Started my 2 week “liquid” diet Wednesday. I am allowed 1 Egg per day, 4 Protein Shakes, 1 Serving of NF plain Yogurt, and unlimited broth, sf jello etc. I am not gonna gonna lie the first 3 days were horrible! I even had a small pretzel stick on the second day. Today I was quite shocked though to wake up and not be able to finish my broth. I have been having protein shakes and jello but I am nowhere near as hungry as I was and have tons more energy. Do you think I am over the hump? Is this normal? Also lost about 15lbs in same timeframe ?

I am just starting this process. I expect surgery around February. Had a group meeting/class, and one of the suggestions was to start trying the protein drinks. That seemed odd, I thought how bad can they be? Well, now I know!!!! I have never been able to stand the taste of artificial sweeteners. My questions are: Is there a protein drink that does not have artificial sweeteners? I've ordered some with Stevia, from Amazon, they will get here tomorrow, but in the past I found Stevia unappealing as well. (The ones I have tried with aspartame made me very ill; perhaps it was the combination of the sweetener and the Whey). Secondly, assuming I cannot find one I can…

Just want some peeps opinion. I have been through hell and back to get this surgery. went through my doctors entire program only to be told by Aetna last month I'm denied. I had lost 15 lbs following the drs program but but that stressed me out and I started eating bad...not so bad just normal and I allowed myself sugar and carbs. As of the 17th I had gained 6 lbs back. Well i did get approval finally after appeal and Tuesday (two days ago) I called and asked for an idea of the surgery date. They said I could do it Tuesday, Oct 1. yahoo, but then OMG! Well Tuesday night they e-mail that I have to start the pre-op diet immediately. So yesterday (Wednesday) I got …

Hi everyone! I’ve got a quick question about mixing up protein powders. I bought the sampler of the syntax and several of them are fruity flavors. The directions say to mix them with water which makes sense but it also says to add 8-16 ounces. I tried it, but good gravy! It is much too strong. I’m a plain water drinker, and this is overpowering. About the only way I can manage it is to mix the packet in at least 22-24 ounces. Do y’all think this is okay?

hi - newbie here.... of course we will ask his doctor at an upcoming appointment but wondering why i don't see a thread on this topic.... my hubby is diabetic and will start his 2 week pre-op diet soon with protein shakes and broth - which means no-carbs but his meds work based on him having carbs. i'm hoping they just take him off his meds once the liquid diet starts but his A1C will be tested a week prior to make sure it is in the 7 range. any experience with this is appreciated. i'm also interested if anyone was able to immediately stop diabetes meds after surgery. thanks.

Any recommendations for protein shakes (preferably grab and go shakes) that don’t have lactose in them that still taste good??? My surgery center has a brand they recommend but they don’t sit well and I don’t think I’ll be able to use them for the month pre surgery and for who knows how long after. Any recommendations would be helpful!!

Day 1 Someone take the wheel ??♀️ It’s really challenging with kids out of school for the summer and eating every 6 seconds ?. But I just keep reminding myself this is to shrink my liver and that my life is about to change. Anywho, here is a picture of my dinner. Chicken broth with half a teaspoon goya Adobo seasoning, sugar free jello, sugar free drink. Following it up with a strawberry P P shake. Caramel has been my favorite flavor so far but this strawberry isn’t half bad. Any tips or liquid diet hacks/recipes?

My husband just surprised me and ordered the Starter pack from Unjury so I can try all of their protein powders. It's scary how excited I am! But I'm ready to see what will work for me on my liquid diet, and for protein after! I feel like this is a step that will get me to my next appointment. Anyone else have a similar experience?

I am starting my pre opt diet tomorrow. It’s a full liquid diet. My doctor said I can have cream of wheat which I like. I made some today however I am guessing it needs to be a little more thinner. I can have chicken broth God help me. I brought sugar free popsicle, sugar free pudding and protein shakes. If I can’t make this cream of wheat thinner then I am not going to do it. I gain almost ten pounds since my last visit. I am determined to lose at least 12 pounds before surgery because I am determined not to cheat one day. I am moving this weekend and I am in school online so I am very busy. Mind over matter, I had the sleeve in 2015 and wasn’t successful. This revision…

i tried one optifast shake (still deciding on surgery but getting closer) and got a monster headache and brain fog for a few hours following looking on their site this is normal for after a few days on the optifast program after your body goes into keto, not as a reaction right after drinking one shake! now i’m worried about two weeks of drinking them pre-surgery if i’m reacting to something in them like this. i’ll ask the dietician about it before surgery but wondered if anyone else had a reaction like this?

So far for good Had the Gastric band I previously had inserted in June 2011, removed and a successful Roux en Y/gastric bypass completed on Wednesday May 8. Yes there is pain but bearable with 2 ES Acetaminophen and 5mg Oxycodone for breakthrough. IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER... Constipation will occur if you Do Not Take a stool softener/ laxative with a narcotic. Please please discuss this with your health care provider before your surgery to ensure you are not burdened with this issue. Thank heavens I have great support and my darling daughter is getting me an enema... relief and the an end is near [emoji527]

I went to the ER on friday was extremely dehydrated and potassium super low. But there no short comings that happen for a reason. I was changed prescription and given naseau medicine. Now I am actually eating tiny tiny amounts, but starting to feel human and not so weak. My energy is going up, and want to start taking vitamins now specially B12, D, and A which I am low. Which do you recommend? This is my routine right now. Wake up at 5 am or 6 am: feeling super thirsty I decided to eat first so I don't have to wait the thirty minutes. But I think I should drink first. I found I love infused water much better than plain but has to be ice cold. What do you …

Hey all, I have seen so many different pre op things everyone is going through but here in our program in Vermont as part of the classes and program we have a journal where we have to create a four day liquid diet and then actually do a 3 day liquid soft food no chew diet. Has anyone else done this? From statistics I guess our program is much longer than other states as I started this process in September and it is now April but I am near completing all of the requirements in order to submit it to insurance but am wondering what others on their programs have had to do. This 3 day is not the final liquid diet before actual surgery but a prep so to speak for the big 14 day …

I’m not sure what’ I’m doing wrong. I’m 12 days post op. I was told to s art and increase my foods, I start purées soon and to add a scrambled egg. So I did, I got maybe 1/4 of it eaten, then within 5 minutes, it all came back up. It’s been about 5 hours since, I’ve vomited maybe twice more. I thought I woul d have a glass of milk, as I felt fine. Nope, that came back up too. I a, burping constantly. Am I overfull? I’ve only had 1/2 protein shake, about 30 oz of water, 1/4 egg and 2 sips of milk all day. Does this mean I’m not ready for that type of food?

It’s Easter and I’m on my second day of my pre-op liquid diet. It’s not AS hard as I thought it would be. Thank GOD for those non starchy vegetables I get to have though. Makes a big difference being able to “chew” some foods. Plus, they have def filled me up and taken the edge off. I actually went to bed last night feeling stuffed and couldn’t even get my last protein drink in. I’m allowed 1-2 cups of steamed or raw veggies a day but I think I definitely exceeded that yesterday. I have my sugar free jello which helps and I’m drinking a ton of caffeine free tea and crystal light in my water. The chicken bone broth is very filling as well so that’s a bonus too! Plus the p…

Okay, so it's only day two of my 'hybrid' pre-op diet, and I'm already dealing with the unexpected. My diet is 3 glucerna shakes a day, one meal of no more than 500 calories, and up to 300 calories of fruit/veggie snacks per day. I'm doing this for the whole month of April, not sure what's in store for May yet. The things I didn't expect... peeing like mad and the gassiness (burping, farting, bloated feeling). I have always eaten a lot of veggies, so it's not the increase in fiber. So, I'm asking the dreaded question... Is this normal?

My pre-op diet is a modified Optifast 800. My doctor has instructed me to have 7 servings of Optifast a day, no more than 2 cups of watery veggies a day, and no more than two sugar-free popsicles a day. Let me be frank. Optifast is kinda meh. I want to be able to improve the flavor of my shakes and soups with what I'm allowed to have (including spices), and I'd like some suggestions.

People I'm having a little panic attack. I started the mostly liquid diet a week ago and I've only lost a couple of pounds. The month prior I was doing 1000 calories, 65-75 grams of protein, 100 grams of carbs and 30 grams of fat. That month I lost 20 pounds. I know I'm getting enough protein, maybe 30 grams of carbs and less than 5 grams of fat, and really reaching only 600/ 700 calories a day. Maybe I've hit some plateau, but surgery is on Monday, 3/11, and I'm afraid the surgeon is going to say you haven't lost enough weight. Has anyone else experienced this?

I went to the Nut. today and she said that the surgeon doesn't have people with a BMI below 43 on a preop diet. She said they are not concerned re. an enlarged liver for lower BMIs. I was surprised by that. I am thinking I may not cut down calories but I will try to be low sugar at least a few days before surgery to shrink the liver a bit.

I can't have whey concentrate OR whey isolates. I am looking for GOOD tasting plant-based shakes. My dietitian says it has to be under 200 calories, 10g carbs or less and 3g of fat or less, so I am really struggling to find ones that meet the criteria with ONE exception of Planted by Unjury which is super gross! That is the only one she knew of to recommend. I tried egg protein, too, and it may be worse than the Unjury. What are some decent soy, pea, or rice protein shakes that aren't high in carbs?? I found AdvantEdge... but is there anything else to compliment it? For reals stressing over this, lol.

I tried the Genepro and as everyone said I cannot taste it which is great. The only issue is , that I use lukewarm water in a coffee mug about halfway and stir in the Genepro with a fork and it completly dissolves. Then I mix in more water and stir in Chicken bouillon powder and microwave it to heat everything up.. After a couple minutes sitting the protein powder starts to clump up a little.. Is this normal ? Thanks
