I am hitting day 7 of a 21 day pre-op diet and not to bad so far. Of course the Doc hit me with a 3 week liver shrink instead of 2 because I am a big ole boy. Down 30 lbs so far with 2 more weeks to go before surgery. I had been reducing my food intake for the last 2 weeks before I started so it would not be such a shock. The Doc has allowed me a small dinner and even a yogurt if wanted per day. But so far have been following a more disciplined attack 2 to 3 protein drinks a day and a hot meal of fresh or canned spinach for dinner to feel good. Oh yeah the unjury chicken soup has helped to comfort as I found it to be very salty. Well, 14 more days to go and as long as I …

  3. Started by smtaarrie,

I'm allowed 100g of protein in the form of powder protien mixed with fat free milk or water (four or five shakes) per day and all I'm allowed besides that is clear liquid. Water..broth..crystal light..popsicles ( sugar free) and sugar free jello. I'm so scared! Lol seems like a lot of nothing for two weeks. I'm oh so ready for surgery august 29th though!!

  4. I am a male 41 and this pre op liquid diet sucks. Only good thing I had today was the Unjury chicken soup Doc has me on this for 3 weeks I am going to go nuts.

  5. Started by mufasas-mom,

I didn't know there was a preop diet!? Right now I'm eating what I can keep down (lapband slipped and I have a hiatal hernia so I'm eating but only a little at each sitting......) What's the pre op diet? I assume it's different for everyone but can I get the gist of it? Is it liquids or puréed or food?

  7. Started by Kimee,

I start my pre-op diet on the 8th. Currently I am on the pre pre-op diet, the one that makes me want to stuff my face with everything that I feel I will not be able to enjoy again; am I the only one going through this emotional phase?

  10. Hello everyone I'm new here, I have completed all my pre-op appointments, insurance has approved everything, and I see my surgeon August 9th for our final meet up. on the 9th she will most likely be putting me on the 2 week liquid diet, but I feel like I have about 9-13 pounds to lose before I even see her again. I realize that's probably not a reasonable goal, but any amount I can lose before than would help. Can anyone tell me what they did for their pre-op diet that gave the best results? As I browsed this section quickly I had saw one reply that said they lost 36 pounds on the liquid diet, I'd sure as heck like to know what she did! I plan on swimming at lea…

Bought some Atkins bars to start with. I'm going grocery shopping tomorrow to get all the stuff I will need so I won't cheat! All the goodies are gone! I need to lose 20 pounds before the doctor will even give me a surgery date! Plus I need to have some other tests done. So I think I have at least a month to lose the weight and get everything else done! I don't want to starve myself but I do want to lose the weight quickly. Any help is appreciated. Thank you everyone!

  17. Am kind of flying solo, as I have been waiting on insurance approval/surgery date. I was told I wouldn't get a date until around November but randomly got scheduled for September 24 (no complaining here!!). I don't see my doctor until August 21, and I need advice on what to eat now! What plan did y'all follow at this stage in the game? I feel like I want to et everything in the world but super guilty because I want to prepare and lose about 10-15 lbs before surgery. Help!!!

  18. Started by NickyD,

I all. My surgery is day after tomorrow (thurs) and I have been totally hopeless with the pre-op diet! Feel like my surgeon opened a gateway by telling me that since I'm not that heavy then I should stick to it roughly but not worry too much. My BMI is about 37. Has anyone else been in a similar position? Will I be ok for surgery! Feel really cross with myself that I've been so rubbish!

  20. Started by Shape_Shifter,

got a text from Omar regarding my pre-op diet. I am to do 4 days green fruits/veggies with 1 Protein shake a day and then 3 days clear liquid with 1 protein shake. I haven't had time to go through all the posts yet as far as what people ate on the first 4 days. I'm not a big fruit/veggie eater so I'm almost ready to do just the liquid phase alone. Get use to it now kind of thing... Would welcome any input as far as what you ate the fruit/veggie days.

  21. So I'm currently in the midst of a 3 month pre op diet. My surgeon doesn't do a pre op diet per say but I have a personal goal to loose 20-30lbs pre surgery. So I've been really cutting cabs out. My go to during this? Cauliflower! I riced some cauliflower (put it in a food processor then nuked it) and it has the texture of rice. Served some chicken in lowfat coconut curry sauce over it! I made moc mashed potato bake with low fat sour cream, lots of garlic, riced cauliflower and low fat motzeralla cheese baked in the oven (this was DELISH!) I made pizza twice with it as the crust- once with chicken mushrooms and onions on the pizza and another time with goat cheese…

I wonder if we can use them during pre-op diet? It would certainly help with hunger, just wonder if it would "expand" the tummy or liver....dumb question I know but I dont want to take any chances. If we can....Im getting some today, cuz I am starving!!!!!!!!!!! (day 4)

  23. Started by Krystyneh,

Okay so my surgery date is Friday August 3rd so this Friday July 20th I start my pre-op diet. It consists of cottage cheese, chobani yogurt, steamed vegetables, and lean meat oh yeah and protein shakes of course. Does anyone have any advice on how to not over indulge? I'm only allowed to eat 600-800 calories a day and I have to measure everything.

HI everyone this is my first post. My surgery date is set for 7/17. I've been reading the posts and I see a lot of people are on pre-op diets. I have not been put on one and was just wondering if anyone else is in the same situation. I just find it weird that I haven't been put on one.

Started my 2 week liquid pre-op diet yesterday, and have a pounding migraine. I have tried other liquid diets in the past i. e slim fast, optisource, optifast, and experienced the same effect, hence the failure on these diets. Any suggestions?? How can I get rid of these headaches? I am freaking out I have 15 more days to suffer through this. I was told I can't use any asperine products 10 days prior to surgery. Ugghhh what do I do?

  26. what should i do ; i had an anxiety attack and needed food in my mouth on day 3 of my liquid diet my doc only put me on a 7 day liquid diet my surgery is on friday the 13th of july .... ive wanted this surgery for so long i feel like i let myself and god down ... will i still be ok for surgery on friday?

Ok so I am in the begining process of getting sleeved, and I am changing everything now before I actually have the surgery. I drink 70-100 oz of water a day, I am taking the vitamins and trying to eat protien first (obviously I can eat that plus the starch and veg and dessert....I am trying at least) and I am trying to excercise and try new foods. I am just so impatient all I have done is maintained the last 4 months which yes is better than gaining but I am just starting to get a little down that this process is sooooo slllllooooowwww to actually get to my surgery date. I would love some encouragement please I don't have too much support at home right now....

Did your Dr. tell you to stop taking your meds when you start your pre op diet? (since they are pills and not liquid)

  29. My surgeon only requires a one day pre-op of clear liquids and 2 bottles of Magnesium Citrate and of course nothing after midnight. Anyone else have this? I know they all are different but thought mine was very easy compared to others. Johnathan

I started on Atkins this past Monday (June 18th). I have already lost TEN POUNDS and I am SO excited! I need to lose about 33 pounds before surgery on July 23rd, so I am cooking right along. I plan to do Atkins until July 9th when I must start the required 2 weeks on a liquid diet. I am still really nervous about the boot camp feeling of liquids only for two weeks, but after seeing the scale tonight, I have some new confidence and determination! I CAN DO THIS! Interestingly, I already know that my Gall Bladder is FULL of large stones. Atkins and the rapid weight loss is certainly stressing my GB and I have been having some pain here and there. I wonder what the chances…

Going to the store and grab some items I need for pre-op..... What should I be getting? I'm so confused!

  32. Started by SophieJaneB,

this is day 5 of liquid pre-op diet. My chest started gradually hurting last night, and is worse today. It feels like I slept wrong on my side or something. It hurts when I turn left right, or reach for something, or press down on it. Right behind my sternum. I've read it could possibly be heartburn, but I don't feel a burning sensation. Is it possible to have heartburn or GERD without a burning sensation? I don't think it's anything serious, but it is not comfortable.

  34. Started by Melissa D,

I was so excited to start my pre-op diet today. I'm required to do the 3 day diet, but I wanted to do the 2 week diet (starting with protein shakes & salad). Am I crazy?? Maybe lol. I've had a horrible day today, everything went wrong and even though I adjusted my insulin pump, I still was low half the day & extremely grumpy. It doesn't help that I have a bunch of finals to study for. Stress city!!!

  35. Started by SophieJaneB,

I do fine until about 5pm then I am craving some flavor! I've never had to abstain from food like this. Hardest thing I've done in a long time. I'm about to have a bowl of chicken broth and hopefully that will help. Can I really do this for 10 more days?

  36. Luckily I had one of those hand held emulsifiers... What a way to begin!

Hi All! I am just starting the sleeve journey and my surgery is on June 29 in Juarez Mexico with Dr Rodriguez. I got the pre-op diet instructions from him and I will start this on June 18 for the 2 weeks prior to surgery. I read all of the blogs/topics on the forum and I have heard everything from doing nothing but protein shakes to complete liquid diets during the preop diet plan. My instructions simply say to keep your carb intake less than 50 grams a day and high protein intake (no less than 20 per serving) and no less than 6 carbs in the same serving with no caloric restrictions for each day. Of course, drink as much water as you can handle then drink some more lol…

Has anyone else had to do a pre op 5 day ketosis diet? It was not fun but I made it to day 5...and lost 10lbs! I was allowed 9 oz of lean protein, 3 cups broth, 6 oz jello, 64 oz of water divided into 3 meals. On day six I go for urine test to confirm ketosis. This shows that you were able to follow rules and that you are serious about surgery. Now...to keep this 10 lb off and lose more by July!

I dont understand how that is possible. I have a shake for Breakfast. A salad for lunch that has romaine lettuce, grape tomatoes, cucumber, artichoke hearts and dressing (2-3 tbsp). No cheese, croutons, etc. Then i have popscicles, Jello, Water and forget the 2nd shake. Drinking no less than 64 oz of fluids and usually closer to 80-90 a day. I havent cheated once. No caffine, no sugar, no sodas, low/no carbs, no fruit. A few of the days i had plain grilled chicken with my salad (4 oz). I tracked my calories…

I started my pre-op diet of 2 slim fast shakes and a salad with Protein a day on Tuesday, 3 full days ago. I have lost 2 pounds in those 3 days. I'm not having a huge hunger problem (yes I'm hungry some, but it's not a big overwhelming thing). However, I'm sooo tired. And my brain seems just slightly foggy (I tend toward a foggy brain anyway lol!). Will this fatigue go away, or is it just going to get worse? Here are my approximate counts: Day 1: ~1,200 calories, 65 grams of carb, 70 grams of protein Day 2: ~1,200 calories, 40 grams of carb, 55 grams of protein (exercised, 30 min) Day 3: ~1,200 calories, 45 grams of carb, 75 grams of protein (exercised…
