Hi everyone!!! I'll be 2 wks out tomorrow and am curious about calories. I'm getting the protein and fluids ok, so that's not an issue. I'm sure it's been discussed before and I just haven't found it yet, but about how many calories should I be eating at this point? I'm eating anywhere from 400 to 650 daily. Is this on track?

Hello, I am on day 6 of my 2 week liquid diet, its a very strict diet, to where I can only have liquids... up to 3 meal replacement protein shakes, broth and water, sugar free popsicles. That all. Well I have done sooo well, til today! I had a headache and knew I would feel better by eating... so I ate fried shrimp. I know the purpose of the liquid diet is to shrink the liver, I have a fatty liver already, so I am sure this diet is crucial. Anyone else out there cheat the diet, or am I the only failure?? Anyone else by chance have afaty liver and cheated it? All comments welcomed...

All of my children and grandchildren were home for Christmas this year and that also meant a lot of food. As I prepare to be on the pre-surgery diet, I decided to take a big step. I had one of my daughters-in-law take everything that wasn't WLS diet friendly. My cupboard and fridge are pretty bare, but I feel good about it.

Hey guys just want to ask a Q.. I'm on soft foods for another 2 weeks and I'm doing good with chicken salad and tuna salad..( eggs arent goong so well) I chew it the 30 times and it doesn't hurt.. It's about the only way I can get a real protein in.. But is there anything that I can put the chicken salad on and eat it?? I just want to vary my meal a little but don't know what classifies as a safe soft food.. I am going to call my nutrionaslist wed when they reopen but thought id ask here.. And also just want to add that I'm only able to eat about 5-6 bites of the chicken salad/ tuna salad.. Thanks for your thoughts!

I was 375 on the day of surgery. After two months I am 335 lbs. About how many calories I should aim for every day. I have a sedentary office job with half an hour of medium pace walk and half an hour of light exercise and weights. Please advise. My fitness pall is misleading for me.

Okay so maybe some of you already know this but I just figured this out. I ran out of flavored shake mix and still had unjury unflavored left. So I decided to mix one scoop of unflavored unjury, 16 oz of water and 1 individual packet of sugar free hawaiian punch in the green flavor and it's awesome!! It tastes just like the syntax nectar products except has more flavor. Also, you are getting in 16 oz of water per drink. Instead of having to do a 4 or 8 oz shake then water. So it's a win win!! Also, I think that 16 oz helps to dilute the protein so that it doesn't taste as strong.

Last week I was at the surgeons office (12/13) and I had lost 6 pounds of the 19 they want me to lose. The cardiologist gave me a prescription for Phentermine to help lose the remaining 13. I started taking the pills last Friday. Today I had my nurse education appointment. I've been eating less with the pills, so I was expecting to see a pound or two loss, or at least the same as I was last Thursday. But when they weighed me I was back up to exactly the same amount I started at! No way I gained back 6 pounds in one week. I am so frustrated. And scared that if I can't lose the 19 pounds he won't do the surgery. UGH!!

I've been stuck @ 97lbs lost for all of December, its a great success, but too close to 100 to have it stall before the new year. A friend reminded me to go back to measuring & using fitness pal to record calories. Wow, an eye opener this wk. Somehow I reverted slowly to higher carb/fat intake than my proteins & my portions were more than I thought. I'm 7 months out & eating 1/2 cup per meal. But I get hungry every 2 hrs & found that I was eating 1/2 c during snack time too. So yesterday I went back to protein 1st, 1/2 cup meals & 2 oz protein snacks. My caloric intake was down by 300 & the scale moved down 1.5 lbs! So if you or I get stuck, we n…

Two slices whole wheat bread One egg , half cup skim milk, nutmeg, salt and pepper, dijon mustard Mix bread, beat egg with milk and spices, let soak bread in mixture Cut half red onion, a whole red apple (skin on) and slices of smoked turkey into bread mixture. Add sprinkle of reduced fat shredded cheddar on top. It should be baked in a bread pan coated with spray olive oil. I could only eat two spoons but it was awesome. The original recipe calls for ham, so to each his own.

Hey guys, I am just a little over two weeks out from surgery, and I find that I can eat anything without consequence. This is pretty disappointing, as I was expecting to at least have some belly pain or even dump from certain foods, but I haven't so far, and I feel like I am pushing it. I am not very headstrong with my diet lately, and its only been 16 days! My significant other was eating a big ol' bag of lays barbecue chips in bed next to me... and I jumped right in and started munching, thinking "just a few and I'll chew them really well" but I ended up eating about 15 handfuls. Not even a stomach ache. I was also bad on Christmas and had a big bowl of cheesy buttery…

So I know the word carbs is kind of a bad word around here lol but I'm interested to see what people's opinions are on good carbs like sweet potatoes, whole grain bread and starches like quinoa. I'm still early out and have been keeping it very low carb and I'm fine with that. I don't miss carbs for the most part, but down the line it would be nice to add some of these into my diet (with protein of course ring king) thoughts? How do you all feel about the so called 'good carbs'? I feel especially when I'm eventually able to step up my exercise good carbs may be helpful for energy.

I have not had any beef since the surgery and was craving a burger, to my surprise when I was in the grocery store I found the Smart Ones mini cheeseburgers. It wasn't bad at all, I put some Mrs. Dash on it, nuked it for 45 seconds. It's not something that I would have regularly, but something to have when the craving hits. Here is a photo with the nutritional info: Here's the link for a $3.00 coupon: http://www.eatyourbest.com/savings-and-promotions.aspx

I'm still preop bit I'm thinking about all the things that I'm "powerless" to and trying to come up with alternatives because one day, they will be tempting to me again. Sweets, hands down, are something I'm always going to have to stay away from. The thing I'm mostly curious about though, is pizza. We are HARDCORR pizza fans here and we eat frozen ones at least once a week. I can eat 5 pieces of a frozen pizza. Tonight after that I had 3 little Debbie cakes.we would not have them if dh hadn't bought then on his way home and tomorrow is my birthday, so. Anyway. I like pizza because it tastes good but also because I have 6 children and I don't like cooking. SO …

Does anyone one know the science behind starvation mode? I realize our bodies are functioning different now but at what point are we consuming to few calories? Personally I'm 3 months out and generally get about 650cals and 70ish grams protein... if I do the calculations this isn't even half of my basal metabolic rate( the supposed number of cals my body would burn lying in bed all day) I believe I could up my intake a bit I'm just scared to do so I suppose, any advice? Similar concerns?

I am scheduled for surgery in February. The surgeon requires the protein shake diet for 2 weeks prior. This is supposed to result in at least 15 pounds being lost and a healthier liver for surgery. If I don't lose 15 pounds, surgery is cancelled. I know how weight loss resistant I am. Can I start the shake diet mid-January to give myself a better shot?

I'm hoping to hear from hose who are maybe a year out, who have an established "normal" diet going on of like to hear anyone's thoughts though. I can't get surgery until February, but I'm trying to come up with a binder of foods for all 3 meals. Foods that are sleeve friendly, healthy and bonus points if they are kid friendly. (I don't mind making healhy food for he kids, I just can't stand wasting said food. I'm slowly weaning them into a healthier way of eating so they aren't blindsided) What are your favorite breakfasts? Lunches? dinner?
