I have this weird sensation of feeling so full and bloated that if I were just able to burp, it would feel great. However, I get out a measly little burp out and then I feel like I'm hungry and somewhat nauseous and light headed. That feeling goes away quickly and then I feel full again. I'm on day three and have 11 days to go until surgery. Anyone else have this feeling - did Beano or GasX help for you? I need to go out and pick some up.

I am hoping to have my surgery on May 2nd. I received the typical pre-op instructions from my doctor which have a 3 days prior to surgery liquid only and laxatives diet requirement. I am a graduate student who has a 4 hour long final as well as research presentation on April 30th. I am wondering how others reacted to the change in nutrients. How was your concentration, energy level and memory during this time? Can you recommend certain liquids that will be better than others during this time? Thanks!

I'm not even going to sugar coat, I'm kind of envious of some of these pre op diets I've been reading on the forum. Some people say they only have to do a liquid 24 hrs before surgery, some are not required to do liquid at all before surgery. Some people only have to do it 2 - 3 days before surgery. But I am following my dr's instructions and actually doing pretty good with mine. I started on Feb. 18, surgery date March 4th. But I sure wish I could eat some food I really miss it and at times I'm really craving it. Now I did cheat twice last week with saltine crackers & tortilla chips. I ate a total of 9 crackers on tuesday of last week and about 20 tortilla chips th…

Got my date today (march 20), and I'm starting liquids tomorrow (3 weeks to make sure). I purchased a meal replacement powder from GNC. My question is is it 3 or 4 shakes a day?

I have been on this (horrible) liquid diet for 10 days now and 7 to go...the ONLY good about it is a 15 pound loss...otherwise I am miserable...lol..but not cheating... good luck everyone.

Doing good on pre-op diet. Only thing that's tough is that I am a home health speech therapist and I'm at their houses and I smell their cooking. I show up in the morning and they are cooking breakfast, noon and its lunch, and after 5 and its dinner. That's killing me but I'm holding strong. This is my second day of the pre-op.

I'm on my 3rd week of my pre-opt diet and I can't stop cheating. The first week was a breeze the 2nd week was a little harder and I cheated a few times. This week I haven't been able to go a day without cheating. I lost 16lbs in the first 2 weeks but that doesn't seem to motivate me. My surgery is on Tues. the 19th so I know I need to stop eating. I'm suppose to only be having skim milk 3 times a day. The only thing I think might be the cause of hunger is that I started my period today, or maybe that's just an excuse. What do you all do to stay on track?

I am supposed to be on a liquid pre-op diet prior to my sleeve surgery (which is usual). I want to make sure I follow every requirement exactly. My question is how I should handle a certain social situation. I will be attending a conference with friends from work during this diet. One of my friends knows about the surgery and supports me. The other two are friends that I am not comfortable sharing about this surgery yet. We will be together a lot for three days and will be sharing mealtimes together. What should I say about why I am only drinking liquids on these days? I don't want to lie, but I do not want to divulge more information than I am comfortable giving…

My surgery is scheduled for February 25th. I have my Preop appointment this coming Thursday and I am close to the 10 lb weight loss required prior to this pre-op appointment....so I started my liquid diet 2 days early. I know I will be where I need to be for this appointment....but this liquid diet is going to be hard. I am drinking the Atkins advantage shakes. I can have 4 per day....that means as of right now I have 62 left to drink before my surgery....I don't know if I should laugh or cry : ). I am excited about the upcoming changes in my life and look forward to what is to come. I am also nervous about my ability to stick with it. How did you deal with feeding …

Hey guys, I am currently on the Pre-op diet part of my journey. It is a very difficult task but I have to this. My surgery is on the 14th so I am wondering how this will go for the next 11 days. Today I made a hearty chicken soup with celery, potatoes and carrots I put it in the blender and had a small bowl. Is this ok? Not sure if I'm only supposed to have broth. Please let me know if I overstepped my liquid diet boundary, God I hope not cause that soup was Deeeelish

Hey all! I'm new here! I've been looking around the website for a bit trying to gather all of the information that I can find. I booked my surgery for March 8 with Dr. Aceves. I'm having revision surgery from band to sleeve. Slightly nervous but from what I have heard I'm going to be in good hands Pre-Op diet .... sucks. I have gone over every single Protein shake that I own or can find in the store and think now I'll have to just stick to whey. I have some Body by Vi left over, Reshape (something that we used to sell but its not a meal replacement), Muscle Milk, Whey (from Costco). I've always looked at labels but clearly neglected to look at Carbs! I was qui…

I'm thinking this week I might start a pre-op liquid diet. It's not required by my surgeon or insurance, but I don't want to take the chance of my surgeon postponing or canceling my surgery because I didn't lose all 20 pounds. I think I'm going to do 2 protein shakes and tomato soup for meals. For snacks I'll have SF jello, SF pudding, and apples or berries. I'm going to do it as long and as often as I can, maybe allow myself one or two full meals a week on the weekends. I still have 11 pounds to lose before the 27th. I'm nervous that I won't be able to stick with it.

Because I have been so weight loss resistant in the past, I followed a modified pre-op diet for a month. (2 shakes and then whatever I wanted for supper). I lost 11 pounds. Now I'm in the pre-op diet phase of 2 shakes and 1 meal of 4-6 ounces of protein and 1 cup of vegetables. I've lost hardly anything. I have until the 13th to lose 4 more pounds. I thought it would come off more quickly at this stage. My pre-op tests all came back very good, but if I haven't lost 15 pounds, they won't do surgery. Any ideas?????

I am on day TWO of preop liquid diet and just ate 4 skittles (my kids). What is my problem? How am I ever going to be successful post op? Will I need to be sedated for 2 weeks so as not to cheat?? I just feel deprived and sneak in a few cheats here and there, hence the reason I am overweight and never successful with dieting!

I have to brag for a moment because I did something this week never before done in my entire history! I frequently travel for business (50%+). This past Monday I flew from Southern California to Atlanta then on to Orlando before going home late Thursday night. There were lunches with colleagues, dinners with clients, more lunches with clients and colleagues, etc. I lost 1 lb! So, it's not huge, but seriously, a pound! I took Protein shakes with me for Breakfast, made the best choices possible for lunches and did duck out of one team dinner where I had a shake in my room for dinner. Another night instead of sitting at the lobby bar, which would have been what I no…

I have 17 lbs to lose before I can schedule my surgery. I've been doing atkins diet, but have plateaued and even gained a few pounds even though I'm not cheating. I used to do really well on HCG to lose about 20 bounds really quick. I get really grumpy when I'm on it though! Have any of you done this diet? Its even more restrictive than my post op diet will be. Maybe thats a good thing! That way, when my post op diet starts, I will be excited for things like milk and splenda. lol. Any thoughts?

My teenager just came into my office and ate a piece of toast and nutella. I'm afraid I bit his head off when I told him he cannot eat that around me again today. I'm emotional and pissy and fearing I can't do this. How are you or did you get through it when there's others in your home not so restricted?

Three weeks to go with a requirement to lose 11 lbs prior to surgery. Nine to go. Last two weeks are liquid only (band to sleeve conversion). I'm starting more conservatively as I have some business trips coming up, will make the best choices possible but wont be able to be 100%. Those horrible little voices make comments like "go ahead and have another last splurge, you've time." I will beat these cravings! Winning in the short term will be a mong term win.

So I am usually the first person to tell someone to sit down and get a grip on themselves when they are concerned about not losing enough weight when they are like.. 4 days post op. So I am slightly embarrassed that this is what is on my mind but here goes. I am about 300 pounds, slight less but thats the ballpark number. Today is day six of my 500 calorie liquid diet and I have only lost about 2 pounds, this is puzzling for me because I am done EVERYTHING I am supposed to be doing - its really not my nature to to blow something off, derail, and then go looking for people to hold my hand - does anyone have any thoughts about this though? I am not taking in any exces…

I don't know how I am going to do this and make these life style changes! How does everyone do this? I went through this whole long process and am now second guessing myself.....I am hungry and miserable and today was ONLY the FIRST Pre op day and I have two weeks of this plus the post op diet! I want some chocolate candy, cake and some good old carbs....a bagel with cream cheese and bacon would be nice or some cheese nachos! I find myself thinking of food constantly now and grieving all of the food I can't have! HELP! Am I kidding myself that this tool is going to be enough for me to lose the weight with my current $hitty will power or are old habits going to win?…

Hi everyone, I'm new to VSG talk and I'm grateful for forums such as these to help people along in the process... I just started my pre-op diet 2 days ago and I'm scheduled for a VSG in Tijuana, Mexico on Nov 9th. I currently weigh about 440 lbs and the surgeon and my care coordinator told me I can have 2 or 3 atkins Protein shakes a day and a salad with protein (chicken, fish, egg, etc.) with lowfat dressing, olive oil and vinegar or fat free dressing. They want me to do this for 3 weeks prior to surgery and it hasn't been easy at all. I'm not allowed to have caffeine either, which is driving me effing crazy! I've had a headache and lots of fatigue for a couple days,…

My insurance is requiring three months Physician supervised diet and currently I am just on a calorie monitoring diet. I was wondering if anyone had advice on certain things that I should start avoiding in order to make the pre-op and post-op diets easier? I have been on my pre-op liquid diet for one week and have one more week to go before my surgery date of January 11. I can hardly tolerate the protein shakes anymore, and am worried about the 4 weeks of them after surgery! Why do I feel so listless and worn out? I have been trying to think positively, having lost 11 pounds so far, but I thought by now I would be used to the shakes. I can have lettuce salads, sugar-free jello, low-sodium broth, and yogurt, which I include throughout the day, but just the thought of the shakes . . . I have to psych myself up to drink them. Any thoughts?

Getting geared up (i.e. PSYCHED UP) for the pre-op diet and I am wondering what to expect. My three main questions are: 1. How long was your pre-op diet? 2. How were you getting your calories? (All shakes, Atkins style diet, shakes & small meal combo?) 3. How much weight did you lose?

My surgeon doesn't include this in their program, but I do need to lose 20 pounds before surgery and am having trouble with it. Even taking phentermine I'm having trouble. How do these diets usually go? I was thinking of trying one to help me with losing. Is it straight liquids, full liquids, protein shakes,.....?

So I've made it to day #5 of this liquid/shake only diet. I've cheated a few times with a skinned apple or a banana, just to curve the intense pangs. But not as bad as I initially imagined. Keeping busy helps a lot. This period really brings light to how much/role food plays in my life. I've turned down 3 social gatherings where I know food/drinks would be there.... I'd rather not be tempted or go through all the explanations b/c I know everyone is going to ask 'why I'm not eating/drinking'? Oh well, just looking at the bigger picture. I sure hope all this is worth it..... How are all the Pre-Op dieters doing out there?

I'm posting bc I maybe someone has experienced the freak-out before surgery and can share perspective. I'm getting my sleeve this Friday (Dec. 21) and have been very diligent to sticking to my liquid diet. Right now I am so tired, hungry and emotional I just want to curl up in a ball and start crying. I don't understand my feelings. I should be happy, excited. These VLC liquid days have been really hard and I am very nervous that the days after my surgery will be worse - I really want to go into surgery with a positive, happy outlook, but that is hard to manage right now. Anyone have thoughts on how to turn my frown upside down? Thanks!

So this is day 5 out of 14 of my liquid diet. I also can have a light meal, 2 fruits and 1 starch although I have only had the starch once and a fruit once to try to keep the carbs down although I accidentally drank a little of my daughter's regular lemonade until I realized it was not my crystal light. I don't mind this diet at all. I don't want to do it gor the rest of my life, but it does make decisions of what to eat and self-control easier when I think about the weight I need to lose and that I do not want to mess anything up so I can't have my surgery. I am a little hungry at times but it is not that bad and does go away. It is not as bad as when I was on Weight Wat…
