Sooo.... my nutiritionist and doctor did not tell me calories, how to add the Protein to my drinks or yogurt.... I'm at a loss.... I mean, realizing it 5 days before pre-op isn't the greatest, but anyone wanna give me some input? @@Mami5Boys - can you give me some input if Dr Paragi told you anything about the diet before and directly after surgery? I think I'm just in last minute panic mode lol

I am new to this great site that I recently found and I am in need of some guidance. I am in Canada and the process takes approx. 1 1/2 -2 years from the time you enter into the bariatric program until you have surgery. You have to go to your nurse, dietician, psychologist, bariatric program Doctor etc. many many times before you are even sent to see a surgeon. Once you get referred to the surgeon you are looking at another 9-12 months before surgery. Here is my issue...... I want this surgery so bad but my obvious gross eating habits are going to get in the way of continuing in the program. I have to lose weight each time I see someone in the clinic (or at least maintain…

  6. I am VERY early on in the process, so in some senses this is premature. But I figure if I can collect ideas here now, I will have time to do my own research AND get the products I decide on before I actually need them. (Being on Disability, I have a VERY tight budget so will probably only be able to get one item per month sort of thing.) There are a couple of topics in various other places on Bariatric Pal, and I found a couple of web sites that give general pre-op suggestions for surgery. What I've come up with so far is Aconitum, Arnica, and Ferrum phos for 2-3 days before surgery. Also loading up on Vitamins A and C along with the mineral Zinc. Has anybody heard…

Hi, my name is Michelle and I'm on Day 2 of my Pre-Op diet. My requirements are two-three protein shakes a day and a healthy meal no more than 450 calories. I was able to consure 100 ounces of fluids to stay hydrated and did well for the most part. I had a terrible headache yesterday and felt very sluggish. Any suggestions on curbing the headaches and sluggishness? I started my walking/stair climbing program today. I have a desk job and set a timer on my phone to walk/climb stairs every 30 minutes. My surgery is scheduled for December 29th. My husband had his gastric sleeve surgery December 2013 and is down 125 pounds. I'm so looking foward to feeling better. Thanks for r…

Just wanted to let y'all know I have a blog you guys may be interested in reading! I also have a YouTube channel but I don't use it as much as the blog right now. The blog goes into great detail about pre op and post op life. I put all my stats on there and I'm super open about everything. The blog is meant to help answer questions and support other WLSer's. As a community, we are the only ones who truly understand each other. Started my 1 week pre-op liquid diet today. Doctor had said that my tastebuds would likely change after surgery, but I found that they have already changed. Protein powders and ready to drink shakes that I have been using all summer were nearly impossible to get down. Don't think I came close to the 60-70 grams I'm supposed to get. I found some protein shots online starting at 26g up to 50g in SMALL bottles, 3-4 oz, I'm thinking that would be a lot easier to get down than 8-11 ounces for powders or ready to drink. Have any of you tried them? The one with 50g is from beef not whey or soy. Wonder if it is OK? 2 of those would give more than enough protein for a day a he…

So I'm on day two of the 2-week pre-op diet (3 shakes a day, 1 lean cuisine, 64 oz+ of water), and wow, it's hard to fit all this liquid into my day. I'm trying to time it correctly with Water consumption so that I'm not drinking water 30 min before or 1 hr after a shake, but...time is running out on me! It's a good thing that right now I can gulp a whole bottle in 15 minutes, but I know won't be able to do that after surgery. So what are your great tips on how to fit in all the shakes/water/etc? Bonus question: I'm also a little annoyed that my doctor's office is being super inflexible about the pre-op diet. I'd like to substitute some unjury chicken Soup flavor Protei…

  12. I am most likely going to have to do a 2 week liver reduction diet before surgery. BMI is 47. My doc office recommends Bariatric advantage but I need a more cost effective plan. I thought about pure protein. What do you all recommend? Our diet is 2 shakes a day, 2 protein snacks a day and 1 lean green meal for the 1st week. The 2nd week is 5 shakes a day.

  14. Started by loser2014,

I have been gradually losing my sweet tooth over the years and find myself totally repulsed by pretty much all the Protein drinks I've tried. I am on the pre-op liquid diet and have been eating a lot of broth based Soups because I just can't stomach the shakes. I've also 'cheated' with some non-liquid Medifast meals like sloppy joe (110 cal/11 g protein/1.5 fat) and hard boiled eggs to get protein. I'm worried about not getting enough protein post-op. Any ideas for savory liquid high-protein foods?

  15. Started by AuriP,

I swear I consumed too much protein last night. I was hungry after working ( I work 3-11:30pm) and didn't want to eat so I mixed a Nectar protein(23 g of protein) with Fair Life (13 g of protein) milk. Man, I haven't been hungry all day and have felt a bit heavy and bloated. This is the last time I'm doing that, apparently that was a bit too much for me at one time.

  18. I am 10 days post-op. When I first started this whole WLS thing, my sister and nephew (who I live with) were both gonna diet along with me ... yadda, yadda; well, that fell through. When I started doing the pre-op diet I found it very difficult sitting with them at the table. She has changed nothing about the way she cooks (gravies, Pasta, bakes cakes, Cookies on her dresser, Breyer's in the freezer) and I am having a very hard time with this. I ended up moving to my room where I could eat in peace. I go to the kitchen 3 times a day to make my meals and that's it. Am I being a chicken? I start my pureed food Wednesday and it sure would be nice to eat with the famil…

I'm aware that the pre-op diet is typically in place to shrink your liver- does anyone know why this is so important? Is the liver typically "in the way" during surgery? What is it about the diet that causes the liver to "shrink"? My surgeon is having me do a pre-op diet that consists of 2 small Protein shakes and a green salad with "clear" dressing (Italian, balsamic etc.) I know for certain, this will have me very very hungry all week. I intend to do my absolute best and follow all instructions, but going from eating (I'm not a huge eater actually) to a diet that's roughly 600 calories a day is intimidating. I worry a bit, because though I am stopping drinking now (…

So I am in the home stretch, one week to go, im taking in 600 calories or less a day. (Cant choke down the shakes anymore, and never want to see another leaf of lettuce as long as I live.) Now im GAINING weight. WHAT???. Im starving, I cant sleep im so hungry. I have gained two pounds of the 15 I had lost. I now need to loose six pounds in six days. Aside from laxatives, does anyone have any suggestions? I am so frustrated. I just want to give up. Hey guys! So I'm pre-op and my surgery date is 08/19. I'm going through Dr Kim in texas getting the gastric sleeve. Here is my issue. I was told to start my liquid diet on 06/11/14 and continue it until surgery. That seems to be a bit long to me and I've talked to other sleeve patients who said their liquid diet ranged between 2-4 weeks. I just don't know why mine is so long and wondering how long you guys had to do yours.

  25. Starting my pre op diet tomorrow and my instructions are very unclear as far as what it says I can have. It only says 3 shakes a day and 3 oz of lean meat and 1 cup of vegetables. No other options like coffee or splenda or tea or bouillons or Popsicles or G2 Gatorade or anything like that. Just curious if anyone out there has other options on theirs. Gonna call my surgeons office today but just want some ideas if anyone had any to get threw the next 2 weeks.

It just dawned on me while reading as many text as I could on this Sunday. I've been reading a lot of threads about before surgery jitters. definitely a legitimate concern, indeed. Its natural to be that way before any major surgery. Like Mr. Coggin said, I'd be leary of someone who wasn't. Ok with that said, what I haven't heard from people is how are you preparing for your new life. Your new pouch is like a new baby. You wouldn't feed a new born foods you know would hurt their tummies or give them diarrhea aka 'dumping'. While the surgery is a MAJOR part of what is about to happen to you, and a lot of the threads on here talk about hair loss, vitamins, dumping, as the…

Question: how much protein is everyone that is pre op taking in daily.? I'm drinking four ounces of skim milk with one scoop of protein which is 30 gram in each scoop, I'm drinking this four times a day. On my diet it doesn't say how much protein I should be having a day it just says to have 3-5 protein drinks a day. I'm a little confused

Today is day two of my two week pre op diet. Liquids only with one protein bar daily. I find myself not hungry cause I'm drinking so much but it doesn't help that my family orders pizza for lunch and is eating it right in front of me. So, I guess I'm trying my hardest but I ate some of the cheese and pepperoni topping. Anyone else have family not trying to sabotage but their eating habits are affecting yours? I need some help here. Maybe some word of encouragement or advise. I'm so lost. And this bouillon, crystal light, Nd protein shake only diet is already getting to me. FYI surgery is December 20th.

I'm almost 2 weeks into my 3 week pre op diet. I've lost 15 pounds or so but have substituted allowable Proteins for shakes most of the time. I've logged all foods consumed and kept the carbs low and Protein where I'd should be. I thought I was allergic to whey as I got a rash after first Day of shakes but not sure now. My nut said it was ok to substitute proteins on list for shakes but I think my surgeon would get mad if I told him I did this. Tomorrow is my weigh in appointment and surgery in one week. Should I tell my surgeon about the shake replacing or not bring it up?

  44. So I'm just finishing day 2 of my 8 day pre-op liquid diet. My surgeon didn't give me a specific meal plan, just examples of what I could eat, and what I should not eat. Basically the "do not eat" column lists things like anything chewable, no caffeine, no carbonated beverages, etc...The okay column he does list things like sugar free jello/pudding, skim milk, 0% MF Yogurt, broth based Soups, cream based soups (strained), and shakes such as Boost/Ensure high Protein, instant Breakfast shakes and such (which are higher in carbs then say a premiere protein shake). I walk into work & there sits a platter of cupcakes, a coworker offers me a piece of key lime pie & then someone is taking orders for our favorite hold in the wall breakfast joint....I just have to LOL!! I guess since all this preparation has happened I've become more aware of what I put into my body. So far so good, I've had my breakfast protein shake, I can have a small piece of fruit as a snack & another shake for lunch. I'm allowed 3 oz of lean protein & non starchy veggies....anyone else become a food snob???? I'm finding myself silently judging others food choices!!!

For those of you that don't know it is a frozen yogurt place. Their yogurt is out of this world and I could totally survive a month on that if I had to lol! I know that I can't have fruit chunks in my pre-op yogurt, but I found no mention of frozen yogurt. Anyone know if that is ok??? I am hoping for a yes! LoL Please let me know! I just prefer the taste of the frozen yogurt as it is almost like ice cream lol Please don't get me wrong...I like some regular yogurt as well. Now I am just rambling lol look forward to so…
