Hello everyone I am very new to all this, I actually just started my adventure in seeking surgery, I have my first appointment on May 24, I already received my information in the mail for my doctor and have went to my first appointment with my PCP, for the 6 month diet tracker. I guess I’m reaching out asking for some advice. How did everyone start learning to eat different? How do you manage making a meal for yourself plus meals for my kids, I am a single mom so it can be really hard to make meals that work for all of us. How did everyone deal with the addiction factor of food? I know that’s insane to say it like that but I find myself really having issues with headaches…

Can a little ketchup completely screw you up on the pre op diet? Just curious. I just made ground bison, with fresh garlic, a little beef stock, splash of Worcestershire sauce, and a little ketchup and mustard...It came out freakin fantastic.... just looking for opinions and tips to not screw up lol.

Oh boy this liquid diet has been a big struggle for me. I was given the sandwich diet which is a combo of two weeks on liquid and two weeks on low carb. I decided I would try the liquid diet just to see how I would do. I still have a month to go before I can qualify for surgery. Being hungry drives me so crazy!! Do you know how many day one's I've had on this liquid diet? I couldn't get through a whole day without having a little something solid to chew. I am glad to say I may have found my rhythm! I am not getting starvation hungry like I was before, either that or my body is adjusting. I've finally got past day two with nothing solid in my mouth! I pray that I get…

My surgeon’s 2 week liquid pre-op diet is a little stricter than others I read on this and other sites. Optifast shakes (and possibly bars) and broths only. And that’s it. Hopefully black coffee and unsweetened tea will also be okay, but I guess I’ll see. Canned broths are yuck, am I right?! And usually come with more sodium than necessary. So in the next 4 months until my surgery I’m going to be making several stocks / broths in my pressure cooker. This weekend I grabbed a frozen turkey and cooked it, then took the carcass and made turkey broth to freeze. Also planning to put bone in beef roasts on the menu and rotisserie chickens for stocks as well. I can’t say I…

Hi everyone! I finally have my surgery date set for April 4th! I set everything up with the surgery coordinator at my surgeons office and then asked what I should start eating and she said “ ask your nutritionist.” I was pretty shocked by this. I was expecting a packet maybe, with a specific plan but nope nothing. She was kinda rude about me not choosing a nutritionist at the same hospital. Anyways my nutritionist has really been more of a therapist and hasn’t had experience with bariatric surgery patients. Does anyone still have their pre op diet plans that they could text/ email me a picture of? I’m struggling to find info on the internet and I want a good plan to…

i am allowed 'unlimited raw vegetables' on my pre-op diet. I asked my bariatric coordinator, but please let me ask here also. DOES GUACAMOLE COUNT? it's technically all raw, just mashed up together. however, i know that botanically avacado is considered a fruit, just like tomatoes. however, we eat both things as veg here in the US. my coordinator says 'as long as its all raw, i'm ok'. thoughts??? also- dill pickles????

I’ve met with my surgeon last month as well as with his nutritionist in his office. Nutritionist gave me a piece of paper and said eat one thing out of each category (there are 3 categories) for every meal. I said ok. She then asked me what I think might be the hardest thing for me and I said sugar. I said that I love sweets and candy. She said “well just don’t buy it.” Ok... I guess if it was that simple I wouldn’t have even been talking with her!! Then she left the room. Grrrrrrr [emoji35]

Hey Everyone! My insurance doesn’t cover dietitians so I’ve opt to use my PCP to complete my 6 months of medically supervised weight-loss. However, the hospital that I am having surgery at doesn’t seem to have logs or forms for my PCP to complete for the 6 months. How did you guys that used your PCP, go about having things documented? Did you fax over all your appointments?

I've told my primary doctor that I wanted to do supervised weight loss with him prior to asking my insurance. I'm concerned that if my insurance is one of the rare ones that does not care if you show evidence BEFORE surgery that you have the willpower/determination/etc. to loose weight on your own BEFORE surgery. I've heard some various input about being on a 'liver shrink diet'...some I've heard they are doing low carb. Was wondering if y'all were willing to share specifically what you were asked to do as part of a pre-op protocol. I totally realize that I may end up doing this twice if I do get approved for surgery. Hope this makes sense. I'm pretty tired…

I'm on day 4 of the 10 day liquid pre op diet! I feel like I'm doing really well so far. I don't feel nearly as bad as I thought I would. But cravings are still pretty strong. I'm working on learning how to better control my cravings. My girlfriend & I had discussed & planned for the whole family to start eating healthier. Before I started the liquid diet we cleaned our house out of any junk food & I was really excited for the support! The first few days we had all of our meals together, it didnt bother me to have a protein shake instead of their home cooked meals. Day 3 of my liquid diet comes around & on our way home from running errands, she pulls into …

My surgery (revision from sleeve to gastric bypass) is at 9:30 tomorrow. I took a few bites of food tonight [emoji30][emoji30] I don’t know what’s wrong with me. It was super soft food. Like veggies strained from my soup. Will I be ok tomorrow? I’m so afraid they will go in and see food and not do surgery. I’m sure I’m over reacting.

Hi everyone, I start my pre-surgery liquid diet on Friday and being sleeved January 15. I am currently visiting my sister and have to fly across the country on the 10th to get home. Hello everyone. So I have started my liquid diet, which is going fine so far. I am a little hungry, but was wondering if anyone knew if we are allowed to have sparkling water like lacroix? There is no sugar or sweetener at all. I can find no research on it, and of course both the nutritionist, and doctor are not in for a few days. Fizzy water really helps my cravings, and has already helped me loose weight. I know carbonation is out after surgery, but I still have my normal tummy for now

I am having the DS on November 6. Today marks day 6 of my 14 day, clear liquid & protein drink only, pre op diet. I'm going to give this my all, even if it's not much to begin with. No cheats, and none planned. So far so good! But my god this has been one of the hardest things I think I've ever had to do, and I know I'm just being dramatic but I really wish my close friends were more understanding. I hang out with my one friend about every other day, she's seems supportive, though she's made the typical comments about when I lose weight I'll become a completely different person, yada yada. What really gets me is she'll make comments about how she wants [insert fast f…

I’m one week into my pre op diet and doing great! I’m down a significant amount of weight already as I follow the instructions provided very carefully. I’m having 3-4 shakes per day, 2 servings of solid protein and veggies each (off the provided list) and 64 oz of water on top of that. So can someone provided any insight as to why, with all of the water and other instructions followed, that I am getting awful awful muscle cramps? My calves and hamstrings especially, but also in my abs and obliques when I bend over sometimes. I’m weathering them but they can be super disruptive at night.

I'm in the program. I've decided on which surgery. I've found a support group in town that meets once a month. And, most importantly, have the insurance ok. I've met with the internist and pulmonologist and had the psych evaluation.....I'm moving forward but I've only lost 20lbs so far and have 45lbs still to go before they'll do surgery....I'm hoping it'll be sometime in March...I think I can lose that in a few months...I'm 409lbs(approx). But getting around my 'inner excuse soap box' is HARD! I need to buckle down and start the Protein Shakes and just haven't yet....anyone have any motivational you tube videos they've watched? It's almost as if we've come to accept that we're going to put on weight during the holiday season. It's commonly reported by the media that 5 pounds of body weight is gained during the holidays. In actuality, normal-weight people typically gain about one pound over the holiday season...which means (at least to me) that I will gain 10 pounds...if I don't remind myself to eat MINDFULLY! So, this is my public personal promise, that I will be mindful of what I eat and make a strong effort to stay on track. I want to encourage you to do the same. The fact that you would even make an attempt to think and choose a healthier option, puts you on the right track. What a…

Brief background, all my dieting failed, I loved nutrisystem, but just could stay on it past 6 months. Now, I am in a pre-op situation. I was to stop the nutrisystem, and eat regular meals. It took a while, but now I am building my own meals. Never spiced or rubbed s chicken before in my life, until now. I can pass fast food joints, even when I am hungry. Grabbing an apple is second nature, and I push for better fiber count. I actually watch cooking shows for ideas of what I could cook up. Two months, I lost 15 lbs of my starting 394. I haven't felt better. Normally, if I lost 15 lbs, I'd hit a pizza as a "celebration.". No desire for that now, just want to tic…

I am currently on Day 3 of my 10 day liquid diet and it has been very difficult but I'm feeling terrible. I mainly feel weak almost like a diabetic but have been getting in 60-75G of protein from protein shakes the past few days. I am at the very beginning of my insurance required 6 mo medically monitored diet. It is 700-1000 calories a day. I'm so hungry, I can't imagine being able to keep it up for 6 months. I'm afraid if I really keep on track that I won't qualify for the surgery if I lose too much. Then, because this is a crash diet, I will gain it all back. Frustrated and nauseous
