if you are tracking your carbs, do you count the net carbs (like you do on Atkins Diet) or do you count the actual carbs?

Anyone tried the No Gii protein bars? Yay or nay? Im looking for some protein supplements besides shakes and powders that actually taste good. Ive found it kinda hard to find protein bars that arent covered in chocolate (not the biggest chocolate fan but dont hate it). These no gii bars seem promising, anyone tried em?

Before surgery I usually could only drink water if it was cold or.sometimes I'd even add a little sugar for flavor (I know, bad). Since drinking cold drinks don't agree with me too well, I haven't been drinking plain water. It's just not the same for me at room temperature. So my liquid intake has been mainly Fruit20 or Crystal Light. Someone told me these have a lot of.sodium. I think about maybe trying plain water With some Sweet N Low... I also plan to try Isopure drink...I need the protein. Any ideas on how else to keep hydrated?

It's tough to cook for others when I can't eat myself. I only barely taste a tiny bit for flavor and it's tempting but I know better... Another thing I've realized, it's strange but I had an easier time staying away from food and ignoring and not craving so much during my pre-op diet. Could be because the protein shakes kept me full. I was on liquid diet and NPO (nothing by mouth) for a long time after surgery due to complications and even that I could handle. Now is when I'm starting to miss food more, weird.

I am a post op of 8 days and feel like I'm eating too much but I'm hungry at meal/snack times. I know I am eating fast but try to slow that down. I am finishing a meal in 15 min instead of the 30 Here is a average day for me: Breakfast 8 oz shake Snack 8 oz shake lunch 8 oz Soup Snack 4 ounce Jello dinner 6 oz soup and 4 ounce pudding I do feel full after I eat but I honestly never get sick of eating/drinking. I could drink all day long with no issues. Getting all my Protein and fluids in is never a issue. I talked to my nutritionist who just told me to do what I am till I see the doctor next week. Hi all, I'm on day 3 of a 7 day liquid diet. So far I'm doing ok. I'm getting lots of Protein in my drinks. I've lost 9 lbs. I'm on the diet to shrink my liver. I don't have to lose a certain amount prior to surgery or anything. But, out of curiosity, I'm wondering what your pro op liquid diet experiences were?

Im starting a thread on things you cant wait to do/accomplish after surgery.. I can't wait... for that moment where I don't have to use a beach towel after a shower! till I can ride my bike with my daughter without my tire going flat the moment I hop on the bike! to give my daughters a bath with out running out of breath! till I can take my boyfriend out on a date to his favorite place Six Flags without being in fear that the security lock on the roller coaster wont fit me or I wont fit in the seat period! till I can play hide n seek with my daughter and be able to run without feeling like I'm about to collapse! till food is no longer something I seek for comfort …

What are some good protein bars for active folks who are near or at goal? I was a Trader Joes today and looked through their selection. The problem is that I do not really want to eat 250 - 320 calories for 20+ grams protein. My goal is to go high protein, low carb and reasonable carbs for a meal replacement protein bar (usually have 5-6 meals a day). I used to go for think thin bars pre surgery, but today the 270 calories for 1 bar seemed way too high. Not looking for a candy bar in disguise. I am aiming for under 200, perhaps 180 calories. My tastes are pretty open as i have never hated any protein bar in the past and i have tried quite a few in my heavier days. Go ahe…

Has anyone else experienced this, I'm at the official 6 month mark and I'm down a whooping 108 pounds. I'm working out every day, eating my protein as adjusted per daily need and hydrating accordingly to the climate (I'm in Afghanistan, mild days frigid nights) however I have this extreme thirst... I'm always thirsty... More so now than before and I've been working in the Middle East for the past 6 years so I'm very accustomed to the temps. I didn't have diabetes beforehand however I do check my fsbs every day just to keep track and I do weekly urine dips just to make sure I'm nor throwing ketones out or anything too funky. My Dr is 12k miles away, though luckily I am a …

So I'm in the puree stage of my diet now and the thought of puree food is just so unappetizing to me. I would rather stick with the full liquid longer. So, I've been using my teeth as my puree device. I'm sitting here nibbling on crab meat and chewing the heck out of it before swallowing. The family will get Maryland crab soup and I get pure crab meat.

There are lots of links in my signature, but I thought I would start a post here if anyone is interested in reading. One of the biggest side effects of chewing and spitting (outside of weight gain), are stomach ulcers. When you salivate (which starts breaking down food in your mouth), it triggers your stomach to begin producing digestive juices in anticipation of the food that you are about to swallow. When you spit that food out, your tummy doesn't know that. So you're left with an empty tummy pumping out digestive juices. This is how ulcers form. Why would you want to do that to your teeny tiny tummy? They don't have anything to cut out anymore if you develop ulc…

Hi all! First let me say, I'm 9 months out and have lost 80 lbs.. I saw my surgeon today who only wants me to lose 20 more, not 50 like I had planned. Anyway, I discovered a protein bar that tastes pretty good and makes a good late night snack. It's made by Kellogg's. it's called FIBER PLUS PROTEIN chewy bar. I had the peanut one. It has 10 gms. Of protein, 170 calories, 8 gms. Of fat and 9 gms.of sugar. I realize the sugar content may be a wee bit high, but all in all, it's pretty good.

Let me first say that I am not a cook, and even being 7 weeks out from surgery, I am a bit behind in where I should be with regards to meals. I am really at a loss for breakfast ideas. My stomach wakes me each morning with stomach pangs, but nothing ever sounds good and so far can only take a few bites. What do you find keeps you sustained until the next meal? Thanks so much.

Anyone else with me on hating fat free dairy? Other than Greek yogurt I just can't get behind the idea. The cheese doesn't melt, the texture is usually weird. My question is why do we use this junk anyway? I know we want to watch our cals and fat but with eating so little I am much fonder of having the real stuff (or at least reduced fat)!! So what do y'all think? Any decent ff products that hold up to their fattier counterparts? Specific recipes where you can't tell the difference if ff or not? Sleevers far out or in maintenance who use the fattier versions?

i have been thinking about getting a juicer. i want to find a way to get in fruits and veggies. i am 2 months out, by the way. looking at the ninja blender because it pulverizes the entire food instead of just juicing it, leaving all the fiber and bulk! i figure i can throw in spinach, a green apple, blueberries, pineapple... and a scoop of my unjury powder for protein. that way i get my protein plus all of the vitamins and nutrients from green veggies and fruits in a more sleeve friendly drinkable form. has anyone tried this yet??? and do you all recommend the ninja???

I like that My Fitness Pal app lets you track your water, but I don't see where you get a chart of your protein and carb intake for the day, like you do with the Lose It app. You just have to go into the more settings to show you want it to track protein and carbs. I posted a pic from Lose It to show what I mean. Am I missing where I can see this with My Fitness Pal?

I am reading a lot about post-op liquid stages and people having "no sugar" this and that... does that mean you are using artificial sweeteners in most of your liquids? I am concerned about aspartame usage b/c it makes me feel unwell... are any of the popular drink mixes made with "safe" sweeteners? Do you have to go "no sugar"?

I was sleeved 30/11/2012 and I have found that I cant stand the taste of artificial sweeteners, even splenda. I tried having some crystal light as a way of getting some variety and more fluid but it was AWFUL. I felt sick afterwards and the taste was horrible. all I could taste was the splenda in it. has anyone else experienced this? Im kinda bummed cause I would like to enjoy a drink other then water all the time.

I was sleeved on the 20th of Feb. after some complications I was released 4 days later. I have now been home trying to get in my 64oz of daily water but come no where close. Also, my stomach can't really hold protein shakes down yet and what I'm eating is little to nothing. I'm living off Popsicles mostly. So my question is what can I do to get this stuff in me? I feel dizzy and light headed if I stand to long and I have horrible stomach pains.

I am 3 days out from my surgery. I drink an oz or more every 15 min. per my surgeon. I don't really feel full from my liquids. Does anyone else feel like this. Although I do have some sharp pains kinda going up my chest. I'm debating on if that's the gas or indigestion. Although it does not feel like heartburn.

One of my favorite Norwegian foods is lutefisk. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lutefisk) As much as I loved it, before surgery it had a tendency to make me gassy. I decided to risk it and had a little on Sunday. I used a butter substitute instead of butter and ate probably about 1/8 of a cup. It was wonderful and didn't disagree with me at all. I am a happy Norwegian.

Any suggestions for proteins that are lite weight. I don't wont to load down my pack with food. 3 boxes of thin mints and 2 boxes of samoas have made there way in my house. The hubby had ordered them from a neighbor. I so badly wanted to rip into a box and have a cookie only because they are thin mints! I stared at the cookies and decided my cream of shrimp soup was going to have to do for dinner. But the SF popscicle sure did taste good!

Alright, I know we are emphasized Protein, protein protein after surgery, and I know that protein is essential in the role of so many things in our body, but why is it seemingly more important now? Prior to surgery, I would likely get 30 grams of protein or less a day, and I was generally OK. Now, 1 1/2 years after surgery, I notice problems if my protein is under 50 grams a day. If I work out before having my protein, I get loopy. I have had recent balance issues, possibly also attributed to not getting lots of protein. How much protein do you eat a day? What symptoms do you notice if you're low on protein?
