Silly question - I've never really eaten cottage cheese before. I know it's a good choice for the soft food stage, so I bought a tub of it. Now what? I don't know if I want to eat it plain!

I am trying to cut out the fake sugar. It's hard considering plain Water makes me nauseated. This unfortunate effect is new since surgery and hopefully will abate as time passes Until then, are there any simple powders or on-the-go packets I can add to flavor my water that don't have aspartame or sucralose? Just squirting lemon has unfortunately not stopped the nausea so I'm hoping there's some miracle product or suggestion out there. Thanks for any advice! Courtney

It is impossible for me to eat slowly!!! Years of work, work, run and then eat fast have trained my brain wrong. I have tried timing, insane chewing, and super small portions. Every time I am getting ready to eat I hear a voice in my head that says "you have healed great! Go ahead, now you can eat like you did before." It makes me crazy! Whyyyyyyy can't I learn to slow down?!!

  8. I'm looking through a lot of sleevers' post op diets and seeing that dairy products, such as whey protein, yogurt, cotttage cheese, cheese strings, milk, etc... seem to make up the bulk of the diet. I can do a tiny bit of dairy, but living off of it like that would make me absolutely ill (I'm dairy sensitive, but not allergic... seems to affect my joints/achiness badly if I have too much). I know I can do all kinds of meats, but is there a reason people seem to lean towards the dairy post op? Do meats just not go down well, but the softer dairy products do? I'm just trying to plan ahead, but am worried that the dairy load would be too much!

I am 14 months out, I have dizziness issues as well and just feeling weird. My blood work was great, so I know it's not that. sometimes I wonder if its dehydration as its difficult getting the fluids in. I also feel hungry ALL OF THE TIME and can never seem to eat enough to overcome that feeling. It's difficult to cope with. Down 70 lbs and life is much better, but still there is this annoying struggle to feel really good. Anybody else feel like this?

Ok, I was sleeved on 12/28/12. My surgeons plan post op is one week Clear liquids and then two weeks of full liquids, then two weeks of soft Proteins, and then to the "new normal". I started the soft proteins on 1/18. The first day wasn't too bad. The second and third day I had a hard time. I know saturday was my fault, we went to Sams and i had a sample of smoked sausage. the lady didn't bother telling us it had jalapeños in it. I thought I was going to die!!! Sooo painful! All I seem to be able to handle so far is eggs. I can't seem to find the happy medium between eating the right amount and feeling like I am about to rip my sleeve! I ate 1/4 of a cup of ham salad and …

Since I begin researching weight loss surgery, one of the number one thing's I have seen is post op caffeine, sugar, and carbs are a big no no. My question is why other than it's good weight loss technique. Carbs I can understand a lot of them, I'm told; I won't be able to handle any more. But is caffeine and sugar just for the diet, or is there an explanation regarding our new stomachs, for those as well?

So I email my nutritionist and she tells me to have either a Protein shake or Greek yogurt for Breakfast not both.. and to limit my Snacks till only when I am hungry. My question is how am I supposed to get 60-80 grams of protein in if I only eat 3 meals a day and no Protein shakes. And I will be lucky to get 600 calories.

I'm about 12 weeks post surgery and was wondering what everyone's thoughts are about juicing. I still struggle with eating solids while protein shakes go down so easily. I was wondering if I juiced my vegetables with some fruit I would get a lot more nutrients and vitamins throughout the day. Way more than I could possibly get by just eating them solid. My nutritionist told me that since I'm past the 3 week post-op mark, I can now move on to soft foods from the pureed foods that I've been on. I must say, I'm excited but scared too because I fear getting sick. I went food shopping yesterday evening and picked up a variety of food I can now have. Many things I purchased were lowfat so that's a change for me. My local supermarket is small and doesn't have a great variety of healthy foods so I go to one not close to home but where I know I will find more foods good for me now. I bought Italian-style meatballs (beef), lowfat American & cream cheese, low-sodium ham, angel hair pasta, low sugar ketchup, etc. I think I ov…

As a continuing struggle to maintain my post op weight, I just learned of this today, although some of you may already know about it. It seems Panera has a "secret" menu. You won't see it listed in the restaurant. You have to tell the staff you're ordering from the "Hidden Menu." There is a handful of very low carbs, high Protein options that look really good. Just ask the sever about the hidden menu. http://mypanera.panerabread.com/arti...s-hidden-menu/ Lash

Rediscovered these a few days ago and they are yummy. They are like a little treat almost. We usually buy them from Costco, but I found some exotic Mexican variety at TJ yesterday. If you are far enough post op, these little guys are a really good snack.

My main downfall has been the snacking. It's not always unhealthy, most times it's fruits and cheese but just grazing all day has added up the pounds. I've been watching it more recently, and when I get that urge I get a bottle of water but I'm not sure it's helping. I still feel the need to put something in my mouth.

Does anyone know just how many ounces of foods we can have at each meal during the soft food stage? For example, for dinner I would like to have 4 ounces (1 small individual container) of lowfat cottage cheese With msybe 1\4 cup of green peas. Is it too much? or the Smart Ones I think is the name of a small microwaveable dinner entree which plan to eat only half of which would be about 2-3 ounces of Salisbury Steak and about 1\4 cup of Mac n Cheese. I just began soft foods, I was only eating 1/2 cup which is 4 ounces of any pureed food per meal. I'm not sure what to eat now.

Also blending them is fine...but by the time I finish the drink it has become a soupy watered down mess and it does not entice me to finish! I would rather drink Water than a shake. However with two kids, teaching, a husband who works all the time, and going to grad school full time it is almost impossible to get creative in the kitchen! So, was wandering through the store looking for new foods to try, and in the wasteland of cereals, found a box of Grape-Nuts, which are an old favorite of mine. I don't think I've had them in two years, long before I started preparing for the surgery. Anyone have any experience of being able to tolerate them OK? Their Protein count of 8g of protein for a half-cup (without milk, so figure another 5-8 when you add that in) seems pretty good to me. Along with 7g of Fiber. Sadly, 44g of carbs, but only 5 of that from sugar. Only 1g of fat. Thoughts on it as a choice?
