myself…

Hi all! I find myself snacking a lot, so I'm sure that I am not getting enough Protein. That, and myfitnesspal tells me I'm not. I'm trying so hard, but I cannot stand the taste/smell of the whey anymore. I've tried the GNC soy powder and it's really gritty. Has anyone tried egg white powder, or know of anything that doesn't have a taste/grit? I'm using liquid egg whites now (the pasteurized ones), but there isn't enough protein in them, really. Help!

Any gluten free families out there? Our family has been talking about going gluten free and figured now is a great time because I'm already avoiding bread, Pasta, etc and school has started (we are doing it for my son's attention and my daughter's gi symptoms). Just wondering if anyone out there has tips? Any good low carb gluten free recipes that we can eat together? Thanks

Could someone please give me an idea of how much they ate (drank) at each meal post op on the liquid phase. I know what to have but not sure of the amounts. I dont realyy feel like I have any restriction but everything pretty much hurts going down. I have half a protein shake for breakfast which I add ice to and blend which fluffs up to 1 cup. I can get this down in about 10 minutes - is this too much too fast?

Also, my nurse said I should have soft veggies now so I am wondering if I chew Corn on the Cob really well if that is ok for my sleeve? Has anyone done this yet? It is picnic season and I would like to participate a little!!!

There have been confusing report on whether or not as WLS patients we can or can not have Pasta. My NUT says not for about 6months. Others have said not at all (ever!). It's a bit conflicting. I love pasta - wheat is my fave. I'm so confused Has anyone else had or heard conflicting stories on whether or not we can eat pasta....at some point?

Im just reading so much from other peoples post op diet progression, and nothing has been as extream as what my doctor is asking. Im 1week post op, and am still on Clear liquids. Here is a time line of his phases he gave to me 1-2 week (15 days) post op - clear liquid ( week 2 incorpate protien shakes and vitiams) 3-4 week - (15 days) puree foods - and he is very strick on this stage month 2-4 -(60 days) soft food month 5- finaly regular food So pretty much 5 month before regular food, just comparing to all that I've read this sounds crazy, and almost torturous! Give me your thoughts.

I am LOVING my strained cream of broccoli....hating my Protein shakes but trying to choke them down! I have 2 questions....what happens if I don't get all my protein down each day? My next thing is I can't tell yet if I'm hungry or just unsatisfied....will that ever change? What's the best way to tell the "full" feeling?

I searched some, but didn't find a whole lot on this topic. I would like to keep some Protein bars around - they are easy to take on the go for errand running, etc. Easier to eat than Protein shakes - which I happen to like - but they take forever for me to get one down because of the volume. Anyone suggest some good tasting, good for you Protein Bars? So far Ive only tried the EAS carb control one (chocolate Peanut Butter crisp) and it was okay. Im hoping something is out there that tastes a little better. This one has: 240 cal, 8g fat, 27g carbs (6g fiber), 1g sugar, 17g sugar alcohols, and 17g protein. This isn't something I want to eat daily - just something…

Hey guys! I'm not sleeved yet, but I'm wondering what the diet looks like immediately after and then long after the surgery? My family gets together twice a month for meals and to catch up and I know already if I don't eat they're all going to question me. Since they are very negative I don't want to say I'm getting WLS. One of my family members is anorexic and less than 100 lbs and no one says a word about it (I've tried...I get nowhere). Yet I'm waaaayyy judged for being fat. Guess it's more sociably acceptable to be veeerrrry skinny instead of fat. :-) Oh well. So what do you eat, and what do you say to people when they question you about your post/pre diet?

  30. So, I am only about 6 weeks out from the sleeving, and I have cheated a few times in the last few weeks. And I don't feel bad about it one bit. Cheating before the sleeve: a whole pizza...a whole 2-liter of pop...a whole pint of ice cream... Cheating after the sleeve: an extra Protein shake...3 or 4 extra pieces of 50 cal cheese...a quarter of a hamburger...a few bites of rice or potatoes... I admit, I'm rationalizing a little bit. But the difference in the before and after is pretty staggering: thousands of calories vs. hundreds of calories. AND I have found that trying a few things helps let me realize that I definitely can't eat as much as I did before, and don…

Hey guys! Do any of you know of a protein powder that does not have a flavor, that I could put in food or drinks in order to meet my protein requirements each day. I am getting sick of my protein shakes already and want to be able to find a tasteless powder or liquid that could replace it while I drink my ice tea or water throughout the day or even put it on my food. Please help if you have any ideas! I would greatly appreciate it!!! Thanks!

I am to blame, I never really took Protein shakes or Vitamins, I couldn't stomach them at all. About 2 months ago, I started feeling very dizzy and it elevated to fainting, a lot, and everywhere, I ignored it at first, then i got a stomach bug, and I was away from my country for a month, and no doctor could help me, so I was very dehydrated, which increased my fainting spells. Hello fellow Sleevers. Gotta question. I have been noticing - here on VST and personally that when people talk about being vegetarian most (and in my family too) talk about NOT eating meats. But some say they eat fish/chicken/turkey/seafood. Most, that I talked to, do not consider these things meats. Can a vegetarian explain just what makes a vegetarian? And what considered meat (other than the obvious) not considered meat? I am eating veggie burgers (Morning Star Famrs products), chicken thighs, turkey (roasted, grilled, slice (lean)), as well as eggs and soy/egg based Protein shakes (those I can tolerate).
