Difficulty tolerating pre-op diet

Recommended Posts

I have been on my pre-op liquid diet for one week and have one more week to go before my surgery date of January 11. I can hardly tolerate the Protein Shakes anymore, and am worried about the 4 weeks of them after surgery! Why do I feel so listless and worn out? I have been trying to think positively, having lost 11 pounds so far, but I thought by now I would be used to the shakes. I can have lettuce salads, sugar-free Jello, low-sodium broth, and yogurt, which I include throughout the day, but just the thought of the shakes . . . I have to psych myself up to drink them. Any thoughts?

You might feel listless because of the sudden drop in carbs. Many people experience this when they start an Adkins type diet. As for the shakes, sorry but I love them. There are many brands and flavors out there. You just have to find one you can tolerate. Think of this like boot camp....it won't be fun, but you'll come out the other side a lean mean fighting machine.

Switch things up. Try many different types of shakes. Try them with SF pudding, try them with ice, try with coffee, try them in juice. Try them in a box, try them with a fox.

I was the same way during the pre-op shake diet. We had to use a special brand, after surgery i had to go on the clear liquid Protein, then back to my normal shakes, which were rough, but I made it through. Your taste buds change after surgery too.

I didn't like the brand I was on during pre-op, but I wasn't allowed anything but sf Jello & sf Popsicles with the shake so the 14 days seemed long, but I made it through. After surgery, you are just so glad to be done with it, that the time goes by fast.

Stay positive.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
