Hi everyone. I was sleeved on 01/21/13 and am just curious as to how much everyone is eating for each meal to feel satisfied. I'm working on eating every 2-3 hours about 2 ounces per meal. What about everyone else? I was feeling hungry all the time but now that I spread out my meals I'm feeling a bit more satisfied.

So I went for my 1 mo appt yesterday (I'm 3 wks 1 day) and confessed to the dr that the puréed stage just didn't work for me, and cream soups make me feel awful. So weighed down and it always felt like it wanted to come back up. I told him I had been eating meat for the last couple of days (instead of at 30 days out) and he told me fine. Just do what's comfortable. He said the reason for prolonged mushy foods is that most people just can't tolerate the regular food. I'm so relieved. I was expecting a lecture. So today I'm finally going to start making meals, starting with my turkey southwestern burgers but made into 1oz meatballs that I can just grab out of the freezer.…

Hi all, I start pre-op liquid tomorrow and thinking about juicing veggies and some fruits to go along with Protein powder? Advice, suggestions, and/or considerations? I recognize too much sugar/carbs can come from the fruit so I hope to do this on occasion. Is it worth it? Any fruit/veggies to stay away from? Thanks!

I'd like like your all around thought more pre surgery idea's, some about why and also maybe some about when because it may help when thinking post op. although I went with out fruits most up to this time since surgery; I like best; green; Brocolli, celantro, bell peppers (red or green),sprigs of parsley, spinach. watery; cucumbers, cellery & carots, effects; Beets, onion, radishes, sweet & good; melon, berries, mango good digestion; lemons, grapefruit also: seeds, grape tomatoes, garlic, ginger root and apple cider vinegar. I researched nutriant values and calories well enough and these seemed pretty good for my needs pre op and once allowed the r…

I am 5 weeks post-OP - will be 6 weeks when I go to the movies next week. My question is what about popcorn? I know it goes against the Protein first rule, but I'd love to have some movie theatre popcorn next week (hooray for the fact that ill save money since I wont even be able to finish a small!). What about the one hard/sharp part in the middle (not sure what its called?) is that a danger or can I just chew really well? Also! So far 2 people have noticed my weight loss I've never been able to lose weight before so the comments/compliments are a new thing to me and feel so great!! Thanks for any advice!

I'm so far from eating out at an Indian place that it's crazy, but the recent thread on sushi that gave me hope for the future made me think of another type of food I love, Indian! Any tips or suggestions for good, sleeve-friendly Indian dishes when I get to that point sometime?

Finally got a call from the surgeons office today--they told me I was approved on 13 Dec. Surgery date is 25 March--had to push to then since my daughter is expecting my first grandchild. She's due 24 February and can't wait to meet my granddaughter. Figure that gives me time to spend a week with her even if the baby is late. So excited to get this show on the road and hoping that this surgery will help me get off some of the insulin and diabetes medicine that I'm on. New Year , new me. Have been drinking water, decreasing soda, and mentally preparing for this journey.

I am 3 weeks post-op. I'm wondering how much people about this far out are eating for a meal. For instance: I'm having chicken cooked in the crock pot (so it's super mushy), and I feel staisfied after just over half an ounce of chicken. I tried tonight to get an entire ounce in and I was so uncomfortable (too full) after 0.8 ounces. I'm wondering if this is something others are experiencing? I feel like less than an ounce is not enough...

I went to the buffet at Whole Foods today and they charge by the pound. I grabbed some diced chicken breast that was meant to be a salad topping, a bit of cottage cheese and a tiny bit of quinoa. My lunch was $1.60! Makes more sense than going to a restaurant!

So, since my surgery on Nov 19 I've been eating pretty healthy, and up to now have tried to avoid situations where I would be faced with really unhealthy food. Today I went out for lunch for a work thing and some Chinese staple dishes were ordered for everyone to have. I should have asked for my own healthy dish, like shrimp and steamed veggies, but felt weird about doing so. Well, from the choices I opted to eat the beef and broccoli, as the other dishes involved rice and lo mein, etc. and wanted to avoid the carbs. I ate some of the regular beef and broccoli and immediately felt horrible!! I almost vomited. I cannot believe that I used to scoff down plates of this…

My mother sent me $100 for my birthday. She usually gives me more for Christmas and my boyfriend gave me a $50 gift card. What should I get? I want to get some cookware and tools that make cooking easy. I have some stainless steel cookware, a cast Iron skillet, a blender, a food processor and a slow cooker. I want to get a cast iron reversible griddle/grill. And of course I have too many things to name and some that are perhaps, useless. What would you throw out or not bother with?

Hey all. I have a question about the multi-vitamin. I take 1 opurity chewable a day. Some days it makes me unbelievably nauseous and other days I'm fine. I think it depends on how well I chew the Vitamin. It is so sour that sometimes it is hard to chew. I tried to find a substitute vitamin, such as a gummy, but none of them have anything close to the amount of Vitamins in this chewable. Has anyone else had this problem?? I know I need my vitamins and I am choking this thing down every day, but I hate not knowing how it will make me feel. Any other vitamins you guys have tried? Also, is it possible to take a multi-vitamin pill, not chewable? i prefer pills!

I have always got in eatting ruts be it healthy or junk food I tend to eat the same thing over and over. My current rut has been Breakfast: premier shake Am Snack 1/2 premier bar Lunch: Tyson fully cooked chicken Breast & green veggie Pm Snack: 1/2 premier bar Supper: Tyson fully cooked Chicken Breast & green veggie That comes up to 650 calories, 33 carbs and 102 grams of Protein. Should I consider this a good day if I also get my fluids in? Or is it to much processed and not enough real food. I eat no fruit because carbs go high and veggies are there but not much. I occasionally change the chicken to fish. Is 102 grams of protein too much? Weight sta…

I'm almost at my one year mark since surgery. I've lost 103 lbs- and I feel great! The only issue is- I'm at a complete stand still. I've been around the same weight for over a month now, which is not normal for me. I'm not confused at all as to why. Since Christmas I've fallen off the wagon- so to speak. I know it's hard to do so, but I did. I'm not getting all of my Water in and I know my Protein is low. I can't seem to get these two things BACK into my life. I'm trying really hard with the water, but getting my protein back is so difficult. Even before my surgery I was a picky eater- I don't like cottage cheese, veggies, or anything that is best as a quick "t…

This past week my nutritionist gave me an awesome tip on how to get protein in. I have been having trouble meeting the minimum requirement AND getting in all my water. She suggested that I try dried edamame (soy beans). She said salted was fine or even one serving a day can be with dried fruit. Just 1/4 of a cup gives you 14 grams of protein & only 2 grams of net carbs. It is the easiest protein to bring out & about too. 1/4 cup in a ziploc bag fits in even a tiny purse. It is also great if you are missing foods that are salty and crunchy. It really helped me to meet my nutritional goals for the week. Just thought that I would pass it along!

I am 4 months PO and just had my 3 month blood work and follow up with my surgeon. My blood work came back that everything was ok except my B1 was VERY low, D was low and folic acid was borderline low. I admit that PO I had issues taking my multi Vitamin but on 12/26 I finally found one that I can tolerate and I've been taking everyday since then. My surgeon added additional B1 and D and said we would reevaluate at my 6 month check up. For the past month or so I have been losing hair REALLY bad. I'm not talking about normal, light shedding. This is hard core "I'm surprised I'm not bald" coming out. I'm scared that my hair is going to start looking even thinner than it …

Well I'm just under 3 weeks from my VSG surgery with Dr. Almanza in TJ. I'm trying to gather as much information as possible to ensure a speedy recovery and ulitimate success. This site is AWESOME I must say, but there is so much information to sift through. I saw a great thread on proteins and got a lot of good information from that. I've seen some good stuff on pre and post op diets. I think I'm most confused on the vitamin situation. I know that vitamin supplements are going to be a lifelong and essential part of life going forward. But what vitamin(s) do I absolutely need and is there a multi that will cover them all? I've heard I'll need to supplement vitamin…

I thought I was going to save all sorts of money each week because I was not going to eat as much as what was once normal. I am eating less. But the truth is that I buy many items, stick them in the fridge, eat a bit of each item, put them back in the fridge and eventually throw the item out because it is no longer fresh [expired or look expired]. This morning I threw out 4 half-eaten containers of cottage cheese or yoghurt. Anyone have a solution to this quandary?

So, tonight I got sick for the second time since having this surgery. The first time was after trying some beef and that didn't go very well. I haven't touched it since. Tonight, I tried a Kashi frozen meal (black bean enchilada with kashi grain) and this caused the same result as the beef. I don't eat pasta, rice, bread, etc... I am wondering if this was from the kashi grain? I never felt sick to my stomach exactly, just more like it wasn't going to stay down and after coughing, it just came up. I've never had dumping before with anything. Is that what this is? Anyone else throw up from something like this?

I'm scheduled for surgery February 26. I am wondering if food will ever be enjoyable again? After 6 months to a year, will going out to dinner be fun again? Or, will not being able to eat much make it not fun at all? Maybe I'm putting too much of an importance on food. I probably am, but I'm a little scared, and have no idea what kind of foods I'll be eating a year from now.

One of the doctors I saw put me on Phentermine to help me lose the 20 pounds I need to lose before surgery. Now while on these pills, I still get hungry but not starving, and if I can't find something I really want to eat, I don't want to eat at all! I just left the grocery store in tears because I couldn't find anything I wanted and just didn't want anything. I know I HAVE to eat. My boyfriend thinks I should stop the pills. I'm really thinking about it. I like not being as hungry, and I'm scared if I don't lose the weight my surgeon won't do the surgery, but I really think they're messing with my moods.

I advanced to Stage 2 Pureeds today per surgeon/nut guidelines. We can advanced on a weekly basis but with stage 3 (soft foods) lasting 2 weeks. So I mixed together a can of Hormel 98% FF Turkey chili, 1/4 cup kraft 2% sharp chedder cheese, 1/2 cup of broth. After I heated a 1/2 of cup in the microwave, I added 2 tablespoons of Chobani NF plain greek yogurt. Man, that was good to me!!! Total protein after I logged it in to myfitnesspal was 26 gm!!!

I've been wanting to do these for a long time, I go to Jamba Juice often and their smoothies are perfect and fresh but really expensive to do on a daily basis. I want to make them at home so I am wondering what kind of blender I would need. I've heard of VitaMix, Blendtec, Ninja, the one Montell Williams has on his infomercial(heard bad things about it). The regular ones like Hamilton Beach just aren't powerful enough. I think I'd need like 2 HP or something like that to pulverize the ice. The VitaMix and Blendtec are out of my price range but I really want one, are there any that make pro quality frozen smoothies out there that are cheaper? I hear mixed reviews on the …

I'm 7wks out and starting to meal plan w/regular foods. I'm fine w/getting most of my proteins in via solids, but having difficulty w/whole grains. What is whole grain considered that isn't a starch? And can couscous be substituted? I recently tried 1/4 c. and it was wonderful!!! I ate it as a side, not a mixture and w/grilled veggies and pork loin. It was wonderful!! Just wondering what else is considered a "whole grain" other than bread. My surgeon's regular diet plan calls for concentrating on protein (of course) first, then vegetables (non starchy) and then whole grains. Any advice would be helpful.
