Okay, so I am on day 11 of my 28 day pre op diet and (pardon my swearing) the **** is hitting the fan! Yes, I really want this, yes I know the deal with the liver, but no, I have not been perfect. I emailed one of the medical assistants at my surgeon's office who had the sleeve within the last year and all she could say was to get back on track. No admitting she herself struggled or cheated a little. I need someone who gets it! I am HURTING. I literally start hurting in my stomach and shaking. At that point, I have to grab a spoonful of peanut butter to calm my system down. I have 3 small children and I am home alone with them during the day. I simply can't affor…

Hi All, Today I start the Optifast program in preparation of my surgery on November 14th. I am more anxious about this pre-op time period than post-op! I've never done a mostly liquid diet in my life. I get four 8 oz Protein drinks, one 8 oz soup and one bar. Trying to space it all out and will drink a lot. I have read a lot of great advice on here already that has helped me. Thank you to all for posting and sharing tips. Any additional ones are most welcome! It's going to be along two weeks... Rachel

My surgery is scheduled for Nov 7th, my surgeon did not put me on a liquid diet for an extended period of time-is this normal? The only instruction I was given was to stay on a high Protein & low fat diet , then 2 days before only liquids..and nothing after midnight the night before. Is this normal? It seems everyone else is on some kind/version of the liquid diet. Did this happen to anyone else? I was thinking about just putting myself on a liquid diet(For the week) anyway... I want the best results possible. What do you all think? What would you do? Thanks in advance!! Dannysgil2003

2 week liquid diet - 3 shakes a Day 2 weeks 2 shakes, one small dinner 1 week liquids 3 days liquid 1 day liquid 24 hour fast Why are they all so different? I am on 15 day liquid diet, then one day fast. I get 3 shakes a day. I'm also weathering a frigging hurricane right now! Why are they all so different? It's the same surgery! I get that it may "shrink your liver" but if that mattered, then why do some docs not do it? It seems to me that the post op diets are pretty similar, but the pre-op diets are vastly different. The breakfast shakes are ok, the lunch ones I'm starving before, through, and after eating it. It's not taking the edge off at all. I want to…

As of today I am officially booked for surgery with Dr.Lopez in TJ in December! I do physical labour at a coal mine and work 12 hour shifts(14 hour days with travel). I am concerned about the pre-op diet and my job as I will be working right up until the day before I leave for TJ. Has anyone else that works in labour positions had any trouble with energy, passing out, etc. as a result of labour work during the pre-op diet, especially the 3 liquid diet days?

I am starting my per op diet now (my surgery isnt ti feb 8th) because I want to lose at least 30+ lbs before my surgery. So when I lose 100 lbs I still won't be in the 300's. And the more weight I lose before surgery the less risky it is. So anyway with all that being said I am do a protein shake for breakfast and lunch salad and lean meat for dinner. What is the best protein drinks? Any thing I can do so I won't get bored? What about snacks? What do you all suggest? Trying very hard to stay on the pre op diet but it does not say anything about snacks until the liquid diet and that is jello and etc....

I'm on day 8 of my 14 day pre-op diet and feel like I'm doing well. Down 15lbs, sticking to my diet and following the rules. But I have noticed my hunger decreasing. I don't feel hungry for my breakfast and by the time it hits lunch I'm slightly hungry but can't get much in before I feel full. Dinners is about normal but I am eating even smaller portions then what my diet is supposed to be. I try to eat my portions to get my protein levels in but I can't without feeling nauseas. Plus, I feel like I'm getting dry mouth. Has anyone else had anything like this?

I'm into my second week of my pre-op diet. Here's a daily menu: meal replacement shake for breakfast, another for lunch plus a light yogurt or fat-free cottage cheese, a large salad with 4 oz lean Protein for dinner (no corn, potatoes, starchy vegs) and sometimes a final snack of a sugar-free popsicle. However, since I started 9 days ago I've only lost 2 pounds. I cheated once with 5-6 whole wheat crackers and Peanut Butter. That was last weekend. Since then I've kept to it. And, I really thought I'd have lost a lot more weight. I see others talking about losing 10-15 pounds during their pre-op diets. What's going on? This is depressing and scary. If I can…

Okay, got online and ordered some different flavored Unjury protein powders; Some Bari-wise soups; and stocking my freezer with frozen fruit and fridge with yogurt; applesauce and cottage cheese. I have my nutritionist appointment on Monday and think I will be close to starting my 2-week pre-op! I can understand the "Dr. Pepper" thing - especially since I only drink regular, but what about the "no caffeine" thing? If I have to go off of the flavor and sugar rush, why can't I have sugar free Iced Tea?????? My co-workers are not going to appreciate me (on the night shift) for a couple of weeks without both!!!!! I guess I will find out on Monday when I speak with the nutriti…

I'm struggling with my two week liquid diet. They would like me to lose 12/13 lbs on this two week diet, and the first few days looked like this was going to be a walk in the park. Until yesterday when I only lost .2 lbs and then today when I got on the scale and to my horror had actually gained two back. Overnight no less. The hardest part is that I really have been a saint. A serious saint. Not one bite of anything that isn't allowed. Right now I would really just like to cry. I expected that if I really did this right that I would see some of the results i'm seeing from others on this site. I know I can't compare myself to others but it's hard to see people …

Hello everyone, I am going in for surgery on the 27th and I started my pre-op diet...again on the 20th. Since then I have been feeling dizzy if I get up to quickly and like my mind is in a fog. I have fought through my family consuming McDonalds, taquitos and other tasty items. I just keep telling my self, I refuse to eat anything that will delay my surgery. I'm so hungry, the chicken strips and tater tots in my fridge have been calling my name since Thursday LOL. This is truly a battle. I have a question though, How do you all deal with getting everyone on board with eating healthy in your family when you have children that are picky eaters and a husband that needs a lit…

Hi sleevers, I need a little help on today, I know everyone's pre-op diet is different in regaurds to requiremnts. I am on my two day before surgery mark and I constantly feel as if I am going to pass out. I am anemic but I didn't have to take any extra iron latetly because I was eating enough protein. This all changed when I started my diet on Thurs. I feel very sluggish and then I'm having leg cramps, and not just in my calves in my thighs. I had this before dieting as well, but was able to stave it off by eating bananas just before bed. I just got of the phone with a nutritionist and she said if I need to eat a banana or potato then eat one, because it won't affect th…

So here I am, day 2 of my 10 day pre-op diet, (my surgery is Oct 2), I've been doing okay for the most part, but right now I'm having a moment of feeling like this just sucks! It doesn't help that my husband just made dinner for himself & our son, he made crescent dogs (hot dogs wrapped in a crescent roll with cheese), it's something we don't have very often, and haven't had in a long time, it's not even something I ever crave, I think they taste good, but not normally a favorite. But, man ,does it smell like heaven right now! I would almost kill to eat something, ANYTHING right now. I'm supposed to be on a 10 day, high protein, liquid only diet. I'm already gett…

So my pre-op starts tomorrow. Not sure how much it differs from US type pre-ops. This is my schedule Breakfast 1 glucerna coffee/tea no sugar or milk\ 1 natural fruit juice no sugar Snack Diet Yogurt or Kumis or Diet Ice Cream Aromatica (mint leaves and fruit in hot water) Diet Soda lunch liquid Soup with veggies & beef, chicken, or seafood sugar free Jello dinner Repeat of lunch The one difference I do see is that my diet soda intake is not limited and I can have as much tea or aromatica as necessary. I have to drink at least 7 glasses of Water per day. I am not a big soda drinker, so I can not see over indulging in that. But I see many aroma…

Is there any surgeon that doesn't require a long pre-op diet? I know with band surgery some did and some didn't...looking back..it didn't make that much difference other than the patients loss rate was much greater on paper after the surgery.

I'm in the middle of my second week of my pre-op diet. My surgery is Monday (Sept. 17). From what I have read on the forum, a lot of people are on a liquid diet for 2 weeks. My diet is bascially an Atikins diet, with liquids only the day before surgery. Have any other doctors suggested this diet? I can say that I have done my best, but I have cheated a few times. I have lost 17 lbs since I started.

I am into my 2nd week of my pre-op diet as of yesterday. My surgeon has me on 50g carbs a day and a high Protein diet. For over a week now I have cut out soft drinks, bread, Pasta, rice, potatoes, and cereals. A few days ago, after walking up the ramp to my house I had a hard chest pain in the center of my chest and hurt to breathe. It only last about a minute and it stopped once I bent over against the counter and rested. It happened again yesterday walking up the ramp and again in the shower this morning. Is this normal? It might be because of the heat too, I live in Texas and it was hot on both of those days...hot and humid, just like being in the shower. Did anyon…

My doctor decided to do 3 weeks of a high protein liquid diet before surgery. I started that liquid diet on Sunday and as of this morning I have lost 13 lbs by my scale. How much should I hope or expect to see come off in these first few weeks? Anyone have some insight they can share?

As anyone experienced a stall during their pre op diet? Mine is shakes and water only. I'm allowed 900-1100 calories a day but I keep it at 900. I have been stuck at the same weight for 3 days. I have to be down to 260 by sept 27 which is my next appt and surgery is oct 2. I have a very strict surgeon who will not operate if im anything over 260...Any advice?

I have begun this process what seems like a lifetime ago. I'm sure you all know the deal. I start the two week liquid pre-op tomorrow morning. I'm not even dreading it. Anyone can do anything for 2 weeks, right? It's not like it's forever. The ultimate goal is within my reach for the first time. I can do it! I posted last week, I think about a bit of anxiety over the reality of it all. I'm not anxious anymore. I am so ready for this, my friends! I tolerate Protein shakes pretty well. I've figured out how to be able to drink the artificially sweetened drinks so I'm not stuck just drinking Water all the time. I've got my meds and Vitamins all good to go. N…

So, I am into my 3rd week on my pre-op liquid diet. I have done really well so far, with no real cravings or hunger pains. Even if people are eating yummy things in front of me, I haven't felt deprived. However, today is a whole new story. I feel like a switch has been flipped! I have been craving REAL food (you know, the kind you can chew?) all day. I don't really consider myself an emotional eater, but I do think my emotions are making this harder than it needs to be! Today was my last day at my current job. As part of my going away present, everyone brought in all kinds of delicious Breakfast foods. (Only two of my co-workers know that I will be having surgery on Tu…

Did anyone else experience this? Did anything help this feeling? Funny thing is, I am okay with not eating...however, I don't think my body is okay with it. argh! Hi Everyone, So I'm new to this but my surgery is soon (December 15th) and after reading some of these posts, I'm starting to freak out! From what I remember I was not given a diet to follow preceding the surgery, but it seems like everyone was given one..so now I'm worried, has anyone else worked with Dr. Teixeira in the city? Also, could anyone give me any shakes that I can find at a GNC that I could use to try out and see if i like? Excited to talk to you all

I am on day 6 of my liquid diet. Tonight my husband heated up something that smelled great and it didn't even bother me! I had some Jello while he ate his dinner. While I still miss the chewing, I am not craving other foods. I almost feel like they might upset my stomach at this point. I just thought I would share this for those of you starting the pre op diet. I just keep a positive attitude every day and love watching the scale drop down. Getting a jump start on losing before the surgery has been great!!! Good luck to everyone on their pre op:) Sue

Today is my 6th day of my liquid pre-op diet and so far the hardest! I'm a grumpy biaotch as is but 5 days without food.... Lord help my poor family! I've done really well up to this point but today I was climbing the walls. It got so bad that I was licking the seasoning off of my son's Chili cheese Fritos! And then to top it all off my husband just walked in with a Whataburger Cheeseburger and Whatasized Fries. He better run because I'm about to shove that cheeseburger down his throat if I don't eat it first! In all seriousness, today was very though for me. I got through it with the grace of God Almighty... and chicken broth. My surgery is set for Monday morning and I…

So doing alright on the pre-op diet and wake up this morning and get my protein drink the same taste. Then I do a unjury no flavor with powerade zero later today and bam! Yuck. Yuck. It tastes way to sweet and has a creamy texture. This can't be, I had planned on this as my go to drink after surgery but it is horrible now. What the heck happened.
