I start my all liquids today. My surgery is scheduled for 10/11/17. I’m just hoping and praying I make it through this. I went for my last pre op appointment yesterday and they gave me 12 prescriptions to start before and after surgery. Also, I was told I’ll be in the hospital for one night and the next day a nurse will come to my home. My doctor is sending me home on an IV. S**t is getting real now. I’m so scared. At times I wonder if this is really my last resort at losing weight and why I have to do something so tragic. Please pray that I make it through this. So about a month and a half ago, I was given the green light for surgery provided I hit my goal weight which was around ~29lbs. I was given a 1200 cal diet to follow, super detailed and guaranteed to have me lose at least 2lbs a week which would have me hit pre-surgery goal weight in 15 weeks. I don't know if I can.... I have been having the hardest time not only getting started but staying on track. I have been having so many setbacks, so many issues with motivation and greatest of all DOUBT. In that, if I can't get on board with this simple thing will I end up having this surgery for nothing? Becoming another one of those statistics of people who gained the w…

Hi everyone. This is my first post. I started my pre op liquid only diet for the next two weeks yesterday and I am continually having thoughts of if I'm making the right decision having this surgery. I am 25 and my weight is 265. I want nothing more than to lose weight but the thought I'm second guessing myself is making me even more nervous! Any words or advice?? Thank you!!

I was constantly on a diet so often times I call myself going to salad bars where you pay per pound. I like all the different selections so I always wanted a little of this and that and well, my eyes are bigger than my stomach so I always overdid it and end up paying over $10.00 for lunch. Well when I am on solid foods after surgery, I can't wait to be able to go to a salad bar and get very little and be satisfied. I always admired the people who get the small containers and have very little in them. I can't wait for that to be me. lol

So does anyone else have a doctor who doesn't require a major pre-op diet? I met with the nutritionist and her only instructions to me were to substitute a protein shake for breakfast, reduce carbohydrates to 1 serving per meal, drink 64 oz water per day and not drink when I eat. That's it. I only have a clear liquids restriction the day before surgery. My doctor is highly respected and I have utmost confidence in him, so I'm not questioning it. I am, in fact, grateful for the easier process...but I was wondering if anyone else had similar experience?

My appointment for my consultation was supposed to be in late February. Well, I got a call yesterday that they had a cancelation....now it's this coming MONDAY! I had to say YES! I am a little freaked out and feel unprepared. I plan on taking notes and what not and the questions I can think of. I would like to pick y'alls brains about what you wish you'd asked and what you DID ask. I've been to two classes so far but my mind is drawing blanks. I am super excited and super, super nervous. Any advice and tips are highly appreciated!

Hello, does anyone have information about whether Weight Watchers online qualifies as a "structured diet program"? I am just about up to 6 consecutive months. I haven't had one-on-one consult yet, just the informational webinar. Of course, I want to know right now, LOL.

I was cooking dinner for the family, and not even paying attention, I ate about 4-5 spoonfuls of food. It is such a natural habit, that I honestly didn't realize I was doing it, until it was too late. I am scheduled for surgery in 1 week from today, so I am so close to the finish line on this pre-op journey. I have been super dedicated, drinking the shakes, water and broth, but not sure how I messed up. Mentally I am devastated, but will I be ok???? No judgement please

My Dr doesn't require a pre-op liquid diet. I know that the purpose of the liquid diet is to shrink your liver prior to surgery to reduce complications. For this reason, I want to do a liquid diet on my own just to eliminate any extra chance of something going wrong and for that little peace of mind. What's the best way to tackle this sucker? I can't imagine it being very fun LOL Any tips or tricks to enduring the hunger would be more than appreciated. Thanks in advance! - xx

I'm coming up on visit 4 of 6 to the nutritionist as a part of my pre-op work up for the sleeve...and I am struggling. Not sure what the mental block is but I am super struggling to stick with the my plate lifestyle. The fact that I haven't been able to successfully make the shift pre-surgery is really starting to make me nervous. Will I be able to do it after surgery? Why am I still clinging to comfort foods? I've explored the psych reasons behind it and literally can't find anything - and this is with a therapist. She says I'm "catastrophizing" life without these foods after surgery (even though I can technically have them...so let's say limited comfort foods in order t…

I don't see the surgeon for the first time until late February of 2018. I want to lose some weight before that but i'm also afraid of losing to much! I am being weighed at the classes I am attending so they know my starting weight. Right now my BMI is over 40 and I am afraid if it drops below that I won't qualify. I still plan on controlling my diet no matter what to keep my A1c good. What was y'alls experience with this? It is just something i've been worried about. Thanks!

Hey guys! So, I'm going to have my consultation with my surgeon in a few weeks. However from what I have been told, the health insurance is going to want me to enrole in a six-month diet. Is that a normal thing? Also, do you know if something like that is usually supervised with the nutritionist or a dietitian?

Hello. I started the process of seeing if I'd qualify for WLS in September 2016. It has been a long process, but I completed my 6-month diet and exercise plan with my PCP plus the additional requirements in order to submit to my insurance company for approval. My insurance company approved my surgery in mid-May and I just had the labs and EGD about two weeks ago. I have an appointment with my surgeon 7/5 to go over all these results and see if we can schedule my surgery. I'm so excited to have surgery, and I've worked so hard and waited so long, but it seems the closer I get the more I keep falling back into old/bad habits. I started at 505. I got down to 471 a…

What kind of blender are you using? My current blender is so loud, it will wake up everyone in the house when it's turned on (not to mention scared the crap out of our cats) so I'm looking for a new one. Is anyone using the Nutri Bullet and how easy is it to take those cups to work with you? In addition to drinking my protein drink at home, I also want to be able to make it and take it with me to work rather than buy the pre-mixed protein shakes.

I'm 2 days away from my Gastric Sleeve Surgery and all of a sudden I'm getting so nervous. Maybe it's because I'm so hungry and I think that's what's making me emotional. I'm down 24lbs so far on my pre op Diet. I keep telling myself nothing will ever taste as good as healthy will feel and it's totally helped me keep my willpower. I'm sure it's normal to feel overwhelmed right before surgery. After the surgery you don't feel hungry right? Maybe it's just all in my head.

I'm still a couple of months out from surgery. My surgeon required a 2 week liquid pre op diet. I just had a tooth pulled earlier this week and had to be on liquids for at least 1 day afterwards. I wear an insulin pump and am wondering how this is going to work during the 2 week liquid diet. I was only on liquids for 1 day and yesterday my sugar dropped so low it really scared me. I haven't crashed like that in a long time and don't want to be going through this everyday during preop. It kind of defeats the purpose because i always take in more carbs than i need to when this happens beause you just want it to start. Anyone go through anything like this during the a…

Hi, I'm new here. Tomorrow I start my liquid diet. I'm only allowed 2 cups veggies and must drink 7-9 high Protein ensures. I'm also allowed Clear liquids. Has anyone done this? I'm terrified. I realize I'm probably going to detox from surgery, milk, carbs etc. just looking for any strategies. I do have advice from the dietitians, but as they have never had to do this, they simply look at it from the clinical point of view.

Hey folks, So I know we can do sugar free Popsicles on the liquid diet. What's the consensus on the sugar free Fudgsicle? It has 5g net carbs (versus SF Popsicles having 4g carbs). Just curious. I did a little googling and found mixed replies.

Hi Everyone! I'm brand new here and am yet to see my dietitian (appointment next week... yay!) I know the pre-op diet here in Australia is basically shakes and salads, and some dietitians allow small amounts of chicken and some allow eggs. I've been doing some research and it looks like in the USA the pre-op diet is similar to Atkins with a 1-2 week liquid only diet immediately before surgery day? I'm really curious to know what the different standards are around the world... Just purely out of curiousity (I will obviously follow the guidelines set for me by my dietitian and surgeon) I'm a bit of a science buff and since I started looking at getting the op (sleeve)…

It's time to buy my proteins! Huzzah! This was discussed in my class, but I clearly didn't retain this information. I have two questions on the pre/post op liquid diets. As I recall, liquid was define as anything in a liquid state at room temperature. This included popsicles, broth, shakes, etc. So question one: Does yogurt count? I'm not sure how I'd define that consistency! I've found a bunch of Greek yogurt flavors (without that I enjoy and would love to put them into rotation during this time if I'm allowed. Secondly: How many of these per day am I supposed to have? Obviously there's the breakfast/lunch/dinner ones. Do I have a full shake for 2 Snacks a…

My pre-op diet starts tomorrow and was given guidelines of 2-3 Protein shakes and 1 small meal (protein+veggies) each day. I know we have no caffeine, no carbonation, etc. I plan to mostly drink decaf tea which is my normal anyway but I do like my morning coffee. If I have decaf coffee, what about sugar free creamer? I usually use Sugar free coffee mate, my first reaction is I should cut that off but I know that it may be the one thing a day I will struggle with most. I am thinking maybe pour my decaf coffee into a warmed vanilla/chocolate Protein shake? Just wondering what others have done to curb that coffee craving as I know I will have one and I want to be prepared. …
