Pre-Op Diet, Is What I'm Feeling Normal?

I'm on day 8 of my 14 day pre-op diet and feel like I'm doing well. Down 15lbs, sticking to my diet and following the rules. But I have noticed my hunger decreasing. I don't feel hungry for my breakfast and by the time it hits lunch I'm slightly hungry but can't get much in before I feel full. Dinners is about normal but I am eating even smaller portions then what my diet is supposed to be. I try to eat my portions to get my protein levels in but I can't without feeling nauseas. Plus, I feel like I'm getting dry mouth. Has anyone else had anything like this?

If you are getting a dry mouth you need fluids!! First sign of dehydration. You need to drink, sister!!

  • The same thing happened to me when I did the Ideal Protein Diet. Once your body gets over the carb withdrawals the hunger goes away. Your body goes into Ketoacidosis so make sure you amp up your water

I'm doing okay with it. Not really hungry' date=' just bored. I am down 15 pounds and I am on Day 4. Feels good to step on the scale! I cheat a little with cukes and fat free Ranch, but it hasn't slowed down the weight loss. I also love to snack on plain shaved ice. That helps me a lot. Crunchy, hydrating, and no calories!![/quote']

Wow! 15 lbs in 4 days? That's awesome! what does your pre op diet consist of, if you don't mind me asking? Congrats:-)

15 lbs in 4 is awesome!!!

Thanks. I was very surprised. I am drinking 3 optifast shakes and two bars. I eat some cukes too. I already feel better!

Optifast? Really? I heard that was a great product. Did your doctor recommend it or is it your personal choice? My doctor only uses Bariatric Advantage Protein drinks and bars - and my diet consists of 3 drinks and one bar - THAT'S IT!

Yes, my Doctor uses OptiFast products only. I have to do this for 24 more days! It's not easy but sooooo worth it. Good luck to you!

@sharonM723; thank you so much for posting today. You've motivated me to stay focus and not let the hunger monster rule me today . So am I correct in assuming that your surgery date is in November? The reason I ask is because 28 days seems like such a long journey, and I am panicking after only four!

Thanks for the well wishes too!

My surgery is Nov. 8th. The hunger monster is calling me today! But, we've GOT this girl!

Thanks and I'll add you as my very first friend when I log in to my pc.

I will be starting the liver shrinking diet and my doctor wants me to stay on the diet for a month. While I do not agree with that idea, I will speak with him about being on the diet for 2 weeks.

Wow! That's a long time. I think these doctors don't understand that a fat girl gotta chew!! All these liquids are just cruel and unusual punishment {chuckling}

One would think that there would be great alternatives! Well, it's a journey that we've chosen to embark upon and by golly we will prevail! As I watch my husband eat St. Louis style ribs with baked Beans and my daughter & her kids munch on Frosted Flakes~ (long sigh).

Best of luck to you my friend.

Yes! I am on it for a month too. I cheat a little with veggies but still losing. I see my nutritionist tomorrow so I'll see what she says. It's hard to be on this, yet exciting seeing the weight fall off of me for the first time in my life!!

Your quote about getting on a horse without bucket...is my same goal...lol...LOVE IT!!!

I am on the one week mark of my two week liquid protein fast...I am not as hungry as I was... but I still definitely get hungry. My doc allows broth, popsicles and sugar free jello, but no actual FOOD to snack on... I really miss chewing, and ice is out because my teeth are sensitive to cold. But my surgery date is Mon Oct 22, so I am hopeful that this last week will pass quickly! I drink a LOT of water anyway, so that has been no problem. Just. Missing. Food! :o)

I really wish I only had 2 weeks. I have 23 more days of this! Ugh!

I hope I am as succesful as all of you!
