Just wanted to share this amazing bottle with everyone. It's called a Blender Bottle (bought at GNC). Mixes Protein to just the right constancy with no foam like an electric blender produces. I love it!! The special whisk ball does all the work. Great for at work :-) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

So I'm about a week (come Monday) into my preop diet, which my surgeon has us do two meals between 250-350 cals and Protein shake for Breakfast then Fiber if we're hungry still, and the second week is one meal two shakes. I'm over the hump of physical hunger, and not really having head hunger either. The problem I'm running into is not getting enough calories. I'm supposed to get between 1000-1200, i no longer want to eat or feel hungry and I have only ate 500 calories, so I force myself to drink another Protein Drink before bed, BUT I'm drinking premier and that offers only 160 cals, so I'm only making between 600-750 calories for the last two days. Seeing as I'm not hu…

I'm pretty sure this has been asked already but this forum is very large and the key word search doesn't seem to work well. Just wanted to know what suggestions you have as far as thinks you should do or avoid. Also, how long were you in pain afterwards and when were you feeling close to your normal selves? Thanks, Londa

I'm looking to order my post op and pre op liquid diet materials over the weekend and was just curious which you preferred? I'm a chocolate lover --- how does it taste? Which brand did you like? did it mix well? Were you able to do a liquid diet for 2 weeks with no issues -- I'm a tad scared. I don't have a surgery date, almost done with my pre testings *endo and sleep study this week* ... I'm hoping within the next month to have the sleeve ... Anything you can do to help me.. thanks! I'm really really worried about not succeeding on my weight loss diet, so far. I've got to lose 16 kilograms to do this surgery and I'm finding things very hard. I'm overwhelmed, tired. I'm trying and trying, but i can't control me. I have daily long walks, eat much less than i used to. My status remain the same: no significant change. I'm worried, disappointed, sad, my enthusiasm is gone. Has anyone passed through this situation? Sent from my SM-G925I using the BariatricPal App

I am currently on day 5 of the pre-op diet. My pre-op diet instructions from my surgeon are 800-900 calories per day of any food they sell in their store in the surgeon's office. It's all specially formulated food that's low carb, low cal, high Protein. I have been following it TO. THE. LETTER. I haven't even had some of the "allowed" things like sugar free popsicles, sugar free soda, etc. I've been getting in OVER my required 64 fl. oz of Water a day. But I'm not losing any weight. I haven't gained anything, but I haven't lost anything. I am sitting at the same weight - to the decimal point - as when I started. I'm starting to worry. My surgeon has specifically said …

Hello everyone! I've seen the NUT and had my consultation with my surgeon. I have to lose 10 pounds in order to have surgery. Not quite sure of my surgery date yet. My psych appt isn't until mid January. After that appt my paperwork can be sent to insurance for approval, then I can have surgery. My biggest problem is my love of sweets. Does anyone has some good tips/advice to kick the sweets habit? Any input is appreciated. TIA Sent from my VS995 using the BariatricPal App

Hello everyone, I am just curious if anyone has gone through this already or going through it at the moment. My ins. co. requests that I undergo nutritionist/dietitian supervision for four months as part of the pre-op. I have undergone two visits already, on my second visit the dietitian noticed that I had been eating a lot of food that I shouldn't and that I had no exercise involved whatsoever. She then suggested that I could make some changes in order for me to try and lose some weight. In fact, prior to her saying that, she actually had asked that if I was supposed to maintain my weight or lose some. Yes, my food diary was that bad . As the appointment continued s…

How Did You Get Through the Pre-Op Diet? Getting weight loss surgery can be incredibly exciting. It may be something that you have been looking forward to for years, or it might be something that you just learned about recently but knew immediately that it was for you. Preparation such as choosing and meeting your surgeon, scheduling your surgery, cleaning out your kitchen, and restocking it with the Protein foods you’ll need after surgery can be fun. Reality can hit, though, when you start your pre-op diet. All of a sudden, you may be starving or craving the fatty or sugary foods that used to be part of your daily life. You may be missing out on good times with frie…

So my doctor has sent me Optifast for the next 2 weeks pre-surgery. I tried both the vanilla and chocolate they sent. The vanilla made me gag, couldn't drink it at all and was able to drink the chocolate if I held my nose. Not sure how I'm going to make it through the next 2 weeks like this. I'm not sweet lover to begin with so this artificial sweet stuff is just gross. Has anyone else done anything different in the two weeks? I can't be the only one.

I'm halfway through my clear liquid diet & I have stuck to it religiously (protein/vitamins/no solid food/liquid goals) I've been feeling pretty good (once I got past day 3) BUT this morning I woke up feeling so drained & lifeless. I'm not even hungry just dragging! I still have a week to go! Is this normal??? Have others experienced this? I'm anxious about the surgery next week too... I'm progressively gaining energy as the day goes on but it was really f*cking hard to get out of bed this morning. Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App

Today is my 2nd day on the liver shrink diet. Both days I have had an average of 20 grams of fat, 2500 sodium, and 150 carbs... I am wondering if this is to much... the dietitian told me that fat was the main part to cut out but she didnt give me a number... I have been following the plan they gave me but I still feel like it maybe to much and I dont want my surgery interfered with in any way lol Thoughts please?

I'm in month 2 of a 3 month medically supervised diet as required by my insurance. My first month I lost 17 lbs. This last month I had a harder time staying on track and also weighed in when I was seriously bloated from menstruation. As a result, I gained 8 lbs. I'm terrified that insurance won't approve me. I'm confident that I can lose this month and that I will have lost weight overall during the 3 month period, but I can't erase that +8 for this months weigh-in. Please, if anyone has gone through this, can you tell me how insurance handled it? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

***I just realized where I posted this. This probably isn't the right section for this. Sorry.*** I can not shake the feeling of hunger tonight. I have tried all my tricks for head hunger and still the feeling persists, including stomach rumblings. My PCP put me on a low carb diet and I’ve only eaten 7 net carbs tonight so I have some wiggle room (try not to go over 20 net), but I hate the thought of eating more. I feel like I’m failing if I do. I’m not, right? I’m just hungry and there’s nothing wrong with eating when actually hungry. Ugh, this stupid diet and having weight loss goals that I have to meet for someone else is messing with my head. When I lost …

Hey Team BP, Macronutrients are the theme for the next two weeks. Have been working on a lot: Wednesday's class—the counselor actually had me speak about Bariatric Pal, and the support network/informational opportunities that I've see so far. Maybe some of my class members will join in the future! Kitchen overhaul happened on Friday night; tossed everything that was even remotely unhealthy, and totally cleaned out the cupboards. All alcohol was also dumped down the drain. I'm not a big drinker by any means, but people gift lots of liquor and wine to me...it is something I would love to move away from. The six month program has a VERY specific list of foods r…

I am in the third month of my six month diet... I am dedicated. I quit all my vices... no more drinking beer light or otherwise, no smoking, no candy hidden through out the house, no more fast food, no more soda which was almost always diet. I now log all food that goes into my body, drink loads of water, protein shakes once to twice a day. With all this I'm not losing weight. I am down in the dumps today. I am throwing myself a grand pity party right now. So I went out and bought carbs.... cherries, strawberries and apples to go along w. my afternoon protein. I was a pretty heavy drinker (beer and diet soda) I thought that alone would have helped me shed some #…

My NUT suggested I start eating between 1200 and 1500 calories per day, which is a pretty big change from what I've been doing lately. Today is Day 1, and I'm having a hard time tonight. Some of it is pure physical hunger, most of it is head hunger - literally! Do you ever get a hunger headache and know it's from "hunger" because it feels different than a normal headache? It's like a food withdrawal headache. I'm definitely struggling with that kind of hunger tonight, and it's taking everything I have not to go eat all of the carbs in the house (wait - is carb withdrawal a thing?). *sigh* I can do this. I can do this. I can do this.

Hi All, I'm pre-op, but this question is for everybody. Is anyone here practicing a way of eating, like Paleo or Wheat Belly, that eliminates grains, gluten & sugars, and focuses on high-quality Proteins (no hormones, no antibiotics, no steroids, grass fed and free range) + organic veggies and fruits? I'd love to get to know people who want to eat this way. I have a lot of inflammatory and gastric issues that I want to heal from (all of which help me qualify for the surgery). Health is my #1 concern and my main reason for wanting to lose the weight. I know from experience that grains (even whole grains), sugar, and junk make all my conditions worse, especia…

Hi everyone. I am new to the forum and website. I am wondering if any of you are having trouble staying motivated during the initial weight loss process before surgery? I have Kaiser Permanente insurance and their bariatric program is great, BUT, I need to lose a little more weight before my final nutritionist appointment in April. If I don't lose the amount they want me to, my case file wont even go to the "approval committee" to be considered for a surgery date. If I lose the last bit of weight, my file will be complete and I will be looking at a mid-late June surgery date. (YAY!) I just can't seem to stay motivated. I want the surgery, but going on another d…

I will be starting my liquid pre-op liquid diet soon. The purpose is to shrink my liver so it has to be low carb (6-7 carbs max) & high Protein (min 15 g) all-liquids to help clean out my intestines. Problem is, all the protein drinks I've tried literally nauseate me. Some even give me an immediate headache. Obviously I have to find something, and fast! Here are the drinks I've tried: - Premier Protein (ready-to-drink, vanilla. This was sooo sweet, with a horrible artificial sweet taste. (And is the brand that is most people's favorite !) - Atkins Advantage coffee flavor. The first few sips weren't too bad, but it's then the sweetness took over, and it eve…

Help! I spent the last year getting off of aspartame. I know this is helpful because I no longer drink diet soda and soda will not be an option, so that is great. I am told for Snacks I can have sugar free ice pops and sugar free Jello. Has anyone found a natural alternative to crappy sugar free products that are compliant? Any suggestions are great. (I am preparing to start my pre op diet.) Thanks!

I did some searching on the forums and didn't see too much on this I'm starting my first job since surgery and I'm trying to plan out what I can buy for lunches. I already made a bowl of tuna salad that I can portion out for a few days but I want to give myself a variety. I'm mainly looking for things I can bring with me in a cooler bag and I can neatly munch at my desk (I have a habit of working through my lunches) I really love these, they taste really good, have a good amount of Protein, and are a perfect size. But kind of expensive http://www.iheartthemart.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Hillshire-Snacking-Walmart.png

Hello all! A little background on me: I'm 46 years old and was recently diagnosed as diabetic with severe obstructive sleep apnea. I also quit a 20 year smoking habit in June 2014. In April 2009 at my highest weight of 382 I had a lapband installed. That helped me lose 30-40 lbs that I have essentially kept off in the last 6 years. I've been on Weight Watchers since May 2014 but have gained and lost the same 15 lbs (fluctuate between 348-360 depending on the time of month.) I've been doing nutritionist visits since Oct and will have completed my 6 months pre-op period in March. The only problem is that I haven't lost any weight. Still doing the up-and-down thing. I'm curr…

I am almost through my first week of pre-op 6 months supervised diet. For me the dr calls it a sandwich diet. One week high Protein /low carb and two weeks clear liquid alternating. I found unflavored hemp protein to try but was wondering if anyone else has food allergies? I am allergic to caseins in dairy and eggs. Many protein drinks have egg albumin and of course whey is out. So many high protein suggestions are hard boiled eggs , yogurt , cottage cheese but I can't eat any of it. I feel like this is going to be a bigger challenge for me .

So my surgeon has me on the Opti-Fast diet for the next 2 weeks. I thought I was going to hate it but I'm doing pretty well, but it's also only been 3 days so we'll see how long it is before I go nuts lol. The only thing I don't like about this diet is your lack of choices. The shakes only come in 3 flavors, the soups only come in 2 flavors and the bars are completely intolerable texture wise. I had to swap out all of my bars for more shakes. I tried the PB, Chocolate and Berry.. All to me, are absolutely disgusting! The tomato and chicken cream soup are actually really really good and you're allowed to season those as long as it's sugar free seasoning. I will say too,…

So today was the first of six sessions of nutrition I have to attend in order for my insurance company to even consider paying for my surgery. This is just one of the many requirements as part of my pre-op hoops to jump through. I wasn't sure what to expect, but i thought I would be walking out with a menu plan already done. I wanted to go to the grocery store, buy it and be on my way to immediate weight loss. (Lol-whose dreaming?). Instead I walked out with a better understanding of how food fuels my body, and why I have struggled to lose weight and keep it off. I am thankful for this requirement because without the knowledge I don't know if WLS would have worked long-…

Who says you can no longer enjoy Frappe's? Here is a yummy alternative. I love Starbucks, especially their Frappacinno's. My husband bought me a Frappacinno maker and I love it. I have used it in the past, but never tried to make sugar free, low calorie, high Protein frappe's. So here is what I used. (May use regular blender) Recipe Java chip mint Frappacinno Starbucks French Roast or Italian Bold Roast- 3 tablespoons 1/2 cup of Water. (Mix this and warm in coffee cup ahead of time if no frappe maker, will need to add this once mixed to blender) 2-3 cups of ice 3 packets of Splenda (which converts from 2 Tbsp of sugar) 2 Tbsp of Sugar free chocolate syru…

I was going to go under the knife. The surgeon put me on 800 calories a day. That alone nearly killed me as I was pre diabetic. I found out that this sort of starvation in not only cruel but dangerous especially for a man my size. After studying nutrition and health I became astounded and how ignorant or dishonest MDs actually are. Fortunately for me my physical therapist talked me out of surgery and hooked me up with a gym that had a weight loss program. They fixed my head and showed me that I could do this. I was losing about 3 pounds per week and in a little over a year I was at a healthy weight. My % body fat is 12%. I workout 45 minutes per day and I play sports.…

I've replaced one meal a day with a Protein shake, I'm monitoring and pacing my fluids, I don't drink with my meals or for 30 minutes before and after, I'm trying to make better food choices, and I'm trying to work on the physical activity level. What else can I do to make it go better, faster, get better results? I guess you can tell that I'm kind of excited about this, especially as I'm 67 and haven't been thin in over 20 years!

Title says it all. Was out running some errands and couldn't resist hitting the drive thru at the doughnut shop......a place I know all too well. Not the way I'd spend my money there in the past. I truly have zero desire for the rest of their menu right now. I'm going to enjoy this for this duration of this week. I'm still 4+ months out from surgery so I'll continue to enjoy. Looking forward to getting through the surgery.....adapt to the new food intake and adding my coffee back to the daily grub. Love my java.

I don't have a solid surgery date yet. I'm not on the "pre-op liquid diet" stage. So I'm kind of pre, pre-op as far as diet. I do want to lose about 25 more lbs before my surgery date. If I can make it to my mini-goal that means I will have 110 lbs to lose after my surgery. I'm not even sure if the 25 lbs will matter but I've set out on this mission and want to accomplish it. Any tips? What did you do to lose weight in the beginning? I've lost 10-13 lbs so far... 25 more to go!!
